We ask that all members of the AMS community learn and follow these Emergency Procedures,

so that when there is an emergency, everyone can assist the school in keeping the situation
under control and as safe as possible. We have to be ready at all times for a re, gas leak,
earthquake, or other threat that could pose a danger to the school campus. The Emergency
Procedures that we have in place are reviewed with our students so that all students and staff
will know what to do in case of a school wide emergency.

Emergency Procedures 2014-2015

The purpose of this information is to inform everyone in the AMS community about the
procedures that
we have in place so that all students and staff members remain safe during a school wide
emergency. We ask
that all members of the AMS community learn and follow these procedures, so that when there
is an emergency,
everyone can assist the school in keeping the situation under control and as safe as possible.
The emergency procedures
that we have in place are reviewed with our students so that all students and staff will know
what to do
in case of a school wide emergency.
We understand that in an emergency, parents would try to come to school to reunite with their
students.
We ask that you understand the procedures so that everyone can be safe and the reunication
with families can
go smoothly.

Fire or Earthquake

1. The rst step for all students and staff exit the building safely and evacuate to the Front of
the School. In an earthquake students are to duck, cover, and hold then when the movement
stops they are to evacuate to the Front of the School.

2. Each class is to evacuate to their assigned area on the Front of the School. Once at the Front
of the School, staff members are to take roll and ascertain if anyone is missing or injured.

3. We have Search and Rescue Teams that are released from their classes to reenter the
campus in order to look for anyone that is missing or injured. Injured students or staff members
are evacuated to the First Aid station.

4. A First Aid station is set up at the Nurses Ofce where volunteer staff members look after the
injured.

5. The Student Release Team will be located at the Nurses Ofce. Reunication with family
members can only occur if the person trying to retrieve the student is an adult designated on the
emergency form. No student can be released to an adult that is not on the emergency form.

Campus Lockdown

1. In the event that there is a direct threat to student safety on our campus or near our campus
we will go into our school wide Lockdown procedure. Once a Lockdown situation has been
determined by school administration will ring or announcements will be made over the
Announcement system.

2. When this Emergency chime signal is heard at anytime on campus students are to quickly
and safely enter the Nearest room. Once the Area around the Classroom is cleared, staff
members are to lock the doors and keep everyone inside until further notice.

3. Staff members are trained to keep students seated on the oor away from windows and
doors.students seated on the oor away from windows and doors. Staff members do not open
classroom doors.

4. Staff members take roll of the students that are in the classroom with them. They are to PM
the list of students to the administrators. These lists will be compiled and maintained in any
ofces.

5. The Principal will communicate with staff members regarding the Lockdown situation using
PM.

6. Once the situation has been resolved and the threat is neutralized normal activities will
resume. A Blog Post will be sent out on the AMS Website to inform Students and Staff to
regarding the situation to as quickly as possible. Please be aware that it is likely that emergency
personnel will be working with school administration in order to determine if the threat is gone.

Off Site Evacuation

1. There may be an emergency situation that occurs that requires AMS to leave the school
campus to an alternate site. The off campus evacuation site for AMS is Old Alvarado/Cesar
Chavez Park. Students would evacuate to that place and follow all of the same procedures as if
they were still on the AMS campus.
