Topic Outline/Activities

Participants will work in groups discussing scenarios of Digital Etiquette issues:

Think Before You Post
Cell Phone Use
Cyber bullying / Harassment
Inappropriate Information on Social Network


Two objectives of this course are to teach and model good digital manners to students
and to enforce etiquette rules throughout the school community. Participants will
engage in a sample lesson that will be used during the extended activities for the unit.
Sample lesson will include:

1. Watch a video
2. Read and discuss video scenario
3. Student Activity



Stage 3: Plan Learning Experiences

1. Before entering the website for Digital Citizenship, read over the BYOT
Policies/Procedures in the resource section. Identify rules for technology use.

2. Access the unit at http://mcgahadigitalcitizenship.weebly.com/

2. View unit presentation and participate in the activities and discussions.

4. Digital Etiquette scenarios will be discussed. Identify the 3 Rs for each scenario:

Recognize-What bad digital manner is taking place?
Response-What would your response be?
Rule-What rule should be given to help the issue?

5. Use Edmodo to upload responses to scenarios. (Special Needs in need of
accommodations will be paired with a peer)

6. Assessment: In groups of 2 to 3 make a list of vital rules of digital etiquette and
upload to Edmodo. (Special Needs in need of accommodations will be paired with a
peer)

Extension Activity

The rules will be reviewed with students and the following activities will be presented in
the classrooms over a three-month period.

Activities-Watch video scenarios and have class discussions on each topic. Have students
identify rules that cover each etiquette issue.

Teaching Tips


Teaching Tips

The teachers will be provided the policies (BYOT) that the district uses to handle technology
issues. The teachers should become familiar with the requirements of the BYOT so that they
can make the students aware.

Give examples of appropriate responses to etiquette issues. Discuss how some responses
are not appropriate and have teachers come up with a better response.

Discuss how issues can be handled without simply banning technology.
