peared in North

America in print for

the first time having
been derived from
the Dutch word
koekje which mean
little cake. At Java
they are crisp, not too
sweet and amongst
the best and biggest
in town.
In the early 19th
century Dean Ma-
homet started a cof-
fee house that served
curries but no coffees
and was closed by
1812. This is a fact
that would never be-
fall Gagan Pradhan
and Himalayan Java
because not only are
they increasing their
coffee menu, theyre
thinking of starting a
chain. And why not?
America has its Star-
bucks and India has
Barista and Gagan
has already got two
more ventures he
can go for three, four,
and blast off. For
Java call Rocky at

HOW TO SOLVE: Every number from 1 to 9 must appear in each of the 9 vertical
columns, in each of the 9 horizontal rows and in each of the 9 boxes

YESTERDAYS SOLUTION
HOWTO SOLVE THT-DOKU: Place numbers into the puzzle cells in such a way that each row
and column contains each of the digits from1 up to 7. Like a Sudoku puzzle, no
number is repeated in any row or column. Each bold-outlined group of cells contains a hint
consisting of a number and one of the mathematical symbols + x - /. The number is the re-
sult of applying the mathematical operation represented by the symbol to the
digits contained within the domain.
ARIES (March 21-April 19): Defer to others, especial-
ly as you are focused on a key matter. Let them carry
the ball, but be ready for a surprise or two. You cannot
control others, so appreciate their individuality. Close
bonds are formed through less judgment. Tonight: Let the weekend
begin.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): You might have a case of
weekend fever. Your energy and willingness to
complete any pending work demonstrate how much
you want time off. Consider your plans and
expectations. Do your best to fulfil them. Tonight: You could be a
little wild.
LEO (July 23-Aug 22): Carefully finish up detailed
information in the morning. The unexpected runs riot
through your afternoon, lightening up the pace and
your mood if you have a sense of humour. In
what appears to be nothing less than a gawky move, someone
is expressing his or her caring. Tonight: Stop. Make time for
a friend.
PISCES (Feb 19-March 20): You could view anothers
behaviour with some cynicism. You question how you
can change the direction of what is happening. Stop
and remember that you cannot change anyone; but
you, personally, have options. Tonight: Open up to a trusted friend
and/or loved one.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22-Dec 21): Friends surround you
and will be most responsive in the afternoon. Invita-
tions, project ideas and a new opportunity all might
appear, adding to your choices. Do you feel that you
are on overload? Know that not everything needs to be handled im-
mediately. Tonight: Let go of stress, and accept an invitation.

SCORPIO (Oct 23-Nov 21): Use the a.m. for meetings

and interpersonal matters. For whatever reason, you
decide to cocoon and do some reflecting in the after-
noon. Some of you simply might be tired, but for many,
new information causes you to take another look at an important
matter. Tonight: Not to be found.
Born today: Born today: Political commentator George
Stephanopoulos (1961), radio and TV host Glenn Beck (1964),
actress Emma Roberts (1991) By Jacqueline Bigar
Note: Bigars Stars is based on the degree of your sun at birth. The sign
name is simply a label astrologers put on a set of degrees for convenience.
For best results, readers should refer to the dates following each sign.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): You seem to be more
creative and dynamic than you have been in a while. A
situation around work could become very strange or
unusual, if it isnt already! As soon as you can, join a
friend or family member. Tonight: At home, but dont let it be
alone.
VIRGO (Aug 23-Sept 22): Move quickly in the a.m.,
when you are more energised. Complications could
shatter the best-laid plans in the afternoon. Maintain a
sense of humour, and all will end well. Your sense of
well-being grows as a result of handling this hassle. Tonight: Treat a
friend well.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY: This year you juggle work, relationships and a
long-term dream. You might lean one way or another during parts of
the year. Depending on your background and needs, you will feel
more comfortable dealing with a specific area. If you are single,
youll meet someone quite exotic and different who opens doors
you have never seen. If you are attached, you see a dimension of
your mate that is new. Accept and grow with this side. LIBRA can
say awful comments without others even realising it until hours
later.
A baby born today has a Sun in Aquarius and a Moon in Libra if born
after 11:54 am (PST). If born before that time, the Moon is in Virgo.
YOUR LUCK
LIBRA (Sept 23-Oct 22): You might want to postpone
plans until the afternoon. At that point, you will resolve
issues spontaneously so much so that you might
not even recognise them. In this mood, you see only
pluses. A friend tosses perhaps too much caring on you! Tonight:
Start the weekend well.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Recognise that you are
human and can do only so much. Your own level of
energy will define the possibilities. On the other hand,
you could try the power of positive thinking. The
end results could be tremendously satisfying. Tonight: Put your feet
up.
CAPRICORN (Dec 22-Jan 19): Make a key phone call
or have an important meeting in the a.m., when others
are still in work mode. You have a lot of responsibilities
that could hold you back from making any more com-
mitments, or even entertaining the idea. Tonight: Count on a late
night
AQUARIUS (Jan 20-Feb 18): You might be wondering
what is best to do. This discussion involves another
person helping you to see a personal matter different-
ly. As soon as you can, cut the routine and take off. In-
vigorate your mind and body with a change of scenery. Tonight:
Open up to change.

