When shall we three meet again?

In thunder, lightening,
or in rain?
When the
hurly-burlys done, When the
battles lost and won.
Upon the heath* Well
meet Macbeth there!!!
Fair is foul,
and foul is fair,
Hover through the fog
and filthy air!
In the Middle Ages, a time when people
believed in the powers of spirits and
witches. powerful men aspired to
become king. In the begining of this
tragic story. the scottish King, Duncan,
is attacked by rebels. In the raging final
battle between the king and the rebels,
the kings army was commanded by his most
trusted general, Macbeth. During the final
battles three witches met in the highlands
to see into the wyrd*...
*Destiny, that which comes
*an open Field
Perhaps this bloody
man can report to us about
the revolt.
Hail, brave sergeant!
Tell the king what happened in the battle
as you saw it.
At first it was doubtful who would win.
Both armies were equal in strength...
Then the merciless Macdonwald added soldiers from Ireland and
it seemed as if the enemy was going to win.
But Macbeth brandished his steel...
which smoked with bloody execution...
till he faced Macdonwald...
and finally fixed his head upon our
castle walls!
O valiant cousin, Macbeth!
A deadly battle between
King Duncans of Scotland
army and the rebels army
is raging at Fife. In his
camp, away from the
battlefield, Duncan
and his sons
Malcolm and
Donalbain are
waiting for
news of the
battle...
Meanwhile, the King of Norway arrived with his army
and began a fresh assault!
Didnt this scare
our captains, Macbeth and Banquo?
About as much as a sparrow scares an eagle! They
marched ahead fearlessly to meet the new invaders!
But I am faint from
my wounds, I need help...
Go get him to the surgeons, son.
Just then two noblemen arrived to see the King.
Father, it is the
worthy thane of Ross.
From where
do you come, worthy
thane?
From Fife,
great King. I have news
for you.
It seemed that we were to be
defeated by King Sweno of Norway and
that most disloyal traitor, the thane
of Cawdor.
Then Macbeth arrived with his
army and victory fell on us!
Great happiness!
King Sweno is ready to sign a treaty
with you and paid us ten
thousand dollars.
I will execute the thane
of Cawdor for his treason.
And I will reward Macbeth
for his valiant work in
the battlefield.
Go tell noble Macbeth he
is now thane of
Cawdor!
A drum, a drum!
Macbeth has come.
What are these creatures!?
So withered and so wild in
their clothes...?
Speak if you can:
what are you?
Hail, Macbeth,
thane of Glamis!
Hail, Macbeth,
thane of Cawdor!
Hail, Macbeth,
the NEXT KING OF
SCOTLAND!!!
Good Macbeth,
why do you fear such good
things these fantastical
creatures are telling you?
If you can see the
future what do you see in
it for me? Im not afraid,
tell me.
Lesser than Macbeth
and greater...
Not so happy,
yet much happier...
Your
sons will be
kings but you will not.
So all hail, Macbeth
and Banquo!
After the victorious battle, Macbeth and his general and
good friend Banquo went to meet the king at his castle
in Forres. The three witches had arranged to meet them
in the windy and rainy night...
What do they mean by
saying I am also the Thane
of Cawdor? And king
of scotland?
After making their prophecies the witches vanished.
Wait! I know Im thane of Glamis,
but how of Cawdor? And to be King?!
Speak I command you...!
Where did they disappear?
Into thin air!!!
The kings captains, Ross and Angus approached
Macbeth and Banquo as they prepared to leave.
The King happily received your
good news of battle won. He
has rewarded you with the
new title of thane of
Cawdor.
What,
can the
devil speak
true?!
The thane of Cawdor lives.
Why do you give me his title?
He is to be executed for his
treason. You are the new thane
of Cawdor now.
At this news Macbeth took Banquo
to one side.
What do you make of this?
Do you now hope your children
will become kings? The witches
words are coming true!!!
Two of their predictions have
already come true! This is a good thing.
But when I think about the other
prediction of becoming King of Scotland,
I find myself thinking the most awful
thoughts of murder and this brings
great fear to my heart.
