professor at the University of New Mexico. And the topic of this MOOC class is Curanderismo: Traditional Medicine. And this presentation is an introduction to this MOOC class. Again the course will consist of a number of videos on the following topics. Such as medicinal plants or plantas medicinales. Teachers in microdosis or Tintura y microdosis, clay therapy or geotherapy, Intestinal blotch, blockage or Empacho or Ventosas fire cupping, Jugo Terapia or juice therapy, shawl alignment or Manteadas. The Temazcal or healing through the sweat lodge, Limpias energeticas or energetic cleansing, Risa terapia or laugh therapy and finally, interviews with a number of Curanderos. The course will actually begin with a welcome by me a TedX ABQ short video on my concept of merging traditional medicine with modern allopathic medicine. And, a second video on a two week Curanderismo class that is held on the University of New Mexico campus in the month of July. The fourth, the first module will consist of an Introduction to Curanderismo by my colleague, Dr. Arnul, Artuto Ornelas, and myself. I will be joined by Dr. Ornelas, the executive director of a holistic institute called CEDEHC [FOREIGN] where a number of Curanderos or trained in holistic medicine and we actually will discuss the history and the collaboration between Mexico and the United States in the area of Curanderismo. The next module will deal with medicinal plants of the Southwest. And this is taught by my friend and colleague, Dr. Tomas Enos, a well-known herbalist from Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is the president and owner of a Milagro Herbs. And is well known as an ethnobotanist teacher and natural products formulator. He has done an apprenticeship also in Oaxaca, Mexico and he will give a demonstration of medicinal plants of the southwest. The other module that you will be able to view will deal with sacred tobacco healing of Peru and New Mexico Herbology and is presented by a couple of presenters. The first one is Ashaninka Mino who is a healer and an ambassador for the indigenous Ashaninka Tribe in the central jungle of Peru. And the second presenter is Bernadette Torres an herbalist and a teacher who grew up with tradition of healing and plants in northern New Mexico. Mino will be demonstrating the usage of tobacco in healing practices and Bernadette will be discussing medicinal plants for women. And then we will have a video and a module by Tonita Gonzalez and she will discuss Tintura y Microdosis which are tinctures in microdosis. And Tonita is from New Mexico, but did an apprenticeship in Mexico City and in Cuernavaca with Rita Navarette. She, or Tonita, has discussed a number of topics and will be discussing these topics in these modules and she has a clinic in the northern part of Albuquerque as well as a Mexican sweat lodge or Temazcal. Tonita will explain how to prepare tinctures and microdosis using fresh plants. And then Tonita will continue with another session on geotherapy or clay therapy we have already introduced Tonita but she will be demonstrating the heating properties of clay and the practices of geo therapy. And then we will have a module on Empacho or intestinal blockage by Albertana Sanchez Flores known as Tana. Tana is a, an instructor at CEDEHC or this holistic center in Mexico in Cuernavaca, Mexico. And she will demonstrate the techniques used for intestinal blockage or empacho, which is called dried empacho or wet empacho. And then Rita Navaretter-Perez, we call her Rita, she is a Curandera also an instructor in the holistic institute CEDEHC. And she has been practicing traditional medicine for more than 30 years, and she will be discussing and demonstrating the use of ventosas or fire cupping. Rita is from Mexico City and she does an excellent job of the use of ventosas or fire cupping. After Rita, we have Tonita and also, Rita returns with another module on jugo terapia, or juice therapy. Tonita and Rita will be demonstrating how you can juice different plants and different fruits for the benefit of our body. And then Rita and Tonita continue demonstrating what we call manteadas or shawl alignment. This is the art that has been revived and it's been quite popular in Mexico. It was lost for a time. But you will enjoy seeing how they can align the body with a cloth called manteadas. And then we go into a Temezcal or a Mexican sweat lodge for an interesting and exciting demonstration by Rita Navarrete, who is considered also a Temazcalera. Some, some person who, who is an expert and leads Mexican sweat lodges, and Rita will demonstrate the rituals and benefits of the Mexican sweat lodge called Temazcal. And this sweat lodge is located in the North valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico. [NOISE] In here we have Laurencio Nunez, Laurencio Nunez is a well known Curandero from Oaxaca, Mexico. He's also a botanist. He will be using a number elements to demonstrate a limpia, or a spiritual cleansing. The elements that Laurencio will be using are herbs, a candle, an egg, a mescal drink, and incense for this exciting and amazing energetic cleansing on me. And then, Rita will return with another module called risa terapia, or laugh therapy. She will show how we can heal ourselves by laughing and producing endorphins. Or the body's natural pain killer and how we can suppress epinephrine, the stress hormone, and she will demonstrate other benefits of laugh therapy, which is not uncommon by a lot of Curanderos. That practice curanderismo or traditional medicine. We will end the modules with an inter, with several interviews by well known Curanderos, local Curanderos, and many Curanderos from Mexico who will share their views on traditional curanderismo. As well as their experiences with the practice. We hope that you will enjoy these modules, which will give you an overview of the topic of curanderismo or traditional medicine, that seems to be making a revival, not only in New Mexico but also in Mexico, the United States and around the world.
