Surah al Fatiha - Reflections - Basmallah
Surah al Fatiha - Reflections

In these coming posts, we will share some reflections on surah al Faatiha
because it is the most read surah by all Muslims.

We'll break it down word by word and post our thoughts on it in relation to
the linguistic meanings of the words.

Bi = With (its commonly used in Arabic for Help too.) 'With the help of..'

Allah = some linguists say it comes from the word Aliha, which is the
description of a child running to his mother for milk. So Allah is the One who
everyone turns to in desperation (like the child was desperate), and also in
extreme emotion of hope, love and even fear (because children have all these
feelings for their mother).

al Rahmaan = the Abundantly Merciful. Considering that the mother is hinted
prior to this in my explanation, the word Rahm (which also means 'womb of the
mother') is useful in this context. Allah is more Merciful to us than our own
mother, and He is Allah - the one who we desperately turn to for help. He is
the One who nourishes us (while we are in the wombs and also when we are
desperate outside the wombs). We are so dependant upon Allah in every aspect
like a child is dependant upon his mother in every aspect and every emotion.

al-Raheem - the constantly Merciful.
He is constantly Merciful to us just like our mothers are, even though we might
do bad things sometimes. So long as we give our mothers attention and turn
back to them, they will forgive us. Allah will always forgive us, so long as we
turn back to Him in asking for forgiveness. The mother wants to forgive, but
she will only do it if you turn to her, otherwise she will ignore you until you
return to her. Similarly, Allah will only forgive if you ask to be forgiven.

Description of Paradise part 2 (surah
Naba' 78: 31-34)

No doubt, for the Muttaqeen (meaning: Guarders
[against Allah's anger, evil.]) is the place of success
(Paradise).

Gardens, and grapevines.

And full-breasted [wives] of equal age (atraab).

Kawaa'ib is the plural of Ka'b.

( ) Kaaf-Ayn-Ba = swell/prominent/protuberant/projection/budding (common
examples include a woman's breasts.)

Ka'b is also used to describe the ankle, because the ankle 'pops out' (protrudes out),
and this is the root meaning of Ka'b. So the women of Paradise are described as those
whose chest area protrudes out, so Allah is telling us these women are extremely
beautiful in a graphical way.

Kawaa'ib is the plural of Ka'b, which means each man will have lots of wives and not
just one. (the last person to enter Paradise will have 2 wives according to the ahadeeth).

Atraaba = of the same age. So these women are the same age as you, they like what you
like and aren't immature or too old. They're just perfect.

Also see:
Thus. And We will ZAWWAJ [marry] them (the believers) to fair women with
large, [beautiful] eyes. (Dukhan 44:54)

And a full glass (of exotic drinks)

Ka`s nowadays means a cup or glass, but in classical Arabic ka`s was only used
when the glass was full of wine, or some expensive drink. So these glasses will be full
to the top (dihaaqa) of expensive and exotic drinks. The color of the drinks will be
exotic, and it will also be splashing.

(Surah Naba' 78: 31-34 continue reading...)

Ya Allah, make us the people of your Jannah (Gardens of Paradise), ameen ya Rabb!

And the companions of the Fire will call
to the companions of Paradise, "Pour
(aFeeDoo) upon us some water or from
whatever Allah has provided you. (al
A'raf 7:50)

AfaaD : Something that starts flowing with ease.

e.g.water starts flowing from somewhere. AfaaD as-sail meaning
water in abundance. Water starts to flow from the sides of the valley.

FaaDat Aainah means tears started rolling ones eyes.

AfaaDa Innah means to make water flow from somewhere.

For example, somebody kept on filling a cup with so much water
that it started to drop from it. So it actually means overflow.

In the Quran: (al A'raf 7:50)

And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise,
"Pour (aFeeDoo) upon us some water or from whatever Allah has
provided you.

So we see in this ayah a few things just through one word - aFeeDoo:

The people of Hellfire are asking the people in Paradise to throw some water
down onto them, in the English translation it says 'Pour some water onto us',
but in Arabic it means more than that - it shows this picture instead:

The People of Paradise are pouring in drink for
themselves, and their drinks are overflowing from
their cups, the people in Hellfire are so desperate,
they're begging the people of Paradise to just throw
one drop of water down onto them. They're not
even begging them to intentionally throw it - they're
simply saying 'pour some water in your cups, and
the water which overflows out of your cup can fall
onto us.'

They (the people of Paradise) will say, "Indeed,
Allah has forbidden them both to the disbelievers."

By the Day as it gradually exposes her
(the Suns) beauty (Quran (The Sun)
91:3)

Surah Ash-Shams (The Sun): 91:3)

By the Day as it gradually exposes her (the Suns)
beauty

(Quran (The Sun) 91:3)

JALWAH (

) refers to when a woman dresses up

and presents herself to the husband.

The word ISTAJLA (

) means when a bride

adorns herself and reveals to her husband.

AL AJLA () means bright, (as in) someone with
a bright and lovely face.

TAJJALA (

) means manifestation of something

bright and pleasing.

Allah uses amazing words to describe the world
around us;

''The day which gradually (idhaa) reveals the Sun's
beauty.."

1 - The Sun (Shams) is a feminine word in Arabic, so
it is being compared to a woman.

2 - The Sun has a beautiful face which is 'bright',
'lovely' and 'pleasing', and when you look at it you feel
warm and happy inside.

3 - It's like the Day is a piece of cloth which a
beautiful woman wears, and the cloth is gradually
removed from the face of the beautiful woman (the
Sun) to expose her beauty to the world. She
impresses the world, just like the beautiful woman
amazes her husband.

By the Day as it gradually exposes her (the Suns)
beauty

A starter meal, an appetiser = Nuzula
(Surah al Kahf 18:102 & 107)
We are told in the authentic ahadeeth to memorise either the first 10 or the
last 10 aayaat of Surah al Kahf so that when the Dajjal arrives, we are
protected from his temptations.

The First 10 aayaat of surah al Kahf:
Are about the young men followed the teachings of Jesus, who fled the
temptations of their city and went into the Kahf (Cave) so they wouldn't be
forced into idol worship by their kings.

This is a lesson for the believers that we are approaching a time when we will
also have to flee the temptations of the city, otherwise we will have to become
slaves to Dajjal and the world we are living in now is gradually approaching
such a time (where all practising Muslims globally are being targeted).

The Last 10 aayaat of surah al Kahf:
Talk about the disbelievers trying to force the believers into leaving their
religion and becoming supporters of disbelief.

Allah then tells us that the believers who stay firm on Imaan during these
difficult times (Dajjal times) will be the people of Jannah al Firdaws (ayah 107
of surah al Kahf). Why? Because the Dajjal is the biggest fitnah (temptation)
from the time of Adam uptill Judgment Day.

Jannah = Garden
Firdaws = a garden which grows all sorts of fruits, fruits of every type. Its
the richest type of garden.

One of the biggest things Dajjal and society nowadays wants is for Muslims to
become disbelievers and join his side.

So Allah tells us:

Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of
Me as friends/allies? Indeed, We have prepared Jahannam (Torture chamber of
Hell) for the disbelievers as a Nuzula (a starter meal, appetiser.) (al Kahf
18:102)

Sarcasm is used here to imply that these guests (the disbelievers) will be
treated to an initial treat/appetiser/starter meal of hellfire.

On the other hand:

Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the
Gardens of Paradise as a Nuzula (a starter meal, appetiser). (al Kahf 18:107)

Nuzula When you go to someones house and before they give you the meal they
give you some appetisers/snacks. The initial hospitality and when you receive it you
are anticipating better to come.

There is a famous Hadith in which the Prophet (salallahu 3alayhi wasalam)
praised people in the last generation where one of them would equate to 10 or
50 of the Sahaba in reward.

The Sahaba thought that he was mistaken and meant that one Sahaba would be
equal to ten people from the last generation. He corrected them and told them
that those who come after them will believe in him without having seen him.

Some scholars have commented that these people will be living in the time of
the Dajjal and at a time when the world has been beautified for them and they
will still choose allegiance to the Prophet (salallahu 3alayhi wasalam) and his
cause over worldly temptations. They will be given the highest
ranking Jannah al Firdaws, only as a starter
meal! Meaning their reward is even beyond that!
May Allah make us of them, ameen ya Rabb!

Don't let shaytan tempt you.. pulling their
clothes off! (al A'raf 7:27)

O children of Adam! Don't let shaytaan tempt you
like he took your parents (Adam & Eve) out from
Paradise, pulling from them both their clothes
(libaas) so their ugliness/private parts (saw`) could
be seen.

No doubt he (shaytaan) sees you, and his Qabeelah
(his tribe) from where you are not seeing them.

Surely We have made the Shayaateen (devils) friends
of those who don't believe.

(Quran surah al A'raf 7:27)

We see extremely powerful imagery in this ayah:

1 - Allah is telling us children of Adam that don't let shaytaan put you into a
Fitnah (a trial, a temptation) like he put your parents before in a temptation.
What's being hinted is, don't throw yourself in a situation where you might be
alone with a sin, and shaytaan can easily use your desires against you.

What sinful temptation though?

The temptation where shaytaan will pull your clothes off you.

..pulling from them both their clothes (libaas) so
their ugliness/private parts (saw`) could be seen.

Naz` = to pull something (off) quickly and violently.

When a male and female are alone, shaytaan - through their desires - will
tempt them to pull their clothes off, and their private parts will be exposed.
The word Saw` also hints at the ugliness of the private parts and even the
evilness of this sin of being naked in public.

When Adam and Eve were in Paradise, they wore nice clothing. When they
sinned, their clothes were removed from them and they had to wear leaves
instead. Shaytaan laughed at this humiliation they felt because then they had
to leave Paradise and go to the Earth.

Like Adam and Eve, shaytaan wants us children of Adam not to go Paradise -
so he will try to tempt us to pull our clothes off us too, since that is the best
way to fall into more haraam, and more haraam = distance from Paradise.

(i.e. Removing clothes leads to sins like; Adultery, people staring at you more
and not lowering their gaze, familys breaking apart because of a lack of
modesty, men killing each other for a woman who isn't dressed modestly etc.
All these are sins because of removing clothes.)

Islamically, the more a person wears - the more respect they have (this is
why it was waajib/compulsory) on the wives of Allah's Messenger (sal Allahu
alayhi wasalam) to wear niqaab. The more a believing woman wears of modest
clothes - the more respectful she is in the sight of Allah and the believers.

It is only nowadays because of satanic media that women are being influenced
to take off their clothes.

No doubt he (shaytaan) sees you, and his Qabeelah
(his tribe) from where you are not seeing them.

When women take off their clothes and walk in the streets, the Jinn are more
likely to enter into her and possess her. This is a known fact in many Jinn
exorcisms when a Jinn stays in a woman and says 'I love her', its because she
often wasn't Islamic and close to Allah, and possibly because she wasn't covered
properly in her dress.

Also if you do take your clothes off in public - shaytaan will laugh at you like he laughed
at your parents because he knows that you are sinful and therefore less likely to enter
Paradise (unless you repent and change your ways to good).

Surely We have made the Shayaateen (devils)
friends of those who don't believe.

It is only nowadays because of satanic media (owned by human devils/shayaateen) that
women are being influenced to take off their clothes. And similarly men are being
influenced by the devils to remove their clothes to do evil acts with these women.

The devils are friends of those who don't believe - so they make the evil things
attractive to them.

O children of Adam! Don't let shaytaan tempt you
like he took your parents (Adam & Eve) out from
Paradise, pulling from them both their clothes
(libaas) so their ugliness/private parts (saw`) could
be seen.

No doubt he (shaytaan) sees you, and his Qabeelah (his tribe) from where you
are not seeing them.

Surely We have made the Shayaateen (devils) friends of those who don't
believe.

Scientific Quran Miracle: We created
man from a Nutfah... (Surah Dahr/Insaan
76:2)

Surely we created man from a Nutfah... (Surah Dahr/Insaan 76:2)

What does the word Nutfah mean?

Nutfah means: [ ] - a Singular entity, which is a Part of a bigger group
of its kind.

The Nutfah can refer to a single Sperm from a collection of millions of sperms.
(one teaspoon of semen has millions of sperms in it.)

Singular: Nutfah | Plural: Nutaf.

The word Nutfah can also apply to a bucket of water which is spilled out, and
the smallest amount which remains is the last 'drop of liquid and dribble' of
water which comes out of the bucket. When a bucket of water is emptied, and
the last drops dribble out.

So nutfah also has an implication of dripping water (i.e. dribbling.)
I.e. In this ayahs context, the semen Dribbles.out.

Summary:

Surely we created man from a Nutfah...
(Surah Dahr/Insaan 76:2)
Nutfah = a Single sperm from millions of other sperms which were
Dribbled/dripped out by the male in his semen (i.e. in Ejaculation.)

Allah is telling us this to put us in our place - that the human should not be so
arrogant against Allah, why? Because every persons origin was of being a
small sperm of dribbled liquid, that's all, nothing more than this.

Then every person was born from a lowly place (where a woman goes to the
bathroom from).

This should make humans realise they should not be arrogant, Allah has only
given you a high position in the world so you serve Him properly. Otherwise He
can humiliate you again whenever He wants.

(the People of Paradise say): "Indeed, we
were previously among our people fearful
(muShfiqeen.) (al Tur 52:26)

They (the people of Paradise) will say,

"Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful
(muShfiqeen.)

(Quran surah al Tur 52:26)

If you look at the aayaat surrounding this ayah, Allah is describing the people of Jannah
(Paradise) while they are talking to each other. This ayah is one of the things they will
say to each other, may Allah make us of them, ameen.

"Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful
(muShfiqeen.)

muShfiq - Shafqah = to be Anxious, nervous, wishful. Its even used to describe a love
relationship, where you really wish your lover will accept you, but you've done
something wrong so you don't know if they'll accept you or not.

When you're worried like that, you have a mix of hope (of wanting to be accepted by
your loved one), and fear (of being rejected by them.)

If you have these feelings and you beg Allah for protection when you remember Allah,
Judgment Day, Paradise and Hellfire - then this is a sign of being a true believer. This is a
description of the people of Paradise.

They will be shown each other (on

Surah Ma'aarij 70 - Ayah 11:

They will be shown each other (on Judgment Day).
The criminal will wish if only he could be
ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his
children.

yaWaddu he will intensely love/desire..
Wudd intense love / desire from the depth of your heart.

The Mujrim [convicted Criminal] on Judgment Day will wish/desire..

Mujrim a Criminal who has been proven to have been guilty = a Convicted
Criminal.
Allah did not say that it was a disbeliever, rather even sinful Muslims could be
Mujrim/criminal on that Day. We ask Allah for protection from that.

Law If only

yaFtadee Fida = to give something in exchange to save yourself (Ransom.)

Min from

adhaabi punishment

Yawma idhin especially on that Day

Bi banee-hi = with his children

So this person who would lookafter his children and take care of them in this
world, and would not want them to get hurt in any way, and when they got
older he would call them for support and help, on this Day he is willing to
throw them in Hellfire so that he does not enter it.

Ayah 12:

And his female companion he was
always with, and his brother...

wa Saahibati-hee and his Female Companion

The one who he spent his life with, who he loved and was the closest to. The
one who he protected and kept close to himself.

Saahib = someone who you are with all the time (thats why the companions of
Prophet Muhammad, sal Allahu alayhi wasalam) are called Sahaabah.

a Saahibah = a female woman you are with all the time.

Other words for wife/woman;
Zawjah = wife
Marah = woman

Allah out of these words used the word Saahibah = female companion.
Which emphasises that the man loved this woman companion, he was
always with her (Suhbah = close companionship).

It was this woman who the guy would say 'I will even sacrifice myself to
make you happy.'

On this stressful Day, he is willing to throw her in a fire only so he can save
himself.

This is the desperation of that Day, may Allah protect us on Judgment Day
ameen ya Rabb!

wa akhee-hi = and his brother

The brother who he helped, or called for support in the worldly life. He is even
willing to throw away his source of protection in the world into the fire.

May Allah not make us of the criminals on the Day we meet Him, ameen ya
Allah...

It was not but one scream/shout
(SayHah), and immediately they were
extinguished/glowing embers
(Khaamidoon). (Surah Yasin 36:29)

It was not but one scream/shout (SayHah),
and immediately they were extinguished
(Khaamidoon).

(Surah Yasin 36:29)

SayHah = a scream which is extremely loud, i.e. of a bird,
or a woman who is about to give birth, or any piercing
scream which hurts the ears because of its loudness.

This scream could have come from either the Angels, or a violent sound which Allah sent
as a punishment, or it might have even come from the disbelievers who saw the
punishment arriving at them. It was only one scream, so they all screamed together out of
fear - but it was too late now to believe... they were destroyed.

Khamada =
the dying of fire whose flames goes off but ember
(the orange glow) remains.

So this shows us quite a few images:

1 - The corrupt nation had been alive and enflamed in their
passions and desires and sins, then suddenly Allah's
punishment screams, destroying them and their enflamed
passions are now silent, dead, and all that remained of their
passions was its final glows of ember before their bodies
decayed and rotted away.

2 - The corrupt nation was destroyed by Allah extremely
violently, and the punishment was so powerful.. after their
destruction, the fire of the punishment cooled down, and
their dead remains were left. Like when something has
been burnt and destroyed entirely, and only the orange
glow of the fire is left to cool away.

So next time you see something burnt, and only embers
of orange glow left, remember the destroyed nations.

So when Our command came.. [Hud
11:82-83]

Nouman Ali Khan video - Watch: 4mins onwards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCysR2YyxIs

[Surah Hud 11: 82-83]

Allah decided to destroy the nation of Lut [Lot] because of their evil, and
opposition against His Messenger.

When Our decision came, We made the highest part (of their tall buildings)
the lowest part. [Hud 11:82]

So at the time Allah prepared to destroy them - they now had nowhere to hide.

In an Earthquake, you find somewhere to hide, but they never had any place to
hide. You're also supposed to lie down on the floor;

Then We started raining upon them stones from the sky, manDuwd (a full
bucketful excessively thrown time after time, repeatedly).

Ayah 11:83:

Musawwamatun - Marked; specifically, intensively, repeatedly - (with every
person who is being targeted's name marked upon it.

Like a sniper fire, targeting the individual people who have nowhere to hide.

What a horrible destruction! What a horrible ending.. a disastrous punishment
to end this life for each individual enemy specifically, and a humiliating arrival
to their next life. This is what Allah did with them evildoers.

'and they are not far from those who do wrong'

Allah is warning all of us listeners, especially those who first heard it (the
Quraysh polytheists) that Allah's snipers are not far away from the
wrongdoers...

