As always the font and style of the band

name Slipknot is the same which keeps

some consistency. The blood red
colouring and sharp, distressed look of
the title gives the audience an idea of the
genre of music. The colour contrasts
extremely well against the dull
background lifting the title and drawing
focus as it has been positioned directly in
the centre of the top of the poster.
The background of the image is a shot of the sky which
has been heavily edited to give this dark gloomy effect
which gives connotations of death and despair to the
audience as it slowly fades to black in the top corners
of the image. Over this section of the image there is a
translucent pentagram which emerges half way from
behind the figures. The pentagram is stereotypically
associated with dark, mystic activities so the fact that
the band has one on their poster again implies that the
music they produce is based in the metal genre.
The title of the album is showcased at
the very bottom of the poster on top of
a black bar which helps it to stand out
as the writing is clearer than the title
and is colored white with a border of
red, which sticks with the title theme
and makes a link to the top of the
poster. The words ALL HOPE IS GONE
are spaced out unusually with large
gaps between each word putting
emphasis on each one. The title itself is
honestly quite depressing and suggests
some of the feeling and intensions
behind some of the tracks on the
album.
The photograph of the band has been taken from a low
angle to empower and glorify the members of the band
to the audience. All the members are wearing black
robes with the same blood red accents as both the
titles, which keeps on establishing the link throughout
the poster. They are also all seen to be wearing strange
masks. This connotes the sense of unity between the
band even though the masks are all individual. It also
intimidates the audience as their faces go unseen and
that suggests that they are trying to remain
anonymous and keep the mystery. The band members
divide the sky from the tall withered grass they are
stood behind. This barren location gives the image
attitude and follows the idea with the pentagram of
dark happenings.
The negative space
in the middle of the
poster helps to
segregate the image
by displaying the
eerie, oppressive sky
looming over the
band members as
the pentagram and
title rises from
overhead. These
dynamic features
make for a more
interesting subject
for the audience to
observe.
Some of the band
members are
either looking
directly into the
lens of the camera
or they are
performing a
gesture. These
little touches help
the static image to
engage with the
audience, which
allows them to
gain a better
understanding of
the concept of the
promotional
poster.
