The My Earth Buddy pattern creates
a cute little friend to remind our
children to love our planet earth.
It can provide an opportunity to teach
our children about why the earth is
important and what we can all do to
care for and protect it.

It can be a sweet souvenir or mascot
for environmental awareness and
Earth Day festivities.

You could even add some eyelashes
and a bow or flower, and make her
into Mother Earth for a girl!

I hope you enjoy this FREE pattern!
Please remember that this is a toy, and
it is not entirely geographically correct

amigurumi, which does not use slip stitches to join, but rather
continuous crochet in the round. You will also be crocheting in rows.

ASSEMBLY / FINISHING

Helpful reminders:

**It may be helpful to pin the continents in place before sewing. I
recommend whip stitching or sewing through the FL of the
continents, as this will give the land a 3D appearance.
My placement suggestions are only meant as guidelines. It may help
to examine a global map for continent placement and landmark
finishing. Fit the continents on as best you can, pull and smooth
them out flat as you sew. Remember that this is a toy, and that
imperfections makes toys special. You also want to be sure that at
least one ocean is big enough to fit the eyes, and that there is room on
the bottom to sew on the legs. Your globe may become misshapen as
you sew the continents on. Simply squish it back into shape when you
are done.**

WEST EAST

HA! Handmade 2014
CONTINENTS:

Line the top of Asia/Europe and the top of North America up with
the 4
th
row from the top center of your globe, on each side, leaving 3
rows visible. There should be half an inch or so between where
Russia would meet Alaska at the Bering Strait (as shown). Pin and
sew in place, making sure to sew the Mexican peninsula off to the
right side. Tie off and weave ends into your Earth Buddy.

Line South America up with the bottom of North America, just off to
the right. Line Greenland up with the top right-hand side of North
America. Pin and sew in place (as shown). Tie off and weave ends
into your Earth Buddy.

Line Africa up below Europe/Asia, on the left-hand side, and line
Australia up on the right hand side, below the 3
rd
peninsula and a few
rows over to the right. Pin and sew in place (as shown). Tie off and
weave ends into your Earth Buddy.

EYES & MOUTH:
Sew the pupils on to the center of the eyes, and with white, create a
highlight on the same side of both eyes (as shown). Line the eyes up
on whichever ocean you choose. I chose the Atlantic side because I
wanted the continents to frame the face, but you may have more
room on the Pacific side. Sew the eyes in place (as shown). Tie off and
weave ends into your Earth Buddy. Embroider your desired mouth,
or Ch10, fasten off and sew mouth in desired location. If you wanted
to make a girl Earth Buddy, you could add some eyelashes and attach
a flower or bow on top!

HA! Handmade 2014
ARMS:

Curl the hands inward and sew the arms closed through the inside
loops (as shown).

Place the round hands over the eyes, and where the arms meet the
globe, sew in place through the outside loops, all the way around. It is
preferable that they line up on a blue space, but you may have to sew
them to a continent. I sewed my left arm on at the blue space
between Africa and Europe, and the right arm on in the Pacific Ocean
(as shown). Tie off and weave ends into your Earth Buddy.

LEGS:

Line the legs up directly at the bottom of your Earth Buddy, so that
they are touching. Ensure that both feet are facing forward. Sew in
place (as shown). Tie off and weave ends into your Earth Buddy.

LANDMARKS:

With green, embroider on any missing landmarks and/or islands
that you wish. Simply wrap your yarn around a stitch or two a couple
of times, and continue until you are satisfied. Tie off and weave ends
into your Earth Buddy. Some of the crucial landmarks that I added
were:
The Arctic islands, Florida, Haiti, Iceland, Britain, Madagascar, New
Zealand, Indonesia and Japan (as shown). You do not have to be
entirely geographically correct, as this is a childs toy, but the extra
touches make him a wee bit more Earth-like.

Congratulations! You have finished your Earth Buddy! Enjoy!