Baheej = something which becomes extremely
beautiful, bright and pleasing to the eye. It is
something which makes you smile, laugh, and be
joyful.

It refers to plants which are beautiful, but it is also
used to describe a smile and beauty on someones
face.

Surely you will Ride (i.e. an animal) step
from step... (al Inshiqaq 84:19)

No doubt, you will surely experience state
(tabaqan) after state (tabaq).

(surah al Inshiqaq 84:19)

La = No doubt
taRkabanna = you will surely Ride (i.e. an animal)
Tabaqan = step
`an = from
Tabaq = step

This ayah portrays such powerful imagery, that its as if we're traveling on a
riding animal in life, and we'll keep moving forward step by step in different
stages, seeing different things in life. But no matter how much we ride, we will
face difficulties on the way (all humans will).

There will be some people who will simply ride without knowing which direction
they're going in, while others will be aiming to reach Allah Himself, so they will keep
traveling on the main wide straight road (Siraat). They will try not to get distracted by
the things around them, while everyone else on the journey has gone on the wrong
path into the darkness, and the further they go - the harder it is for them to return
back to the main road (Siraat) of guidance.

Journeys are difficult to travel alone, but its better to be alone than going with
friends on the wrong way.

And establish weight in justice and do not
lose the balance. (Surah ar-Rahman 55:
7-9)

Surah ar-Rahman 55: Ayah 7&Ayah 8 & Ayah 9:

was-samaa'a rafa'ahaa wawaDa'a-'l meezaan. al-Laa taTghaw fi-'l meezaan. wa
aqeemu-'l wazna bi-'l QisTi wa Laa tuKhsiru-'l Meezaan

And the heaven/sky He raised and placed the
balance. That you not transgress within the balance.

And establish weight in justice and do not lose the
balance.

Allah set a balance of Justice in the Sky and Earth. He commands us not to
break this balance, not to lose (tuKhsir) it.

Allah is telling us that there is a balance in the sky and earth, and we should look
to that and not break the limits of Allah.

Just look at the blue Sky and the worldly Earth around us - that is in of itself
working in harmony with each other in precision, order and obedience

There are so many seemingly different things taking place at similar times in the
Sky; (different stars, planets, days and nights etc), and on the Earth; different
plants, insects and animals (animals only hunt each other for food [in a balanced
food chain] but don't do mass murder for no reason.)

Yet when we see oppression on Earth, we see it is only due to disobedient
humans wronging each other - that is why there is corruption, harm and evil in
this world.

So when people say; why does God allow evil, then no - the entire Sky and
Earth are obedient to Allah - at peace with each other even though there are
so much differences within them. So why can't humans get along in
obedience to God/Allah and work together in their differences for a greater good,
just like the Sky and Earth work together to sustain life for millions of years?

If we humans followed the example of the sun, moon, stars etc. - by being
obedient slaves of Allah - their would also be harmony on this Earth, just like
it is in the skies. However, us humans have to be sincere to the Abundantly
Merciful (ar-Rahman), be students of His Merciful Qur'an, and follow the way of
His Merciful Messenger, Muhammad (sal Allah alayhi wasalam.)

gods) and believes in Allah, then he has tried to
grasp (istamsaka) the most trustworthy handhold
(`
urwatu al wuthqaa) that will never (laa) break
(inFiSaam). And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

(Quran al Baqarah 2:256)

Rushd = going back to the right path after being on
the wrong path before.
Similar word: Huda = general word used for Guidance.

taaghoot - taghiy - someone who rebels and goes
past the limit which has not been set for it.
Someone who makes himself as false god besides
Allah.
(we explained in this post what Taghaa means graphically.)

ista-Msaka - mask = to Try to hold/grasp onto
something.

`urwah = a handle you hold onto, something firm,
which is a Support.

wuthqaa = something which is solid, something
you can trust. (imagine you're about to fall off a high building, and
someone who is strong takes their hand out to pull you up to save you - that is
the description of wuthqaa - a strong and trustworthy hand).

Laa = No

inFiSaam (passive voice of) - FaSama = to break
something so it won't disintegrate/break apart
fully, but stays together instead.
inFisaam = that which is broken but not scattered.
Example:
a crack in a mirror, or a crack in a metal object etc.

So there will be NO inFiSaam (crack).

Summarised Ayah Meaning:

Whoever disbelieves in false gods and believes in
Allah, then he has already (qad) tried to hold onto
the Firm support (`urwah - the hand of Islam)
which is wuthqaa (firm, strong and trustworthy),
and has NO crack in it (not even the smallest
crack/break).

So Allah is telling us that TRYING to be friends with
Allah is the MOST powerful and strong hand you can
hold onto, it doesn't even have the smallest crack in
it (because small cracks can gradually break
something) - so this relationship is STRONG and
Trustworthy.

Just try to be friends with Allah, learn more about Him, and
He will make you the most secure person in the
world.

To abide therein... (al-Nisaa 4: 13-14) -
khaalidan vs khaalideen
To abide therein... (al-Nisaa 4: 13-14)

Asalaam alaikum warahmatulah wabarakatuh.

Allah taala says in Surat al-Nisaa 4: 13-14, in two seemingly balanced ayaat:

Those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to Gardens
with rivers flowing beneath, to abide therein (for ever) (khaalideen) and
that will be the supreme achievement.

But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits
will be admitted to a Fire, to abide therein (khaalidan): And they shall
have a humiliating punishment. (al Nisaa 4:13-14)
Do you notice anything different from ayah 13 and ayah 14?

When Allah taala describes the one who obeys Allah taala and His messenger
(alayhi salaatu wa salaam): he will be admitted into Gardens with rivers
flowing beneath,

, (they) are abiding eternally therein.

When Allah taala describes the one who disobeys Allah taala and His
messenger alayhi salaatu wa salaam, and transgresses His limits: he will be
entered into the fire,

, one (singular) abiding eternally therein.

Although the ayah is in the singular (he obeys/he disobeys), not plural, Allah
taala uses the plural ( khaalideena) for the companion of Jannah/Paradise,
while keeping the singular (khaalidan) for companion of the fire.

The translation does not capture this intricate detail. The one who reaches
Jannah/Paradise will have passed the grave, the day of Judgment, the Siraat,
the Qantarah all by themselves (with the Mercy of Allah), but when they reach
Jannah, they will be with their families, their spouses, their children, their
friends in the dunya, the righteous of the past and after them, with the angels
greeting them from all doorstogether, celebrating the praises of Allah and
enjoying the delights of Jannah,

.

The one who enters the hell-fire will have gone through the trials of the aakhirah [next
life] alone, and they will be left to themselves in punishment, with their regrets and
despair.

We read many times in the Quran that the people of hell fire will have no one to
help (naseer) nor any close friend (wali) to their aid, nor anyone to hear their
cries and calls. They will be alone in their punishment,

.

Even in this dunya, we see the psychological effects of solitude. What is the
worst punishment one can receive in prison? Solitary confinement. Indeed, one
is the loneliest number.

May Allah taala envelop us in His mercy, and make
us among those who will be rejoicing in the company
of the Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam and with
our families and friends in Jannatul Firdaws
(khaalideen), and not alone (khaalidan) in the
solitary confinement of Hell, Ameen ya Rabb!

So do not weaken (ta-hin-uw) and do not
grieve (ta-Hzan-uw), and you will be
superior if you are [true] believers.
(3:139)

So do not weaken (ta-hin-uw) and do not grieve (ta-
Hzan-uw), and you will be superior if you are [true]
believers.

(surah aal Imran 3:139)

This ayah was revealed after the battle of Uhud when the
Muslims had faced alot of harm.

ta-hin-uw - wahn = weakness after being originally strong.

In surah Maryam 19:4 - Prophet Zakariyya says to Allah that his bones have become
weak (wahn) because of old age [after originally being strong].

ta-Hzan-uw - Hazn = which is commonly translated as
Sadness after difficult times really comes from the root
meaning of: Rough high land.

So Hazn can be a sadness which makes life extremely difficult, as if you are climbing a
rough high - going up a difficult mountain.

So Allah is telling the believers after they have lost in
Battle - that DO NOT become weak (and that Muslims
should always be the stronger ones because of their belief
in Allah's Power), and that they shouldn't feel like they are
climbing a high rough mountain.

And you will be the higher (A`law) ones if you are truly
believers.

So believers will only get their strength once again (since
they are originally meant to be Strong in the sight of Allah)
- when they turn back to the guidance and become
believers.

Hadith:

The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wasalam) said: The People will soon summon one
another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their food. Someone
asked, Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?

He replied, No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be froth and scum like
that carried down by a torrent (of water), and Allah will take the fear of you from the
breasts (hearts) of your enemy and cast al-wahn into your hearts. Someone asked, O
Messenger of Allah, what is al-wahn? He replied, Love of the world and dislike of
death.
[An authentic hadith recorded by Abu Dawud and Ahmad]

Explanation of Hadeeth

Alhamdulillah alot of Muslims are turning back to their religion now, and Allah is
removing the wahn from their hearts and giving them strength. Why? Because they are
turning back to Imaan (Belief).

Allah's Name: al-Fattaah - the Opener

al-Fattaah

al-Fattaah - the giver of Victory.
this is the most common translation of Allah's name al
Fattaah.

But al Fattaah comes from the word Fat-h.
Fat-h = an Opening, a way out.

So imagine you are stuck somewhere, and you want to get
out. Then call out:

"Ya Fattaah! please give me a way out from this difficulty"

Then al Fattaah will make an Opening (Fat-h) and a way
out for you from this difficulty.

Thus. And We will marry them to Hoor al
Ayn - fair women with large, [beautiful]
eyes. (Quran Dukhan 44:54)
Quran Arabic Gem: Thus. And We will ZAWWAJ [marry] them (the
believers) to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.

Thus. And We will marry them (the believers) to fair
women with large, [beautiful] eyes.

(Surah Dukhan 44:45)

The word 'Zawwaj' does not just mean 'marry'. The
Arabic signifies a deeper meaning. 'Zawwaj' comes
on the Arabic Verb Pattern [LM] of 'Fa33al' [Repeated
doing (which can be seen by the repetiton of the 2nd
letter].

In other words, Allah is hinting to us that; 'We will
Marry them 'REPEATEDLY' to fair women with large
beautiful eyes.'

What does the Hoor al Ayn mean?

And Hoorun 'Ayn

(Quran Surah al Waqi'ah 56:22)

Ayn - used for beautiful and good things:

- A Water spring gushing out with water is beautiful
and is called 'Ayn' (especially for the Arab who
cherishes water and lives in the dry desert.)

- The eye - sheds a tear (moist).

- Anything that looks good - the arab would call it
Ayn.

- The arabs would call beautiful horses - ayn in their
poetry.

- Even al hoor ul 'Ayn [the women of Paradise] are
called that because they are beautiful.

The word 'ayn usually has a very positive meaning
of that which is 'extremely pleasing to the eye'.

The word Huwr/Hoor ( ) - means: to Return, go
back.

So it is possible, and Allah knows best - that they
are called Hoor al Ayn - because the Eye/s (Ayn)
keep Returning back to look at them, because they
are so beautiful.

And Allah knows best.

Shaytaan has an army - even before he
never prostrated to Adam. (al A'raf 7:
We read here that shaytaan/iblees was jealous of Adam, but in this ayah we'll
realise that he wasn't the only one.

[ Allah ] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded
you?" [Satan] said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and
created him from clay."

Shaytaan was jealous because Adam was mud, a smelly mud (Teen is a mud
which smells).

[ Allah ] said, "Descend from Paradise, for it is not for you to be arrogant
therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased.

This is one of the amazing aspects of Allahs guidance - if you be arrogant,
Allah lowers you as you become more arrogant. The more you humble yourself
to Allah and the believers - the more Allah raises your honour and respect.

He (shaytaan) said give me time (i.e wait for me,
dont punish me right away) until the day they are
going to be raised

[ Allah ] said, "Indeed, you are from
(min) of those reprieved."

innaka munzharoon, but inna-ka (Surely you) min (from) al (the) munzhareen
(reprieved). So iblees/shaytaan has a following who followed shaytaan from
the beginning.

Its this army of Jinn that he uses to cause corruption amongst mankind, and the
evil sinners who turn to the Jinn for help themselves have to become human
devils. This is why you see so much magic (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings)
promoted on modern media, in an attempt to make children turn to this type
of lifestyle.

[Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error
(Ghawaa), I will no doubt surely sit (aQ`ud) in wait
for them on Your straight/upright path.

(Quran al A'raf 7: 12-17)

Ghawaa has already been explained in this post.

aQ`ud = to Sit for a really long time.
similar word: Jalas = to sit for a small amount of time.

The words: La aQ`uda-nna = two emphasises = I will surely, surely sit for a
long time.

La-hum = for them (against us children of Adam).

Siraat = a path. mustaQeem = which goes Upwards.

So imagine when you start walking up the path of Islam (Siraat al mustaQeem),
it will be a hard struggle, and shaytaan is sitting on that path and will try to
push you off through any means.

Even if you fall off, remember that Allah will continue to forgive you if you
ask Him, so start climbing back up again, and again, and again until death...
so when you meet Allah, you can tell Him you tried your best, and when you try
your best sincerely - thats when Allah will admit you into Paradise inshaa Allah.

Then I will come to them from before them and from
behind them and on their right and on their left, and You
will not find most of them grateful"

You'll realise that the people who are most distant from Allah are the people who thank
Allah the least, and they are the least thankful to Allah too. Most of the time they are
always angry and burning inside, jealous of someone else, and all these are the
characteristics shaytaan has put into their hearts (since shaytaan wants the people to be
like him and go into Hell.)
[ Allah ] said, "Get out of Paradise, reproached and
expelled. Whoever follows you among them - I will surely
fill Hell with you, all together."

And the earth will shine with the light of
its Lord... (al Zumar 39:

And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the
heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead
except whom Allah wills. Then (thumma) it will be
blown again for the last time, and at once they will
be standing, staring/looking on.

(Surah al Zumar 39: 68)

Suwr = a Horn (sometimes an animal horn) which you blow into and a sound is
made.

Sa`iqa - it refers to when lightning strikes someone and they die suddenly and
stop moving totally. sudden death.

man = whoever

fee al samaawaati wa al arD - in the skies and the Earth.

il-laa man shaa'a Allah - except whoever Allah wants (some tafseers say that
the Shuhadaa / martyrs will not die, and infact they are in Paradise right now).
Allah knows best.

thumma = then (after some time).
Similar word: fa = then (suddenly)

Nufikha = it will be blown into

Ukhraa - the last (lastest) time.

fa = then

idhaa = when (future tense)

Qiyaam = standing upright

yaNDhuroon - NaDhr - to be staring in detail (people will be shocked on this
Day, because they've never seen these things - angels, devils, humans naked, it
is a scary day, may Allah protect us).

And the earth will shine with the light (Nuwr) of its
Lord, and the record [of deeds] will be placed, and
the prophets and the witnesses will be brought, and
it will be judged between them in truth (Haqq), and
they will not be wronged.

(Surah al Zumar 39: 68-69)

sharaqa = to shine, radiate. The sun rising and glowing beautifully, the East
is called maShriq because the sun rises and shines and radiates from the
East. - the Earth will shine on this Day with the Nuwr (Light) of its Lord -
Allah.

Maybe this is why the Earth will be white on that Day? Because of the splendid
light of Allah.

WuDi`a - waDa`a - to Fall down.

al Kitaab - the Books.

Jee' (Jaa'a/yaJee'u) = to Come/Arrive (something big, heavy, powerful is
coming).

Similar word: Ataa = to Come/Arrive (something smaller and less in impact than
Jaa'a / yaJee'u)

This shows the Messengers will come with something BIG and Heavy - what is it
that they will come with? Their witnessing and proof against the disbelievers
and sinners.

QuDiya - QaDaa - to Fulfill something (a Judge fulfills the responsibility of
Judging).

Dhulm = wrongdoing.

Allah's Names: al Wahhaab (the Gift
giver)

al Wahhaab

Commonly translated as 'the Bestower.'
(Giver)

But there are alot of names of Allah
(like al Razzaaq, al Mu'Tee etc.) which
mean that He gives, so why is this one
different?

Wahhaab comes from the word 'hib' (Gift),
so Allah is the One who gives
Gifts/presents.

Wahhaab is on the pattern of Fa33aal =
someone who does something all the time,
repeatedly, and its their job to do it.
(i.e. Khubz = bread, Khabbaaz = bread
maker).

Wahhaab is on this same pattern of Fa33aal,
so it means - Allah is the One who
repeatedly gives Gifts, its His job to always
do it.

Salaf Stories: Two Companions, one in
Paradise and the other in Hell. (Quran
Surah Saffat 37: 38-57)
Two Companions, one in Paradise and the other in Hell.
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, And you will not be
recompensed except for what you used to do -

But not the chosen servants of Allah. Those will have a provision determined - Fruits;
and they will be honored. In gardens of pleasure. On thrones facing one another. There
will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, White and delicious
to the drinkers; No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, As if
they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.

And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. A speaker among them will say,
"Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe
That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"

He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" And he will look and see him in the midst of the
Hellfire. He will say, "By Allah , you almost ruined me. If not for the favor of my Lord, I
would have been of those brought in [to Hell].

(Quran Saffat 37: 38-57)

Abu Ja`far bin Jarir recorded that Furat bin Tha`labah Al-Bahrani said
concerning the Ayah,

(Verily, I had a companion)

"There were two men who were [business] partners and had
collected eight thousand Dinars.

One of them had a craft [skill] and the other did not. The one who had a craft said
to the other, `You do not have a craft, so I think I will divide the money with you
and leave you.' So he left him.

Then the man bought a house, belonging to a king who had died, for the price of
one thousand Dinars. He called his companion and showed him the house, saying,
`What do you think of this house I bought it for one thousand Dinars.' He said,
`How beautiful it is.' When he went out he said, `O Allah, this companion of mine
has bought this house for one thousand Dinars; I ask You for one of the houses of
Paradise -- and he gave one thousand Dinars in charity.'

Then as much time passed as Allah willed should pass. The first man married a
woman with a dowry of one thousand Dinars, and invited his companion and
made food for him. When he came, he said, `I have married this woman with a
dowry of one thousand Dinars.' He replied; `How beautiful this is.' And when he
left, he said, `O Lord, my companion has married a woman with a dowry of one
thousand Dinars; I ask you for a wife from among Al-Hur Al-`Iyn' -- and he gave
one thousand Dinars in charity.

Then as much time passed as Allah willed should pass. Then the first man
bought two gardens for two thousand Dinars, then he called his companion and
showed them to him. He said, `I have bought these two gardens for two thousand
Dinars.' He replied, `How beautiful this is.' When he came out, he said, `O Lord,
my companion has bought two gardens for two thousand Dinars; I ask you for
two gardens in Paradise' -- and he gave two thousand Dinars in charity.

