Welcome!
Dear Residents of Punggol East,
Our fellow MPs and myself met up with the Singapore Police Force last
week. This is a semi annual meeting where we update one another on latest
town happenings and how we can engage SPF for assistance.

We were told that COPS (Community Policing System), one of the initiatives
rolled out by SPF in Punggol East, is well received. COPS involves teams
of police offcers who will conduct foot and bicycle patrols to build closer
relationship as well as enhance visibility in the neighbourhood. Specifc areas
of concern such as blocks with feedback on noise pollution and suspected
illegal activities will be patrolled more often.

SPF also pointed out an increase in a particular type of crime, online scams.
Scams such as pricing a product cheaply to attract buyers or love scam are
becoming very common with the use of social media and online shopping.
Please stay alert for these scams and please remind your loved ones.

Next, residents who qualify for the Pioneer Generation Package should have
received their cards via post. More information on whether you are a pioneer
and what are the benefts can be found in this website: https://www.cpf.gov.

Lastly, here is wishing all our school-goers all the best in their upcoming
examinations!
Thank you,
Lee Li Lian

comes under the purview of HDB and
these works are conducted by HDB.

2. Open feld next to Blk 161 River-
vale Crescent
Residents gave feedback on cricket-
ers playing their game too early at
7am during the weekends at the open
feld and suggested that the Town
Council put up signs to advise users
on the usage of the space. We spoke
to HDB and they conveyed the resi-
dents feedback to the two groups of
cricketers. They have agreed to start
their games only after 8.30 am during
the weekends. Signs will be put up to
advise users of the feld.
3. New Bus Stops along TPE

MEDIAN SALARY OF GRADUATE
AND DIPLOMA TEACHERS IN MOE
KINDERGARTENS AND PRIMARY
SCHOOLS (7 Jul 2014)
Ms Lee Li Lian asked the Minister for
Education what is the median salary
of teachers who are graduates and
diploma holders respectively at (i)
MOE kindergartens and (ii) primary
schools.
Mr Heng Swee Keat: ... Although
they start at a lower starting salary,
good performing teachers who are di-
ploma holders can progress to senior
positions in the Education Service,

priately. ...

DECISION ON LOCATIONS OF
SPEED CAMERAS AND CCTVS (5
Aug 2014)
Ms Lee Li Lian asked the Depu-
ty Prime Minister and Minister for
Home Affairs whether the Ministry can
expedite the installation of CCTVs at
selected blocks of fats ahead of their
scheduled installation especially in
places that have frequent police re-
ports of vandalism, robbery and loan-
shark activities.
Mr S Iswaran: ... The selection of
blocks and installation schedule takes
into account a variety of factors such
as local crime trends, community
feedback and recommendations from
the Town Councils. The objective is to
maximise the impact of Police camer-
as to prevent, deter and detect crime.
Police reviews the installation sched-
ule regularly. Such reviews allow us
to adjust the schedule in response to
changes in the ground situations. ...

One Day JB Farm Tour (22 and 29 June 2014)
On 22 and 29 June, residents of
Punggol East were up bright and
early to join us on our One Day JB
Farm Tour. We travelled across the
Causeway, visited an old kampung/
mushroom farm, birds nest factory,
and vegetable farm. Of course, no trip
is complete without at least one shop-
ping stop, or two. By the end of the
day, we returned with bags full, and
tummies even fuller. Cant wait for
the next trip, hopefully with MP Lee Li
Lian, who couldnt join us this time.

Punggol East SMC Hari Raya food
ration distribution took place on 20
July 2014 at the usual Blk 182 rental
block. Such regular food ration distri-
bution event was not uncommon sight
to the residents living in the rental
block. An hour before the distribution
started, residents were already seen
queuing up in an orderly fashion and
waited patiently for their turns to col-
lect their food ration items. This time
round, we also had 2 youths from the
Lions Youth Exchange program who
joined us. We hope that these young
girls from Japan will learn more about
sharing and giving through this simple
but yet meaning food ration distribu-
tion program and in time to come,
be able to contribute to society in
a meaningful way. Once again, we
would like to thank our sponsor for
their generosity, as well as volunteers
for their time and effort.

Lunar Seventh Month Festivities (3 August 2014)
Warna Warni Aidilftri di Punggol East (23 August 2014)
Similar to last year, Li Lian was invited
to this lunar 7th month festive cel-
ebration organised by residents stay-
ing around Blk 188D Rivervale Drive.
This organization, which started more
than 10 years ago, is still running
strong and supported by like minded
neighbours that come together to or-
ganise, plan and execute this event.
It is a great opportunity to build com-
radeship and support among people
staying in the same neighbourhood.
On the evening of 23 August 2014,
PECC held its annual Hari Raya cel-
ebrations at 186 Rivervale Drive.
The residents and patrons all came
dressed in vibrant outfts for the event,
and not to be outdone, the MPs too
arrived dressed colourfully for the oc-
casion with the Kompang entourage
and fower girls, followed by a tradi-
tional Malay dance performance by
the Glamz Dancer. Everyone tucked
into their dinner from the buffet lines
as they were entertained by perfor-
mances from the live band, dance
performances by MINDS, Rozie Ra-
him, and even reditions of traditional
Malay songs by our MP Lee Li Lian
and MP Sylvia Lim. Of course, not to
forget the fantastic job of the emcee of
the night as he continually entertained
everyone with songs and dances, and
keeping everyone in suspense for the
lucky draws. Thank you everyone for
sharing their joy and laughter for the
night! And a big thanks and shout out
to the event organisers and volun-
teers for their hard work!
