Participantswerealsolesslikelytomakeergonomic,postural
adjustmentsintheircomputerworkstationwhileworkingunder
noisy,relativetoquiet,conditions.Posturalinvarianceisarisk
factorformusculoskeletaldisorder.
Althoughparticipantsinthenoiseconditionperceivedtheir
worksettingassignificantlynoisierthanthoseworkingunder

Inhumans,themajorityofthestudiessuggestthatthesleepof
youngindividualsisratherresistanttothearousingeffectsofCRH.
Incontrast,middleagedindividualsrespondedtoanequivalent
doseofCRHwithsignificantlymorewakefulnessandsuppression
ofslowwavesleepcomparedtobaseline.
Basedonthesefindings,weconcludedthatmiddleagedmen
showincreasedvulnerabilityofsleeptostresshormones,
possiblyresultinginimpairmentsinthequalityofsleepduring
periodsofstress.
Thesefindingssuggestthatchangesinsleepphysiologyassociated
withmiddleageplayasignificantroleinthemarkedincreaseof
prevalenceofinsomniainmiddleage.Also,peripheral
administrationofCRHisassociatedwithaREMsuppression,which
isstrongerintheyoungthaninthemiddleaged.
ourfindingsshowanimportantroleof
fibroblastexpressedCRHintheproliferation,
migration,andcytokineproductionofthese
cellsprocessesassociatedwiththeskin
responsetoinjury.
Ourdatasuggestthattheimmunomodulatory
effectsofCRHmayincludeanimportant,albeit
notexploredyet,roleinepidermaltissue
remodelingandregenerationandmaintenance
oftissuehomeostasis.
HumanCRH wasaseffectiveasACTH at
stimulating DHEA production;however,itwas
70%lesspotentthanACTHatstimulating
cortisolproduction,indicatingthatitsactions
werepreferentiallydirectedtowardincreasing
DHEAsynthesis.

Studiesofglucocorticoids (GCs)andmemoryhave
revealedthatduringacutestress,elevatedGClevels
workinconcertwithnoradrenergicactivationto
enhancetheprocessofencodingandconsolidating
emotionalmemories(Rozendaal etal.,2006).
Onemodelthathasbeenputforthhypothesizesthat
themPFC whichnormallyhasinhibitorycontrolover
thenoradrenergicneuronsoftheLCandovertheHPA
axis,isrenderedineffectiveattimesofacutestress
thuspermittingenhancedstimulationofthe
amygdalabyGCsandNE,whichinturnenhances
encodingandconsolidationofthetraumaticmemory
(Hurlemann,2008).