Then the angel came to them and took their souls in death. He took the one
who had given his money in charity and put him in a house that he liked. There,
there was a woman who was so beautiful that the ground shined under her, then
he (the angel) took him to two gardens and gave him other things which are
known only to Allah.

The man said, `This is like a man who has such and such.' The angel said, `That is
exactly what it is; this house, these gardens and this wife are all for you.' The man
said, `I had a companion who used to say: Are you among those who believe' It
was said to him, `He is in Hell.' He said, `Will you look down' So he looked down
and saw him in the midst of Hell.

At this, he said:

(By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. Had it not been for the grace of my Lord,
I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell).)''

Allah's Name: al Waduwd ( ) The
Intensely Loving

al Waduwd () The Intensely Loving

There are lots of words for Love in arabic;

Hubb, Ishq, ulfah (love which unites), Wadd.

Wadd is the strongest of all the types of love listed, and implies a strong
attachment =
Intense Love.

The waw after the 2nd root letter = Excessive.

So Allah being Waduwd = Intensively, Excessively Loving.

To go one step further, Allah is AL-Waduwd, so the AL implies that He is THE
greatest, the most expert, advanced in that field. He is THE One who does that
best. Which is another emphasis.

So this implies that Allah,
al Waduwd is; [AL] THE MOST Intensive, Excessive, Loving One ever.

So no-one should ever feel that Allah will not love them if they turn to
Him sincerely.

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and
do not dispute/pull at each other
(taNaaza`oo)... (al Anfal 8:46)

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not
dispute (taNaaza`oo) and [thus] lose (ta-fshal-oo)
courage and [then] your strength would depart (ta-
dh-hab Reehu-kum); and be patient (Sabr). Indeed,
Allah is with the patient.

(surah al Anfal 8:46)

Allah is giving the believers advice before battle (this ayah is talking about before
Badr, but it can refer to any battle too).

Allah says:
And obey Allah and His Messenger and
Do not:

taNaaza`oo - Naz` which has been translated as 'dispute'
(argue) actually means to Pull something violently.
taNaaza`oo (arabic verb pattern: taFaa3al - to do an action
with something else) means for two groups to Pull against
each other at the same time.

So Allah is commanding that the believers do not argue with each other
by pulling against each other (one saying I want to do this, and another
saying he wants to do something else) because Allah knows there is
strength in Unity in obeying Allah and His Messenger (sal Allahu alayhi
wasalam).

Why shouldn't you argue?

Fa = then

taFshal:
Fashal = Disappointment, to fail, to flop.
Fashl = to become Weak.

Fashila = to lose courage, and to become weak and faint
hearted (like when you lose hope of winning).

ta-dh-hab - dhahaba = to leave/exit.

Reehu-kum = your Wind (Reeh).

Reeh is violent wind in Arabic (in surah Fussilat 41:16 - Allah says
He sent a Reeh [violent wind] which destroyed the people of 'Aad.)

What does this mean? Your violent wind will fail, flop, and become
weak?

Yes, exactly. You as a Muslim army are a powerful weapon Allah is using
to destroy those who oppose Allah, He is describing you as a
powerful wind which will destroy His enemies like He used a
violent wind to destroy the disbelievers of 'Aad.

But if you don't obey Allah and His Messenger, and you start pulling at
each other (taNaaza`oo) in arguments, then your violent wind power to
destroy the enemy will become weak and flop, your hearts will lose
courage, and you will become scared (faint hearted).

wa-aSbiroo - and all of you, be Patient (Sabr)

Sabr = to be patient. But it means more than that, it means to tie
yourself down to something.

So imagine, the believers have starter arguing with each other and have
become weak, some of them will even get scared because the believers
are not strong anymore, they're just arguing and pulling at each other.

So Allah commands them still: iSbiroo = be Patient/tie yourself
down - all of you!

So don't run away! Even if you feel afraid, tie yourself down so you don't
run away in battle.

Inna = No doubt

Allah is with the Saabireen (the Patient/tied down) ones.

Even if everyone else in the army has let you down by arguing with each
other, you stay patient and committed and tied to the Muslims, because
no doubt - Allah is then with you.

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not
dispute/pull at each other (taNaaza`oo) and
[thus] lose (ta-fshal-oo) courage and [then] your
strength/violent Wind power would depart (ta-dh-hab
Reehu-kum); and be patient (Sabr). No doubt, Allah is
with the patient.

Those who guard their Furuwj
(tear[weakness]/private parts) - (Quran
Ma'aarij 70:29)

Allah tells us one of the descriptions of the people who are successful and will enter
Paradise;

(They are) those who guard their Furuwj (private parts)...

(Quran Ma'aarij 70:29)

Farj (plural: Furuwj) = a Tear.
a - a Tear in a Fortress wall = Farj.
b - the Private parts of the human = Farj.

I.e. Because Farj means 'tear', a Poet of Arabic may refer to it as a weakness of the
enemies 'fortress' (a tear in the enemies fortresses walls), and also at the weakness of
an enemies Private parts. Because a fort protects you, but if it has a tear in it, you are
weak and open to attack, similarly if someones private parts are exposed - they are also
weak and exposed to desire or harm.

This is one of the literary tools God uses in the Quran to describe the good believers
who are successful;

Those who guard their Furuwj (tear[weakness]/private
parts) - (Quran Ma'aarij 70:29)

As if He is telling us; your Furuwj are a 'tear' (physically), but also as a weakness in your
bodily fortress. So don't let your spiritual enemy (someone who isn't your legitimate
husband or wife, but they are trying to seduce you) - do not let them target your
weakness of sexual desire. Otherwise you may lose your fortress and your religion in the
process.

The Fire will Climb step by step onto
their Hearts! [Fu'aad - a heart on
emotional fire!] (Surah Humazah 104: 6-
7)
Surah Humazah 104: 6-7

In this surah, Allah threatens those who backbite
and insult people openly (in their faces) and
behind their backs. And those who when they
count their money - that their wealth will
give him eternal/forever/long term life.
Allah then describes the fire,
Ayah 6:

Naar Allah al moowqadah =
the fire of Allah kindled.
Allahs fire can never be compared to any other fire. Its uncomparable to any
worldly or imaginable fire.
moowqadah (ism mafool) = that which is lit (by Allah).
So it is the fire of Allah that He has lit, so imagine how badly it has been lit.
Ibn al Faaris: it illustrates a loud fire with many sparks. Naar associated with
Allah shows that no fire can ever be compared to it.
Allah created it so it remains that way (this is why the fire is an Ism instead of
a fil i.e. Allah never said the fire was lit by him. Rather He said the Fire of
Allah, kindled). Moowqadah implies that it is lit and now remains that way
without any change to it.

Normal worldly fires come to an end, but Allah is making it an endless fire by
using the word moowqadah.

Ayah 7:

Which (goes) on climbing at the hearts.
tatalaa = climbs painstakingly, rising of the sun is this word. A mountain
climber is called an itatalaa because he climbs step by step higher and higher
continuously up the mountain. This fire does that exact same thing. And it does
it continuously and repeatedly.
fuaad all the crimes being committed by the humazah (insulters) and
lumazah (backbiters) were due to an evil corrupted heart. So the hutama
[crusher] (will eat away the flesh, crush the bones and take the body out of
shape to reach the heart), and the fire will climb upto the heart.

aFiDah (plural) The word Fuaad (usually
translated as heart) means a piece of flesh,
surrounded with fire (in a figurative way to
describe the heart surrounded by emotions etc), but
now this Fuad is literal, its real, this heart really is
on fire and burning in flames!

In Surah al Haqqah -
We see the Order of words/objects gradually going
Upwards in Direction (when Allah is describing the Day of
Judgment)

i.e. (1) Earth (Ard) > (2) Mountains (Jibaal) > (3) Sky
(samaa') > (4) > Angels (malak), (5) > Throne ('Arsh), (6) -
Our Lord (Rabb) Allah

(see Haqqah 69: 13-17)

Then when the Horn is blown with one blast. And the (1) earth and the (2) mountains
are lifted and leveled with one blow - Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur,

And the (3) heaven/sky will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.

And the (4) angels are at its edges. And there will bear the (5) Throne of your (6) Lord
above them, that Day, eight [of them (i.e. angels)].

Her heart became empty (Qasas
28:10)

Her heart became empty

Background:

Pharaoh ordered that all the children of Israeel [the Jewish people when
they were rightly guided] have their newborn sons executed, and their
daughters kept alive as slaves.
The mother of Moses had a son, she had secretly hid him from Pharoah and his people.
Yet Allah inspired her that when she felt fear for her son, she should (put him in a basket)
and place him in the river Nile. And when she did fear for her sons death, she placed her
son into the river.

The Imagery:

Allah gives us amazing imagery of the feelings of the mother of Moses/Musa during that
moment.

And the heart of Moses mother became empty (faarigh)
[i.e. of all Tranquility]. She was about to disclose [the
matter concerning] him (i.e. that it is her son) had
We not bound fast (RabaT) her heart that she would
be of the believers. [Qasas 28:10]
Faarigh = to become Empty.

RabaT = Tie something Extremely Tightly.(i.e. tie
something so tight so that no Leaks can seep
through)

Now Imagine the Picture:
The mother of Moses is in fear for her son. She is inspired by Allah to place her son into
the river. As she places her child into the river, her heart starts dripping, her
Tranquillity is dripping/leaking out of her heart, into the river, as she lets go of her
son.. So Allah says that He placed a RabaT something which Tied her heart tightly,
so the Tranquillity would stop leaking from her heart. I.e. Allah kept her heart firm,
He reassured her through inspiration, that something good would come as a result of this
in the near-future.

This child, Moses would be of the mightiest Messengers of Allah who would come to
free the Children of Israeel from slavery.

Are you going to take him (Iblees/satan)
and his offspring as guardians as opposed
to Myself? (Kahf 18:50)

When We had said to the Angels make prostration to
Adam. Then they all made prostration except Iblis; he used
to be from the Jinn. He violated the commandment of his
Master. Are you going to take him and his offspring as
guardians as opposed to Myself? And they are clearly
enemies especially to you. What a terrible (bi's) alternative
for the wrongdoers!

I did not make them a witness when I created the skies and
the Earth and I did not make them witness to their own
creation. And I would never be one to take those who
misguide as back-up (3aDuda). (al Kahf 18: 50-51)

We've already seen this story before, but the way Allah
describes it in different ways throughout the Qur'an gives
us more and more meanings we couldn't even imagine
before.

1 - Allah said He commanded the ANGELS (Malaa'ikah)
to prostrate (sajdah) to Adam. Allah then tells us that the
Angels did do sajdah to Adam, except Iblees - who was
from the Jinn.

So when we read in the Qur'an that Iblees refused to
prostrate to Adam, we see his secret arrogance exposed. He
could have easily said to Allah that I never prostrated to
Adam because you commanded the ANGELS to prostrate
to him, but straightaway he started criticizing Adam out of
jealousy instead.

2 - Allah is telling us that Iblees (a Jinn) who is a
shaytaan/devil hates you (O children of Adam), since he
was the first one who harmed your parents out of Paradise.
So when we see humans who do devil-worship, then they
need to know that shaytaan will only try to spoil their lives
more than benefit them. Since he is jealous of them and
hates the human race from the beginning.

"Are you going to take him and his offspring as guardians
as opposed to Myself? And they are clearly enemies
especially to you. What a terrible (bi's) alternative for the
wrongdoers!"

Bi's = anything which is disgusting and makes you feel
disgusted. Infact, part of devil worship is that the people
have to live in and sometimes even eat human blood and
feces (what people do in the toilet). So Allah is telling us
that they have sold themselves for something disgusting,
they really have spoilt their lives by enslaving themselves
to shaytaan.

3 - Shaytaan justifies to people who turn to him for help by
giving them riches, or fame, but in return they have to do
alot of evil (like mentioned in point 2). To keep them
fooled though, he portrays himself as an equal to Allah who
is trying to get 'fairness' for humans who are ungrateful to
Allah and feel that Allah shouldn't give them hardships in
life (this is the evil of ungratefulness/kufr).

So shaytaan says that he was involved with Allah when
Allah created the skies and the Earth, and the other
creations. He goes further by saying that he was a supporter
of Allah in strength when Allah was creating the
Universe.*

I did not make them a witness when I created the skies and
the Earth and I did not make them witness to their own
creation. And I would never be one to take those who
misguide as back-up (`aDuda - ).

u - = the Muscles on your arms = strength.

- muscles from elbow to shoulder.

So Allah is telling us that shaytaan is lying to these people,
shaytaan is not an equal to Allah and he himself was
created by Allah, and Allah would not take those who
mislead people away from Allah's path as His strength.

*There are alot of Jinn exorcism/ruqya events when Jinn
have entered into human bodies and say:

Your Rbb hs promise you rewrs n our Iblees hs
promise us rewrs.

Adam - name meanings in Arabic.

Previously we took a look at shaytaan's names and their meanings in Arabic.

Now we'll take a look at Adam's name and its root meanings in Arabic:

Adam ( ) -

The root letters for Adam are Alif, dal, and miim. If we look at Lanes Lexicon, this is what
those root letters when put together mean:

Alif-Dal-Miim = seasoned (e.g. food), to
mix/associate/unite/mingle together, a means of access,
pattern/exemplar, object of imitation, tanned skin/hide,
leather, the surface of the earth/ground, Adam, Children
of Adam, human beings.
adam n. Quran; 2:31, 2:33, 2:34, 2:35, 2:37, 3:33, 3:59, 5:27, 7:11, 7:19, 7:26, 7:27, 7:31, 7:35, 7:172, 17:61, 17:70,
18:50, 19:58, 20:115, 20:116, 20:117, 20:120, 20:121, 36:60
Lanes Lexicon, Volume 1, pages: 72, 73, 74

(Source: http://www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm)

Now if we relate the bolded meanings to Prophet Adams name and his history, we see
that -according to Quran and Sunnah- he (Adam) was;

1 Mixed/mingled and united (created) from Dust and
water = Mud.

2 Created from the dust of the Earth (surface) of the
ground. (this is why the children of Adam all look like the
colors from the ground)

3 He is a Pattern/exemplar, object of imitation for all
his children.

(i.e. he committed a mistake, but repented and continued to be a good person till
death.) The second meaning could be that; we -children of Adam- are imitations of him
(because we look like him.) The third meaning could be that humans follow examples of
the people we live and be friends with in our lives.

We see that there is a BIG difference in the names of Adam compared to Iblees, the
shaytaan. We see that Bani Adam (the children of Adam) are way more intellectual by
nature, and its a known fact that humans are more innocent than Jinn (Jinn are often
known to be sly). Allah knows best.

No doubt, those who have put to heat
(fatan-oo) the believing men and believing
women and then (thumma) have not
repented will have the punishment of the
Torture Chamber (Jahannam), and they
will have the punishment of the Burning
Fire (Hareeq). (Burooj 85:10)

No doubt, those who have put to heat (fatan-oo) the
believing men and believing women and then (thumma)
have not repented will have the punishment of the
Torture Chamber (Jahannam), and they will have
the punishment of the Burning Fire (Hareeq).

(Surah Burooj 85:10)

inna certainly/surely. One of its main functions is to remove doubt.
So Allah is talking to a people who dont believe, who are skeptical. So Allah
emphasises that Surely..
It also talks to the believers who are being oppressed. And when people are
being oppressed, they might start to get doubts about the promise of Allah.
So Allah says Inna surely..
There is no doubt those who Fatan (put into test)..
Fatan the process of putting metal into fire, and
extracting and separating the pure metals (i.e.
Gold, silver etc) from the waste metals.
A painful process of purification.
fitnah you are put to the test, with your feet under the fire, seeing if you
are patient and become purified from evil, and come out as pure gold.
This word is consistently used in the Quran when there is something which
is trying to distance you from Islam. (i.e. Oppressors, temptation, greed,
fear etc. is Fitnah.)
No doubt those who put to test believing men (mumineen) and believing
women (muminaat).
The Muslims that go through trials of oppression and remain believers, they
are titled as Mumin (believer).
This is a level higher than just Muslims who say they believe (aladheena
aamanoo) since the Muslims might not have proven their firmness in
Emaan through facing such trials.
al Muminoon are the noun form because they are firm and committed in
their belief even after trials.
Muslims are called aladheena aamanoo those who say they believe. So
they are described in verb (temporary) form, because sometimes they are
committed, but sometimes theyre not fully committed. Or they havnt
shown their commitment to belief except if they themselves remain firm in
it after hardships/trials through which they become Mumin.
Allah says about these people who are firm in
emaan (belief) after fitnah, that they are
Muminoon.
He says in surah Muminoon [23:1];

successful are the

believers.
People feel sorry for these people, seeing the believers being tortured to
death. These people get the status of the high status of Mumin, and what
do they see there instead of a fire? They remember the gardens of Paradise
waiting for them.
Why are believing women also mentioned along believing men?
Because when people are oppressed and tortured, the women are also
exclusively oppressed (i.e. through rape etc.) So Allah has emphasised both
males and females in this ayah.
thumma lam ya tooboo
thumma thereafter (after a longer time period).
So these people tortured the believers, but maybe they lived many years
longer in life [thumma means 'thereafter' but emphasises a long time
period] and they might have started to regret what they had done. So
theyre repentance would be accepted.
thumma LAM ya tooboo thereafter they DID NOT repent/change their ways
for the better..
Tooboo Tawba to return (i.e. to the straight path).

..Fa lahum adhaabu jahannam..
Then only for them is the torture of Jahannam.
Fa is not mentioned in ayah 11 when the believers are described. Why is
Fa in this ayah when describing the disbelievers?
Why was Fa mentioned?
Fa = Therefore, as a result.
Their payment for doing this is Therefore/as a result;
Jahannam is not originally an arabic word, it
comes from the Faarsi (the Persian/Iranian
language) word Jahnaam = Torture chamber.
Jahannam is the general word used for ALL the tortures/punishments in the
hellfire.

walahum adhaab ul hareeq.
And it is only they who will have the punishment of the hareeq.
haraqa = to set something on fire.
There is a difference between burning and set on fire.
A bread toast might get burnt, but a cloth being put on flames = set on fire.
So whats worse? Answer: Being put on flames.
al hareeq that which sets on fire. Flames are coming off their skin. Why?
Because they set the believers on fire. They have been turned into the fuel
which burns, just like they made the believers fuel for their fire.

The day on which they will be tested on the fire. [Dhariyat 51:13]
You (O oppressors) had alot of joy and patience in watching the believers
burn. How long can you then stand and be patient with being put on fire on
this Day?

