MunicipalleadersandCSpireexecutivesannouncedanagreementtodaythatpromisestohelpJacksonbecome
oneofnationsmosttechnologicallyadvancedcitiesbyofferingresidentsultrahighspeed1Gbps(Gigabitper
second)FibertotheHomebroadbandInternetaccess.

TheRidgelandbasedtelecommunicationsandtechnologyservicesfirmforgedrelationshipswithnineother
MississippicitieslastNovembertoprovide100timesfaster,nextgenerationInternetaccessandrelateddigitalHD
TV,phoneandhomeautomationservices.Jacksonbecomesthe10
th
andlargestcitytojointheinitiative.

JacksonMayorTonyYarbersaidtheagreementrepresentsahistoricopportunityforthecitytobecomeahubfor
technologyinvestment,generatenew,highpayingjobsandprovideabetterqualityoflifeforits172,638
residents.

ItsanewdayinJacksonandwereexcitedaboutpartneringwithCSpiretocreateabrightfutureforthepeople
inthiscity,Yarbersaid.Gigabitinfrastructurewilladdresssomanyneedsinourcityfromeducationandhealth
caretobusinessexpansionwhileimprovinghomevalues.

HuMeena,presidentandCEOofCSpireandaJacksonresident,saidhiscompanyisonamissiontomoveJackson
andtheMagnoliastatefromworsttofirstinnationalrankingsforaverageInternetspeedsandconsumeraccessto
superfastbroadbandservices.AprimarygoalistoensureMississippihaseasyaccesstofibertechnologyjustas
wearedeliveringonourgoalofensuringconsumersandbusinessesinourstatehaveaccesstothelatestwireless
technologies,hesaid.

theworldthatJacksonandthestateofMississippiarereadytobeacatalystfortechnologyinvestment,economic

Initially,thewebsitewillfeatureasinglelargemapshowingJacksoncityboundaries.Laterthismonth,theweb
pagewillbeupdatedandshowdetailed,interactivemapsofthecitydividedintofiberhoodsshowingwhat
percentageofresidentsneededtopreregistertoturnanareagreenandqualifyforbuildoutoftheservice.All
residentswhopreregisternowwillbeplacedintheirspecificfiberhoodatthattime.

Whenitisupdated,theJacksonsitealsowillincludeprogressbarsforeachfiberhoodtohelpresidentsgetareal
timesnapshotoftheirsuccessingettingneighbors,friendsandotherswholivenearbytopreregisterforthe
service.RegistrationpercentagegoalsforthecityofJacksonvarybetween35and45percent.

NineMississippicities,includingBatesville,Clinton,Corinth,Hattiesburg,HornLake,McComb,Quitman,Ridgeland
andStarkville,wereselectedbyCSpirelastNovemberforthegamechangingtechnologyafterthecompanysaidit
woulduseitsextensivefiberopticinfrastructureandspendmillionsofdollarstoconnectcitiesinthefirstphase.

HomeownerpreregistrationbeganinthosecitieslastDecember.Sincethattime,localgovernment,community
andbusinessleadershaveralliedresidentsinfourofthecities(Ridgeland,Starkville,QuitmanandHornLake)to
preregisteratlevelsthatqualifiedeightareasfortheservice.Thecompanyexpectsmoreareasinadditionalcities
toqualifysoon.

ConstructionstartedinRidgelandinMayandhasalsobeenunderwayinareasofseveralothercitiesthathave
qualifiedfortheservice,includingtheentiretownofQuitman.

Meenasaidthestrongsupportandengagementfromcitiesistheprimaryreasonforthefastmovinginitiatives
successthusfar.WhenitlaunchesserviceinthefirstCSpireFibercitieslaterthismonth,thecompanywillhave
movedfromvisiontorealityin12months.Incomparison,Googletooknearlythreeyearsbeforeitselectedand
beganofferingGigabitfiberserviceinKansasCity,Kansas.Ourinitiativeisagreatexampleofwhatcanbe
accomplishedwhencities,communitiesandbusinessleadersworktogethertomoveMississippiforward,hesaid.

ForCSpirecustomers,the1GbpsInternetaccesswillbeavailablefor$70amonth,$90amonthforcombined
Internetandhomephone,$130forInternetandHDdigitalTVand$150amonthfortheentirepackageofallthree
services.Noncustomerswillberequiredtopayanadditional$10amonthonallpackages.Pricingforhome
automationserviceswillbeannouncedsoon.