Banquo, think about what the
witches told us. Well talk about
it again later.
Gladly.
Now,
lets go meet the King.
Inside Duncans castle, Malcolm brought news to his father.
Has the rebel Cawdor
been executed yet?
Yes, he died confessing
his treason against you, father.
Shortly after, Macbeth and his men reached the kings
castle and were immediately taken to meet the king.
Welcome cousin! I owe you
more than I can ever repay.
And you noble Banquo.
If so, dear Macbeth, this may
make you wish for the crown...
Is it not strong how the instruments
of darkness sometimes tell
us the truth about trifles only to
betray us to do evil things of
deepest consequence?
Im overjoyed to have my closest men
around me. Today I give the title of
Prince of Cumberland to my eldest son,
Malcolm.
And now, Macbeth,
lets go to your castle in Inverness*
and celebrate!
Ill go ahead and let my wife
know to expect you, my lord.
As Macbeth prepared to leave for his castle in Inverness,
dark, evil thoughts crossed his mind again.
I must either step
over him or give up.
Stars,
hide your fires;
Let not light
see my black and
deep desires.
Lady Macbeth sat reading
a letter alone at Inverness
castle.
They also
called him King
of Scotland!?
Her servant entered the chamber with news.
The King
comes here
tonight!
Are you mad!
Macbeth is with the king.
He would have told me if
they were coming.
It is true, a messenger just
arrived with the news. Our
thane is coming, followed
shortly by King Duncan,
my lady.
So...the messenger rushes to announce
King Duncans entrance into my castle,
where he will surely die! I must
be strong.
I must think about Duncans son
Malcolm, he is Prince now and stands
in my way in becoming king of
Scotland
Macbeth writes: Rejoice with me my
dear and lay this next to your heart.
The witches predicted I would be
Thane of Cawdor and I
became that
Glamis and Cawodor you are, husband, and shall
be what is promised! Yet I fear your nature:
it is too full of the milk of human kindness,
To catch what is nearest
to you.
Desire and amibition you have: but lack the illness
necessary for foul play. come home soon so I may
pour my spirts in your ear, so you will fulfil fate
and prophesy.
Come, thick night, and
cover the world in
thickest smoke of hell,
so that my sharp knife
cant see the wound
it cuts...
and heaven cant peep through the
blanket of dark to cry No, stop!
I must stay strong, nothing must
stop my evil plan...
Macbeth entered his wifes room as soon as he
reached Inverness castle.
Great Glamis!
Worthy Cawdor! Youll soon be greater
than both, your letters have transported
me beyond all reason!
My dearest love,
Duncan comes
here tonight!
And when does he leave?
Tomorrow.
Then he shall never see tomorrow. Prepare to
meet the king with a welcoming smile, let me
handle tonights business... it will change our
lives forever!
Well speak about this later.
You must look relaxed, otherwise you
will arouse suspicion. Leave all
the rest to me.
A little later that night, King Duncan arrived with his men at Inverness Castle.
Such a fine castle.
The air is sweet and
gentle.
The summer birds
have made their nests here in the
castle walls. It is indeed a most
pleasant place!
Come, you spirits that tend on moral thoughts! Unsex
me! Fill me crown top-full with direst cruelty. Make
my blood thick! Block the passage to remorse!
Fill my womans breasts with gall
instead of milk, You ministers of murder!
Murder our King?!
Lady Macbeth came out to greet them.
Here is our honoured hostess!
But where is the thane of Cawdor?
We are all your
servants, your highness.
Everything we own is yours.
Fair and noble, hostess. Give me your
hand. Bring me to my host, Macbeth.
We love him dearly.
A great feast was laid out for King Duncan and his men at Macbeths castle.
But Macbeths thoughts about the murder he was to commit that night
troubled him and he left the feast early.
Lady Macbeth, worried her husband would
change his mind, followed him outside.
We will not go on with our plan of murder.
The king has just honoured me.
Have you now turned
coward, saying, I dare not
after saying I want to?
Please, STOP!
I dare only do what is proper
for a man to do.
