7. Select the type of HOP (1+0), the type of Main indoor unit (IDU Main 4x2Mbps) and the
model of ODU (ODU UX Flat). With this setting IU will search for the type of OU. You can also
specify exactly the type of OU be selecting something else (e.g. ODU UX 15 GHz High Power
for Model and 1260 MHZ LO Inf for Duplexer.)

8. Select the capacity of IU and the modulation (both given in WO)

9. Select which ports will be disabled or unframed. If disabled, a port doesnt give alarm. It is
suggested to set disabled the E1 that we dont use.

10. Set the TX power and the TX frequency. ATPC is disabled. This is a special ability of IU to
adjust TX power according to the RX power of far.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
19/47

11. Set the IP address (must be given from Cosmorom). If no IP address is given set an IP
address 192.168.1.xxx. Make sure that IP addresses of near end and far end arent the same. Also
check Advanced Configuration to configure some special network capabilities of IU.

2.3 Checking PCM lines
To check the incoming PCM lines do the following

Select tab Line Interface from the main window and click on channel #1 node. You can see
which line is cleared and which is not. We can clear the line if we loop TX-RX, TX-RX. We

2.4 Saving Files
During commissioning there are 4 files that must be saved and attached with site folder.

1. DiagnosisRemote Inventory From this dialog we can save a file (e.g.
Buzau_RemoteInventory.txt) that shows the sw versions, hw versions and serial numbers of the
units. From here we take some information that we se in site folder. Under paragraph 2. HOP
CONFIGURATION we set as
SW Version of IU (and OU): remoteInventorySoftwarePartNumber.
Version(PN) of OU(s) : remoteInventoryPartNumber
Serial Numbers : remoteInventorySerialNumber

29/47

2. DiagnosisCurrent Configuration View From this dialog we can see the configuration of
the IU and save a .txt file (e.g. Buzau_CurrentConfiguration.txt). All settings are shown here.

30/47

3. SupervisionFeature key: The dialog that appears shows characteristics of the software key.
Take a screen shot from this and attach the picture (e.g. Buzau_FeatureKey.jpg) inside SF.

31/47

4. From main window go to Radio tab and at Power meas tab of lower frame. The file that is
written as log file has the measurements for TX and RX power. When alignment is over this file
shows whole history of the alignment. Attach this file (e.g. Buzau_PowerMeas.txt) to SF. Also a
screenshot of the dialog that shows TX and RX power is acceptable.

3. Select Tributary configuration

4. Here press next. Radio protection is Non Revertive. When main IU fails, radio protection will
switch to extension IU. If main IU restores its normal operation radio protection will not switch
back to main IU. The same applies for Mux/Demux Protection. In contrary, HSB Tx protection
is Revertive which means when ODU restores its operation after a failure, Tx protection will
switch to main ODU again.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
35/47

5. Select Tx power and frequency. Press next. From this point and after the commissioning
procedure is the same

Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide

3. Protection schemes at 1+1
When installing a 1+1 link you must check if link works as 1+1. Follow the next steps.
During these tests you must be sure that link never drops and cabinet remains on air.

1. Go to tab Protection Schemes. There you can check the status of the IUs. Radio Protection and
Mux/Demux Protection are Non Revertive. HSB Tx Protection is Revertive. It will switch back
to main ODU when ODUs failure vanishes. At normal operation all main are Active and spare
at Standby. Be careful that Command is at None.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
37/47

2. Go to SupervisionSummary Block Diagram View. From here you can see the switches. Red
circle (tributaries) stands for Mux/Demux Protection, yellow (outdoor units) for HSB Tx
protection and blue (radio rx) for Radio protection. Each of them can switch from main to
extension unit by giving the right commands.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
38/47

3. Go to Radio protection and give the command Forced for main. Main switches to Standby
and extension to Active.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
39/47

4. Block Diagram shows that Rx radio signal (Switch Radio block) is passing through extension.
Be sure that link remains active and cabinet is on air. Now signal is following the next route

Tributaries enter link from main IDU, they re multiplexed and transmitted from main
ODU.
Receiving signal arrives at both ODUs but it is accepted only from extension. Incoming
signal goes to main IDU though ESC ports at the middle of IDU.
Lines come out from main IDU.

Go to Radio Protection at main window, give the command None to main and the command
Lockout (to lock spare and to achieve the switch to main) and None to extension. Be careful not
leave main unit at forced or extension at Lockout.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
40/47

5. Go to HSB Tx Protection and give the command Forced to main. Now it switches to
extension ODU.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
41/47

6. Extension ODU is active and main ODU standby. Signal route is as follows:

Tributaries enter main IDU, transferred to extension IDU and transmitted from extension
ODU.
Receiving signal is accepted from main ODU, passes to main IDU and comes out from
line interface of main unit.

Restore normal status of HSB. Give the command None to main. Because HSB Tx Protection is
revertive, it will switch automatically to main from spare.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
42/47

7. Go to Mux/Demux Protection and give the command Forced to main. Now tributaries will
switch to extension unit.
Alcatel 9400 Commissioning Guide
43/47

8. At block diagram we can see the new state of the switches.

Tributaries go into extension IDU, jump to main IDU and transmitted from main ODU.
Rx signal is received from main ODU, passes to extension IDU and comes out from
extension IDU.

Restore proper status at MUX/DEMUX. Give command None to main, Lockout to spare and
None to spare.
9. After that you restored normal status to all protection schemes do the following.

a. Turn off main IDU. Check if cabinet remains active. Turn on again main IDU
b. Pull out main IDU RF cable. If site remains on air plug it back.
c. Pull out the tributaries connector from main IDU (the white cable that connects line
interfaces of main and extension IDUs).