Those are they who purchase error at the price of guidance, and torment at
the price of pardon. How constant are they in their strife to reach the Fire!

No doubt, Allah is pushing away (harm)
for those who believe, Surely Allah does
not love the traitors, and extremely
ungrateful. (Hajj 22:38)

No doubt, Allah is pushing away (harm) for those
who believe, Surely Allah does not love the traitors,
and extremely ungrateful.

(Hajj 22:38)

This ayah is really beautiful, especially for Muslims who fear harm for
themselves (especially nowadays when its Muslims being targeted from all
around the world).

1 - Allah says Inna = No doubt (so remove all doubts from your mind that Allah
won't protect you).

2 - daafi3 = to Push away with a strong amount of force and energy. (if you
are Punjabi, the word dafa' actually means this - to push away with power and
'go away').

3 - yu-daafi3 = Present-Future tense (muDaari') - which means that He is
doing it now, and He will continue to do it in the future (so long as you avoid
sins and ask forgiveness from Allah alot).

4 - 'an = from. So Allah is pushing harm, and evil away FROM ('an) those who
believe. So any harm which comes to them, He pushes it away FROM them.

5 - alladheena aamanoo = those who Believe. (Meaning: they might not even be
strong Believers [Mu'minoon] - but they still try to believe and do good actions.
So Allah protects them.

Allah is really kind to us. He protects us from alot of evils which we're not even
aware of.

Keep asking Allah to protect you against the treacherous people (khawaan =
those who might make a promise to you, then they break their promise and
harm you).

And kafoor = extremely ungrateful, and could even refer to the disbelievers
(kaafiroon). No doubt - Allah does not love them, and He loves those who
believe and do good - so Allah love us, and protect us in this life and the next,
ameen ya Allah!

And We said, "Go down, [all of you], as
enemies to one another, and you will have
upon the earth a place of seeking
settlement (mustaQarr) and provision
(Mataa') for a time." (al Baqarah 2:36)

Sahih International
But Satan caused them to slip out of it and removed them from that
[condition] in which they had been (in Paradise). And We said, "Go
down, [all of you], as enemies to one another, and you will have
upon the earth a place of seeking settlement (mustaQarr) and
provision (Mataa') for a time."

(Quran al Baqarah 2:36)

..Wa qul-Naa ihbiToo -
And We said descend..

ihbiTOO descend (plural [3+])

The OO [waw, alif] at the end of the command ihbiT (descend) is a
Plural (3 or more characters.)

It is not in Dual (2 / two characters) form [which would be ihbitAA),
which shows that Allah is not just telling Adam and Eve to descend, but
also to a 3rd character - Iblees/shaytan.

They were descended to Earth. Which shows that the Earth is 'lesser' in
position to the high Paradise.

Ba'Da-kum bi Ba'Din 'aduw
"..Some of you (one group) [will be an] enemy ['aduw] to
Another.

There will be 3 different types of enemies on the planet Earth;
1 Some Men will have animosity/hatred against women.
2 Some Women will have animosity/hatred against men.
3 Iblees/shaytaan will be an enemy to both Men and Women.

When men and women have hatred for each other it will be because of
shaytaans influences.

In Modern Sociology and through history, there is a Social problem we
see;
1 Male Chauvinism where men feel they deserve everything and
females deserve nothing.
2 Extreme Femininism where women feel they deserve everything
and males deserve nothing.

People might try to make compromises but they can never fully reach
a fair/unbiased solution, except if someone/thing which isnt male or
female, and who knows the full internal/external details of human
beings can provide a fair solution. And who both males and females can
accept as a unified Authority then the arguments and animosity will
be settled. And this is through God/Allah and His Guidance.

..Wa la-kum fee al Ardi mustaqarrun..
And in the Earth, there will be a temporary place of rest for
you.

MustaQarr a place you try to take Stop/tranquility/calmness in for a
temporary amount of time. We try to get stability (Qarr) in this life, but
we never will fully (unlike Paradise).

wa mataaun ilaa Heeyn -
And Utilities/mataa' (for use) until a given time.

So Allah is saying that the Earth will be a temporary stay for us all, and a
use (mataa) for us until a set time.

Mataa a Tool which you use and do not really enjoy. (i.e.
Like a cleaning cloth, or any tool which you need to use to get your jobs
done.)

[Al Asma'i: - he did research on especially this word - Mataa' (because
Allah describes this world as Mataa' so much in the Qur'an). So he
would go to the desert Arabs and would listen to what Objects they
would use this word for (without telling them that this was his intent.)
But he found it hard because people would not say it naturally. And he
did not want to ask them directly what it meant because he would not
get a natural definition.

Until once he was sitting at a pond and a small girl was cleaning dishes
with a Scrubbing Brush, and a goat came and snatched it away from her.
She shouted; 'Akhadha Mataa'i' (he took my Brush!). So he writ
this down in his Commentary - that Mataa' means 'Scrubbing Brush'
(i.e. a using tool.) ]

Ustadh Nouman explains: Allah is telling us that this world is Mataa,
and that we should not waste our life being attached to things which is
only a Use to get to the next life.

Our money should be in our pocket or with the needy, not in our hearts.

Especially when Allah is telling us that this world is for a limited time
only (mataaun ilaa Heeyn.)

And We said, "O Adam, temporary dwell
(aSkan), you and your wife, in Paradise...
(al Baqarah 2:35)

Sahih International
And We said, "O Adam, temporary dwell (aSkan), you and your wife, in
Paradise and eat therefrom in [ease and] abundance from wherever you
will. But do not approach this (haadhi-hi) tree, lest you be among the
wrongdoers."

(Quran al Baqarah 2:35)

The word aSkun comes from the word Sakana or Sukoon - to rest and
pause somewhere (not permanently).

Synonyms:

- thawaa - meaning to be buried,to stay some place,to populate.

Meaning to make some place permanent abode. to keep residence at a
place since time of forefathers.

- khalada - to live at a place for long period where there is no

variation or corruption. (This word is used to describe the people living
in Paradise forever. i.e. See Quran 2:25) We see Allah did not use this
word for Adam and Hawwa in the first paradise, which is a proof they
wouldn't live in that Paradise forever.

So we see that when Allah commanded Adam and his wife (our
mother Hawwa/Eve) to live in Paradise, He was already hinting at
them that you will not live in this Paradise forever - you will only live
here temporary (aSkan). The Paradise Adam and Hawwa were living in was
part of a test and plan which Allah had made for them, because He knew fully
well they would slip and go to Earth after that. This was His full plan because
when He created Adam, He told the angels:

And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels,
"Indeed, I will make in the earth a successive authority
(Khaleefah)." They said, "Will You place upon it one who causes
corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and
sanctify You?" Allah said, "Indeed, I know that which you do not know."
(Quran 2:30)

Khaleefah = someone who comes after another. In this it means that
humans would live one after the other (ie. After Adam died, his children
live on for lots of generations.)

Also by Allah telling Adam not to eat from THIS (haadhi-hi)
Shajarah (Tree) - He is hinting to us that He tests us with the sins which
are close to us, because He could have said do not go close to THAT
(tilka) tree, which would have hinted the tree of sin is far away. Sins
which are closer to us are more tempting, just like Allah tested Adam.
May Allah protect us, ameen.

Description of Paradise / Jannah (Surah
Ghashiyah 88: 10-16)

Surah Ghashiyah 88: 10-16
Ayah 10:

Fee jannatin AAaliyah
In high gardens,

Why are high places so good? Humans want to have a high viewpoint from which they
can see everything below them. The higher up you are the better the view.
The garden on top of a hill the most beautiful part.
The people of hell would be thrown down, and the people of Paradise will be in high
gardens.
Just like the disbelievers were being punished in fire, then fed harmful food, then forced
to drink boiling water... Torture upon torture upon torture.
The believers on the other hand will have pleasure upon pleasure, upon pleasure.

When youre buying a property you buy the highest one. Since it is lesser at risk of
being damaged by floods etc. And in the property markets the highest properties
usually have a higher value due to the good views you can see of the scenery around
you.

Ayah 11:

Laa tasmaAAu feeha laghiya
Wherein you will hear no unsuitable speech.
No bad talk in Jannah (Gardens of Paradise). Since evil and bad speech always hurts
someone, even if you are in the best of places.
How many people live in beautiful houses but their marriage life is bad, so they say bad
words to each other, and the wife and children are crying? Or the children are grown up
and they shout at their parents? They have sad lives even though they live in beautiful
houses.
So a gift in Paradise is that you hear no bad speech.
You want to move to a neighbourhood where there is peace, calmness, no bad swearing
neighbours.

Ayah 12:

Feehaa AAaynunjariya
Within it is a flowing spring.

ayn water springs.

jaariyah flowing.

So you are on a high garden, with water springs flowing. = This means you are on top of
a waterfall!
Compare this to the people scorched in flames, they are being forced to drink boiling
water.
The people of Paradise/Jannah are living on high gardens, with beautiful scenery, on top
of a spring waterfall with alot of cool water flowing always.
The most expensive hotels in the world today have swimming pools, water fountains
and simulated waterfalls to make the scene seem exciting and alive. People are
fascinated by them all over the world and everyone wants one.

The Quran was revealed over 1400years ago, and still people have interests and
incline to the same things.

Ayah 13:

Feeha sururun marfooAAah

Within it are couches raised high
So the sitter can sit back and see everything he owns.
The garden you live in is high, with an amazing view, with a higher seat to see that view,
of everything that you own, the results of your efforts of working hard in this life.
In this life, when you beautify your house you spend so long on keeping it clean and
tidy that you cant enjoy it. This isnt the case in Jannah (Gardens of Paradise).
Everything is done for you.

Ayah 14:

Wa akwaabun mawDooAAah
And drinking-cups ready placed,

akwaabun- koowb or kawb is a cup in arabic that is big, it does not have a handle, it is
thin/slender from the middle neck and wide from the top. So its similar to champagne
glasses nowadays. These glasses would have a history of holding exotic drinks.
They have already been placed. In other words your dining table has already been set
for you.

mawDooah (from WaD = to place down) lowered. A servant lowers the glass and
puts it down infront of you. tuDa (verb form) could be mentioned to meanthe glass will
be placed down once. But mawDooah implies that when you drink from it, another
drink is placed. And when you drink from that, another is placed Continuously they
are placed for you to drink from. (This even happens in expensive restaurants today,
except it all gets charged at the end, and you have to pay an expensive bill. Whereas
everything in Jannah is free because of your efforts to please Allah, so He rewards you
with an endless reward.)

Ayah 15:

Wa namaariqu maSfoofa
And cushions set in rows,
Namariq - small pillow (according to Lisab al Arab dictionary). So that small pillow you might
put on your high couch/bed to feel even more comfortable.
MaSfoofah rows upon rows upon rows of pillows. Alot of pillows. Everywhere you
look, youre finding relaxation.

Ayah 16:

Wa zaraabiyyu mabthootha
And rich carpets (all) spread out.

zaraabiyu- expensive, elegant rugs.
Al Farra says: expensive rugs made of delicate fibres [i.e. velvet etc.].
Even nowadays exotic rugs are an expensive market which people who have
mansions buy for their living rooms.

mabthoothah spread as far as the eye can see. Cushions and rugs, as far as you can
see in your big living room.
Allah is giving people what people look for even till this Day and throughout human
history;

A high garden, with a spring waterfall, a nice home, with expensive glasses of the best
drinks, and relaxation of the best beds, cushions and carpets. Everything youve ever
wanted.

And he who We grant long life, We
Reverse him in creation... - Yasin 36:68

Nakis (

) - which is translated as Reverse, really means to put something Upside

down.

So in this ayah, Allah is showing us that when we grow and mature to reach the age of 40
- we are working to be Upright, and straight. (imagine a cup standing up straight).

Then as we go beyond the age of 40, we start going Upside down. So instead of getting
stronger, now we will only go weaker. We will go Upside down (Nakis).

Some of the good Muslim scholars said: "If you use stop yourself from haraam
(the forbidden things) in your youth - Allah will keep you strong in your old
age."

Satan (shaytan's) names meanings
We saw in an earlier post why Iblees never prostrated (did sajdah) to our father
Adam HERE.

But before this event, his name wasn't shaytaan, nor was it Iblees. It was only
after this event he is called Shaytaan and Iblees.

Shaytaan's (Satans) Names (may Allah curse him):

So why is he called these names now? Lets look into their root meanings from
an Arabic perspective:

Iblees - the broken-in-spirit,
perplexed despairer of God's Mercy.

Iblees ( ) (shaytaan was called this After he never prostrated
to Adam) -
= Ba-Lam-Siin = despair, give up hope, become broken (in spirit), mournful,
become silent/confounded/perplexed unable to see right way or course,
repent/grieve.

If we look at the description of the Root letters of Ibleess name, we see that
these Descriptions (in red) fit him extremely accurately.

How? After Iblees refused to prostrated to Adam,
he lost his;
- high ranking he had with the angels,
- he lost his beauty (he was as beautiful as the sun and looked like an angel,
when he refused to do sajdah - he became extremely ugly.
- he would despair and give up hope of Allah's mercy and not repent to Allah
out of arrogance.
- he became broken in spirit - confounded, and perplexed - meaning - he was
never able to see the right way again after this sin of his. Instead he misled
more and more people away from the truth instead of himself finding the
guidance again.

All these were the internal feelings he has against the children of Adam. He
himself wants us to make us like him.

Shaytaan - the enflamed excessive
wrongdoer:

External feelings:

. meaning. - Shaytan Satan;. A difference of opinion. It could have
either of 2 origins;.

1 shatana. . - to be far from the truth. 2 shaata.

. to be engulfed
in flames.

The root letters Shiin-Ta ( ) - in Arabic actually has the implication of:

to be far off, wrong anyone, treat with injustice, go beyond due bounds.
shattan - extravagant lie, exceeding, redundant, excess. ashatta (vb. 4) - to
act unjustly.
shatat n.m. Quran 18:14, 72:4
ashatta vb. (4) impf. act. Quran 38:22

He is far away from the truth, engulfed in flames of rage (anger and jealousy),
and also will be surrounded in the worst punishment in Hell.

He is far away from the truth, he wrongs people, encourages them to do
injustice, and encourages them to go beyond the limits of Allah so they fall
into the haraam. He is extravagant in his lying, and is always doing excess in
evil and wastefulness.

Summary:

So we see that Iblees and Shaytaan are both descriptions of his internal and
external emotions and actions, we need to try our best to not get the
characteristics of the shaytaan (which are easy to get when we have excessive
anger and desires).

Allah has made the Arabic language extremely accurate to tell us clearly who
our enemy is.

Allah tells us:

Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an
enemy. He only invites his party to be among the
companions of the intensely blazing fire .

And [mention] when We made the House
(the Ka'bah) a place of return
(mathaabah) for the people and [a place
of] security... (al Baqarah 2:125)

And [mention] when We made the House (the
Ka'bah) a place of return (mathaabah) for the
people and [a place of] security...

- Surah al Baqarah 2:125

If you've seen people going to the Hajj lately and you've really wished to go
there, then Allah has put this in your heart - He's actually placed it in ALL of
mankinds hearts.

But what does Mathaabah mean?

Mathaabah = a Place you return to alot,
repeatedly, because you need to go there (as if
you need to go there for survival.)

This word was used by the Arabs to describe the
Watering place where their Camels used to drink
from. So at one time they drank water from there,
then they would Return back to it whenever they
were thirsty.

So Allah is hinting to us that the Ka'bah in Makkah is like a place we return to to
fulfill our spiritual thirst, and we want to return there over and over again
always, to quench our spiritual thirst.

So next time you see the Ka'bah and you feel you want to go there, its because
Allah has built it inside us - the Ka'bah is a Mathaabah = a place we repeatedly
want to return to.

Indeed in that is a warning (ibrah) for
whoever would fear. - Nazi'at 79:26
Surah Nazi'at 79:26:

inna fee dhalika la ibratan li man yakhsha

Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear.

'Ibra - commonly translated as 'Lesson / Warning'.

Allah in the previous ayah [ayah 25] tells us that He, the Almighty seized
Pharoah in a severe punishment, as an example for the later and earlier people.

Then in this ayah He tells us;- Indeed in that is a 'Ibrah for whoever would fear.

What does 'Ibrah mean?

1 - 'Ibra - 'Uboor - to cross water / a river.

This meaning can imply that this story of Pharoah -the tyrant- being killed by Allah is a 'crossing'
[metaphorically: a Pathway/lesson] for someone who fears.
2 - 'Ibra - 'Abara - someone is so sad - that they are about to cry tears.

This meaning can imply; that this story of Pharoah -the tyrant- being killed by
Allah is a 'tear which crosses the eye' of someone who fears.

So just through one word Allah shows us many images of Pharoah's punishment being;

1 - a Warning (which Crosses ['Ibr] the person's mind if they think of being like Pharoah.
2 - a Lesson (which Crosses ['Ibr] a person's mind when they Do Oppression, or if they see
Oppression)
3 - a Tear (which Crosses ['Ibr] a person's eye if they fear Allah's punishment.)

All just through 1 word; 'Ibrah.

Indeed in that is a warning/lesson/tear for whoever fears.

And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all
together.. He brought your hearts
together (Al-lafa) - Quran aal Imran
3:103

And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together
and do not become divided. And remember the favor
of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He
brought your hearts together (Al-lafa) and you
became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the
edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it.
Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that
you may be guided.

(aal Imran 3:103)

This ayah is a strong emphasis on uniting the believers under the Qur'an.

Many of the Sahaabah (companions of Allah's Messenger, sal Allahu alayhi
wasalam) said the rope [Habl] in this ayah refers to the Quran. So the believers
MUST unite under the message of the Qur'an and Sunnah.

The word in this ayah which is beautiful is: Al-lafa () - lots of words in
arabic derive from it, like Ulfah = Love (urdu: ulfat). The word 1000 (Alf) in
arabic also comes from this root word.

So how does the word 1000 have any relation to Allafa mentioned in this ayah?

Simple: the word 1000 meant 'alot' in arabic. Imagine there are 1000
scattered pieces, and then you united them all into 1 (One) piece. This is
the picture being portrayed - that 1000s of people were scattered in different
parts of the world, alot of them were even enemies to each other. Then Allah
guided them with the Qur'an, so they all connected together as 1 big piece.
He then put Ulfah (Love) in their hearts for each other, a Love which makes
them as 'One being'.

This is what Allah expects off the believers. He doesn't like us breaking into
sects.

He strengthens this even more when He tells us in this ayah that we should
HOLD onto the Rope of Allah (the Quran) unitedly.

If everyone is holding onto the same rope - they will all be close to each
other, and facing the same direction where the rope leads to (upwards
towards the sky, closer to Allah).

