Continued from page 1
when she began noticing
unusual rashes. At the time,
her doctor believed they
were just a side effect of
being pregnant, and it took
nearly a year before doctors
realized it was Lupus not
uncommon for the disease.
Sometimes it can take
four years or more of testing to become diagnosed,
said Saunders.
According to The Lupus
Foundation of America, the
disease is often called the
great imitator because
its symptoms are similar to
those of rheumatoid arthritis, blood disorders, fibromyalgia, diabetes, thyroid
problems, Lyme diseases
and numerous muscle, bone,
lung and heart diseases.
The name, lupus, comes
from the Latin word for
wolf and is attributed
to 13th century physician
Rogerius who used it to
describe erosive facial
lesions akin to a wolfs bite.

Oregon Votes rally

Oregon Area Progressives held an Oregon Votes Rally at Waterman Park on Thursday, Sept.
6. The open mic rally kicked off the fall election season and encouraged the public to register
to vote. Sen. Mark Miller and Eileen Harrington, a representative of the Mary Burke campaign,
also shared their political thoughts on the governors race with those in attendance.

In addition to being constantly tired and in pain,

she said. Thank God

What is lupus?

State Sen. Mark Miller spoke during the Oregon Votes Rally.

Money Smart For Older Adults

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory

disease that occurs when a bodys immune system
attacks its own tissues and organs. There is no
known cure.
Common symptoms include, but are not limited
to, fatigue, headaches, painful joints, fever, anemia,
pain in chest, hair loss and abnormal blood
clotting.
Its severity can range from mild to lifethreatening. It is not contagious.
About 1.5 million American have lupus, and
more than 16,000 new cases are reported annually
across the country. About 5 million people
throughout the world have some form of lupus.

Coach: Amato had worked

School District teacher and

sports coach last school
year, was charged in Dane
County Circuit Court with
two felony counts of exposing his genitals/pubic area/
intimate parts to a child,
according to online records.
Alleged offense dates are
listed as June 29 and Aug. 2
of this year, after he had left
the district.
Oregon School District
superintendent Brian Busler
told the Observer Thursday
the Oregon School District
hired Amato in mid-July to
be the assistant girls tennis
coach, and he had worked
with the team for a few
weeks last month before
district officials heard about
the allegations last week and
put him on administrative
leave. When they received
the criminal complaint on
Wednesday, which included
his admission of guilt to a
police officer, he was terminated immediately.
Busler said nothing
improper came up in the
districts criminal background check of Amato. A
Wisconsin Circuit Court
records check on Amato
showed only a prior traffic
citation.
(Background checks)
are not predictors of behavior, Busler said.
He said the high school
athletic director recently
talked with the tennis players and coaches about the
matter, and they didnt
report any similar incidents
with Amato.
We had no indication
of anything unusual with
any of the interactions, he
said. Its a huge reminder
to parents and adults on the
challenges of social media.
As parents, we have to be
monitoring our kids electronic devices on social
media. Its a different world
than most parents have
grown up in.

Alleged incidents
Amato worked as a oneyear temporary teacher and
coach for the Stoughton
Area School District from
Aug. 28, 2013 to June 10,
2014, teaching social studies
and serving as a freshman
football coach, eighth-grade
boys basketball coach and
assistant boys tennis coach.
According to the criminal complaint, a 17-yearold female Stoughton High
School student who knew
Amato from the school told
Stoughton police that a few
months ago she and another
16-year-old female student
received requests from him
to be friends on Facebook. He also asked them

