This responds to your Freedom of Information Act request dated April 30, 2014, in which
you requested access to records concerning investigations conducted by the Department of
J ustice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation concerning Countrywide Financial Corp. and/or
Countrywide Home Loans, Inc., and Angelo Mozilo. Please note that this Office has
administratively divided your request into two request files. The subject of this correspondence,
Request No. CRM-300446982, is limited to the portion of your request for records concerning
Countrywide Financial Corp. and/or Countrywide Home Loans, Inc. The subject of CRM-
300449586 concerns the portion of your request for records concerning Angelo Mozilo, and was
previously addressed under separate cover. Please refer to Request No. CRM-300446982 in any
future correspondence with this Office regarding this response.

After carefully reviewing the records responsive to your request, this Office has
determined that the documents originated with a United States Attorneys Office and the Federal
Bureau of Investigation. In accordance with 28 C.F.R. 16.4(c) (2013), this Office referred that
material to the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) and the FBI for

For your information, Congress excluded three discrete categories of law enforcement
and national security records from the requirements of the FOIA. See 5 U.S.C. 552(c). This
response is limited to those records that are subject to the requirements of the FOIA. This is a

standard notification that is given to all our requesters and should not be taken as an indication
that excluded records do, or do not, exist.

Although I am aware that your request is the subject of ongoing litigation, and that
appeals are not ordinarily acted on in such situations, I am required by statute and regulation to
inform you of your right to file an administrative appeal. Your appeal must be in writing and
addressed to the Director, Office of Information Policy, United States Department of J ustice,
Suite 11050, 1425 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20530-0001, or you may submit an