When you dared to do it,
thats when you were
a man!
What if we
should fail?
We, fail? Not
if you screw your courage
to the sticking-place.
Are you to be as weak
in this as you are in our bed?
Hey! Stop!!! I dare
do all that may become
a man...
Then you can stab the king in his sleep
and lay the bloody knives and the blame
on the drunken servants.
Its settled. Away,
false face must hide what the
false heart doth know.*
While uncan is asleep Ill put
drugs in his guards ale so
theyll get so drunk that theyll
sleep like swines
Alone, Macbeth waited for Lady
Macbeths signal to enter King
Duncans quarters.
In a bright flash, a ghostly dagger appeared before Macbeth.
Is this a
dagger which
I see before
me?
He tried to grab
it but failed to
touch it.
The handle
points at me, come,
let me hold you!!!
I dont have
you and yet I
see you... fatal
vision!
Are you a
dagger of my
mind only?!
Just then a bell rang. The signal from
Lady Macbeth that all was ready.
The bell
inviting me
to a murder!
Dont listen to it
Duncan.
It summons you to
heaven or to hell!!!
Lady Macbeth anxiously waited outside King Duncans chambers.
Macbeth rushed out carrying daggers dripping with blood.
My husband! I have done the deed*,
Duncan is dead!
Did you hear
a noise?
Only the screech
of an owl.
Listen! Who sleeps in the second room?
Donalbain,
the kings
son.
This is a
sorry sight.
As I stabbed Duncan, a voice cried out,
Glamis has murdered sleep...so Macbeth
shall sleep no more!
Dont think in this cowardly way. Take
the bloody daggers back to the room
and smear the sleeping guards with
the blood...
No, I cant go back and look at
it again. Im afraid to think of
what I have done!!!
Coward! Give me the daggers.
The dead cannot hurt you.
Ill paint the guards faces
with Duncans blood, make
them look guilty.
Macbeth stared
at his bloody
hands in a
shameful daze.
Whose hands are these?
Will it take Neptunes* ocean to
wash this blood clean from my hands?
When Lady Macbeth returned her
hands were as red with blood as
her husbands.
My hands are as bloody
as yours, let us go to our
chambers and wash our foul
deed away.
Knocking was heard at the south
entrance of the castle.
Listen, someone comes! Get on your
nightgown quickly in case someone
comes to call on you!
Id rather be asleep than awake
dwelling on the deed just done.
Macduff and Lennox knocked on the castle gate to be let in. The porter
eventually opened the door in a drowsy state.
Weve been
knocking for ages!
Did you go to
bed late?
We were
drinking till two
in the morning,
sirs...
Macbeth came to greet Macduff at the
castle entrance.
Our knocking
woke him. Here
he comes.
Good morrow,
noble sir.
Good morning,
gentlemen.
The king asked
me to wake him
early. I must go
to him.
Thats his door.
Ill take you to him.
No!
Ill wake him;
its my job.
Does the kingleave today?
He does.
Last night was terrible. The wind howled...cries of
grief were heard in the air...strange screams of
death...night birds screeched all night...
It was
a rough night.
Macduff came running out. A look of terror on his face.
O horror, horror, horror!
I can hardly speak. Its
beyond belief!!!
Whats the matter?
Murder!
Life has gone
from this
building!
What are you
talking about?
Do you mean
the king?
Come look at
the horror for
yourself...
Macduffs loud shouts woke everyone in the
castle. Lady Macbeth entered the Kings
chambers still wearing her night dress.
This news is not fit for
your ears, gentle lady...
Just then Banquo
arrived.
O Banquo,
Banquo, our royal
masters been
murdered!
What! In our
house?
Malcolm and Donalbain, the kings
sons arrived on the scene.
Whats wrong?
Your royal fathers
been murdered!
Oh! By whom?!
It seems that his guards had done it.
Their hands and faces were covered with
blood and so were their daggers,
found lying by their pillows.
Why did you kill
the guards, Macbeth?
In order to help her husband
from more questioning,
Lady Macbeth stepped in.
Help me,
please!