This is the only way we will unite - if we unite on the Qur'an and its message.
This is why we need to have a strong dedication to studying the Qur'an
practically.

But stand apart (wamtaazu) today, you
criminals. - Yasin 36:59

[Then He will say], "But stand apart (wamtaazu)
today, you criminals.

- Yasin 36:59

This ayah is talking about Judgment Day.

Wamtaazu| Word Analysis
This is in the imperative, the command form. It
comes from imtiyaaz (from mayyiz) meaning to
separate something that was mixed.
People in the world are mixed up (believers and
disbelievers). Everyone is crossing paths, living in
the same neighbourhoods, going to the same
schools, going to the same jobs etc. There was no
distinction between right and wrong, but there
were some who were living a conscious pure
lifestyle, while others living an evil and sinful life.
They were crossing paths, but at the same time,
they had a different lifestyle in their hearts and
minds.

So on Judgment Day - Allah will command the
Criminals (Disbelievers and Sinners) to themselves
step out of the crowd and admit they are
criminals.
This is extremely difficult, and humiliating for
them because when you are guilty - you want to
hide in the crowd of the people. But Allah is
commanding them to separate themselves on this
Day [on Judgment Day], and they have nothing
they can do except obey. Yet when they step out -
they know they will be punished in Hellfire too.
What an evil and distressing dilemma!
May Allah not make us of the Criminals, ameen ya
Allah!

And let there be [arising] from you a
nation inviting to [all that is] good
(Khayr), enjoining what is right (Ma'roof)
and forbidding what is wrong (muNkar),
and those will be the successful. (3:104)

And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is]
good (Khayr), enjoining what is right (Ma'roof) and
forbidding what is wrong (muNkar), and those will be the
successful.

- Surah aal Imran 3:104

This Ayah summarises how to actually give Dawah (Inviting to Islam)
step by step, without letting the receiver of the Dawah feel
uncomfortable too.

Steps of Da'wah in Order:

1 - Inviting to the Good (al Khayr)
2 - Enjoining the Ma'roof (Recognised)

3 - Forbidding the MuNkar (Unrecognised)

1 - al Khayr - This means that when you approach someone, you should
encourage him in goodness. If the person is already doing
something good - then encourage it even more! This actually makes you
both have a common ground with each other and feel comfortable with
each other.

2 - Ma'roof does not literally mean 'good'. Ma'roof comes from the
word: 'Urf which means (that which is Known & Recognised
in society). So when you enjoin what is Ma'roof in a society, you're
actually encouraging people to do what is Good in that society (good
which that society recognises, and good which is pleasing to Allah).
Every culture has some goodness in it, you should promote that.

So in the first two stages, you're encouraging people to do what they
already know is good, this makes them love you and trust you as a good
person who actually wants good for the people of that society.

3 - Forbid the MuNkar - muNkar is commonly translated as 'evil'. But
MuNkar actually is the opposite of Ma'roof (see: point 2).
MuNkar comes from the word Nakeer / Nakirah - that which
is NOT recognised, NOT known.

So when people do evil in society, that was NOT recognised as
something good, it was not even known in society before until after
people had been doing it for so long.

Steps of Da'wah in Order:

1 - Inviting to the Good (al Khayr)
2 - Enjoining the Ma'roof (Recognised)
3 - Forbidding the MuNkar (Unrecognised)

This is what Aa'isha (Allah be pleased with her) who said;

..the first thing that was revealed thereof was a Sura from Al-
Mufassal, and in it was mentioned Paradise and the Fire. When
the people embraced Islam, the Verses regarding legal and illegal
things were revealed.

If the first thing to be revealed was: 'Do not drink alcoholic
drinks.' people would have said, 'We will never leave
alcoholic drinks,' and if there had been revealed, 'Do not
commit illegal sexual intercourse, 'they would have said, 'We
will never give up illegal sexual intercourse.'...

[Sahih al Bukhari - Virtues of the Quran, 515 - Narrated Yusuf bin
Mahk]

Meaning: Tell the people to do good and they will get good (Paradise),
and to avoid evil, otherwise they will get evil (Punishment.) By
encouraging them to do the Ma'roof (Good things they already
Recognise) - they will be more open to accepting your Dawah
(invitation to Islam) afterwards.

He has succeeded who purifies it (his
Nafs/self), & And he has failed who
instills it [with corruption]. (Surah Shams
91: 9-10)
Surah al-Shams (the Sun ) 91 - ayah 9 and 10

Ayah 9:

He has succeeded who purifies it (his Nafs/self),

qad aflaha man zakaha

Qad - Already happened. Absolute certainty.

aflaha - he succeeded.

Similar word is najaha.

aflaha - iflaah - farmer who is about to reap harvest.

falaah - aflaha - attain success after long duration
of labour/work.

So efforts have to be made. What efforts?

The one who has (sincerely) engaged in cleansing ones self has already attained
success.

zakaha - tazkiyyah (taf'eel) - which means 'he continuously, repeatedly, and
intensively purified his nafs/self'. The verb seems to be affecting oneself
(intransitive), affecting others (transitive) - he purified it (the nafs) - almost
as though the Nafs is outside of you (someone who you are trying to
dominate).

When it comes to the corruption of the Nafs - you have to try to clean it and
rectify it. As though you have to clean it as your job.

This purification consists of different things; preventing yourself from sins,
shameless acts etc.

We need to try to purify ourselves - then Allah will purify us of our sins. This is
important because we try our best to avoid sin, then we hope Allah will
forgive us.

Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight
ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you
when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs
of your mothers. So do not claim purity to yourselves (claiming you are
righteous etc); He is most knowing of who fears Him.
[an-Najm 53:32]

A Du'a [prayer/invocation] which Allah's Messenger would pray;
:
: "

" . ( ( 1479 ) )

Zaid bin Arqam (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of
Allah (Peace be upon him) would supplicate: " Allahumma inni a`udhu bika
minal-`ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-harami, wa `adhabil-qabri. Allahumma
ati nafsi taqwaha, wa zakkiha Anta khairu man zakkaha, Anta waliyyuha wa
maulaha. Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min `ilmin la yanfau`, wa min qalbin la
yakhsha`u, wa min nafsin la tashba`u, wa min da`watin la yustajabu laha`

[O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the inability (to do good), indolence,
cowardice, miserliness, decrepitude and torment of the grave. O Allah! Grant
me the sense of piety and purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it.
You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend. O Allah! I seek refuge in You
from the knowledge which is not beneficial, and from a heart which does not
fear (You), and from desire which is not satisfied, and from prayer which is not
answered] .''

[Sahih Muslim and Riyad us-Saaliheen - Chapter on Prayers/Invocations].

Conclusion of the Similarities of the Sun and the Nafs
(Self)
Allah in the earlier parts of the Surah described the Sun (al-shams), and how its
brightness and glory is covered by the night (al-Layl).

The Sun benefits the people through its light which provides guidance for
mankind. The Nafs when it is purified benefits mankind through its good,
however - in moments of conflict and weakness - it can be covered up in the
darkness of sin and misguidance temporarily. However, Allah can allow the
brightness of the sun to return again and overcome that darkness through its
purification.

al-Bicaa'i ; During the dark times of fitnah/trials and tribulations, the glow of
purity can still be shone through the moon - providing guidance to others in
the darkest of times.

Ayah 10 :

wa qad khaaba man dasaaha

And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].

khaaba - running after something and you didn't get it.
Disappointment, failure.

The one who throws his Nafs into the dust - completely disregards it - is setting himself
up for major disappoinment, loss and regret in this life and on Judgment Day.

dassaa haa (daal, seen, seen) - one who completely
disregarded their nafs/consciense. They didn't care about
what their nafs/conscience said to them.

Does he Think no-one sees him? [Balad 90:7]

They have no balance in their Nafs (of spirituality and halal/permitted worldly
matters - Either they've delved into too much haraam [forbidden] material
poleasures, or they've made certain things haram [forbidden] for themselves -
which were really permitted by Allah. Both of these are extremes.).

Whereas the Sun and Moon, Day and night have a balance (coming one after
the other). Similarly the human should stay on Purity like the bright Day,
yet when he falls into the dark night of sins - he should still turn back to the
Day of emaan and not stay stuck in darkness of oppression against himself.

So this person is going against the balanced nature which Allah had made for
him and all His creation.

Tafsir surah Duha - LinguisticMiracle

In simple words, if you're wondering why your
Emaan isn't increasing - its because you've stopped
purifying your Nafs (Self). You're not struggling to
Dominate your Nafs. You've neglected this struggle,
thrown it in the dust (dassaa haa).

So rise back up to struggle against your desires and
sins, and soon you will gain rewards from Allah in
this life and on Judgment Day.

Surely, Allah is Always holding His Hand
over your neck. (al Nisa 4:1)

O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you
from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam)
He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them
both He dispersed many men and women. And fear
Allah through Whom you demand your mutual
(rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs
(kinship/blood relatives).

Surely, Allah is Always holding His Hand over your
neck.

Raqab, Raqeeb, Raqaba refers to the back of the neck like if you are walking with an
animal that tends to go everywhere. Your goat is a little wild, so you grab the back of the
neck , so every time it thinks of taking a turn you hold it straight.

Indeed Allah has always had his hand on your neck.

(Raqeeb) Always/constantly the back of the Neck.

One aspect (out of many) personal aspects of this is; our mothers, when Im
little I cant eat, sleep without her. I depend on her, I turn 15, 16 than you get
more separated. You feel like your neck has been released. Allah is telling us
you are NOT free.

Allah holding our neck implies alot of other things
too: I.e. that:

- We are slaves to Allah and under His authority (since He is holding our
necks), whether we like it or not,

- that He can snap our necks (kill us) if we disobey Him.

- that if we try to go on the wrong way (like the goat example) - He will pull
us back onto the right track if He wants to. Even if that pulling us back hurts
us (some tests from Allah do cause us pain.)

Can you think of more?

(Iblees) said: Because You misguided
(ghawaa) me...

Qaala fa bi maa aGhway-ta-nee la 3aq3udunna la-hum SiraaTaka al mustaQiym

He said: "Because you have misguided me out of
the way, lo! I will lie in wait for them on your
straight & upright way:

(Surah al A'raf 7:16)

Iblees (satan) said this to Allah when he never prostrated to Adam.

What does Ghawa mean?

Ghawa is one of the families of the words fandalla, dalla means to be lost,
adalla he misguided. Aghwa also gets translated as misguided. So some
translations say because you misguided me because you cause me to slip
because you misled me

Ghawa actually means when you get stuck in a
problem as a result of not knowing any better.

Ghawa has another meaning; the picture is of driving
down a street and then being forced to go down a
side street which is a no-go zone, and then you are
stopped by the Police to be charged. Now you have
no means of getting back on the right road, or
getting out of the problem. In the word ghawa there
is also a sense of innocence. So one of the
manifestations of Iblees pride is Its not my fault, I
didnt know. You did this to me

So Iblees was saying that he was innocent, that it was part of Allah's plan that
Iblees would be misguided and rejected - by Allah making Adam, then
commanding Iblees to prostrate to Adam.

Why didn't Iblees blame himself? Why did he have to blame Allah for his
own bad action? Yes Allah put him in this tough situation to see how he would
react (knowing well that Iblees would be jealous of Adam [a piece of mud]
because Iblees was at this stage a beautiful angel who shined like the sun).

So Iblees felt angry - a beautiful shining sun who had worshiped Allah for
many thousands of years had to now lower himself to prostrate to a piece of
mud which hadn't served Allah at all? Why?? This anger made him hate Allah
and become His enemy.

Humans go through similar tests, sometimes you get the whispering of
shaytaan: Why did I have to get this test? Allah could have made my life easy,
why did He test me this way for?

You have to ignore those whisperings and remain in the obedience of Allah,
otherwise you will become arrogant against Allah like shaytaan had become.

When Iblees refused to obey Allah, he became extremely ugly. In some
Isra'eeliyaat (Jewish sources) it says that when Allah commanded him to seek
forgiveness for his sin, he asked Allah to seek his (iblees's forgiveness). May
Allah curse him, and he was cursed [lost all good in this life and the next]).

It also shows one more thing: We notice many disbelievers (especially atheists)
often blame Allah for their own bad actions (when God is mentioned), while
Christians and similar religions throw their sins onto someone else (I.e. Jesus or
a saint etc).

The only religion which says clearly that we have to carry our own sins and
repent for them directly to Allah alone is Islam.

This means Muslims are the only people in the world who follow the way of
their father Adam the most (since he asked Allah to forgive him when he
sinned), while all other religions and ways of life follow the way of Iblees (of
blaming Allah or 'passing on' their own sins to another saint.)

Then as for the orphan, then You will
NOT Dominate! (al-Duha 92: 9-10)

Then as for the orphan, then (do) Not
overpower/dominate him.

And as for the Asker, then (do) not Flood (Nahr)*
him.

(Quran al-Duha 93: 9-10)

The word 'Nahr' is used for a river, so Allah is telling us that anyone who Asks us
for something, then we shouldn't harm him (like water which floods over
someone/thing to destroy it).

But in this gem, the gem is the word 'Laa' which means 'No' (negation).

Lets look at this ayah from the perspective of Allah who is the Authority. He is
giving a command. So if we re-translate these two aayaat again, we see this:

Then as for the orphan, then You will NOT Dominate!

And as for the Asker - you will NOT flood!

It's a command, from the Authority - Allah.

We often read a translation of the Quran without looking at other translations.
When we reflect on the language ourselves and look at other meanings, we
see a new meaning from a new perspective. This is one of the beauties of the
Qur'an, you'll read an ayah once and see another meaning the next time you
read it again.

We sent against you servants of Ours -
those of great military might, and they
penetrated (Jaasoo) [into] the
betweens/insides (Khilaal) [of] the homes
(diyaar), and it was a promise fulfilled.
(Quran Isra' 17: 4-5)
And We conveyed to the Children of Israel in the Scripture
that, "You will surely cause corruption on the earth twice,
and you will surely reach [a degree of] great haughtiness.

So when the [time of] promise came for the first of them,
We sent against you servants of Ours - those of great
military might, and they penetrated (Jaasoo) [into] the
betweens/insides (Khilaal) [of] the homes (diyaar), and
it was a promise fulfilled.

(Quran Surah al Israa' 17: 4 - 5)

Jaasa: penetrate forcefully and break things, go between two things that are
combined together, get right into the middle of something.

Khilaal: fuse yourself between two things in a tight space

Diyaar: means homes.

So this extremely powerful and accurate language shows us this picture:

1 - The enemy penetrated (Jaasoo) into every single home, breaking through the doors
(doors are two gaps, a tight space between two things i.e. walls (= khilaal).)

2 - The enemy even stole the treasure of the Believers (of Banu Isra'eel [the jews when
they were Muslims]), because treasure chests are tightly closed together (khilaal). The
enemy was able to penetrate (Jaasoo) between the tight closed treasure chests and break
them open and steal their wealth.

3 -This can even depict the enemy entering deep into the houses of the believers and
harming their women, especially the unmarried (virgin) ones. These same words
describe this, and it is a common, sad reality of war.

Subhan Allah, the speech of Allah is so powerful! Allah wants to revive the sense of
protective jealousy (arabic: gheerah, urdu: gheirat) which the believers have against their
enemies. So He uses language which is subtle, but conveys so much powerful
meanings that the men will strongly want to defend their Islam, and their wealth
and families.

No wonder every verse is an ayah (miraculous sign). :)

Those who accuse righteous, protected
women (of shamelessness) (Surah Nur
24:4)
Asalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wabarakaatuh

And those who throw at the muHSanaat...

The word yaRmu comes from the root word Rami (to
Throw) i.e. a Spear or shoot an Arrow.

(Allah mentions the word Rami in the context of battle in surah al Anfal 8:17)

The word muHSanaat comes from the root letters: Haa-
Sad-Nun ( ), HuSoon are Fortresses (guarded buildings
used as protection in war).

We know the 'mu' prefix can refer to a living or non living
object, so it can refer to : Guarded fortresses, or
righteous women who protect themselves against
shameless acts.

The context of this ayah shows it is Righteous women who
protect themselves against shameless acts. It can also
imply that they live in protected houses where their
hayaa' (modesty) is kept safe.

In this ayah, Allah tells us that those who Rami (throw) at
the Righteous women/protected houses...

In context of this surah - it means these people throw
Accusations of evil (shamelessness) against Righteous,
protected women.

Rami (to Throw) is often used in the context of throwing
things (like arrows, bullets) at others in war, so Allah is
hinting to us that when people accuse a Righteous woman
from a Protected house of indecency, then it is like they
are waging war against her, and her family, and they
are making Allah extremely angry by doing this.

Why is it such a big deal? Because it spoils her and her
families entire life, and it corrupts society by publicizing
lies and evil acts in society. So it really has the effects of
war - destruction and corruption.

And those who Rami (throw i.e. accusations [metaphorical:
spears, arrows etc.]) at (muHSanaat - chaste women,
protected fortressed women) and then do not produce four
witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept
from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly
disobedient, (Quran Surah Nur 24:4)

No wonder accusing an innocent protected woman is one of the 7 major
deadly sins in Islam, because it is like waging war against them.

Narrated Abu-Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him); The Prophet (SAWS)
said: Avoid the seven great destructive sins. The people enquired; O
Allahs Messenger! What are they? The Prophet (SAWS) said: To join others in
worship along with Allah, to practise sorcery, to kill the life that Allah has
forbidden except for a just cause (according to Islamic law), to eat up usury, to
eat up the orphans wealth, to show ones back to the enemy and fleeing from
the battlefield at the time of fighting, and to accuse the chaste
women, who never even think of anything (evil of
indecency) touching their chastity and are good
believers.(Sahih al Bukhari).

Be jealous of him...
Allah's Messenger said, "Do not wish to be like anyone, except in two cases: (1)
A man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously. (2) A man
whom Allah has given wisdom (knowledge of the Qur'an and the Hadith) and he
acts according to it and teaches it to others."

"

This hadith is nice to read, because it depicts a really powerful image which
isn't shown in the English translation.

Most English translations try to convey the message in the hadith, but they
don't show the powerful images which are being displayed in the ahadith.

For example the part which I've colored RED is really awesome imagery.

The words SalT (meaning: Authority), and halaka are really amazing words in
this hadith.

SalT = Authority.
halaka = violent destruction.

Allah's Messenger is telling us that you shouldn't be jealous of people in this
world except for two types of people, one is someone who has been taught al-
Hikmah (the Wisdom of Allah's Book and the Sunnah - meaning this person
follows the Quran and Sunnah practically and has alot of wisdom out of that),

and the other person is the one who Allah has given wealth (Maal).