on Nov. 4 referendums
Continued from page 1

to be friends on Snapchat,
a photo messaging app that
limits how long recipients
can view photos or videos
sent (generally a matter of
seconds), after which they
are hidden from both the
recipient and the Snapchat
server.
She said on Aug. 2,
around 2 a.m. she received
a Facebook message from
Amato to the effect of
come and get what you
always wanted, as well as
Snapchat photos of his face
and a penis and a video of
an ejaculating penis.
The 16-year-old student
told police Amato sent her
Facebook messages on
June 29, asking if she was
still awake and wanted to
sneak out and meet up
with him, according to the
criminal complaint. After
denying the requests, she
told police he sent her his
Snapchat name, and she
added him as a friend.
A short time after, she
said he sent her a series of
photographs, first one of his
face, then one of him fully
clothed, then one of him
apparently putting his hands
down his boxer shorts.
She said the last photo she
received of him was one of
his exposed penis.
According to the criminal
complaint, police contacted
Amato on Aug. 28 about
the incidents, and he admitted sending Facebook messages and Snapchat photos
to one of the students, as
well as photos of his penis
on Snapchat but said that
was only to people at least
18 years old.
When pressed on the age
of the student, Amato eventually admitted he knew she
was not yet 18 years old, and
admitted to sending multiple
photos of his penis, as well
as a video of him masturbating. He also admitted sending photos of his penis to the
other student, who he told
police he knew was also not
18 years old.
Stoughton Area School
District officials released a
statement Wednesday that
read, in part, The safety of
our students is the top priority for the Stoughton Area
School District, and our staff
have been and will continue
to cooperate with our local
law enforcement agencies
to provide a secure learning
environment for all.
According to the criminal complaint, each felony
charge carries a maximum
penalty of up to three years,
six months imprisonment
or a fine up to $10,000, or
both. Amato has an initial
appearance scheduled for
Oct. 13 in Dane County
Circuit Court.

Obituary
Erik Leif Anderson

Erik Leif Anderson

After a courageous nineyear battle with Synovial Sarcoma, Erik Leif Anderson, surrounded by loved ones, slipped
into Heaven on Sept. 4, 2014,
greeted by his old dog, Ruby,
and many loved ones. Erik was
born on Dec. 8, 1974, to Marcella (Anderson) Anderson and
Ed Anderson. Starting life as a
tiny little baby, he grew into a
6-foot-6-inch gentle giant.
He spent his childhood in
Oregon. Using the world as his
playground, he always wondered how and why, and
spent hours trying to figure
it out. After high school, he
worked at Gary Willies Service Station, Machine Services,
Forms Pro Printing, Don Miller
Dodge and Fair Valley Performance. Erik married his true
soul mate, Debra Fago, on Sept.
15, 2007. Together they loved
and laughed through life.
Erik liked to camp, ride his
4-wheeler, hunt, spend time
with his family and friends and
was an avid Packers, Badgers
and Brewers fan. He had a very
special connection with animals,
training his dogs, Daisy and
Cinder, to be almost human.
Erik is survived by his wife,
Deb; mother, Marce Anderson;

father and step-mother, Ed

(Nancy) Anderson; brother,
Thor (Dana) Anderson; mother-in-law, Janice Fago; brother-in-law, Darren (Melissa)
Fago; nieces and nephews, Ian,
Kyleigh and Raeleigh Anderson and Miles Fago; maternal
grandfather, Ellery Anderson;
and many aunts, uncles, cousins
and friends.
Erik was greeted in Heaven
by his maternal grandmother,
Marguerite Anderson; paternal
grandparents, Thor and Ethel
Anderson; father-in-law, George
Fago; and many loved ones.
Erik truly had the type of
smile that lit up a room as he
walked in. Erik was a wonderful
friend to have and would go the
extra mile to help make things
five times better. His bravery and courage throughout his
long battle inspired us all. Eriks
sense of humor had us laughing,
even as he continued on his final
journey. As he did throughout
his life, he took control of his
situation saying to Deb, Well,
Ive either got to get busy living or get busy dying. He was
our hero. We will miss and love
you forever, Erik. Farewell Mr.
Incredible, you are awesome.
Funeral services were held at
St. Aloysius Catholic Church,
545 Prairie Ave., Hillsboro, on
Monday, Sept. 8, 2014. Burial
will be at St. Joseph Cemetery,
Mt. Tabor. Special thank you to
Dr.s Maki, Benz, Goodspeed
and Giesen, and also the nurses
and staff for all the care they
gave Erik. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to establish a memorial fund in Eriks
name. Online condolences may
be made at gundersonfh.com.