Take care
of the lady.
The murdered kings sons, Malcolm
and Donalbain discuss their future.
Lets not stay here with them.
Its not safe. Ill go to england.
Ill go to ireland. Well be safer if we
stay apart. Theres daggers in
mens smiles.
A few hours later Ross and Macduff spoke of King Duncans death.
Do we know
any more about
this bloody
deed?
No, but his sons have fled,
which puts suspicion on them.
That makes no sense,
for a son to kill his father
who supported him. Now
Macbeth will become king!
He has
already left for
Scone* to be
crowned king...
Are you
going to
scone
No, Im going to Fife,
Ill go to scone and see
him crowned, farewell.
Adieu, lets hope
things get better.
After being crowned King of Scotland,
Macbeth arranged a great feast for
all his lords.
Macbeth you are everything
the witches predicted king,
Thane of Cawdor, Thane of
Glamis. Yet I fear you played
most foully for it. Maybe what
they said about me will come
true too.
Banquo, tonight we hold a solemn supper, sir.
And you are our chief guest.
Whatever your highness wishes.
I go riding this afternoon with my son Fleance
but will be back in time for the feast.
Until then, God be with you!
Alone in his room, Macbeth worried
about Banquo.
Im not truly safe as king with Banquo
around. The witches called him father to a
line of kings. For them the gracious Duncan
have I murdered? to make the seed of
Banquo kings! I cannot let that happen.
Macbeth called two murderers before him.
I want Banquo and his son Fleance
murdered, but it cannot be known it was
I who ordered it because we are friends.
Thats why I need your help.
We shall, my lord, perform
what you command us.
Ill call for you soon.
Wait inside the castle.
In fury I slayed the
Kings murderers...
I acted without
thinking... My voilent
love outran reason
Alone once again in his chambers Macbeth dwells
on Banquos fate.
Banquo, if
your soul is to make it
to heaven, then it must
do so tonight!
Lady Macbeth came to talk to
her husband.
My lord!
Why do you sit
here alone? Whats
done is done.
It is not yet over. We have
scorched the snake, not killed it.
What are you going
to do?
Dont ask
me now. When it is
done Ill tell you.
That evening, the two murderers waited in
the shadows for Banquo and his son. They
were joined by a third man sent by Macbeth.
I see a light! Tis he, Banquo!
The murderers came out of hiding and attacked quickly.
O treachery!
Fly, good Fleance,
fly, fly, fly!!!
Some day you
can get revenge
O savages!
Who put out the light?
The son has fled!
We have lost half
By failing to kill the
boy,
the mission
Well, lets go and tell
Macbeth what we have
accomplished.
Meanwhile, back at the castle, the feast had begun. All the lords had
gathered before their new king.
Please sit down, a
hearty welcome.
Thanks to your
majesty.
I will walk around and mingle with you all.
The queen will remain in her royal chair
and join us later.
Macbeth saw one of
the killers by the
doorway. He called
him over.
Theres blood
on your face!
Its Banquos.
My lord, his throat
is cut...
You are the best
of cutthroats! And
you did the same
to Fleance?
Most royal sir,
Fleance escaped.
Now Im afraid again.
But Banquos taken
care off?
Yes, my lord.
Dead in a ditch with twenty
gashes on his head!
Thanks for that. The old serpent lies
dead. But the son has fled. Well talk
again tomorrow.
My royal lord, you are not welcoming
your guests. Please give them your
company!
Macbeth raised a glass to toast his guests.
Good appetite
and good health
to you!
Lennox pulled out an empty chair for
Macbeth at the table.
Please you highness,
have a seat.
All the nobility
of Scotland have gathered
here except for Banquo,
who is late.
He has broken his promise.
Please, your highness, grace us
with your royal company?
The tables full.
Heres an empty seat, sir.
Where?!
The ghost of Banquo entered and sat
in Macbeths chair.
Which of
you have done this!!!
What,
my good lord?
You cant say I did it.
Dont shake your gory
locks* at me!
Hearing her husbands screams,Lady
Macbeth came down to the lords table.
Sit, worthy friends.
