Full-sized pattern pieces 1 to 12 on

page 2. Pattern piece overview, cutting

layout, and illus. a to d on this page.
Size: approx. 20 cm (8").
Materials: 0.20 m (8") light brown
mohair plush fabric, 140 cm (55") wide
(e.g. from Westfalenstoffe); 1 pair
brown plastic eyes to sew on, 10 mm
(
3
8") , and stuffing (KnorrPrandell);
sewing thread and brown embroidery
oss (Coats); scrap of fabric for scarf;
sequin tape (Gtermann creativ); per-
manent fabric marking pen (Prym);
tracing paper.
Cutting: Cut out full-sized pattern
pieces on page 2. Lay pattern pieces
on wrong side of plush fabric as shown
in cutting layout. Use felt-tipped pen
to transfer all outlines and markings to
the wrong side of the fabric. For pieces
which are to be cut as mirror image
pairs, turn pattern piece over before
cutting second piece, see dashed lines
in cutting layout. Note direction of pile
= arrow. After tracing outlines of all
pieces onto fabric, cut out fabric pieces,
adding 5 mm (
3
16") seam allowances.
Cut only backing fabric and do not cut
pile bers.

After cutting out fabric pieces, trim
pile bers to approx. 2 mm (
1
16") on
pieces for muzzle (3), soles of feet (9),
and paws (12).
Sewing: Lay pieces together, right
sides facing, and sew together by
machine (requires some sewing experi-
ence when working with such small
pieces) or by hand, using back stitches
(illus. d). Maintain a seam width of
5 mm (
3
16") throughout.
Ears: For each ear, stitch two pieces 5
together along curve. Turn right side
out. Sew open edges together. Sew
each ear to edge of piece 1 from
seam number (SN) 1, over SN 4 to SN 2.
Clip edges of ears close to seam line at
SN 4 (do not cut through seam!).
Head: Stitch darts in pieces 1 and 4.
Sew piece 2 between pieces 1, match-
ing SN 3 and 4. Sew muzzle 3 to front
of head (1+2+1), matching SN 656.
Stitch pieces 1 together, from SN 7 to 6
and then close muzzle seam. Sew head
front to head back 4, matching SN
898.
Body front: Lay belly pieces 6 together
and stitch center seam (= from SN 7 to
SN 12). Stitch darts in pieces 6. Stitch
each paw piece 12 to arm piece 11,
matching SN 10 and 11. Then stitch
pieces 11 to armhole edges of pieces 6,
matching SN 20 and 19 leaving seam
open over allowances at SN 19.
Body back: Stitch dart in back piece 7.
Stitch piece 7 to seat piece 8, matching
SN 171817. Stitch arm pieces 10 to
both sides of piece 7, matching SN 8
and SN 19 leaving seam open over
allowances at SN 19.
Sewing body front to body back:
Make sure that attachment points
match exactly. Begin at neck edge (=
SN 21) and stitch arm seam to SN 19,
easing fabric edge of piece 10 be-
tween SN 21 and SN 11 and between
SN 11 and 10. Continue, closing side
seam from SN 19 over SN 17 to SN 15.
Sew seams on opposite side of body in
same manner. Sew each leg seam from
SN 12 to 13. Sew soles of feet 9 in
place, all around, matching SN 13 to
16.
Finishing: Turn head and body right
side out. Use back stitches to hand-sew
back of head to back, matching SN
88. Now stuff head and body begin-
ning with arms and legs. Use mattress
stitch (illus. a) to sew neck opening
closed, matching front seams.
Embroider nose with closely spaced
satin stitch, see photo and illus. b and
c. Embroider muzzle with back stitches,
see photo and illus. b and d. Sew eyes
in place as marked by x's on pattern
piece 1.
Sew a triangular scarf from a scrap of
fabric, nished size approx. 17 x 17 x
24 cm (6
3
4" x 6
3
4" x 9
1
2"). Sew sequin
tape to edges. Tie scarf around teddy
bear's neck.
Tip: This teddy bear is not suitable as a
toy for children under 3 years of age
(danger of swallowing small pieces).