Let the public relations offensive

begin.
With the districts pair of failed

officials and board members are
trying to make sure their message
gets out to the public before the
Nov. 4 vote. Some criticism of the
failed referendums included a lack
of clear communication from the

and why, something board members are clearly trying to avoid this
time around.

the board Monday night about ways
to inform residents of the importance of passing the two measures.
Its very difficult to reach everyone at the same time, Donovan
said. What is it exactly that we
want to communicate with them?
Steve Zach, the only current
member who was on the board during the 2012 referendums, said that
unsuccessful effort will undoubtedly be brought up.
We failed on a $33 million referendum; now were (asking for)
$55 million, he said. Its critical that one of our main points be
that as a result of that (failure), the

district re-evaluated strategic needs

for every building in the district and
discussed with all the stakeholders
and adopted a facilities management plan.
(This) isnt the full plan, but
this was the plan we thought was
critical, that needed to be done now,
and economically its the best time
to be done, because its going to
have to be done sometime.
Milsna suggested that board
members take every opportunity to
talk with residents about the referendum, providing information and
asking questions as needed.
It might be a phone call with an
individual, it might be a coffee with
a small group of people, it might
be a larger group like a PowerPoint presentation with a chamber
group, she said. Its different levels of engagement.
The district will soon issue a
newsletter to residents, providing
a frequently asked questions page
and other information about the referendum.

Burke: Village examines police oversight, policies

Continued from page 1
Burke, who had been paid
$1,846 per week as a consultant
with the title of interim police
chief during former chief Doug
Pettits medical
leave since June,
will not be paid
extra nor have any
additional duties
as a result of the
title change, save
for formal statutory authority that Burke
had previously
been Pettits.
In fact, Burke will almost certainly be paid less than he was
before, as his new agreement
will provide a combination of
salary and hourly pay that will
be capped at the same amount.
Burke is expected to work less
than full time much of the time.
The switch, rather, was an
acknowledgement of the change
in situation with Pettits retirement, something that had been
expected all along but was not
effective until Sept. 1. The villages police commission voted
Aug. 26 to make Burke the acting police chief.
Village administrator Mike
Gracz told the Observer on Monday afternoon that the village
will work with the commission to
determine a process for hiring a
permanent chief. Burke, a former
University of Wisconsin police
administrator, has held several
consultant roles since retiring
in 2010 and made it clear to the
Observer on Tuesday he is not
looking for a permanent position.
This is definitely short-term,
he said, while acknowledging that it likely will be several
months before the position is
filled permanently. My job now
is to fill the gap between Chief
Pettits retirement and when the
village sees fit to fill the position.

Errors in judgment
Burkes first official act in that
technically new role was presenting a plan for responding to
the actions of officers involved
in the Union Sports Club controversy, which sparked a state

Department of Justice investigation and led to the villages deeper probe of the police department. That plan includes a mix
of counseling, mentoring and
training which will take place
over the period of time that I am
employed by the village, Burke
said in a statement he released
after the board meeting.
Two weeks ago, the village
released results of its internal
investigation, which found that
Pettit, among other things, hid
incidents at the Union Sports
Club, took cash payments for
officers off-duty security work
there and distributed the cash
to them under the table. It concluded Pettits actions were reprehensible and officers should
have known their undocumented
moonlighting was not approved
by the village.
But Burke, in his three months
here so far, had found that violations were unintentional errors
in judgment and that the officers have since cooperated fully, according to the statement.
Burke also told the Observer
it is his belief there will be no
state discipline of the officers
involved, either. He said he has
spoken with a person involved in
that investigation and was able
to confirm that the investigation does not involve any current
members of the department.
Burke is otherwise out of the
loop, he said, but he agreed that
statement suggested only one
person remains the subject of
that investigation: Pettit.
Prior to his retirement, Pettit had been the longest-serving
police chief in the state, at 29
years.
And with Burke acting as a
buffer between the culture Pettit created in the department and
whoever will follow him, the acting chiefs plan is to ensure that
there are no outstanding issues
or legacy problems for the new
chief to deal with.
I dont want that individual
to have to look in the rear-view
mirror, Burke said.
He said he expects the board
will want to put a little time and
space between the Pettit administration and whoever follows.

