Sounds & Software License Agreement
NOTE :
COPYRIGHT LAWS HAVE RECENTLY BEEN STRENGTHENED. IT IS IN
YOUR BEST INTEREST TO READ AND FOLLOW THIS AGREEMENT.
This copy of the Sounds & Software (the Product) are licensed to you as the
end user. Please read this Agreement carefully.
You cannot transfer ownership of these Sounds and Software they contain.
You cannot re-sell or copy the Product.
LICENSE AND PROTECTION
1. License Grant.
UVI, brand (UVI) grants to you, subject to the following terms and conditions,
a non-exclusive, nontransferable right to use each authorized copy of the
enclosed Product.
The enclosed product is the property of UVI and is licensed to you only for
use as part of a musical performance, live or recorded. This license expressly
forbids resale or other distribution of the sounds and software included in
the Product or their derivatives, either as they exist on disc, reformatted for
use in another digital sampler, or mixed, combined, filtered, resynthesized
or otherwise edited, for use as sounds, multisounds, samples, multisamples,
wavetables, programs or patches in a sampler, microchip or any hardware or
software sample playback device.
You cannot sell the Product content or give it away for use by others in
their sampling or sample playback devices. In the event UVI terminates this
Agreement due to your breach, you agree to return the original and all other
copies of the software and documentation to UVI.
UVI reserves all rights not expressly granted to you.
2. Protection of Software.
You agree to take all reasonable steps to protect this product and any accom-
panying documentation from unauthorized copying or use. You agree not to
modify the enclosed product to circumvent any method or means adopted or
implemented by UVI to protect against or discourage the unlicensed use of
copying of the enclosed Product.
3. Ownership.
As between you and UVI, ownership of, and title to, the enclosed digitally
recorded sounds (including any copies) will be held by UVI. Copies are pro-
vided to you only to enable you to exercise your rights under the license.
Only this license is purchased by you.
4. Term.
This Agreement is effective from the date you open this package, and will
remain in full force until termination. This Agreement will terminate if you break
any of the terms or conditions of this Agreement. Upon termination you agree
to destroy and return to UVI all copies of this product and accompanying
documentation.
5. Restrictions.
Except as expressly authorized in this Agreement, you may not rent, sell, lease,
sublicense, distribute, transfer, copy, reproduce, display, modify or time share
the enclosed product or documentation.

Inspired by Four 90s Wonders
In the late 80s and early 90s the synthesizer landscape began to change.
A new breed of keyboards began appearing in shops, records and on stage;
matte black behemoths eschewing the familiar knob arrays for uniform clusters
of discrete buttons and glowing green LCD screens. They signaled more than
a shift in interaction with our musical counterparts they ushered in the era of
the digital synth.
To those willing to forgo the immediacy and ease-of-editing of the analog synth
world these keyboards offered amazing features for the time; massive polyph-
ony, extensive on-board sequencers and pattern memory, removable storage
and digital effects. In addition to the immediate benefits of digital processing
some of these keyboards also dawned innovative hybrid synthesis techniques,
combining sample playback with classic methods allowing synthesists and
musicians the opportunity to explore new sonic territory.
The possibilities with a few of these classics was more than we could bear
and became the inspiration for our new project, Digital Synsations. We took
4 classic keyboards from the era and set our sound designers loose, tasking
them to return with boundary-pushing sounds and they did. Digital Synsations
includes over 500 patches expertly programmed on a fully restored Yamaha
SY77, Korg M1, Roland D50 and Ensoniq VFX used by many of the greats
including Depeche Mode, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys, Vangelis, Brian Eno, Toto,
808 State, Jean Michael Jarre and more.
We deeply multi-sampled these custom patches using top-shelf equipment and
edited them to perfection before sending them off for professional mastering.
These sonics became the foundation for our new hybrid instrument and com-
bined with the UVI Engine give you the true character of these classic synths
with all of the peculiarities and programming byproducts intact. Not only that but
you get them in an extremely easy to use and fast to edit environment complete
with all the features you expect from a modern virtual instrument.

UFS files are UVIs monolithic instrument files. All
required samples, presets, scripts, FX and impulse
responses are contained within an instruments UFS file,
making for easy installation and file management.
Follow the procedures outlined below in order to install
Digital Synsations and load in either UVI Workstation 2
or MOTU MachFive 3.

Inspired by the Korg M1
The M1 employs AI (Advanced Integrated) synthesis, a hybrid synthesis engine
that allows the creation of sounds made up of 16-bit multisamples or harmonic
tables generated from by digital analysis from sample data similar to additive
synthesis. These methods can be employed in parallel for even greater sonic
diversity.

Inspired by the Yamaha SY77
The SY77 combines next generation FM synthesis with 16-bit sampled sounds
from internal memory or stored on removable ROM cards. The AFM engine on
these synths allows you to freely apply filters and envelopes to any of the sam-
pled sounds and then roll the resulting waveforms back into the FM algorithm
prior to further filtering. This novel approach, dubbed RCM hybrid synthesis,
can be used to yield extremely versatile sonic results.

