Presidency Message

The purpose of Relief Society is to help prepare women for the
blessings of eternal life by helping them increase faith and personal
righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and seek out and help
those in need. Women fulfill these purposes as they seek, receive,
and act on personal revelation in their lives. Relief Society
accomplishes these purposes through Sunday gospel instruction, other
Relief Society meetings, visiting teaching, and welfare and
compassionate service.
Our membership in Relief Society is so important, that we need to
know what sets us apart from every other women's group or
organization. Everything we do in Relief Society matters because
Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ, visited Joseph Smith and,
through him, the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored to
the earth. Relief Society is part of that restoration. The Prophet
Joseph Smith defined the purpose of Relief Society and instructed the
sisters in their purpose, just as he taught priesthood leaders in Kirtland
and Nauvoo their priesthood purpose and work. Ours is an
organization that continues to be led today by prophets, seers, and
revelators.
I rejoice to know that The Lord loves us enough to guide us in this
work, and that we belong to a church that operates with continuing
revelation. May we celebrate and give thanks for the essential, sacred
work that we have been given is my prayer.

This Months message:
The Divine Mission of Jesus Christ: Comforter

Jesus Christ promised, I will not leave you comfortless: I
will come to you (John 14:18). He will give us beauty for
ashes, the oil of joy for mourning (Isaiah 61:3). Because
Christ suffered the Atonement for each of us, He will not
forget us. Our Savior has taken upon Himself ! our
pains and our suffering and afflictions so that He can
know what we feel and how to comfort us, said Linda S.
Reeves, second counselor in the Relief Society general
presidency.

Knowing that Christ will comfort us can bring us peace
and inspire us to follow His example by ministering to
others. President Thomas S. Monson said: Our
knowledge of the gospel and our love of our Heavenly
Father and of our Savior will comfort and sustain us and
bring joy to our hearts as we walk uprightly and keep the
commandments. There will be nothing in this world that
can defeat us.

Consider This
How does understanding that the Lord remembers you
bring you comfort?

The 10
th
Ward Relief Society Theme for 2014 is: Becoming a Zion People.

And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one
mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.
Moses 7:18.

As important as it is to have this vision in mind, defining and describing Zion will
not bring it about. That can only be done through consistent and concerned daily
effort by every single member of the Church. No matter what the cost in toil or
sacrifice, we must do it. - President Spencer W. Kimball
