Profile of MBA Department

The MBA Department of Sourashtra College got started in 1994 with a sanctioned intake
of 30 students and 5 permanent faculty members which was headed by Prof. M.D. Manoharan.
The demand for admission grew leaps and bounds and we got our sanctioned intake improved to
60 students in 1997.
In 1998, the HOD of MBA department, Prof. M.D. Manoharan was appointed as the
Principal of our college. Along with the Principal post, he also held the HOD post for MBA till
2002.
In 2002, Prof. P. Sudhakaran, who has vast experience of pharmaceutical marketing in
various roles took over as the HOD and Prof. M.D. Manoharan was appointed as the Director of
MBA Department. Prof. M.D. Manoharan retired in 2006.
Placement got started on a serious note from 1998. Till 2008 Prof. P.Sudhakaran was in
charge of Placements. In 2008 Prof. P. Senthil Kumaran took charge of Placement Officer. A
placement Brochure containing the profile of the students stating the Name, Area of
specialization, Area of Interest, Previous experience, Computer Literacy, Languages known and
other communication details were prepared as a Placement Brochure by the Placement Officer.
This Placement Brochure was sent to the Corporate before the Project Training and Placement.
Most of the students were placed for training in the interested concerns. After the successful
completion of the training, most of the students were selected by the companies as Management
Trainees and Junior Executives. If some recruiters willing to come to the Campus Placement, it
has been arranged in the college premises. Through the college only 25 % of the students were
placed and remaining students were placed by their own influences.
Our library has a vast collection of management books, which satisfy the various needs of
the students (Number of books: 8184). In addition to this, leading business magazines (337
journals) and newspapers are subscribed. To ensure speedy, reliable and accurate information to
our students, the department is equipped with several CDs and research publications in the
library.
In 2009, our department started its own computer lab for students with 8 computers with
net connection. In 2010, in addition to 8 systems, 3 new systems were given for faculty members
with net connection. In 2012, another 2 systems were added.
Today we have various activities like Industrial visits, Inter collegiate cricket tournament
exclusively for MBA students, HR Seminars, Students Management competition games etc. to
broaden the perspectives of our MBA students. Our students have also taken part in various
students management games, seminars, workshops etc. conducted by other colleges and also by
the industry and have brought laurels to our department.
The students who have secured University ranks are Mr. Vijay Kandasamy of
2002 batch secured University Rank No: 7, Ms. Vaishnavi of 2003 batch secured University
Rank No: 3, Mr. Jeyanth Babu of 2006 batch secured University Rank No: 8, Ms. Priya Lakshmi
of 2007 batch secured University Rank No: 10, Ms. Ajantha of 2009 batch secured University
Rank no: 1 and Ms. Vaideki of 2012 batch secured University Rank No: 4.