Inspired by the Roland D50
The D50 provided a purely digital signal path allowing the combination of 8-bit
PCM samples with linear arithmetic synthesis to produce single hybrid sounds
or complex cross modulations between the two. Furthermore you could layer
two of these sounds together into a patch for a total of 4 digital OSCs. Each
OSC could be independently programmed resulting in a remarkable variety of
tonal possibilities.

Inspired by the Ensoniq VFX
The VFX used a wavetable like synthesis method similar to that of the PPG
Wave. Up to 6 waves can combined and layered into a single patch which feeds
an impressive array of dual multi-mode filters, three 11-stage envelopes, an
LFO and a 24-bit effects processor. Advanced parameter mapping allows up to
15 sources to be used for extremely complex modulations and sound shaping.

After loading a preset from DSX folder into the UVI Workstation 2 or MachFive
3, youll find the following graphic interface.
The UI was designed to facilitate quick and intuitive sound sculpting.
> AMPLITUDE
A / D / S / R Typical volume envelope
VEL SENSE Adjust velocity sensitivity
VEL > ATK Convert low velocities to long attacks and high velocities
to short attacks
Note: the longest attack will be set by the A parameter
> FILTER
HP / BP / HP Filter mode
ENV DEPTH Depth of the ADSR applied to the filter
CUT OFF Set cut-off frequency
RES Adjust resonance (Q) of the filter
> FILTER ENV
A / D / S / R Typical filter envelope
VEL SENSE Adjust velocity sensitivity
> STEREO
OFF Standard playing mode using mono samples
ALT This emulates the multiple output from old samplers
Each voice is panned sequencially from left to right
(SPREAD parameter sets the width of the stereo)
UNI Using sound layering manipulation, this feature allows
a dramatic extension of the stereo image
To be combined with COLOR and SPREAD settings
COLOR Playing neighbouring samples, this parameter shifts the
color of the sound in a unique way
SPREAD Works in ALT and UNI mode, setting the stereo spread
TUNE Works only in UNI mode, detuning both layers

This section allows you to simulate a portamento like effect
DEPTH Adjust the depth of the Pitch envelope
TIME Set the timing of the Pitch envelope

On/Off Bypass or activate the Drive effect

ABOUT SPARKVERB
The reverberation included in DSX is the new UVI SparkVerb, a highly
advanced synthetic reverb that focuses on sound quality and musicality.
By using U1250 whithin MachFive 3 and UVI Workstation 2 youll be able to
edit all the SparkVerb parameters.

GET THE MOST FROM UVI WORKSTATION
MIDI Learn
Most UVI Workstation parameters can be automated via convenient MIDI Learn.
MIDI Learn allows you to assign a MIDI controller to a parameter.
> Any FX tab parameter, Macro Knobs and sliders in scripted instruments can use
the MIDI Learn feature.
To use MIDI Learn:
1. Right-click any UVI Workstation control to assign a MIDI controller.

2. When the MIDI Learn dialog is displayed, send the desired MIDI
controller data from your MIDI device. When you move the physical knob or
slider on your MIDI controller, the controller data type is accepted and the
window is closed.

> The MIDI controller type and the MIDI Channel assignment is then saved in the
multi, or when you save your song in your host sequencer.
3. To remove a MIDI controller assignment, right-click the UVI Workstation control
and press Delete.
Automation is assigned per part
When you assign a MIDI controller as described above, the control is connected
to the currently selected part. This gives you the maximum amount of flexibility,
allowing you to control multiple parts simultaneously.
Unlimited FX
UVI Workstation offers a wide variety of FX (effects processors) to cover all your
audio processing needs. The FX implementation is robust and includes the ability
to insert unlimited FX slots in several stages of the signal flow.
- Click the FX tab to open the FX page on the Single view.
- In Multi view the FX section is always displayed.
Arpeggiator
To insert an arpeggiator in a part, you need to display the Single view in the UVI
Workstation, then click on the note icon.
Using the Arpeggiator:
The Arpeggiator can be employed as a pattern gate, arpeggiator, or even an
advanced rhythmic processor for your live MIDI performance or sequenced MIDI
tracks. Arpeggiotor can be inserted in an unlimited number of parts.
Stack Presets
Thanks to the simplicity of the UVI Workstation you can stack as many preset as
you want by simply assign multiple part on the same MIDI chanel.
Performance : Split, Velocity & Key Switch
The Keyswitch settings allow you to load multiple presets into two or more parts
and then dynamically play and mute them from your MIDI controller using key swit-
ching, note range, velocity range or any combination of the three parameters.This
powerful feature gives you a great deal of real-time control over the instruments
you are playing from your MIDI controller.
Scroll wheel
All knobs can be adjusted with the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Entering a value
When you double-click on any knob or slider, you can manually enter or type
in the desired value.
