MIDTERM ASSIGNMENTS

MM5005 PEOPLE IN ORGANIZATION - CLASS YE 49X

DUE DATE: BY 17:00 FRIDAY, 8 MARCH, 2014
General Instruction:
1. This is an individual evaluation assignments to be worked out at home, which consists
of two part: some review questions and a short case writing exercise.
2. You are expected to work individually utilizing any resources available to you,
including all materials we have discussed in class. However, you must fully observe
the academic honesty policy.
3. Your response should be single-spaced typed in MS-Word using 12pt Times New
Roman, or 10pt Verdana, printed on A4 size papers of no more than 4 pages total.
4. Make sure that you write your name and student ID number at the top-right of your
papers.
5. You should submit your answer-papers (hard-copy) to the MBA Secretariat no later
than 17:00pm Friday, 8 March 2014.
A. REVIEW QUESTIONS (10 points max each, in no more than 2 pages total)
1. Based on the readings we have discussed in class, please describe in one paragraph
and in your own language your understanding of why it is important to understand
why people behave the way they do in organizational context.
2. Which of the six topics we have discussed in class do you think or feel most important
and therefore need further learning for your future career, and why ?
3. Which of the six topics we have discussed in class do you think or feel least important
and may not need immediate further learning for your future career, and why ?
4. What lessons did you learn from reading and discussing the case of Life Stories of
Recent MBAs
5. Please refer to the result of your StrengthFinder exercise, and assume that the top five
strengths you got are valid. What do you think you would do to capitalize on that
stengths for your career.
B. SHORT CASE WRITING (50 points in no more than 2 pages length)
You are required to write a short case description and analysis of an organizational
behavior incident or encounter.
The case description should tell a story of your own experience in dealing with people
issue(s) in either interpersonal, group / team, or organizational context, as it relates to one
or more of the six topics we discussed in class.
The case analysis should include your suggestion on how the issue should have been
more appropriately dealt with based on the concept that you have learned in class.
You should put an appropriate title at the top of to the case.
Your work will be evaluated based on its originality, relevance, clarity and conciseness.