the immortal Black
Coffee which

Im feelin mighty lone-
some, havent slept a wink;
I walk the floor from nine

Black coffee loves a
hand-me-down brew
Gagan Pradhan, who
owns Himalayan Java and is
both urbane and articulate,
had once said that he took a
risk with the expansive
premises of Himalayan Java
because it was very difficult
at first since everyone knew
instant coffee and it took
time to grow people up to
coffee beans and real coffee,
which Gangan gets from
Kavre.
We are keeping the food
menu small and we find dif-
ferent things are popular at
different time of the day.
Soup in the evening. In the
morning students working
on an assignment together
go for the Breakfast Wrap
and coffee.
The soups include a
hearty mixed vegetable
soup with carrots, beans,
celery and onions with
wonderful undertones.
The Breakfast Wrap is a
flour tortilla wrapped
around scrambled
eggs and sausages.
Pepper helps you to
make it through the
day. The salsa that
comes with it is fu-
sion at its best com-
bining the chopped
onion and tomato
salad of the East with
a lemon and vinegar
seasoning.
But to savour and
remember was a Chicken
Fajita Wrap which had let-
tuce, green pepper, green
garlic and chicken in a per-
fect combination.
Wraps came in the 80s
and were called Strollers be-
cause you could walk
around with them and
theyre still cool.
But the menu has
changed a bit since I was
last there and theyve added
another floor which has a
wood fired oven which
produces 18 pizzas in-
cluding one that
says, Meat Meat
Meat!!! Pizza, and
contrasts salami
chicken and
ham with the
cheese and
tomato piz-
za base.
Rocky,
who used to teach me about
coffee, is now manager and
I was served by Chun Ba-
hadur Rana and Suman Raj
Giri who knew all about 35
coffees to choose from and
the strong Long Black that I
love.
Upstairs along with the
oven is a coffee roasting ma-
chine from which rich aro-
mas of coffee waft down the
street at the head of Thamel
where Himalayan Java is lo-
cated. Follow them.
There are two Chefs
Navaraj Shrestha and
Naresh Tyata and the latter

talked about his menu like
the sandwiches which ac-
quire a touch of the classic,
for example the Ham Sand-
wich encases a myriad de-
lights including a touch of
Mayo and a crispness of let-
tuce. Eat it with a mixed
bean salad which has white
beans, red beans and green
beans in an exotic vinegar
dressing that has basil,
onions, mustard and secrets
that are Naresh Tyatas very
own.

THE MOVEABLE FEAST
It is said that honesty is the best policy, but then some also believe that a white lie never hurt
anyone. Would you always choose to be honest in any situation though it might hurt someone
or destroy relationships, or would you twist the truth as a situation demands? Why?

changed his mind now. He
will begin shooting for the

Filmmaker/anchor Jo-

with the fact that he want-
ed his fans to cherish the
memories of previous
three seasons and put an
end to the franchise. In
fact, he went ahead to de-
cline down the offer of one
of the leading channels for
season 4.
But, now Johar in full-
throttle, is all set to begin
with the new innings
which will have a new for-