It is a momentary fit. If you
pay attention to him you
shall offend him.
Then she whispered in Macbeths ear.
Are you a man?
Yes, a bold one that
dares look on something that
would frighten the devil
O nonsense! This is
just like the dagger you saw,
floating in front of you, before you
murdered Duncan.
Shame on you!
Why do you make such faces?
When the vision passes, youll
see it is only a stool!
there! Behold!
Look! Look! If you can
nod, speak too!
The ghost Macbeth saw, then vanished.
Have you totally
lost control?
As I stand here,
I saw him!
Nonsense!
My worthy lord. Your noble
friends miss your company.
I forgot about them.
Dont be alarmed,
my most worthy friends.
I have a strange illness which
is nothing to those that know me.
Come, love and health to all.
Give me some wine.
Lets drink to everyone here, and to
our dear friend Banquo, whom we miss;
Would he were here!
To all and him we drink.
Cheers!!!
the ghost of Banquo was supposed to
look blue and ghostly as in previous
frames but he still looks normal...?
Go! Get out of my sight!
Stay in your grave!
Good peers*,
pay no attention. Im sorry
it spoils our evening tonight...
Away, horrible ghost.
Hallucinations leave
me alone!
The ghost vanished again...
Look its gone! I am a man again.
Please remain seated.
He grows worse and worse. Go at once,
gentlemen. A kind good night to all!
Alone with his wife Macbeth stared at his hands.
Blood will have blood*...
What do you think
about Macduff refusing
to see us?
Did you send
for him, sir?
I have servants paid as
spies except in his household.
I will send for him tomorrow and
go see the witches too.
You should sleep.
Come, well sleep.
We are still beginners when
it comes to murder!
That night, with thunder and lightning in the air, the
three witches met their leader, Hecate
Why, Hecate! You look angry.
Have I not reason? You saucy, hags!
How dare you trade and traffic with Macbeth
without calling on me, the mistress of your charms?!
All you have
done is make a
spiteful and wrathful man
create havoc to please himself.
Get you gone, and meet me at
the pit of Acheron**
in the morning.
There Macbeth will come to know his
destiny. I have a lot to do. Upon the
corner of the moon, there hangs a
vaporous droplet of importance.
Ill catch it before it falls. When
distilled by magic spells it will
trick Macbeth with illusions.
The following morning, Lennox and another lord
sat talking about the fate of Scotland.
Macduff is in disgrace because he failed to come
to the feast last night. Do you know where he is?
He is with King Edward of England, as is Prince
Malcolm. They are treated very well there.
Macduff has gone to ask
Edward for aid of lord
Siward of Northumberlands
men. Macbeth has heard
this news and is so angry
he is preparing
for war.
Did Macbeth ask Macduff to return
to Scotland?
Yes, but Macduff
refused!!!
Some holy angel should
fly to the court of England and
unfold his message that our country
is suffering under a tyrant!
Meanwhile, in a cavern the three witches
prepared potions for Macbeth over a boiling cauldron.
Double, double toil and trouble,
Fire burn, and cauldron
bubble
Well done! And now about
the cauldron sing,
enchanting all that
you put in.
Macbeth entered the cave.
Something wicked comes
this way, open, locks,
whoever knocks.
Whats going on,
you secret, black, and midnight hags?
Tell me what I want to know.
Macbeth!
Beware Macduff.
Beware the thane
of Fife!
No one born from a
woman shall harm
Macbeth
Macbeth shall never die until Great Birnam Wood marches
to Dunsinane Hill to defeat him.
That will never happen.
But my heart longs to know
one thing. Will Banquos sons
ever reign in this
kingdom?
You are just like the ghost of Banquo!
Down! Your crown sears my eyeballs!!! The third
king looks just like the former. Filthy whores! Why do
you show me this? Banquo smiles at me and points
at them Showing me that they are his...
What, is this true?
Yes, its true.
Come sisters, lets cheer him
up with some dance and music
and then be on
our way.
As the witches disappeared, Macbeth shouted for Lennox.