Maal is any wealth which you possess and use for a living (food, clothes,
houses, gold, silver, etc.)

What does this person do with the Maal? He SalaTa-hu = becomes an Authority
over it, as if he is becoming dominant over it, this Maal does not control him,
no - he controls the wealth like a Authoritative King controls his people with
strictness.

But that isn't the picture i want to focus on, the word halaka is amazing. This
man with his Authority - halaka (violently Destroys) his wealth - fee al haqq
(in [matters of] the Truth).

Meaning that he wants to get rid of his wealth, and only wants to use it for the
Truth. So he with full energy gives his wealth to Causes of Truth, as if he is
violently destroying it. Making sure the desire for the wealth doesn't overpower
him, so he makes sure he stays its Authority.

We should be jealous of a person like that. Remember that all of us have
atleast some wealth (even if its a little), and we can still be this person.

Now re-read the English translation, did that translation even depict this
image?

Picture: And whoever turns his back to
them on such a day... his place of safety is
Hell! Surah al Anfal 8:

O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [for
battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight].

And whoever turns his back to them on such a
day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or
joining [another] company, has certainly returned
with anger [upon him] from Allah , and his Ma'waa
(refuge) is Jahannam (torture chamber) - and what
an evil final destination (maSeer) that is!

(Quran surah al Anfal 8: 15-16)

So imagine the picture, you're in battle against the enemy, and suddenly you
get scared. You decide to flee without a valid excuse, you turn your back
(dubur) to the enemy. Allah is telling us this person earns the wrath/extreme
anger of Allah!

But what do you run back to? You run back to safety, some form of refuge
(Ma'waa), right? No. Allah is making us imagine that if someone turns his
back, he's running towards the refuge of Jahannam, and what is the Arabic
word Jahannam? It comes from the Persian/Farsi word Jahnaam = Torture
chamber (Hellfire).

So the person who turns his back in battle out of fear, he is running to the
safety (Ma'waa) of the Torture chamber of Hell!! (Jahannam). What an evil
final destination (maSeer)!

No wonder fleeing from the battlefield is one of the 7 major sins in Islam.

Narrated Abu-Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him); The Prophet (SAWS) said:
Avoid the seven great destructive sins. The people enquired; O Allahs Messenger!
What are they? The Prophet (SAWS) said: To join others in worship along with Allah, to

enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting, and to accuse the chaste
women, who never even think of anything touching chastity and are good

Picture: Do not go past the limits..
otherwise you will Unleash upon you My
Anger!

"Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not
taTghaw - transgress/go past the limits [or oppress others] therein, lest My
anger should be Unleashed (Hilla) upon you. And he upon whom My anger is
unleashed (yaHlil) has certainly fallen."

(Quran Taha 20:81)

Remember Arabic is a really powerful picturesque language, so the word
description that you see should be looked at as a real life picture or scene.

Taghaw = to go past the limit. (i.e. Taghaa al maa' = the Water went past the
limit i.e. the water spilled from the river or sea onto the ground, most likely
causing flooding).

Halla = to loosen a knot. Halaal comes from this word, which means that Allah
has loosened some things for us so they are permissible/allowed for us to use
by His Mercy.

You can get detailed definitions from here in the English language of more Quranic words:
http://www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm

Now what is Allah telling us; not to go past the limits He has set for us. The
same way if the sea and water goes past the limits Allah has normally set for
it, it causes damage to the Earth, the same way we are not allowed to go
past the limits Allah has set for us - otherwise we will harm others and
ourselves.

If we were to do that, Allah's anger will be loosened, it will be released, it
will be unleashed at us to destroy us!

Imagine this picture: You are told not to enter a forbidden territory of
haraam foods, the moment you step into haraam (forbidden) territory -
Allah's anger is unleashed at you to annihilate you.

That is the power of images Allah is showing to you through just 2 words!
Taghaw and Hill. This is the power of the speech of Allah.

Surah al Kahf - how much boys were in
the cave? Allah hints the answer to us in
the Qur'an!
Asalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

This ayah from surah al Kahf tells us about a debate people (Jews, christians
and even Muslims) have, how much young men fled into the cave in surah al
Kahf? Allah tells us only a few people know. Lets try to find out through this
mini article, and hopefully Allah spoke about us - the few - who knew how
much young men were in the cave. We'll be using the Arabic language to work
this out.

The Debate:

They will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they
will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the
unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their
dog. Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None
knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious
argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from
anyone." (al Kahf 18:22)

Now lets try to find the answer from this same surah, and later get a hint from the ayah
quoted above:

Two groups:

Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions
(hizbayn) was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in
time. (al kahf 18:12)

So we see there were 2 groups amongst the young men, they were united in
faith and purpose but they just had different opinions. The main thing we learn
is - they were 2 groups of boys. This will be important to work out the next
step.

The Number:

In Arabic, you can say; he said, they (two) said, and they (3+ people) said.

Qaala = He said
Qaalaa = they (two) said
Qaaloo = they (three + people) said.

We'll be using this to find out how much boys were in the cave.

And similarly, We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a
speaker from among them (1 boy), "How long have you remained [here]?" They
(Qaaloo [3+ boys] said, "We have remained a day or part of a day." They [3+
boys] said, "Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one
of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the
best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no
one be aware of you. (al Kahf 18:19)

Summary:

1 - We see there were 2 Groups of boys (Hizbayn) [al Kahf - 18:12]

2 - We see there was one boy (qaa'ilun min hum - an asker from them) who
asked How long they've been in the cave. [al Kahf 18:19]
3 - We see one group of the boys [3+] said 'we have remained here a day or
part of a day'
4 - The other group of boys [3+] said, send one of you guys to buy something to
eat.

1 + 3 + 3 = 7 boys in the cave.

Finally, if we look at ayah [18:]22 again, we see:

They will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they
will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the
unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their
dog. Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None
knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious
argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from
anyone." (al Kahf 18:22)

We see there couldn't be 3 boys because Allah's told us there were 2 groups,
and we know that each group had 3 + boys in.

We also see that Allah criticises the guess of there being 5 boys by saying
'rajmam bi-l ghayb' (literally meaning: throwing stones in the dark [so even if
you hit or you dont hit your target, you wont know if you're correct).

We then see that Allah doesn't criticize the number of boys being seven. So this
is the final hint that the boys are 7 boys, and the 8th being their big dog.

Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows
them except a few... (al Kahf 18:22)

Letter Ta ( ) - at the beginning of every
surah - secret Snake Gem (Taha 20:1)

Surah Taha (20) Ayah 1

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh162/speed2kx/snake-Ta-arabic-taha-naml-qasas-
egyptian-1.jpg

[One interesting comment: all the Surahs in the quran that begin with 'ta' have something
in common: ( two scholars, Hameed uddin farahi and his student, they argue that the
Arabic script is inspired by the; one of it sources, is the Egyptian hieroglyphics, like
Egyptian, you know, like those images carved on the walls. It's one of the origins of the
Arabic Scripts.. and in that take the letter 'ta', you know how its written, ya? It kinda looks
like the snake coiled and standing up. So, there's a coil at the bottom and there's the stick
part - the snake standing up.) So, every Surah that begins with 'ta ha' has Musa (as) and
the snake in it. (Just an interesting observation these two scholars made. Allahualam.). ]

Iblees WAS always from the disbelievers!
(al Baqarah 2:34)

And [mention] when 1- We said to the angels, Prostrate before Adam; so they
prostrated, except for Iblees. 2- He refused 3- and was arrogant 4- and he was of the
disbelievers. [2:34]
1. Allah honored the human being by commanding the angels to prostrate
before Adam. Shyatan envied Adam for this.
2. Means to refuse the command of someone in authority over you. The refusal
shows a lack of regard for the authority. Why did he refuse?
3. He was arrogant and was seeking greatness his worship was not sincerely for
Allah.
4. The past tense is used instead of the present. The former implies he was and the
later means he became. Shaytan was always a disbeliever and only Allah knew
it.
Prophet SAW said, No person who has the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance
in his heart shall enter Paradise.

"While Allah has created you and WHAT
(MAA) you make!" (as-Saffaat 37:96)
Asalaam alaikum Warahmatulah Wabarakatuh.

Allah (swt) says:

"While Allah has created you and what you make!"
(as-Saffaat 37: 96)

In Arabic, the word "maa " (in green) has many meanings and can be used in
many ways:
It could be used as an ism al-Istifhaam (interrogative particle) such as in the
sentence: Maa haadhaa? - What is this?

It could also be a harf al-Nafi (negation) as in: Maa katabtuhu - I did not write it.

Another way it could be used is as an ism al-Isharah (demonstrative pronoun) for
example: I'maloo maa shi'tum - Do that which you want to do.

It could also be used as a maa masdariyyah which is something I don't think is
found in English.

[The word maa usually always implies a negation, i.e. What? i don't.. etc.]

Now the amazing thing here is that all the above ways of using the word "maa"
can be accommodated in this one ayah. It is possible that the maa in the ayah
could be a maa masdariyyah, an ism al-Isharah, a nafi and an istifhaam.
So if it is taken as a maa masdariyyah then the meaning would be as it is the
translation above. "While Allah has created you and what you make!"

If it is an Istifhaam then it would be translated as: "But Allah has created you and
what have you done?"

If it is an ism al-Isharah then the ayah is: "But Allah has created you and that
which you do." It is similar in meaning to the first one, but there is a subtle
difference grammatically.

And finally, if it is a nafi then it would be: "But Allah has created you and you
have not done (that which you claim)."

So in this one small ayah all these various interpretations are possible and the
differences stem from just one word: maa ( .)

Allah is ALONE Waheed! (al Mudatthir
74:16)
As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaah wa barakatuh

Allah is ALONE Waheed! (reflections on:
Surah al Mudatthir 74:16)
Point #1:
Reading through Soorat Maryam had me thinking of various points,
one of which was the repetitive use of the word as opposed to the
word - they both mean one/single/alone etc but people tend to
use them interchangeably. I wondered if there was more to this & then
I noticed that throughout the Quraan when it speaks of Mankind being
raised up and the wrongdoers brought to Allaah for judgement it says
that they will come, (alone) and the word waahid is not
mentioned as much.
So why is this the case if they both mean the same thing?!
Well, do they both mean exactly the same thing?
No actually, not if we dig deep enough.
They say that:
:
:

In other words, the term fard has no special connotation to it,
and the one who is described as beingfard is one that is alone,
with no special value or rank. He is completely alone and carries
nothing of material gain or even honour in some cases.
This is in contrast to the term waahid which indicates that
although the person is one and alone, they have (status),
degree and is distinguished from others. They are alone but yet
they carry with them much more, like respect, honour and value.
This is remarkable considering how Allaah (`azza wa jall)
always describes Himself in the Quraan as being Waahid
and never Fard
Point #2:
This is also the reason perhaps, that Allah says:

Have you seen him who disbelieved in Our Verses and says: I
shall certainly be given wealth and children. [Maryam 19: 77]

We shall inherit from him all that he talks of (i.e. wealth and
children), and he shall come to Us alone (fardan) [Maryam:
80] i.e. without all the materialistic gains and honour/position
which he had attributed to himself.
Interestingly, it also says in Soorah al-Anaam:

And truly you have come unto Us alone (furaada) as We
created you the first time
[al-An'aam 694]
In tafseer al-Kashaaf [by Zamakshari], it mentions that this
verse actually came down regarding al-Waleed ibn al-
Mugheerah who incredibly was nicknamed al-Waheed by the
people They say that he was called so due to his leadership,
wealth and honour.
Subhanallaah, what a powerful message then this ayah sends to
him, when Allaah says, You have come to Us alone using the
term fard instead of waahid [so Allah has replaced
Waleeds/Waheed's honorable name into a humiliated one
(Fard)].
Point #3:
If you thought that was something, see what He `azza wa jall says in
al-Muddathir (in those 16 verses that were revealed about al-Waleed):

Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (waheed).

Subhanallaah! Indeed, what a humiliation for al-Waleed ibn al-
Mugheerah. Truly, Allaah alone is al-Waahid al-Waheed.
Allaahu akbar.
Source: Fajr Blog.
FOOTNOTE: Al Waleed ibn al Mugheerah was the father of Khalid ibn al Waleed, a Noble from Quraysh and from
the clan of Bani Makhzoom. He was so rich, wealthy and honored by the Quraysh that he was titled as al
Waheed/Independent from anyone else in wealth/honor/children etc. (as explained above.)

The following is an example of al Waleeds reaction to the Quran;
Ibn Abbas narrated:
al-Walid bin al-Mughirah (a polytheist) came to the Messenger of
Allah. The Messenger of Allah recited the Quran to him, and al-Walid
seemed to become affected and softened by it. Abu Jahl came to know
of this, so, he came to al-Walid and said: Dont you see that your
people are collecting charity for you?
He said: And why is that?
Abu Jahl replied: So that they can give it to you, as they see that you
went to Muhammad to get some of his food.
al-Walid said: Quraysh knows that I am of the wealthiest of its sons.
Abu Jahl said: So, say to Muhammad something that would convince
your people that you oppose him.
al-Walid replied: And what can I possibly say? There is not a
single man who is more knowledgable of poetry or prose than
I, or even that of the Jinn, and by Allah, what he says bears no
resemblance to these things. By Allah, what he says has a
sweetness to it, and a charm upon it; the highest part of it is
fruitful and the lowest part of it is gushing forth with bounty; it
dominates and cannot be dominated, and it crushes all that is
under it."
[Reported by al-Hakim in 'al-Mustadrak' (2/506-507) and at-Tabari in 'Jami' al-Bayan' (29/156), and it is
authentic]

Palindrome 2: They all float, each in an
orbit... (Yasin 36:40)

It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day.
They all float, each in an orbit. [Yasin 36:40]

And all in swimming they (are) floating [in orbit]

NOTE: See the letters Orbitting/floating around the letter Ya

In this ayah Allah (SWT) is speaking about how the sun and the moon are in
orbit. Look at the letters in red, brown and green; they are all floating around
the letter in orange. The next word begins with the letter ya [YaSbah], which is
referring to Floating (TaSbeeh is from the same root). SubhanAllah!

The letters are Floating around one another, since the concept being
discussed is Orbit. Only the speech of Allah can be perfect in style and content!

Palindrome 1: And your Lord magnify (al
Mudatthir 74:3)

[wa Rabaka Fa Kabir]
(focus on the consonants only in the arabic language)
And your Lord (Allah) magnify! [so magnify your Lord]

[Quran Surah Mudatthir 74:3]
What is a Palindrome?
A word or phrase that reads the same backward as forward.

Some points to add to this that were mentioned in the seminar:
1) It was spoken and the one who spoke it was illiterate. Its pretty hard to come up with
a palindrome when you sit down and work it out, yet it might be possible, but to speak it
out of the blue -> you only get one shot at getting it right because what is being is said is
memorized instantly and written down. You cant go back and modify it. Plus the speaker
himself, the Messenger (saw), is illiterate so its not like he could have sat down before
hand and worked through it.
2) It was recited together with the verses before and after it. I.e. its right in
the middle of a passage and the fact that the verse being a palindrome fits so
well in the context of whats being said and doesnt take anything away from
the coherency and meaning.
3) It was unknown at the time but discovered later by linguistic scholars who
spent their time looking through the Quran for such aspects of linguistic
excellence. Its not like the Prophet (saw) went around and said look, this
verse has a palindrome. Its just there.

We hurl the truth against falsehood...
(Anbiya 21:18)
Truth vs Falsehood:

Allah depicts an extremely visual image of truth against falsehood in the Qur'an;

We hurl the truth against falsehood (like a spear/arrow/rock), and the truth
bashes its skull in. [Surah Anbiya 21:18]

So falsehood is trying to run away from the truth, while the truth is attacking
because of its greater strength. Then the skull of falsehood is smashed (and that
is the strongest bone in the body).

And Jaheem will be Pulled out for those
who See. (al Naazi'aat 79:36)
Asalaam alaikum waRahmatulah waBarakatuh

wa burrizatil jaheemu li man yaRaa

And Hell (Jaheem) will be pulled out for those who See.

Barraza - Tabreez - pull something out of of somewhere and place it
infront of you.

Jaheem - Jahama - the stare of a beast when it is about to attack it's
prey.
Similarly a fire which is so intense that it looks as if it is staring at you
fiercely and is about to jump on you.

The disbeliever skeptics would say they won't believe in hell till they see it.
So now they will on Judgment Day - but it will be too late then to turn back.

So hell is staring at them with hungry eyes (Jaheem). And they are
staring at it (yaRa) out of fear.

Then perhaps [La'alla] you would kill
yourself through grief over them.. (al
Kahf 18:6)
al-Kahf 18:6:

fa la'allaka baakhi'un nafsika 'alaa aathaarihim, in lam yu'minoo bi
haadha al hadeethi asafa

Then perhaps [La'alla] you would kill yourself through grief
over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this
message, [and] out of sorrow.

Definition:

The word La'alla has a meaning of 'Perhaps'.

However, it has with it a feeling of: Fear and Hope.

So Perhaps (fearfully and hopefully) you would kill yourself through
grief...

So this ayah has 2 implications (through the word "La'ala"):

1 - (It is) FEARED (by the believers) that you will kill yourself in grief...

2 - (The disbelievers) HOPE that you will kill yourself in grief, because they
do not believe in this message. (is the hope of the disbelievers in wanting
Allah's Messenger to die so the message is given up and ended
completely.)

O my son! Embark with us.. [Hud 11:42]

So it (the ship) sailed with them amidst the waves like mountains,
and Nooh called out to his son, who had separated himself, O my son!
Embark with us and do not be with the disbelievers.
[Hud 11:42]

is the only place in the Quran where the letter ba () is
mudgham (merged in recitation) with a meem ().

Shaykh Muhammad Husayn Yaqub mentions something interesting
about this thus:
,
- :

- !
- ,
,

Summary: There is Idgham of ba and meem as if Nuh/Noah
(`alayhisalam upon him be peace) is saying; Come and hold fast
to us so that we can be one body.

(This is based on the knowledge that Idgham by definition is inclusion
[a type of merging the recitation] of one letter into the other such that
they become one letter mushaddad).

Also, there is omission of a letter (ba) and this suggests rapidity and
fast momentum.

Miracle Sounds [Onomatopoeia] in al-
Quran.
Miracle Sounds [Onomatopoeia] in al-Quran.

The use of delicate sounds.. exhibits the Qurans ability to express meaning
and images via the sound of its text:

1 The Still Night..

wallayli izaa sajaa..
And by the Night when it is still.. [Qur'an 93: 2]
The way the Quran uses the word when it is still produces a tranquil tone
and a smooth sound. This indicates thepeace, stillness and serenity that night
time provides.