Changes ahead
In the meantime, Burke and the
village are preparing to ensure
such problems are avoided in
the future with clearer oversight
of the police department. Gracz
informed the board that the public safety and protection committee plan to discuss new policies
beginning Sept. 29.
Just because the investigation
is over with, were not done,
village administrator Mike Gracz
told the Observer on Monday.
Currently, the police chief
is hired and fired by the Police
Commission, and officers face
discipline through that commission only at the chiefs request.
The Village Board oversees the
chief, who in turn oversees his
department.
One potential way of changing
the management structure, for
example, could give the administrator greater oversight of either
the department or the chief.
But that could be a complicated
change, Gracz explained, so the
committee might spend the bulk
of its time early on discussing
policy changes.
Already, the board made one
policy clarification this spring,
when it prohibited sworn officers
from working off-duty while representing themselves as village
officers (in uniform).
But Burke is looking for more
substantive change in his time as
acting chief. He said any problems within the department so
far are fixable and correctable
and that the best way to repair
any broken connections with the
community is through communication.
Already, he has begun planning meetings with community
groups like the Rotary, the school
district and the Chamber of Commerce. He wants his officers to
reach out and develop partnerships within the community, as
well.
Thats one of my strengths,
Burke said. I really encourage
people if they have issues or concerns, talk to me, because Ill listen.

Letter to the Editor

Village lucky to have Staton

As many of you know, the
Village of Oregon has concluded their investigation
of former police chief Doug
Pettit.
The investigation
remains ongoing by the
Wisconsin Department of
Justice, to include felony misconduct in public
office.
I feel that Village
President Steve Staton
deserves an enormous
amount of credit regarding the leadership and
forthrightness he exhibited
throughout this matter.
Staton did not back down
or pretend that something

very wrong was not occurring as I experienced

with the law enforcement
committee in 1993.
I worked with Pettit for nine years. I witnessed his conduct
that caused me ethical
and legal concerns to the
degree that I notified each
member of the law
enforcement committee.
For the sake of brevity my concerns
were ignored. I attempted
to solicit support from
fellow officers at that
time who had approached
me previously with their
concerns in my capacity as

their supervisor.
I am deeply disappointed in the two
senior officers, now
retired, that cowered down
and would not stand next
to me when I approached
the committee with information.
Now 21 years later, the
Village of Oregon has
had to contend with similar
concerns. You were fortunate to have had Steve
Staton as your village president during this situation.

Yes or No?
Sometimes the shortest and oldest words are the
ones requiring the most thought. We all know the
meaning of yes and no, but do we understand the
power we can wield by using them, and do we fathom
the depth to which they can penetrate our lives? Do
you instinctively say yes to life, or are you a naysayer
who denounces everything? Yes is the eternal affirmation, the cosmic optimism. No is the eternal negation
and cosmic pessimism. Lets face it: life is a mixed
bag. There is plenty of both good and bad, and good
and evil in the world. But the power of yes is stronger
than the power of no. Love will win out over hate. So,
we should be on the side of yes.
Christopher Simon
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was
not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. For all the
promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it
is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his
glory.

