A. Motivation




There are three balls given and it will be added with one ball, how many
balls are there all in all? So,

3 + 1 = 4

B. Introduction

Addition is putting things together or combining numbers.

The symbol used in addition is plus or +.

There are two ways in adding,
3 + 1 = 4
This is called the horizontal way of adding because it is written in the form
of a horizontal line.

This is called the vertical way of adding because it is written in the form of
a vertical line.

Naming the parts of an addition sentence.



The numbers being added is what we call the addends.
The answer in addition is called the sum.

C. Lesson Proper

Today you are going to learn about Addition of 2 One-digit Addends.

a. Addition using the number bonds

1. 4 and 3 make 7





We write: 4 + 3 = 7 or


The sum of 4 and 3 is 7, or 4 added to 3 is 7 or 4 plus 3 equals 7.

2. 3 and 5 make 8.

We write 3 + 5 = 8 or


The sum of 3 and 5 is 7, or 3 added to 5 is 8 or 3 plus 5 equals 8.

b. Counting On

1. 4 + 1 = ?

Start from 4, then move 1 more step forward. You stop at 5. So,
the sum is 5.

We write: 4 + 1 = 5 or



2. 3 + 4 = ?

Start from 3, then move 4 more step forward. You stop at 7. So,
the sum is 7.

3. 5 + 5 = ?

Start from 5, then move 5 more step forward. You stop at 10. So,
the sum is 10.

Answer page 141 142 of Lets Work Together, A and B.

V. Generalization

(Review Actvity)

The activity sheet is entitled, Treasure! Pressure! Pleasure! Why?

As you can see in the activity sheet, there are 100 circles on it and there are 10
treasure chests. In every 10 circles there is a corresponding treasure chest. There will
be an allotted time for the game. There will be 10 questions for every game. Questions
will be posted on the board and answers will be written on a piece of paper. The first 5
pupils who will answer each question correctly will receive a signature from the
teacher. One circle is equal to one signature. When they reached one treasure chest,
it designates plus 2 in the next quiz. And when they reached the winner sign or
collected 100 signatures it designates a plus for the next examination.

The questions are as follows:

1. What do you call the numbers added in addition?
2. What do you call the answer in addition?
3. Is 78 an even number or an odd number?
4. Is 89 an even number or an odd number?
5. Write 63 in expanded form.
6. Write 5 tens and 6 ones in numbers.
7. Write 3 tens and 9 ones in numbers.
8. Add 6 and 4.
9. Add 11 and 8.
10. Add 15 and 4.