2 The Striking of Rocks to Produce Sparks:
The Quran also uses sound to build intense images, for example,

FaalmooriyaatiQad-han
And the producers of sparks striking [Qur'an 100: 2] (really referring to
war horses galloping and their hooves striking rocks to produce sparks [refer to the
tafseers on this verse])
The word for sparks striking, Qad-han, that is used here emits a sound that
develops the sense of this image, the proximity of the Arabic letters Qa
striking the daal and rebounding the ha is responsible for this sound.

3 Splattering and Scattering..
In another example,:

Waanzalna mina almusiraati maaan thajjaja

And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water.[Naba' 78:14]
The use of the wordthjjj in this verse, with its series of vowels emits a sound of
splattering and scattering, which expresses the image of the drama.
For example in the verse below the Quran uses words that imitate the sound
they denote. This rhetorical device called Onomatopoeia is widely used
throughout the Quranic discourse.

4 Saaaakhah..the loud deafening noise.

Fa-itha jaaati-ssaaakhah

But when there comes the Deafening Blast. [Abasa 80:33]
The word for deafening noise, alssaakhah, chosen here produces a
sound eluding to its meaning.

The Arabic letters kha connected with a ta [marboota = a 'ha' sound]
emanate harsh sounds which conform to the meaning of the text.

5 - The Waswasa Whispering..

FaWasswassa ilayhi-shaytaan.. [Ta-Ha 20:120]
So Satan whispered to him [Adam]

The word Wasswassa = Repeated Whispering which is targetted at someone, paused,
and then comes back again.
The word is repeated twice [Wass-Wassa] because satans whispering is
targetted at a person to make them doubt/fear/get confused etc. then he
will go away and come back again to whisper again another time
[Also See Surah al-Naas 114.]

Added 23/1/2011
6 A Moan / Sigh for Destruction Haa

yaa laytaHaa kaanati-l QaaDiyah

O I wish (Haa heavy sigh) had it been (my) Ending.. [Haaqqah 69:27]
7 Destruction Damdama! Pounding:

fa damdama alayhim Rabbuhum bi dhanbihim fa sawwaahaa
So Pounded [damdama] upon them their Master (because of their sin), so He
levelled them (to the ground). (Shams 91:14)

The word Damdama = to pound something on the ground so much so that it becomes flat and one with the ground. So the
people of Thamud were flattened into the ground because of their opposition to Allah and their oppression of His believing
slaves.
The utilisation of sounds in the Quran also play a rhetorical role.
Sounds in the Quran are employed to increase the effect of its
message. The Arabic language has many words for a single meaning, but
yet the Quran selects and arranges the words to portray the intended
meaning in addition to create sounds to conform to the image, scene
and message the book conveys. This is not only done by selecting the
right words but also arranging them in a specific way to develop sounds
and rhythms. Just by touching upon a few simple examples it can be
seen why Pickthall was lead to believe that the Quran had an
inimitable symphony.

A famous Orientalist Arberry comments on his personal experience with
the rhythm of the Quran:

Whenever I hear the Quran chanted, it is as though I am listening to
Music, underneath the flowing melody there is sounding insistent
beat of a drum, it is like the beating of my heart.
Arthur J. Arberry. 1964.The Koran Interpreted. Oxford University Press

Refer to the following Aayaat/verses for more Onomatopoeias in the Quran.

[al Waqi'ah 56:4], [Nazi'at 79:6-7], [Ta-Ha 20:120], [Zalzala 99:1].

There are more, and I will add them inshaa Allah if I am able to find them.
Maybe you can find more?

How to Extract Gems from the Qur'an
like Nouman Ali Khan! (Part 2)
Asalaamu alaykum waRahmatullahi waBarakaatuh

Step 2: Sentence Structure:- Placement of words in an ayah:

a - Understand the Main Meaning of the the Ayah.

b - Look for the main Direct Targetted Object [maf'ool bihi - the one
to who something is being 'done' to] in the Ayah's discussion and look
at the Location of the words surrounding it to see their
relationship with that Main Object.

[Part of Balaaghah - Rhetoric - finding out the reasons why words are
sequenced in a certain order.*]

I.e. Surah Ahzaab 33:24 -

(Ahzaab 33:24)

That Allah may reward the truthful for their truth and punish
the hypocrites if He wills or accept their repentance. Indeed,
Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.

Point #1:
See how; Allah mentions His Name near the Saadiqeen
[truthful], yet He does not mention His Name near the
hypocrites.

This is done because Allah is close to the Saadiqeen [truthful to
themselves and truthful to Allah] so He mentions His
closeness to them by mentioning His Name next to them, and is
angry with the hypocrites, so He does not mention His Name
near the hypocrites [i.e. He is distant from them].
Point #2:

But to give hope to those who have hypocrisy in their hearts,
He mentions that the hypocrite can still reach that closeness
toAllah, and that can only be reached by approaching His
Forgiveness and Mercy.

He pictures this by placing His Names of Mercy (Ghafoor &
Raheem) next to the Name; Allah, so the hypocrite will only get
closer to Allah by approaching His Forgiveness & Mercy.

Point #1 is used many times in the Quran, sometimes in
selected aayaat/verses [like above], sometimes in whole
Surahs i.e. in Surah Tariq, Allah does not even mention His
Name once in the whole Surah, due to His Anger and distance
against the rejectors/disbelievers.
Sentence Tajweed Sound Gems:

Look for;
- Sound (Onamatopeia) effects,
- Visual effects (i.e. Low note letters like Daad = a heavy/sluggish
meaning), or even
- Flow of the ayah's recital
- and other sounds produced through Tajweed sounds, including; how
they impact the;
Tajweed Sounds

If we study the arts of Tajweed, we see that there are some rules you
have to learn to recite the Quran well.

Ikhfaa:

The Ikhfaa rule is commonly called the Nasal sound rule wherein
you dont recite the letter Nun (you dont touch your tongue on the
top roof of your inner mouth) before certain letters, but instead you
almost touch it and the sound that comes out of your nose and mouth
makes a nasal sound - causing the sound of the recitation to flow
instead of abrupt pauses (which would happen if you fully pronounced
the letter Nun.) This flow in recitation will give a smooth feeling to
the listener, as if youre flying on air or floating over water. So that
when the following ayah is recited, it is recited smoothly, as if you are
gliding;

Have you not considered how Allah presents an example,
[making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly
fixed and its branches [high] in the sky? [Quran 14:24]

Comparison: On the other hand, when we see the description being
mentioned of a tree representing disbelief, we see there is no Ikhfaa
rule applied, and we also hear difficult to pronounce letters
(like Daad) being used. This means the letter Nun and other
difficult to pronounce letters will be pronounced alot in this ayah,
which causes abrupt STOPS in the flow of the Ayah. This continuous
abrupt stopping in the recitation makes you feel sluggish, as if you
are continuously falling on your face making you feel -through
hearing the recitation- that disbelief is continuously heavy and hard
upon you.

And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted
from the surface of the earth, not having any stability. [Quran
14:26]

In Step 3 - The Location of an Ayah within a Passage of
Discussion

Rukoo ': Abdul Nasir Jangda says that the Rukoo'aat (sub sections
within a surah) you find in copies of the Qur'an are divided by scholars
based on the different subjects within a surah. So take advantage of
these when studying different passages within surahs' of the Qur'an.

a - Step no.2 is often related to Step no.3:

The location of an Ayah may be based on;

i - the context of the whole passage (Rukoo').
ii - Or even based on the Theme of the entire surah.

Example:

And kill not
your children
out of poverty,
We provide you
and them.
(Anam 6:151)

And kill not your children for fear [of] poverty. We provide
them and you.
(Israa 17:31)

It seems like its the same thing. But its not;

In surah al Anam: it is describing when Poverty already exists -
Who are you worried about feeding in that moment the most? =
Yourself. So Allah tells us that He will provide for YOU and them.

In surah al Isra: - there is a Future-Fear of Poverty being depicted.
People may be able to feed themselves, but they fear for the providing
of their children.

So Allah mentions that He will Provide for THEM [the children], since
that is the persons main worry.

b - the Location of an Ayah and its content is important. The
following examples will explain how;

i - Surah al Baqarah has 286 aayaat within it, and tells us how to be
the best nation. If we divide that (286) by two, we get the number
143.

The exact MIDDLE ayah of Surah al Baqarah is 2:143. And in that
ayah, Allah tells us;

And like that, We have made you a MIDDLE (wasaTan) nation...

ii - Surah al Haqqah - Order of words gradually going Upwards in
location:

i.e. (1) Earth > (2) mountains > (3) sky > (4) > angels, (5) >
Throne ('Arsh), (6) - Our Lord Allah (see Haqqah 69: 13-16)

.

Then when the Horn is blown with one blast. And the (1) earth and
the (2) mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow - Then on that
Day, the Resurrection will occur,

And the (3) heaven/sky will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.

And the (4) angels are at its edges. And there will bear the (5)
Throne of your (6) Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them (i.e.
angels)].

In Step 4 - See how all the Passages are Different yet how they
all Connect to work Together to produce 'Themes':

This can be done through;

- Finding out when a Passage of Discussion has finished.

Which can be figured through seeing; a change of Theme in i.e.

- Rhyme,
- Word Patterns or
- changes in Sentence structure,
- Change in topic of Discussion, or Change in Rukoo' etc.

Example :

In surah al Haqqah (69: 1-32) - all of the words end in with a letter
'ha' [ ]

This Repeated pattern is sustained from Aayaat 1-32 in surah al
Haqqah. And when the Rhyme pattern changes, it's because the topic
of discussion has changed.

In Surah al Haqqah - from ayah 1 - 32 - Judgment Day and the Next
Life is being discussed in great detail.

The last letter and tune of the surah changes from ayah 33 onwards.
So we know that a new topic is being discussed in the surah now -
which depicts what actions one should have done to be saved from the
Punishment of the Hellfire.

The letter 'ha' has stopped being used (because that made you feel
hopeless), yet gentle letters are still not being used, rather 'extended'
sounds like ('ADheeem, Miskeeen, Hameeem, etc. are being used to
show that you are still blameworthy and not saved from the
punishment, until you remove this blame off yourself by doing the
good actions mentioned.)

Once you have differentiated between the Different Passages in the
surah, you have to work out and see how all these Passages are
Related to each other = Theme of the surah.

Step 5 - Produce a Conclusion, which is derived by finding out;
the Theme, Message, & Placement of the Surah in the Qur'an.

By;
- studying points 1-4 in depth,
- studying the Cause for Revelation of a Surah and it's Aayaat [aSbaab
al Nuzool]
- and by studying the Classical Linguistic tafaseer,

You will be able to find out the Main Message of a surah and its Main
Theme which connects all its; words, aayaat, passages
[Rukoo'aat], and overall structure together. This Theme is usually
one main lesson or Word you can use to define the entire message of
the Surah.

Examples :

If you read Surah al Mutaffifeen (83) - you will see from the
beginning till end that Allah criticizes those who are 'Greedy and
Sly characters'.

"Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.
But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.
...
And when they (the disbelievers) passed by them (the believers), they
would exchange sarcastic eye movements. "

These aayaat show that this surah strongly focuses on the evil of those
who are of a Greedy and Sly nature.

Surah InShiqaaq (84) - has a Theme of Inevitability;

Shaq is irreversible. Once the sky is torn/ripped it cannot be back
to normal again like before its tearing.
The inevitable the point of no return the conclusion of the sky we
have above us is that it will be torn and will never return to its normal
state after that.

Other forms of 'the point of no return' are implied in the surah, i.e. the
Earth being spread out completely, the Earth spitting out all that it
contains within it, etc.

Surah Burooj (85) - has a Theme of 'Possession';

The Sky possessing the burooj (stellar stars).
The Fire possessing the fuel (which burns the believers in this life,
and the disbelievers in the next life.)
The Rabb/Lord possessing the Arsh Mighty throne.

Etc.

How to Extract Gems from the Qur'an
like Nouman Ali Khan! (Part 1)
Asalaamu alaykum waRahmatullahi waBarakaatuh

How to Extract Gems from the Qur'an like
Nouman Ali Khan!

Introduction :

Alot of us have heard the beautiful gems Nouman Ali Khan gives in his
tafseer sessions. Whenever I'd take notes of them tafseer sessions (at
LinguisticMiracle.com), I used to wish I could do just what he did next
time I read the Qur'an.

After some time, I started hearing Arabs who had alot of experience
with the Qur'an praising his tafseer sessions too. They said the
tafaseer were extremely powerful and in some ways unmatched
(because he merged the different sciences of tafseer into one
combined study.)

So I prayed to Allah to grant me the ability to understand Qur'anic
Arabic, and within a small period of time - I was able to grasp the
meaning of Qur'an text and its linguistic beauty. So whenever I'd open
the copy of the Qur'an, I could feel the subtle, yet powerful meanings
Allah was conveying to us.

So I thought to myself, why not share with you a brief - yet detailed -
step by step method on how to extract the gems from Qur'an yourself?
Bi-idhnillah.

Layout:

I've layed this structure out similar to how Nouman Ali Khan and Abdul
Nasir Jangda give their tafaseer. They get the entire surah, and break
it down into aayaat, and from each ayah - they break it down word for
word. This is the focus of outline, and I have divided it into 5 steps.
Each step works its way up from a small scale to a larger scale.

After knowing the Arabic language. We can find gems through looking
at;

The Basic Layout by which you Extract Gems from the Qur'an:

Step 1 - Definitions of words through their pure roots, and the types of
words used i.e. their (verb, or noun) pattern style etc.
Step 2 - Placement of words in an ayah. (Balaaghah)
Step 3 - Placement of aayaat in a passage/'paragraph' [Rukoo'] of
discussion.
Step 4 - How all the different passages work together = Theme;
Step 5 - To produce a Conclusion of the surah, which is derived by
finding out the common Theme and overall main Message in the surah.
(through steps 1-4)

Step 1 - Focus on Words and their Power:

Look at definitions of words through their pure roots, and the types of
words used i.e. their pattern style (verb patterns, Rhymes,
Palindromes etc.), the images the words portray, the sounds they
make etc.

How you can do this;

Focus on the Literary Devices :

- Word Patterns

- Verb patterns; what state are they in? If they are in Faa'il (Doer)
form - imagine the object is a living object 'Doing' that action.

I.e. Allah says the Final Hour is Aaatiyah (Coming) [ Taha 20:15] - the
Faa'il (Doer) form shows a picture of the Hour actively coming (as if it
is walking and approaching us).

I.e. Allah tells us about the fruits of Jannah (Paradise), that they are
"daaniyah" [meaning: "close"] (Haqqah 69:23). But the word is in
Faa'il (Doer) form, so some scholars even said that the Faa'il form
shows that the tree itself Does this, it 'Comes Close' to the
person to feed him its fruit.),

- Meanings

1 - Look at the Word used, its Root meaning. Its different Usages in;

i - Different contexts of classical texts (i.e. pre-islamic arabic
poetry/speeches.)
ii - Different contexts in Qur'an
iii - Different explanations in ahadeeth.
iv - or its Different meanings/usages mentioned in the Dictionaries &
Lexicons.

I.e. Allah tells us about Shaytaan, and Allah tells us the promise he
made. Look at the word used, and its root implication;

I will misguide them all, except the muKhliSeen ( ) (see
definitionof root: Kh-lam-Sad ( ) [(Surah Hijr 15: 39-40)] =

He will misguide all of us except the;

i) Sincere (IkhlaaS) slaves,
ii) (Allah's) Pure (KhaaliS) slaves [who are pure from Shirk and Sins),
iii) Freed & Liberated slaves:
a Those who Allah has chosen to be saved by His eternal knowledge.
b Who Allah will Free, liberate from the Hellfire on Judgment Day by
His Mercy.

A really good Resource for Meanings is ejtaal.net - the Arabic Almanac dictionary. You simply type in the root
letters in Phonetic English, and the Results for 3 main dictionaries (Hans Wehr, Lanes Lexicon and Hava) come up
in 2seconds! *works on smartphones too, is downloadable, and free alhamdulillah!*

2 - Look at the Harf* word used, and try to look at it from a Literal,
Picturesque perspective:

*Harf (Huroof) words are those small words which 'connect' a sentence together.

I.e. A word like "Fee" (meaning; "In"), or 'Alaa (meaning; 'Upon'), Ilaa (meaning;
'To'). Words like these can be looked at from a literal perspective to get more impact
to the meanings of a sentence.

Example:

a - Allah tells us that the disbelievers are FEE (IN) - Ghuroor (Deception). (see
surah Mulk 67:20).

If we look at the word 'FEE' [meaning; 'In'] literally, it implies that the disbelievers
are Literally engulfed in a picturesque object called Deception. So if they are
engulfed in that, wherever they will look - they will always be surrounded by that
Deception object.

b - If we look at the word 'Ilaa' [meaning; 'To'] (in surah al Baqarah 2:257) - we
see that the devils are pulling the people out of the light (of the fitrah [natural
disposition humans are born with of belief in 1 Creator]), and dragging them 'To' the
Darknesses of disbelief and oppression.

c - If we look at the word 'Alaa [meaning; 'Upon'] we can imagine someone being
ON TOP of what is being described, as if someone is sitting ON TOP of a train.

So imagine there is a Train called 'Manners', Allah describes His Messenger as being
'Alaa [Upon] Constantly EXCELLENT and unmatched Character and High Morals (in
surah Qalam 68:4).

So we can then imagine someone Upon EXCELLENT manners as being UPON a train
of Excellent Manners, so that wherever the train of perfect manners goes, that
person will always be upon it and following it in goodness.

3 - Look at the Word used, and look for Harf* Words Similar to it, and
then wonder why this one was used instead of The others.

*Harf (Huroof) words are those small words which 'connect' a sentence together.

I.e. Allah told Adam;

And do not approach (

)Haadhi*hi al-shajarah - THIS tree. (al

A'raf 7:19)

By Allah telling Adam not to approach 'THIS' tree, it implied thatTHIS
Tree was near to where Adam lived.

If Allah said to Adam - Do not approach; 'tilka' ( ) meaning 'That'
[feminine form of dhalika ( ) [= That]]Tree (shajarah), it would
imply the tree was FAR from where Adam lived in the Gardens of
Eden.

This one word 'This' (haadhihi ) shows that Allah tested Adam by
placing the forbidden tree close to where he lived in the Gardens. Just
like when we have desires close to us and we are tested by them.

4 - Look at the Word used, and look for Near Synonyms Similar to it,
and then Reflect why this one was used instead of The others.

I.e.

Surely Allah is Ni'im (favourable) with what He advises you with...
(Quran al Nisa 4:58)

Allah could have used many words to describe that He has been
favourable to us by advising us to do good things.

