Unit Descriptor
%tudents will critically review foundational methodologies, techni4ues and tools that underpin the successful implementation of
enterprise resource planning 5(6&7 systems. ,n industry standard system, %,&, will illustrate this professional whole of enterprise
integrated approach. This unit raises issues that need to be considered for successful (6& implementation, challenging students to
investigate and interpret on a case'by'case basis critical elements including: the ,%,& &ro8ect life cycle, data conversion,
implementation testing, and monitoring via pro8ect reporting. %tudents will evaluate a range of implementation strategies and
alternative change management models to recommend choices for contemporary organisations operating in a variety of business
settings.

Learning Outcomes
:n successful completion of this unit of study students should be able to:
,nalyse and evaluate the critical stage of implementation in the development of enterprise wide systems,
(valuate and debate the need for linking enterprise mission ; goals with the implementation of (6& systems.
"ompose and demonstrate the use of %,& tools to aid and understand the implementation process, and,
(hibit effective multi'disciplinary team participation with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability that
respects the role of culture, and differing values and dispositions as they affect the achievement of pro8ect goals.
Learning and teaching strategies
This Unit of %tudy is delivered in a combination of lectures and workshops. The lectures are interactive, introducing and
encouraging students to discuss contemporary international theory and research on implementation issues and
theory with blended learning being utilised. The workshops and assessment enable students to identify, discuss
and critically analyse issues that facilitate implementations and utilisation of implementation tools for
administrative, operational and process based business areas. The workshops use various %,& technologies
as tools for developing practical skills in, as well as conceptual understanding of an implementation in a
simulated business contet. The assessment is both independent and group based encouraging team work
and collaborative learning. Understanding of the business relevance of the unit is developed through case
studies and simulated workshops, and is assessed in the practical and theory tests.
Graduate Capabilities
In addition to discipline knowledge, skills and their application, the study of this unit is intended to contribute to students developing
the capabilities needed to be:
,daptable and capable <=
st
century citi>ens who can communicate effectively, work collaboratively, think critically and
solve comple problems
"onfident, creative lifelong learners who can use their understanding of themselves and others to achieve their goals in
work and learning
In this unit you will receive feedback on your development of key aspects of the above graduate capabilities through:

!uring software implementations data transfer and the set'up of periodic#permanent interfaces is one of the most costly and time'
intensive work packages. %everal market studies have shown that, on average, data transfer accounts for <?@ of implementation
costs. In individual cases it can eceed that amount. In order to perform the initial data transfer from non'%,& systems, you need to
efficiently carry out the following steps:
=. Identify data to be transferred in the legacy system and, if possible, eliminate 5"lean up#filter7 obsolete data and inconsistent
data records at the same time.
<. (tract relevant data and write it to an ,%"II file.
A. "onvert the data from ,%"II format to the ob8ect'specific data format re4uired by %,&.

such as the number of open items or the number of materials in both systems. Lasic consistency checks are run during
loading, as 6#A does not allow the creation of inconsistent data sets.
Gou will be given two files 5both in the single spreadsheet file7, the first a file containing =33 records 59ile =7 of customer data. This

Introduction
)),( is an industrial company that is undergoing an %,& implementation The rollout has reached the phase of data
conversion and migration. This deliverable aims to show the procedures of how )),( &te. +td handled the data cleansing and
data mapping based on a list of employees who were using %,& system in )),(. The conversion is based upon a set of
business assumptions.
Details
Two files are used in this activity. The first file is a list of employees who are using %,& system. The list contains their contact
and %,& access information. %ome of the information is duplicated, and some information contains human'unreadable
characters or invalid data. The other file is a template that shows the re4uired layout format of the final output list.
The main ob8ectives of this activity were as follows:
Cark all the duplicated data with proper error flags.
Cark all the missing data with proper error flags.
$erify the human'unreadable characters, then take proper action on it. either remove the human'unreadable
character or correct the unreadable character.
$erify and mark all the invalid data with proper error flags, then correct it.
:nce the data is cleansed, map the data based on the templateEs pre'defined layout and create the final list.
9usiness Assumptions
The following is the list of business assumptions made in this activity.
!ata backup has been performed on the employeesE relevant data before the data cleansing and mapping activity.
The data backup is to prepare for any incidence in wrong data manipulation.
The head office of )),( is located in ,ustralia#%ing#India. !ocuments and reports must be displayed#printed in
(nglish. Grammar and spelling in all the documents and output reports follow the (nglish version. 9or eample, some
of the foreign salutations will be kept.
The final output list will serve as a global internal contact list that includes all the key employees who are involved in
the %,& Lusiness'Ly'!esign &ro8ect. ,s it is a contact list, some data such as the contact numbers, must be stated
in complete format with country code, area code, followed by the phone number.
)),( has started to use %,& system since =331.
The data source was etracted on A=

Carch <?=<.
Lefore the data etraction activity, a 8unior staff had eecuted a wrong program. That wrong program duplicated some
data in the database. It has also shifted some data to the wrong fields. In addition, some data has been overwritten
by wrong data or un'readable#,%"II codes.