Let this hour be cursed forever in
the calendar. You outside, come in. Yes, your grace?
Did you see the
weird sisters?
No, my lord. But some messengers
bring word that Macduff has
fled to England!
Fled to England?
Yes, my good lord.
I must act quickly from now on. Ill seize
Macduffs castle and raid Fife
His wife, babies and all related
to him shall be murdered.
But no more
visions!
Come, bring me
these messengers.
At Fife castle, alone and afraid, Lady
Macduff and her son confided in Ross.
What has my hushand done,
to flee Scotland?
You must be patient, madam.
You dont know whether it was
wisdom or fear that
made him leave.
Wisdom! To leave his wife,
his babes, his mansion;
leave us here all alone!
Dearest coz, I beg you, pull yourself
together. Your husband is noble and wise.
I have to leave but I will be back soon.
Your fathers dead.
How will you live?
My father is not
dead, no matter
what you say.
Moments later, a messenger arrived
to warn Lady Macduff.
Bless you, fair lady! Danger approaches
you. Take your children and leave
immediately.
Where should I go? I
havent done anything wrong!
As she spoke some murderers
entered the room.
Where is your husband?
Hes a traitor.
Youre lying, you
shaggy-haired villain!
Hearing that, the murderer stabbed
Macduffs son.
You young son
of a traitor!
He has killed me mother,
run away, I beg you!
Away in England, Macduff tries to convince Malcolm to join him in his fight against Macbeth.
How could you leave your wife and child,
the most precious things
in your life behind?
Bleed, bleed,
poor country! Im not
the tyrant you think I am.
Dont be offended, I dont completely distrust you.
But if I were to become king, Scotland would
suffer far greater than under Macbeth.
Not even in hell could you
find a devil worse than Macbeth.
I admit he is blood thirsty, greedy, deceitful,
malicious...but I am a womaniser. All the
wives, daughters and maidens in
Scotland could not satisfy
my needs!
That has caused the fall of many kings, but you
cant let that stop you from taking a crown that
belongs to you. There are plenty of women
willing to dedicate themselves to you.
Also Im very greedy. Id cut off the nobles
from their lands, take their jewels and houses.
This is worse than the lust you speak of, but there is enough
riches in Scotland to satisfy you, from the royal treasures.
All this is outweighed by your other good graces.
But I have none! Justice, truth, stableness, mercy,
devotion, courage. I have no desire for them
instead if I had power, I would pour the
sweet milk of concord* into hell
Fit to be king?! Youre not fit to live!!!
O Scotland, Scotland! Youre hope
ends here!
Macduff, your noble
passion has shown me your
truth and honor. I was testing
your loyalty...
Everything I just
told you are not
in my character!
Im a virgin.
I dont care for possessions,
never broken a promise,
would not betray the devil to his
fellow and delight in truth
as much as life.
I am ready to serve
you and our poor country.
I have already organised
lord Siward with ten
thousand soldiers. Now,
Macduff, well fight
Macbeth together!
Just then Ross joined them in
the gardens.
Gentle cousin,
welcome to England. How
are things in Scotland?
Alas, our poor country!
It cannot be called our
mother, but our grave.
Some comfort then, we
are coming with Siward and ten
thousand of King Edwards soldiers.
I wish I had comforting
news for you macduff...
...but I have words that
should be howld out in
the desert air, where no
one could hear
them.
Your castle was attacked,
your wife and babies savagely
slaughtered.
Hum!
I can guess at it.
Merciful
heaven!
What, man!
My children too?
Wife, children,
servants, all that
could be found.
I shall dispute this like a man,
but I will also feel it as a man.
Oh sinnerman! Let my grief
convert to anger!
Gentle heavens, bring me face to face with
this friend of Scotland and myself, and put
him with reach of my sword!
Back in Scotland, Lady Macbeths lady-in-waiting,
worried about her mistress, called for her doctor.
Ever since his majesty left for war, she rises from
her bed, unlocks her closet, takes out some paper,
writes on it, reads it seals it and then returns to bed,
while asleep the whole time.
That is most
unnatural.
