-. Bn !S";SC $mplitude modulation the fre*uenc+ content of the modulated signal ut# in
the fre*uenc+ band CfCDfc is called the upper sideband of :f#, and the fre*uenc+ content
in the fre*uenc+ band CfCEfc is called the lower sideband of :f#. Either one of the
sidebands of :f# contains all the fre*uencies that are in %f#. Since :f# contains both
the upper and the lower sidebands, it is called a double;sideband!S"# $% signal. The
other characteristics of the modulated signal ut# is that it does not contain a carrier
component. This is evident from observing the spectrum of :f#. $s long as mt# does not
have an+ !C component, there is no impulse in :f# at f=fccarrier fre*uenc+#,which
would be the case if a carrier component was contained in the modulated signal ut#. )or
this reason, ut# is called a suppressed;carrier signal. Therefore modulated signal is called
!S";SC $% signal.
1. Bn cases where we want transmit less power from transmitter there using of !S";SC is
advantageous. "ecause in !S";SC signal there is no power component of the carrier.
/. Bf the adder in the diagram was connected then it becomes a Conventional !S" $%.
7. Bn this experiment we learnt how to use lab module to setup !S";SC $%. Fe also learnt
how to ta'e reading from picoscope for various parameter of a signal. <ater b+ var+ing
fre*uenc+ of the message signal we observe the change of :S" and <S" of the :f#. Bn
case of !S";SC the bandwidth re*uirement for transmitting a message signal is double
the bandwidth of the message signal. So !S";SC is not efficient one in respect to
bandwidth.

!S";SC = !ouble Side "and Suppressed Carrier
$s we got bandwidth in the both sides of fc, it is called double side band. The modulated signal
ut# does not contain a carrier component, so it is called suppressed carrier.

&ropagation of baseband signals cannot be done easil+ b+ radio waves. So b+ using !S";SC we
shift the fre*uenc+ to propagate the signal easil+.
An'(e% to t)e *ue'tion &umbe% +
Fe use the adder to demodulation of the !S";SC signal. Bf we connect the adder shown in the
diagram we will get a signal li'e ut#@cos-GfctHI#, where I is the phase of the locall+ generated
sinusoid.
An'(e% to t)e *ue'tion &umbe% 5
Jn this experiment we observed the wave shape of mt#, ct# and ut#. Fe also observed the
fre*uenc+ spectrum of mf#, cf# and uf#.
$ suppressed;carrier amplitude modulation scheme is three times more power;efficient than
traditional !S";$%. $t least two;thirds of the power is concentrated in the carrier signal, which
carries no useful information be+ond the fact that a signal is present#. To increase transmitter
efficienc+, the carrier can be removed suppressed# from the $% signal. This produces a
reduced;carrier transmission or double;sideband suppressed;carrier !S";SC# signal.