Mark Venditto thinks

another pizza place is just
what Oregon needs.
Thats why he spent
years working to bring Papa
Murphys to the old Capital Creamery building, and
hes excited for the chain
to compete with alreadyestablished Pizza Pit, La
Roccas and Marias Pizza.
He believes the product
they sell can do that.
Its good to have competition, he said. It keeps
everybody honest.
Everybodys got their niche
and we have a great product.
He pointed to fresh ingredients as a big factor in that.
The other obvious difference is the Take N Bake
idea, in which the ingredients are put together at the
store, but customers cook
the pizza themselves at
home.
Venditto is not new to
promoting Papa Murphys,
either, as he worked in the
companys corporate office
for nine years until one of
the franchisees he consulted with called him with an
idea.
Joel (Meyer) called me
one day, and says, Hey
Ive got an opportunity to
buy some stores in Madison, want to partner up?
Venditto recalled. I said,
Sure, lets do it. Now
were here.
Here is seven-and-ahalf years later, as Venditto opened his ninth Papa
Murphys in the Wisconsin market in Oregon to go
with Meyers 12 in Minnesota.
Venditto said he and
Meyer had been looking at
the new Oregon location,
710 Janesville St., for four
years. There was just one
hurdle: corporate.
They have intersections that they want, and it
wasnt one of their intersections, Venditto said. So
we had to write a whole
synopsis of why we think
this will be good and compare it to some of the outlying stores.
They did, and after about
three years, the corporate
office gave them the goahead to move forward with
the project.
That was not the last
roadblock for opening the
restaurant, however, as the
original floor plans from
corporate had everything
backwards, Venditto
said. So they had to redo
the floor plan and get it
reapproved, causing a delay
in opening from February
to June.
It was a process, but its
been well worth the wait,
he said.
So far Venditto, whose
other stores include locations in Fitchburg, Verona,
Middleton and Waunakee,
said hes enjoyed the community feeling in Oregon.
Its a very tight-knit
community, he said. In
my experience with Papa
Murphys, the outlying
stores, away from Madison,

Firefly Coffeehouse owner Erika Weidler said the expanded kitchen space has
helped the shop increase its bakery offerings.

It had been four or five years since Firefly Coffeehouse last expanded its operation.
But owner Erika Weidler noticed the bakery operation needed a bit more room, and once they started
on that, it kind of snowballed into the whole entire
area.
Now, Oregons Living Room has a new floor
throughout as well as more room in the kitchen as
demand has increased.
Its really transformed the space, Weidler said.
The shop was closed for two days in late August
to complete the upgrades, but Weidler said the final
product was well worth moving everything furniture item out and then back inside.
With the changes that we made to our bakery
area our horizons are huge now, she said. I
didnt realize how much that small space was holding us back.

Emma Hughes paced a group of

five juniors to lead the Oregon girls
cross country team to a 12th place
finish Saturday at the Verona Invitational.
Hughes finished her first 5k course
23rd overall in 21 minutes, 1 seconds.
Coach told us to just feel out the
race and get a base since this was the
first 5k any of us have run, Hughes

said. I just tried to have the same

mindset I always have just to do my
best and to push it as much as I can.
I thought I would be tired sooner,
but couldnt really tell the difference
between the 4k and 5k distance.
Seventeen seconds separated
Oregons second and third runner as
Maddie LeBrun and Connie Hansen finished 70th and 78th overall in
22:34 and 22.51, respectively.
Caity Lucas (23:10) and Emily
Zernick (23:27) rounded out the Panthers pack 17 apart in 90th and 96th
place.

Carolyn Vogt and Alexa Peterson

also competed, but did not score.
All seven girls said it didnt feel
any different, head coach Doug
Debroux said. We do 5k workouts.
I told them they were ready for this.
They just had to get through the mental barrier.
Middletons top three runners all
finished behind Madison West athletes, but the Cardinals placed their
final two varsity runners ahead of
the Regents to take top team honors,
67-68. Fellow Big Eight Conference
rival Madison Memorial (89) took

third place.
WIAA Division 2 state runner-up
Amy Davis won the race in 18:24
to help Madison Edgewood to fifth
place 55 points ahead of Stoughton.
The thing I really like about our
team right now is that we are young
and everyone is working hard,
Debroux said. We werent here
to peak at this meet after doing our
workout at Elver Park on Wednesday.
Weve got a lot of young girls
that are just going to improve over
the course of the year.

Senior Josh Christensen led the Oregon High School boys cross country team with a 29th-place finish at Saturdays
Verona Invitational. Christensen covered the 5k course in 17 minutes, 19 seconds to help the Panthers finished 13th
overall.

