Assessment Task 4: Australias Regional and Global Links




Contribution to end of Year mark = 20%

Task details
Nature of task: a written or typed hand-in report based upon the theme Australias Regional and Global
Links
Weighting: 20% of total mark for the year

Student must provide a comprehensive bibliography based on Harvard System, using CiteACE or Cite

Suggested word limit- 1,400 words

Choose ONE of the following options-

EITHER OPTION 1.
a. Describe and analyse the relationship between Australia and a chosen APEC or ASEAN country in
terms Trade and ONE of the following: Aid, Defence or Migration. Length Limit 800-1200
words

b. Analyse one contemporary event occurring in the last 12 months that is relevant to your chosen topic
and discuss the possible impact on the link Australia has with your chosen country. Length Limit
200 words

Also include in your report-
An annotated map indicating the countries referred to in your report (using BOLTSS)
At least one relevant graph that is referred to in your text
At least one relevant table that is referred to in your text
A comprehensive bibliography using the Harvard Method of citation http://www.citethisforme.com/
o Included in you bibliography will be reference to the United Nations (Aid & Migration),
AusAid (Aid), Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) (Trade &
Defence), Dept of Immigration and Boarder Protection (Migration) and at least two relevant
newspaper or journal articles.

a. Describe the development of Australias refugee and asylum seeker policy and evaluate its
effectiveness based on humanitarian and national interest outcomes. Length Limit 800- 1200
words
Include in your report-
A timeline, starting in the year 2000, that outlines Australias significant policy decisions and
their effects on asylum seekers and refugees coming to Australia. (10-12 key dates)
An outline of Australias currents refugee and asylum seeker policy in relation to the current
federal government.
The interaction the Australian Government has with IGOs, NGOs, humanitarian agencies
and/or other countries relating to the issue. Identify and outline the work of at least one key
agency: Refugee Council of Australia, Amnesty International Australia, Refugee Action
Coalition, UNHCR, Australian Human Rights Commission
An evaluation based on criteria regarding the effectiveness of the policies based on
humanitarian and national interest outcomes.

b. Analyse one contemporary event occurring in the last 12 months that is relevant to your chosen topic
