to observe and document Ghanaian art and culture from design perspective to create a design source book for Global Mamas. The source book is a collection of our inspirations and translations for use in batik fabric design. Through photography, drawing, and writing, we captured images from several regions of Ghana, including: Greater Accra, Volta, Eastern, Asante, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East, and Central. We translated the images into motif, pattern and potential color ways. Finally, the images were translated by the students, all of whom were new to batik, to create a set of samples on fabric. This source book includes a section from each student. The inspiration for the design and color palette, the process used to develop the nal designs, and a sample of the design executed in batik. Global Mamas considerations for this project: The Global Mamas customer is typically women in western and European markets.
Design focus: Create mix & match prints that could be combined in garments such as the esta skirt, tiered girls dress, or home dcor. Patterns for boys and girls, infant through early teens, and home decor. Ghana Study Abroad Program Mission Statement Technical issues: Use the colors/dyes currently available to the batik artists. Wed like to thank Mary, Emma and Eli, our most excellent batik instructors. They are true professionals in their art. Their patience, good humor and attention to detail made our experience enjoyable and made us look forward to our visits over the ve day workshop. Me da ase!