Oregon boys cross country athlete

Josh Christensen broke away from the
pack and ran to a team-best 29th-place
finish Saturday at the Verona Invitational.
With junior Chris Cutter sitting out
the race, Christensen stepped up to
post a 40-second PR on the Randy
Marks Cross County course, navigating a very challenging course in
17 minutes, 19 seconds. That despite
coming just three days after the team
did their annual hill workout at Elver
Park.
The course felt really slow today,
but I was pretty happy and thought
I maintained a pretty decent pace
throughout the race, Christensen
said. .
Fellow senior Ryan Barry finished
57th overall in 18:01 as Oregons second runner. Senior Ben Vogt an sophomore Morgan Ballesteros crossed the
finish line six seconds apart in 18:29

and 18:35, respectively.

Junior Ben Janes rounded out the
Panthers top scores, taking 101st
place in 19:03. Senior Peter Kane also
competed, but did not score.
Oregon finished 13th overall out of
21 teams participating Saturday with
327 points.
Badger South Conference rivals
Monona Grove and Stoughton finished 10th and 11th overall.
It was a very competitive race
where we fell short of some of our
early season goals, but look forward to
seeing many of the same teams again
in the up coming weeks, Haakenson
said.
Both seniors Olin Hacker (15:21)
of Madison West and Ryan Nameth
(15:33) of Verona broke the course
record.
Madison La Follette, however, held
off the Regents despite Hackers performance placing its final three runners ahead of West for the 46-51 victory. Middleton rounded out the top
three with a 134.

Oregon Soccer Club

Annual tournament
doubles numbers
Anthony Iozzo
Assistant sports editor

The Oregon Soccer Club is

celebrating its 25th anniversary this weekend for its annual
tournament and only fundraiser of the year, but it nearly
didnt happen.
After numbers dropped
from around 110 teams to 75,
there was talk about ending
the tournament. But when the
board came together to discuss what would happen if the
tournament ceased, it became
clear that something else had
to be done.
We would have to raise
registration fees by $20 a
player to make up for the lost
tournament money, said Pete
McCombs, co-director of the
tournament.
So instead of ending it, the
board decided to move the
tournament from July to September to attract more numbers.
McCombs said that after
June, the spring season ends
for most youth teams, leading
to the need for new teams to
be created for the tournament.
Those complaints led to less
and less teams each season.
So the tournament was
moved to the weekend with
the least amount of conflicts,
Sept. 13-14.
And that move despite
losing U15-19 boys teams
due to WIAA rules helped

But the move wasnt the
only change. Some people
might remember that the tournament was called the Oregon
Soccer Internationale tournament the past few years.
That name has now
changed to the Fall Fury tournament.
McCombs said the reason
was due to the confusion with
the old name.
When the tournament
began, two teams from Mexico joined the field, and it led
to the board to name the tournament Internationale. But
for more than a decade, there
hasnt been any international
teams.
McCombs said it became
embarrassing for the club

The Oregon Soccer Club celebrates

its 25th year hosting an annual
tournament for youth and adult
teams, but this year will have some
changes.
The tournament was moved from
July to this weekend, Sept. 13-14,
and the named was changed from
the Oregon Soccer Internationale
tournament to the Oregon Fall Fury
tournament.
The change in times affects the
amount of boys teams, as high
school players cannot play in other
tournaments per WIAA rules, but
the event is still the chief fundraiser for the Oregon Soccer Club.

Big. Strong. Fast and

well coached. There is a
reason why the Monona
Grove football team has
won the last six Badger
South titles.
And while Oregon
matched the host Silver
Eagles for a while Friday,
mistakes ultimately cost
the Panthers on their way
to a 38-7 loss
MG is the total package, they gotbeatweek one
by Mount Horeb and they
turned around and beat a
very good Deforest team
21-0, Oregon head coach
Dan Kissling said. We
knew we had to bring our
A game and we didnt.We
made too many mistakes,
and against good teams you
cant do that.
Already trailing 14-0
through one quarter, Oregon surrendered two more
touchdowns before quarterback Trent Ricker capped
the Panthers lone scoring
drive with a 1-yard touchdown run late in the second
quarter. Ricker connected
on 4-of-13 through the
air for 104 yards. He also

turned the ball over once.

