1. Job Title: Chief Hospital Engineer

2. Grade: T1-T4

3. Department: Technical affairs

4. Status: Full Time

5. Accountable to: Director of Technical Affair

6. Job directly supervised: Civil, Electrical, HVAC, and Mechanical
engineering.

7. Job purpose (no more than 20 words):

Responsible for the day-to day running of the entire installation


8. Job dimensions (Authorities assigned Financial / Staff):

Nil

9. Job Specification:

a. Qualification:

Masters or equivalent
b. Experience:

10 years after qualification, of which at least 5 years in a teaching
hospital is desirable

c. Knowledge:
Should have evidence of successful participation in courses related
to the field of work
Additional teaching experience is desirable

d. Skills:
Should demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills
Should have working knowledge of the use of personal computers

e. Attitudes:
Prepared to work as a team member.
Possess the attitude to make the patient care the primary concern.
Prepared to understand and follow the Hospital / University rules and
regulations and demonstrate positive attitude when it come to additional
duties required by the Hospital / University administration.


10. Key results areas:

Establish and ensure the implementation of all maintenance
polices. Supervising the department and maintenance contract
staff.
Represent the department in various hospital committees as and
where required.
Prepare and evaluate maintenance tenders/contracts documents and
spare parts tenders as stipulated by purchasing committee.
Establish a training program for maintenance staff and monitor its
implementation in conjunction with the department of training and
staff development.
Provide technical assistance to the DG in the planning and
upgrading of the hospital infrastructure.
Ensure the implementation of health and safety and fire prevention
policies and procedures of the hospital.
Ensure that the overall activities meet the requirements of quality
management and environmental policies and legal stipulations.
Demonstrate evidence of successful participation in required
training programs offered by the hospital.
Recognize the necessity to continually develop skills and acquire
additional knowledge appropriate to the position.

Responsible for the effective functioning of mechanical, civil and electrical
installation according to laid down technical standards.

8. Job dimensions (Authorities assigned Financial / Staff):

Nil

9. Job Specification:

a. Qualification:

MSc or equivalent
b. Experience:

8 years after qualification, of which at least 4 years in a teaching
hospital is desirable

c. Knowledge:
Should have evidence of successful participation in courses related
to the field of work

d. Skills:

Assist in the preparation of tender and contract document.
Prepare specifications and drawings for improvement of the
hospital, civil, mechanical, and electrical services.
Identify plant replacement and spare parts.
Monitor plant performance and efficiency.
Supervise the maintenance of all electrical plant and hospital
equipment.
Represent the department in various hospital committees as and
where required.
Prepare and evaluate maintenance tenders/contracts documents and
spare parts tenders as stipulated by purchasing committee.
Participate in a re-call to work service to attend to emergency
breakdowns.
Ensure that the overall activities meet the requirements of quality

BSc or equivalent
b. Experience:

5 years after qualification, of which at least 2 years in a teaching hospital
is desirable

c. Knowledge:

Assist the senior hospital engineer in establishing the maintenance
requirements for the hospitals building services and soft
landscaping services.
Equip and prepare specifications for the execution of these
maintenance.
Supervise the maintenance of the hospital soft landscaping and
irrigation system.
Responsible for preparation of feasibility, and specifications for
modifications works.
Responsible for the preparation of English/Arabic tenders and
contract documents.
Detail the rectification methods to the contractors for attending to
job requirements received from various departments.
Oversee and ensure their work for quality.
Responsible for processing and distribution of maintenance
requisitions through the HIS system.
Responsible for ordering of spares through purchase ordering
system.
Serve as quality management representative for the department
Coordinate with the university technical affairs department for all
hospital constructions projects.
