About Kirsten
Kirsten Pyle-Springer has spent
her 29-year nursing career
devoted to critical care and
quality management. She
graduated with her BSN from
Grand Canyon Uni versi t y.
Kirsten is currently working in
the Neurosurgical Trauma ICU
at Cottage Hospital in Santa
Barbara, California.
Kirsten has been extensively
involved in Critical Care related education, locally
and nationally since 1988 and has been a critical care
consultant since 2003. She has had several national
advisory board appointments including the American
Association of Critical Care Nurses.

Kirsten has authored and published multiple nursing
journal articles and nursing research outcomes
studies, some of which were presented nationally,
including the Congress for the Society of Critical
Care Medicine, the National Teaching Institute, the
Emergency Nursing Association Conference and the
American College of Chest Physicians Congress.
Kirsten received the AACN Circle of Excellence
Award for Excellence in Collaboration: Nurse to
Physician, and her teams were the recipient of the
Hoag Hos pi t al Out s t andi ng Per f or mance
Improvement Award, the American Hospital
Association Circle of Life Award, and the 2008
JCAHO Earnest B. Codman Award for Outstanding
use of outcomes data for performance improvement.
She is married with two adult daughters, enjoys
playing golf and is very involved with the Santa
Barbara arts community.
Program Description
This program is designed for nurses who work in areas
where critically ill and high acuity patients are cared for. It
will address topics related to current issues and practices in
the critical care setting. The goal of this symposium is to
enhance the professional nurses knowledge base in the
ever expanding and changing world of critical care nursing.
We also welcome nurses from areas outside of critical care
such as ED, PACU, DOU/TELE.
FEES
As listed on the registration form. Fees include continental
breakfast, lunch and vendor exhibits. Your cancelled check
is your receipt and registration will be confirmed via email.

National AACN members are invited to become a local
SFVAACN Chapter member for $25.00 annual dues in
order to qualify for SFVAACN membership discount.
Continuing Education Credit
Provider No. 00124 as approved by the California Board of
Registered Nurses for 7.0 hours of CEU credit.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
Refunds are issued, less a $25.00 processing fee, if
cancellations are received before October 1, 2014. No
refunds will be given after this date. We reserve the right to
make necessary changes to the agenda and to cancel the
program by phone or email no later than 3 working days
prior to the program.
Late Fee: Additional fee of $25.00 for registrations
postmarked after October 1, 2014 and for on- site
registration.
Chapter Information
In 1970, an innovative group of nurses founded an
organization called San Fernando Coronary Care
Nurses Association. By 1972 the group became a
chartered chapter of the American Association of
Critical Care Nurses with the purpose of fostering the
professional growth of Critical Care Nurses through
quality educational opportunities and promotion of the
philosophy and objectives of National AACN.
Chapter Membership is open to Nurses
who are members of National AACN
Local chapter dues are $25.00 annually. Forms for
SFVAACN membership will be available at the
symposium. SFVAACN meets the 2nd Thursday of
the month at 7pm for discussion of business and
professional activities. All members are welcome.
