NORTH AMERICAN SPACE
AGENCY'S
North America has a large and proud history of space
exploration and space research. This was shown when
the Americans won against the Russian cosmonauts in
the space race to the moon. NASA, AEM and CSA will
continue to grow and be well known to the world as
leading space agencies.
NASA
NASA stands for National Aeronautics &
space Administration. NASA is an extremely
well known space agency in the world. It is
an government agency that is responsible
for the civilian space program and
aeronautics and aerospace research. The
focus of NASA is to gain a better
understanding of earth, exploring places
through our solar system, advancing
heliophysics and research astrophysics.
NASA will share its data to national and
international organisations to get better
understanding.
History of NASA
NASA was founded in 1958 by president Dwight D. Eisenhower. The
National Aeronautics and Space act was passed in July 29 1958 and
soon became operational in October 1 1958. NASA was founded for
non military intentions, it was for civilian orientation encouraging
peaceful applications in space science. NASA was created to replace
National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics or NACA for short. From
1946 NACA was experimenting with rocket planes but after the launch
of the first artificial satellite from the soviet. U.S Congress was alarmed
by the threat to national security that they agreed to create a new
federal agency that would conduct non military activity in space. The
Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) was created in February
1958, this agency was used to develop space technology for military
application.
NASA Activity
Since NASA was
created, most of
the U.S space
exploration have
been led by
NASA. NASA
have many
programs
including space
flight and
scientific
research, They
have conducted
many manned
and many
unmanned space
flights.
X-15 Rocket Plane 1959-68
X-15 rocket plane that was a
experimental rocket powered
hypersonic research aircraft.
Project Mercury 1959-63
Project Mercury was a project
that was to get man in Earths
orbit this was NASAs first
manned orbital spaceflight
Project Gemini 1961-66
This project was to demonstrate
rendezvous, docking,
extravehicular activity and get
data on effects on
weightlessness on the human
body.
Project Apollo 1961-72
On May 25 1961JFK was
committed to land man on the
moon by the end of the 60s
after the soviet union put the
first man in space.
Some of The Many Manned Flights

Unmanned programs

There have been over one thousand unmanned missions.
Some of theses missions have been designed to explore
earth and our solar system, others are or communication
others are for research purposes. There have been
launches of satellites, rovers and telescopes/cameras.,
Future Projects
Future projects for NASA are more in depth investigations of
Mars, Saturn and the sun. There is the New Horizons mission
where a probe was launched in 2006 and is expected to fly by
Pluto in 2015. It will study the Mars atmosphere and examine
Jupiter's inner moons. Another large project is to create a moon
base by 2020. They hope to have it fully functionally in 2024. In
2010, President Barack Obama also hopes to have manned
missions to asteroids on mars.
AEM
The AEM is the national space agency of
Mexico, AEM stands for Agencia Espacial
Mexicana. The AEMs goal is to make
Mexico a country with scientific space
activities with world class technological
developments. They plan to address social
needs and create programs and services
that will help increase Mexicos
competiveness.
History of the AEM
First signs of a space agency in Mexico came from the
Mexican space society in 1990. The approval of the project
was rejected. A proposal was again made and was presented
to the House of Representatives in 2005, the proposal was
approved in 2006. In 2010 the law of creating a Mexican
space agency was in place and in the same year the Mexican
space agency established a first governing board of the
Mexican space agency.
CSA
The CSA is the Canadian Space Agency
they were created in 1989. The intention of
the Canadian Space Agency is to promote
peaceful use and development of space, to
advance the knowledge of space. Doing this
to ensure that space science and
technology can provide social and economic
benefits for Canadians. The CSA mission
statement says that the agency is committed
to leading the development and application
of space knowledge for the benefit of
Canadians and humanity.
History of CSA
The Canadians space program can be traced back to 1945-1960
during world war two. They began launching satellites for
defence research. But the CSA was formed in March 1 1989,
Canada became the third country to put a satellite into space.
Canada has had many achievements and activity in space but
the Canadian Space Agency or CSA was made after creating the
Canadian Space Agency Act in 1990.
CSA Activity
The CSA has launched thirteen satellites in the time of 1962-
2013 with ten satellites still in service. The purposes of these
satellites range from exploring the ionosphere, communications,
commercial and space telescopes. And there are twelve
satellites that the CSA has assisted in international satellite
projects. There have also been several Canadian astronauts
from 1984-2012
Future Projects
The CSA has signed contracts with several contracts with
different companies. The CSA will design and create three
satellites for earth observation the launch is scheduled for 2018.
There will also be 2 other satellite launches in 2016 for
communication. The CSA will also research and design a small
satellite launcher so they can launch their own rockets instead of
relaying on foreign launch providers such as USA, India and
Russia. For a full scale project like this one it will take ten to
twelve years to complete, there has been no funding for this
activity yet.