Just then lLady macbeth appeared with a candle.
Yet heres
a spot
They watched Lady Macbeth rub her hands together as if washing them.
Out, damned spot! Out, I say!
What need we fear, when none
can prove our guilt?
Yet who would have thought the
old man to have so much
blood in him.*
You see
her eyes are
open.
Yes,
but they see
nothing.
The thane of Fife had a wife.
Where is she now? What, will
these hands never be clean?
You have heard
something you
should not have.
Heaven
knows what she
has known.
Heres the smell of blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will
not sweeten this little hand. Oh, Oh, Oh!
Wash your hands. Put on your nightgown.
Look not so pale. I tell you yet again,
Banquos buried; he cannot come
out of his grave!
To bed, to bed. Theres knocking at the gate.
Come, come, come. Give me your hand.
Whats done cannot be undone.
To bed, to bed, to bed.
This disease is beyond my practice.
Will she go to bed now?
Yes, good night,
good doctor.
The English power is near, led on by Malcolm,
his uncle Siward and the good Macduff.
Well meet them
as they near Birnam
Wood.
What is the tyrant
Macbeth up to?
He feels the blood of his
murdered enemies sticking on
his hands. His soldiers are
only following his commands,
they no longer feel any
love for him.
Hes fortified his castle at
Dunsinane. Some say hes mad.
Well, march on, and give our loyalty
to someone who deserves it.
Yes, let us water the sovereign flower and
drown the weeds. Come, march towards Birnam!
Macbeth and his lady
isolated themselves in
their castle and years
went by....
But, While they lived of
their infected imaginations,
the nobel men gathered
strength.
Finally, Lennox and other nobelmen gathered their
strongmen and arms to attack and overthrow Macbeth.
Back at Dunsinane castle, Macbeth was seated on his throne,
surrounded by the doctor and some attendants.
I dont care if all
desert me. Till Birnam Wood
moves to Dunsinane I am safe.
Whats the boy Malcolm? Was he
not born of woman?
Fear not Macbeth.
No man thats born of woman
shall ever have power over you.
The spirits have
told me this
A servant entered with news for the king.
There are ten
thousand
Geese,
idiot?
Soldiers, sir.
Bring some colour to your face, you
lily-livered boy. Your pale face will
frighten my men! What soldiers,
pasty-face?
The English army, sir.
Get out of
my sight!
This battle will either secure my
kingdom forever or throw me
off my throne.
Ill fight until my flesh is hacked
off my bones. Give me my armour.
You dont need
it yet, sir.
Ill put it on.
Send out more
cavalry.
How is my wife, doctor?
Not so sick, my lord, but troubled
with visions that stop her from sleeping.
Cure her of that, cant you? Take away
her memory of sorrow. Erase her
troubled thoughts.
Only the
patient can do that.
Well try to cure her doctor.
What drug would rid the
English from this
country?
Your preparations for
war sound good.
I will not be afraid of death
until Birnam forest comes
to Dunsinane.
I wish I were far away
from Dunsinane. No amount of
money would bring me back here.
I must get
ready...
A short while later, the English army, led by Siward, Malcolm
and Mcduff met Lennox, Ross and the other Scottish noblemen.
Cousins, I hope the days are close,
when people will be safe in their
own homes again.
We dont
doubt it.
What wood is this
before us?
The wood
of Birnam.
Let every soldier cut down a branch and
hold it in front of him. That way we can
hide how many of us there are and
confuse Macbeth as to our
real numbers.
It
shall be
done
The confidant tyrant still remains
at Dunsinane castle.
He wants us to lay siege of the castle.
Wherever his soldiers have had an
opportunity to revolt against him they have.
Lets go
fight like industrious
soldiers.
Yes, we are
ready to advance to
Dunsinane!
At Dunsinane castle, Macbeth still thought
he was safe from attack against Malcolm
and the English army.
Hang out our banners on the outward walls.
Our castles strength will laugh off their
siege. They can sit out there until they
die of famine and disease!
Just then there came a sound
from within the castle of
women crying.
What was
that cry for?
