It is days like this one that I am so glad
I have set aside a day for the Sabbath. I
started thinking that just a couple of
months ago this day would have passed
me by while I ran everywhere doing a
lot of things. I would have had meetings
the problem people have is getting the
important confused with the immediate.
If we go into each day looking for the
things that “have to get done right now”
we will often miss the things that are
important. The things that would help us
grow. The moments where God is
evident in our lives. Are you focusing
on the immediate or the important?

Yesterday I brought forth an
opportunity for us to change the lives of
the people of Kenya by continuing our
covenant relationship with Hannah
Wairimu. Hannah is a young lady who
is pursuing her dream of serving God as
a pastor in Kenya. For a woman to serve
as a pastor she must have something
special that most of the pastors in Kenya

L.O.L. & Christmas:
Volunteer NOW!
The Christmas season is here and it brings
with it our newest mission project. Our
Lunches of Love project will feed close to 400
children every weekday during the school L.O.L.
holidays. We need volunteers to work shifts:
9-11:30 a.m. to make sandwiches and fill
sacks or from 10:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. to deliver
the lunches to our three pick up locations.
There is a sign-up sheet on the Missions table
outside the Sanctuary. An organizational
meeting is set for Saturday, Dec. 19, at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall to fill
you in on the details you’ll need. Please join us as we embark on this
ambitious, worthwhile and much needed project to feed some of Jesus
littlest lambs. Please talk to Adriane Gray, our volunteer coordinator, if you
have any questions. Call 281-467-7250 to talk with her.

The United Methodist Men’s Christmas Banquet
is set for Thursday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available
from Johnnie Cooper. Everyone is invited to attend this special evening.
Forms to order poinsettia plants are available at both entrances
to the Sanctuary. Please drop the completed form with payment
in the offering plate or bring it by the office.
A children's Advent Craft Day will be held Sunday, December 13th from
1:00-4:00 in the Fellowship Hall. Kids will have the opportunity to enjoy 10 Christmas
crafts such as homemade ornaments, cookie decorating, scrapbooking, painting,
snacks and much more! Pre-registration is required. Cost is only $5 per child to
participate in the afternoon of crafts. Adults must stay with children during the event -
you don't want to miss all the fun! Registration forms available in the Education
Building or Elizabeth can email one to you. Don't wait or all the slots will be taken.
Volunteers also are needed to assist with this event. Please email Elizabeth Fairfield
at elizabethfairfield@sbcglobal.net or call her at 281-610-0035 if you will help.
Christmas is just a few weeks away and we once
again have the opportunity to show our staff how very Staff
much we appreciate all that they do for us throughout Christmas
the year. We are collecting the love offering earlier so Love
that we can distribute it before Christmas, so we ask Offering
that you prayerfully consider your gift and bring it
before Dec.13. Thank you for your part in this gift of

Hey, Youth!
Last Thursday night my mom invited me to go caroling with her and some of her
church friends. I like to sing...not sure other people like me to sing but I like to
sing...so I decided to go. It was a blast! Everyone was laughing and singing...it was
impossible not to feel the Christmas spirit! But by the time we got to the last place
we had sung a lot of songs and so they asked us to shout out our favorites. And
that's when the truth came out...my favorite Christmas song isn't one about a lively
Snowman or even about joy to the world. It's not fast or exciting or even particu-
larly upbeat. No my favorite Christmas song is O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. OK
so now you are like...yeah I like that one all right but it's not my favorite...that's
kind of a weird favorite. But I love it! I'm sure you know all the words but in case
you don't it goes like this...O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Is-
rael, that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear. Rejoice! Re-
joice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel. So why is it my favorite? Cause it's
what Christmas is really all about. I know it says Israel...but aren't we all in ex-
ile? Aren't we all slaves to something...our things, our thoughts, our fears, our de-
sires, or our selfishness? We are all chained to something and those chains keep us
from getting to God. But then there's Christmas! And the Son of God appears and
he pays the ransom for us and we are no longer bound to the things of this
earth! Rejoice, Rejoice!! We have been set free by God with us, Emmanuel. So
when you are feeling chained to all the things in this world that keep us separated
from God ...Rejoice! Because Jesus paid the ransom for us when he was born into
this world and died for our sins. This Christmas celebrate the fact that your Savior
has arrived and you have been set free! We are no longer slaves! So prepare your-
selves for your salvation and rejoice because Emmanuel has come!!
