Ohio State PRSSA Accepting OSU Student Membership 2014 Fall Semester

Columbus, Ohio, July 25, 2014 The Ohio State Public Relations Student Society of America
(PRSSA) is accepting memberships for the 2014 school year.
PRSSA is open to every student at The Ohio State University, however the majority of the
previous and current members are students enrolled in the School of Communication.
Students interested in becoming members need to fill out an application. There is annual fee of
$75, which covers national and local dues.
Members have the opportunity to meet the organizations guess speakers, and hear about their
career experiences. In addition to networking with successful professionals, members are
prepared for their professional careers. Gaining guidance on interviewing skills and creating an
effective portfolio, resume, and cover letter is helpful during and after college.
Internship opportunities are frequently following through PRSSA. The president of the
organization passes on information regarding available internships in every aspect of the
industry.
Various members of PRSSA are also hold a position at The PRactice, a student-run public
relations firm. Team members gain real life experience working with actual clients. Students
help plan and execute communication campaigns for multiple companies. A good amount of the
work completed in The PRactice is excellent material for your portfolio.
PRSSA offers a Mentor and PeeR Program for its members. The Mentoring Program is designed
to jump start your professional career in communications. A student is matched with a
professional with similar interests and career goals. A members mentor is a great resource to
have. The PeeR Program is intended to connect upper classmen members and lower classmen
members of PRSSA. The program gives students an opportunity to meet new friends interested
in communications.
Members of PRSSA have the opportunity to gain leadership experience. The organizations
Executive Board includes positions such as president, vice president, PRactice firm director,
member relations, PR director, financial director, co-director of professional development, and
designer.
PRSSA meetings are held in Journalism Building room 360 at 6 p.m. every Wednesday during
the school year.

About Ohio State PRSSA
The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is a pre-professional organization for
students interested in careers in public relations, event planning, media relations,
communications, public affairs, advertising, marketing, or online communications after
graduation. The declared purpose of PRSSA is to cultivate a favorable and mutually
advantageous relationship between students and professional public relations practitioners. The
organization is made up of students from a variety of majors and years, freshmen through
seniors.
The Ohio State University was one of the original nine schools to host a PRSSA Chapter,
granted a charter on April 4, 1968. Today, The Public Relations Student Society of America has
more than 9,600 members in 284 universities across the country.