The Silver Eagles
marched down the field for
a 26-yard field goal and a
28-7 lead before halftime.
Returning first-team allconference running back
Toren Young, who rushed
the ball 26 times for 197
yards, had three touchdown
runs for the Silver Eagles.
While only throwing the
ball nine times, completing five for 55 yards, MG
racked up 324 yards and
five touchdowns on the
ground.
Monona Grove is good.
They might be better
than they were last year,
Kissling said. I thought
our team speed was pretty
good they matched it.
Junior halfback Lucas
Mathews eclipsed the century mark for the second
straight week to pace Oregon with 103 yards on 10
carries.
Oregon (2-1 overall, 0-1
Badger South) looks to
even its conference record
at 7 p.m. Friday at home
against winless Madison
Edgewood (0-3, 0-1). The
Crusaders are coming off
a 14-13 loss against Milton
(2-1, 1-0).

Junior No. 3 singles player Kenzie Torpy, shown playing against Monona Grove earlier this season, was one of two girls to earn wins
Tuesday against the Stoughton Vikings. Torpy defeated Stoughtons Kaitlyn Hedman 6-3, 6-2. Oregon lost the Badger South dual 5-2.

Oregon girls tennis split a pair of

Badger South Conference duals and
finished third overall at the Stoughton
Invitational over the weekend.

Stoughton 5, Oregon 2
Junior Kenzie Torpy and Claire
Massey secured the only wins Tuesday in a 5-2 loss at home against
Stoughton.
Massey breezed to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, while Oregons
No. 3 singles player Torpy cruised to
a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kaitlyn Hedman.
Junior Leah Koopman, who last to
Stoughtons Sarah Benoy at No. 1
singles in a super tiebreaker over the
weekend, played a scrappy match but
fell short again 6-4, 7-5.

DeForest at home on Monday, Sept.
15 before returning to conference
action the following day in Monroe.
Both duals are slated for 4:15 p.m.
starts.

Oregon 5, Milton 2
Leah Koopman cruised to her first
Badger South Conference win of the
season 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles last
Thursday against while Cassandre
Krier and Torpy added a 6-3, 6-3 and
6-0, 6-4 win, respectively en route to
a 5-2 Badger South Conference win
over host Milton.
Massey capped the singles sweep
7-5, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

and did anything but struggle against
the competition Saturday. In fact the
senior played all the way to the champion at the Stoughton Invitational,
defeating Stoughtons Kaitlyn Hedman 6-3, 6-2.
Freshman Bridget Corcoran added a
championship at No. 4 singles, defeating Stoughton senior Maddie Boegel
6-4, 3-6 (10-8) to help the Panthers

Oregon finished third at No. 1 doubles
were Pliner and Lewandowski beat Madison La Follette 2-6, 6-1 (10-8), while
Torpy dropped her third-place match 6-3,

Games begin at 8 a.m.

Auctioneers note: A local farmer purchased the farm LOCK-STOCK and BARREL from
Heinz Mischler before his passing. Heinz having no family in the US decided this was the best
option for him. Now we have all the personal property to be sold at auction. Heinz owned/
operated Fitchburg Foreign Cars for over 42 years and also had a passion of building and racing airplanes (there are trophies). We have some airplane related parts (to the best of our
knowledge) and will also be selling a Gyrocopter (1 person helicopter) that Heinz built and
flown. Some very old, very collectible items. It WILL be a very unique auction. Set aside the
day (Sept 13th) and plan on attending the auction and hear the history. Very Interesting!!
Also selling: John Deere 7720 combine and other pieces of farm machinery.Vespa Scooters:
Coins: Antiques & Collectibles: Jewelry: Lawn & Garden.