Other words for ' Favour' include;

FaDl ( ) = Means for something to be more in quantity than what
is fair or expected. (i.e. I ask you for $1 and you give me $20 as a
FaDl from you.) (see Quran al Baqarah 2:253)

Mann ( ) = Favor or goodness. To remind another of ones favor and
to use it to impose oneself on another. It is also used for a heavy
weight. (see Quran aal Imran 3:164)

aHsana ( ) = Is any commendable deed whether it has to do with
the self or another. (see Quran Yusuf 12:100)

However, Allah chose to use another word instead; Ni'im ( ) - which
means; Everything that fulfills a need and becomesa source of
happiness.

Ni'm also comes from a similar word meaning; Nu'oomah ( ) =
'softness'

So Allah specifically chose this word to tell us that He is;

1 - Favourable (most common translation of Ni'm is 'favour') with
what He advises us.
2 - (He is) Fulfilling a need for us (by advising us) so we gain
happiness.
3 - (He is) Being 'Soft' with us in what He advises us with. (He could
have made the rules harder than needed [like the nations before us],
but He was Merciful in His Law to us.)

Near Synonyms - Booklet created by Nouman Ali Khan - Download Free:
http://ia600705.us.archive.org/12/items/BayyinahE-bookGemsCollection-Linguisticmiracle.com/near-synonyms-
nouman-ali-khan-muslimmattersorg.pdf

A good Arabic Reference is: MutaRaadifaat ul-Qur'an - by Imam Raghib al Isfahani (it is translated in Urdu also
by Abdul Rahman al Kilaani (author of Mutaraadifaatul Quran in Urdu).)
(see a text discussion about it Online by Nouman Ali Khan)

5 - Look at the Word used, and consider the Antonym (Opposite [-]
meaning word) to appreciate the power of the Negativity in
comparison to its Positive [+] meaning.)

I.e. (

) Inna sa'yukum la shatta - Surely your travelling is

no doubt Diverse. (Quran Layl 92:4)

Shatta ( ) (means 'shatter' [divide]). But there are alot of words
tomean 'divide' in arabic.

So what is this words Opposite? It is "Allafa [ ] (Put together
something divided as one united whole)

So we see that this ayah doesn't just mean that our (mankind's) sa'ee (walking fast
= travelling [to the next life]) is divided, rather - it means - our [mankinds]
travelling was 1 and united once (Allafa) [when all people followed the guidance
given to Adam], and now over time it has shattered (like a glass breaks/shatters)
and now we are dispersing/shattering (like that breaking glass) into different
directions [shatta]. (some travelling and doing deeds of the people of hell, and
others travelling and doing deeds of the people of Paradise.)

- Rhyme patterns

- Look for common and Repeated patterns in the surah.

Example : In surah al Haqqah (69: 1-32) - all of the words end in
with a letter 'ha' [ ] which implies;

- Rhyme (which builds up consistency and suspense upto the Ayah
when the Rhyme stops)
- implying Severity when Recited (in accordance with the Severe and
Violent sound produced from inside your body when pronouncing the
letter 'ha' [ ], and that sound producing the violent punishments
being portrayed in the Theme of surah al Haqqah).

This Repeated pattern is sustained from Aayaat 1-12 in surah al
Haqqah. And when the Rhyme pattern changes, it's because the topic
of discussion has changed.

Like Animals about to be Slaughtered..

The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the
forelocks and the feet.

[ar-Rahman 55:41]

In many cultures, the animals which are about to be slaughtered are marked, so the one
who sacrifices them can recognise which one needs to be killed.

The disbeliever acted like an animal in this life (he just; ate, drank and had
children and nothing more.),
On Judgment day - he is marked by a disgusting ugly face with no light on it.
As if it has been stained in dirt. [see surah Abasa 80:41]. This is the mark on his
face - to show that he is an ungrateful slave to Allah.

When it is the turn of that animal to be slaughtered - his feet will be tied up,
and it will be gripped by the feet and the forelock (hair on the forehead) to the
place of his sacrifice.

The disbeliever when about to be thrown into the hellfire will have his feet tied up, and
he will be gripped/seized by the feet and the forelock hair...

And thrown into his destruction... except the animal dies, and the disbeliever always
faces death in hell, but never dies...

Scientific Miracle - the Sperm (Surah
Qiyamah 75:37)

Scientific Miracle - the Sperm

Had he not [the human] been a sperm from
Maniyin yuMNaa?

[Quran Qiyamah 75:37]

Maniy and Yamnaa

are derived from 'MaN' .

1st General Meaning:
Maniy means 'Semen.'
yaMNaa means 'to Eject'.

[ ] istaMNaa = he Ejaculated the semen.

2nd Meaning: Maniy - (darbu al shay'a) =
Striking/hitting/Penetrating something.

3rd Meaning:

MaNa [ ] = (he) Cut it.

= (QaTa'ah [ ]) (due to the meaning of 'striking and penetration'
and in effect - Cutting.)

We see the following Implications can be found from the above
definitions of the words MaNy/yuMNa:

1 - Semen
2 - Emitted / Ejected.
3 - Striking / Hitting. (Darb)
4 - Cutting (QaTa'ah)

If we use the definitions from above, we see the following;

The male Nutfah (sperm) is;

1 - Emitted / Ejected
2 - Strikes
3 - and Cuts.

Had he not been a sperm from Maniyin yuMNaa [Ejected Semen-
which Penetrates, Strikes, and Cuts."]

Image: Sperm - Striking, Penetrating and Cutting into the Egg during Fertilisation

Surah Aadiyaat [War-Horse] (100) -
Movie Effects!
Surah Aadiyaat [War-Horse] (100):

The Trailer of an Epic Scene! But it has a conclusion..

NOTE: Read the parts in colour if you want to read through it quickly.

Ayah 1:

Allah is swearing by;

'Aadiyaa t- Adiy - to have animosity.

This word implies someone/something running forward in battle in animosity.
They dont look left or right - they charge ahead, Aiming to attack the one in
direct focus.

For the Arab listening to this, it's like a trailer or preview to a War. An attack in
battle.

aadiyAAT (feminine) = refers to female war horses (jam'u qilla [small plural];
less than 10 racing in a group pack). These were preferred by the arabs in
warfare because they are quicker and more agile.

Aadiyaat (active participle/ism faa'il) = finally getting to do what it was made
to do.

Al Baydawi says: - these horses are designed to be used in battle. (The same
way that fast car parked up in the parking lot is not made to be driven, but to
be driven/revved really fast to its highest potential.)

Ash-Shawkani - aadiyaat plural of aadiya - that which is moving at speed
because of animosity.

Dabhan - al Baydawi said: the H at the end describes the panting of
the war horse in its aggression. The horse is going as fast as it can towards the
enemy.

Dabhan - being used at the end as an emphasis without the horse taking a
break.

The linguists say that dabh is not normally used for horses, its secondarily
used for horses but originally used for wolves.

So the image is of wolf styled war horses racing in a grouped pack to overpower
an enemy to devour them, with a certainty that it will destroy them (since
wolves only hunt that which they are sure they can overpower). All this is seen
through the word dabh.

'Aadiyaat - a group that is adamant - ready to pillage and destroy an
opposition.

Ayah 2:

fal mooriyaat qadha.

al Mooriyaat - [ism faa'il pl. Feminine] horses causing sparks to fly.

Mooriyaat comes from Eeraa' - adjective - causing sparks to fly.

Eeraa' implies the rubbing of two things against each other (i.e. Rocks, wood,
dry rough materials), and a fire is sparked and lit. This is eeraa.

So Allah is saying that these horses create sparks of fire. This war horse has
metal hoofs which strike against rocks, causing sparks to fly - in effect they're
almost leaving a trail of fire behind them as they speed ahead!

What Amazing imagery!

Qadh

- a violent strike which is really powerful. Every hoof strike is very

very loud and violent.

So imagine the scene; a pack of less than 10 horses, speeding through the
desert, panting heavily without stop, a trail of sparks behind them, violent
strikes of galloping, bandits riding on top without fear, ready to attack the
adversary...

Ayah 3:

moogheeraat - these horses take their riders right on top of their enemy in
ambush.

from Ighaarah - to ambush, attack or be right on top of.

In the previous ayah; these horses were targetting. In this ayah - they have
reached right on top of the enemy, ready to pounce and attack.

By using the word ighaarah - it literally depicts the image of the rider of the
horse, aswell as the horse - literally hovering over the enemy i.e. He has a
spear in his hand - pointing it down at the enemy.

Igharah - also implies to attack an enemy, rob them secretly, or pillage and
kill.

Subhan - they ambushed the enemy in the morning time.

this surah is referring to bandits who would raid tribes in the early morning.

subh - you want the enemy to know your presence by coming in the morning.
Just like the wolf doesnt fear to hunt his prey in the open.

Ayah 4:

Now in the surah, there is a Transition from nouns [objects] (i.e.Adiyaat,
mugheeraat etc.) to verbs [doing words] - implying actions have intensified.

fa atharNA (Noon an-niswa) -FEMININE plural - they, the horses (aadiyAAT)
cause - Athar(to rise). To Rise what?

Naq'a - dust.

Naq'a = when something moves fast and a trail of dust is left behind in the air.

Bihi can either refer to;

bihi- makaan (location) - i.e. The battle enrages and there is dust floating
around everywhere so nothing can be seen there.

bihi (the dust) - even though its wet, (wet) dust still rises due to the intensity
of attack and combat.

Ayah 5 :

fa wasaTna bihi jam'a.

fa - then

wasatNA (Feminine plural) = penetrate through the middle.

So in this ambush - the bandits are taking advantage of this rising dust which is
blinding - through which they penetrate through the centre to attack.

Why is this so powerful and full of risks?

1 - The people who see the bandits and war horses prepare to be
attacked, so they get ready with their spears to fight back. So bandits
should actually be cautious of this, but they don't fear - they pierce
through anyway.

2 - They all went into the heart of the enemy. None of them stayed
behind. The whole wolf pack attacked the enemy without betraying
each other.

3 - They targetted the enemy, whilst everyone is in a state of
temporary blindness - including themselves.

The scene can also be seen of them attacking an army, with the enemy having many rows
in battle. But these bandit warriors almost form a Spearhead Effect - so they pierce
through each row and reach the heart of the army to cause the most damage.

Jam'a = altogether. This can refer to the bandits as united. Or it can even
refer to the enemy and his armyaltogether.

So these wolf warriors have pierced through the enemy ranks - reaching the
centre - with the enemy surrounding them from all sides.

What happens next!? This is exactly what Allah wanted the listener to wonder.

The attention level has reached its peak.. So Allah tells us what He wanted to
say all along;

Ayah 6:

inal insaan li Rabbihi laKanood.

The Arab listener loved horses:
- He especially loved War horses.
- He especially loved female War horses.
- He especially loved female War horses that would risk their life for their
masters.
These people would make so much poetry about their horses, about their horses strength,
speed, loyalty and sacrifice.

These horses would be the first to get hurt in battle by spears, yet it would still stay
loyal by staying firm in battle for its master, without running away - even till death.

Allah says;

No doubt the human being is truly extremely Ungrateful to his Master.

The human is truly disloyal to his Master, for sure.

And indeed, he [the human] is to that [his ungratefulness] a
witness. (Quran 100:7)

The listener just a few seconds ago was imagining himself riding the war horse
and how loyal she was to him.. Then suddenly he is given a wake up call - YOU
are the slave, and you have a Master, to whom you are not loyal to at all.

So why aren't you loyal and obedient to Him?

His mother is Hell.. (al Qaari'ah 101:8)
His mother is Hell..

But as for him whose balance (of good deeds on Judgment Day) will be
light... [Quran al Qaari'ah 101:8]

Then;

Ummuhu hawiyah; His mother is the deep cannion in hell.

UmmuHu [His Mother] = Mother = Hell is his Mother (ummuhu
haawiyah). A child runs towards who in this worldly life? His mother.

Who wants to run towards the hellfire? Nobody. But hell is now their
mother - who their body will run and fall to at speed.

A mother wraps herself around her child, to protect it, and she doesn't
let it go. And when the mother is carrying the baby in pregnancy, the
baby is protected inside of her and it cannot come out of her.

The person is trapped in this mother of a hell, who;

- holds him tightly,

-who does not let him escape her grip.

- This is the hellfire which Allah has described for those who disbelieve and
oppose God's guidance.

Whoever's scale of good deeds is light, His mother is a cannion in hell..

And what will tell you who she is? Naarun Haamiyah! [An Intense Fire!]
(Quran 101:11)

And Jaheem [Hell] will be Pulled out for
those to See.. (Naz'iat 79:36)
And Jaheem [Hell] will be Pulled out for those to
See..

wa burrizat -il Jaheemu li man yaRaa

[Quran Nazi'at 79:36]

Common Translation:

And Hell (Jaheem) will be pulled out for those who See (i.e. the disbelievers,
sinners etc.)

Arabic Accurate translation:

Barraza - Tabreez - pull something out of of somewhere and place it infront of
you.

Jaheem - Jahama - the stare of a beast when it is about to attack it's prey.

Similarly a fire which is so intense that it looks as if it is staring at you fiercely
and is about to jump on you.

The disbeliever skeptics would say they won't believe in hell till they see it.
So now they will see it on Judgment Day - but it will be too late then to turn
back and mend their ways.

So hell is staring at them with hungry eyes (Jaheem - the stare of a beast when
about to pounce on its prey). And they are staring at it back (yaRa) out of fear.

= And the Hell (which his Ready to Pounce on you) will be Pulled out and
placed infront, for the ones [disbelievers, criminals, sinners etc.] to see.

Replace the word Sky with Man, and
Earth with Woman...
Replace the word Sky with Man, and Earth with
Woman...

In Surah Shams (91), Allah took an Oath by the Sky (samaa') and the Earth;

And [by] the sky and He who constructed it. And [by] the earth and He
who spread it out.

(Quran ash-Shams 91: 5-6)

In this surah [al Layl (92)], Allah swears by the One who made the Male and
Female;

And [by] He [Allah] who created the male and female,

(surah al Layl 92:3)

The Similarities in their Relationship with each other:

Allah is making a parallel and comparison between the sky and earth, just like
He is making a parallel between the male and the female.

The sky and Earth are different in their characteristics - but they work
together to produce vegetation, fruits and plants of benefit - for life to
continue.

Similarly, the male and female are different in their characteristics - but they
work together to produce children - for life to continue.

Impregnation:

The sky sends down water, which penetrates through the Earth and
impregnates it.

The liquid water then penetrates the seed - giving it life so it grows gradually,
and finally the seed is born - coming out of the mother Earth. This newborn
plant then continues to grow healthily until it reaches its peak age. This plant
then either benefits humanity, or it does not.

Its seeds spread for future generations to be born.

Then as time passes - it gradually withers away, becomes wrinkly, and dies.

Now Replace the word Plant with Human in the above Paragraph. And replace
the word Sky with father, and Earth with Mother.

Do you notice similarities between the world around you, and your own
creation?

Your Ressurection:

And among His Signs (in this), that you see the earth barren and still, but when
We send down water (rain) to it, it is stirred to life and growth (of
vegetations).

Surely, He Who gives it life, surely, (He) is Able to give life to the dead (on
the Day of Resurrection). Indeed! He is Able to do all things.

Palindromes in the Qur'an ((a word or
phrase that reads the same backward as
forward) )
Palindrome Definition: (a word or phrase that reads the same backward as forward)
(Source)

Palindrome #1:

And all in floating they (are) orbiting.

[Quran Yasin 36:40]

NOTE: See the letters Orbitting/floating around the letter 'Ya'

In this ayah Allah is speaking about how the sun and the moon are in orbit. Look at the
letters in red, blue and green; they are all floating around the letter in orange. The next
word begins with the letter ya [YaSbah], which is referring to Floating.

The letters are Floating around one another, since the concept being discussed is Orbit.

It is also a Palindrome, by which the words can be read forwards and backwards the same
phrase is said.

Quranic Palindrome #2:

[wa RaBaKa Fa KaBiR]

And your Lord (Allah) magnify!

[i.e. so magnify your Lord!]

(focus on the Consonants only in the arabic language)

[Quran Surah Mudatthir 74:3]

This can also be Read the same forwards AND backwards.

Some points to add to this:

1) It was spoken and the one who spoke it was illiterate. It's pretty hard to come up
with a palindrome when you sit down and work it out, yet it might be possible, but to
speak it out of the blue -> you only get one shot at getting it right because what is being
is said is memorized instantly and written down. You can't go back and modify it. Plus
the speaker himself, the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad, is illiterate so it's not like he
could have sat down before hand and worked through it.

2) It was recited together with the verses before and after it. I.e. it's right in the
middle of a passage and the fact that the verse being a palindrome fits so well in the
context of what's being said and doesn't take anything away from the coherency and
meaning.

3) It was unknown at the time but discovered centuries later by linguistic scholars
who spent their time looking through the Qur'an for such aspects of linguistic excellence.
It's not like the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (peace be upon him) went around and
said look, this verse has a palindrome. It's just there.

Your Life Summarised in 1 Aayah/verse!
(Hadeed 57:20)
Your Life Summarised in 1 Aayah/verse!

Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp/beauty and
mutual boasting among you, and Rivalry in respect of wealth and children.

(It is) as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to
the tillers; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes
straw.

But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers &
evildoers), and (there is) forgiveness from Allh and (His) Good Pleasure (for
the believers). And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment.

[Quran Surah Hadeed 57:20]

This one verse concisely summarizes and sums up our entire lives. Consider our
lives:

1) We start as toddlers. This verse starts with play (la`ibun), which is what
toddlers are engrossed in, its most important to them.

2) Then when we get a little older we need entertainment to keep us busy
amusement (lahwun).

3) A little later in our teens we are obsessed with pomp, or appearance and how
beautiful/attractive things look (zeenatun).

4) Then as we get independent and make money we deal with urges to show off
(boasting tafaakhur).

5) Then we get married and have kids (rivalry in wealth and children
takaathur fi al-amwaal wa al-aulaad).
In just a few words (around 8 words), Allah has compressed our entire thought process
throughout our lives!

This is one form of Literary Gems from the Quran - Direct & Specific speech,
when describing extremely complicated aspects.

Welcome to QuranGems! :D

The aim of this site is to gather the beautiful Gems from Qur'an and Sunnah, and
amaze you at the beautiful sounds and pictures portrayed within the sayings of
Allah and His Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam).

This is a unique project because most of the translations of the Qur'an and Sunnah
are kept in a 'straight-forward' format which makes it easy to understand, but it
doesn't expose the beauty and eloquence of the Qur'an and Sunnah.

Our aim on this site is to extract these beautiful Gems, and the best thing is - you
don't even need to know Arabic!