The queen, my
lord, is dead.
She would have died soon enough.
Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and
tomorrow, creeps slowly along, day
to day, all the way to
dusty death.
Lifes but a walking shadow. A
poor player on the stage. It is
a tale told by an idiot,
full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing.
A messenger rushed in...
What?
Speak quickly!
As I stood watch upon the
hill, I looked toward Birnam, and I
thought I saw the wood begin to move!
Liar! and slave!
Punish me if it is not true.
You can see it coming three miles
from here, this moving forest.
If youre lying Ill hang you from the nearest tree! If
you speak the truth you can do the same to me!
Macbeth remembered the witches prediction.
Im beginning
to doubt the words the wicked
sisters told me, and their predictions
which I took for truths...
Fear not, till Birnam wood comes to Dinsinane;
and now a wood it comes
toward Dunsinane!
Arm,
arm, and
out!
Ring the
alarm bell!
Blow, wind! Come,
wrack*! At least well die with
harness** on our back.
As Malcolm approached Dunsinane castle, he instructed his men.
We are close enough now. Throw down your branches
and show yourselves. You, Uncle Siward, with your
noble son shall lead the battle.
Good luck.
Macduff, we shall do
the rest according to
our battle plan.
Blow all our trumpets loud.
The harbingers*** of blood and death!!!
Hearing the trumpets Macbeth was forced to lead his small remaining army into battle.
Soon, Macbeth found himself alone, deserted by
his followers in the forest.
I cannot run away.
I must fight the course. Wheres the man who was not
born of woman? Hes the only one I fear, nobody else.
What is your
name?
Youll be
afraid to hear it,
my names Macbeth!
The devil himself couldnt
say a more hateful name...
No! Nor more fearful!
You lie, abhorred* tyrant! Ill prove
youre a liar with my sword.
Swords dont frighten me.
I smile upon weapons used by any
man who was born from a woman.
As the battle progressed, Macduff searched throughout the forest for Macbeth.
Tyrant, show your face!
If you were killed by someone else,
my wife and childrens ghosts will haunt
me forever. Ill either fight you, Macbeth,
or put down my sword unused. Let me
find him, Fortune, I beg of you!
The English army gathered outside Dunsinane
castle gates.
This way, my lord.
The castle is ours
without a fight!
Yes, most of
his troops have
joined us.
Sir,
enter the
castle.
Why should I commit suicide like an ancient
Roman fool! As long as I live, my sword shall
wound others rather than myself.
Just then Macduff came across Macbeth.
Turn, hellhound,
turn!
I have avoided you.
Get back. My soul is
filled with killing your
whole family
already!
My voice is my sword.
You are too evil
for words!
You waste your time trying to fight me.
You may as well stab the air with your sword...
I lead a charmed life,
which cannot be ended
by anyone born from
a woman.
Forget about your charmed life. The doctor cut me*
from my mothers womb before she could
bear me naturally!
Curse you for telling me this,
for now I have lost my courage!
I will not fight you! I wont believe
those evil witches anymore...
Then surrender, coward,
and well put you in a
freak show with a sign
here you may see
the tyrant.
I will not surrender and have
to kiss the ground before
young Malcolms feet! So
lets fight, Macduff, and
damned be him that first
cries,Hold, enough!
Back at Dunsinane castle Malcolm regrouped
with his army.
I wish all my men had
survived the battle.
Judging by the men around us,
our victory didnt cost us much.
Macduff is missing,
and your noble son.
He is dead?
Well then, hes
Gods soldier
now...
Here comes better news.
Macduff approached the castle gates carrying Macbeths head.
Hail, king! Behold, I have
Macbeths cursed head. We are finally
free from his tyranny. Hail,
King of Scotland!
All the thanes of Scotland joined in to pronounce Malcolm as their new King.
My thanes and noblemen,
I thank you all. I name you
all earls, the first earls that Scotland
has ever had. I invite you all to
come watch me be crowned
king of Scotland
at Scone.
Hail Malcolm,
King of Scotland!
Hail, King of
Scotland!
Hail, King of
Scotland!
