Anime

Anime is the name for animation made in Japan that has a distinct art and animating style. Anime is
written in Japanese and technically a shorter way of say animation but it refers specifically to
animation made in Japan. Anime can be told from other types of animation, as noted before, because of
its distinct art and animating style. Anime usually has characters with exaggerated hair, large eyes, small
mouths, and slim bodies. Animes animation typically uses more cuts and camera angles. Also as
mentioned before anime refers specifically to animation produced in Japan. Anime is actually not that old
but has a filled past of great animators.
The first anime ever to be produced was named Katsudou Shashin with an unknown creator. It is a 3
minute clip that runs for 3 seconds and was created in 1907. Later on there were more animations being
made. Notable silent-era animators include Oten Shimokawa, Junichi Kouchi, Seitaro Kitayama, Sanae
Yamamoto (Patten 1). These animators who produced in the 1920s helped push forward the production
of anime. Then in the 1930-1940s when anime gave away to the western-style fast-paced humor more
animators such as Mituyo Seo and Suihou Tagawa that made more militaristic themed animes(this was
during a Japan vs China war). During the World Wars animation slowed down but then afterward it
returned to the individual filmmakers but it was still slow since Japan was recovering from the war. They
also found their amateur films competing with the polished cartoons from American studios It soon
became clear that the Japanese animation lay in adopting the Western studio system (Patten 2).
In the 1980s, anime was accepted in the mainstream in Japan, and experienced a boom in production
(Anime History 1). Anime now has progressed much further and rather than individual animators there
are many companies to satisfy the increasing popularity of anime not just in Japan but in other countries
as well. Some well known companies today are Toei Animation, A-1 Pictures, Studio Pierrot, Madhouse,
Peach-Pit, and many more. The 1990s and 2000s saw an increased acceptance of anime in overseas
markets (Anime History 1). Modern anime has changed significantly from the older animes. Modern
anime has many more genres such as Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror, and more. The animation techniques and art
has improved too. Anime is still continuing to be produced even today.
In conclusion, anime has evolved and progressed a lot over the many years. It has gained much more
attention from people all over the world. Anime has risen to the tops of animation.
