Photogrammetry
3D reconstruction using
Bundler and PMVS2
http://files.neonascent.net/photogrammetry-guide.pdf
Setup
1. Get the software needed
Mesh!a" from http##downloads.sourceforge.net#meshla"#Mesh!a"$%123a.e&e
Bundler Photogrammetry Pac'age from http##files.neonascent.net#S(M.)ip
2. *nstall Mesh!a"
3. +&tract S(M.)ip to c,
-. Ma'e sure you really did e&tract e%erything to c,S(M . your
e&amples folder should "e at c,S(M,e&amples /01 c,S(M,S(M, e&amples
http://files.neonascent.net/photogrammetry-guide.pdf
Sparse Point23loud reconstruction
1. 4dd your images to a new folder in c,S(M,e&amples,
2. 3opy Ma'e!ist."at into new folder and run to create list.t&t 5list of images6
3. 3opy sparse7econ8-."at into new folder and run it 5if you are using a 322"it system9 copy and
use the file :sparse7econ32 2 S!0; 2 only use without 8-."at<6
51his will ta'e a while6
5*f it crashes at this point9 reduce the num"er or si)e of images6
3amera 1ype Setup
Bundler needs to 'now some details a"out your camera. *t has a data"ase of information for
well2'nown cameras9 "ut you may need to add your to it. *f you see the message :=3ouldn>t find
33D width for camera ...?< when running Bundler9 you will need to add your camera 33D width.
1. 4dd you camera 33D details to ,S(M,"in,e&tract$focal.pl file
%ccd_widths = (
YOUR CAMERA => X.X,
"SunplusMM Spca1528" => 3.6, #1/"
"SO!Y "S#R$A1%%" => 23.&%%, #1.8" A'S$C CC"
1his information can "e found online.
2. *f your images do not ha%e any +@*( data attached 5for e&ample if you e&tracted them from
%ideo69 you can use the script +&*(write.%"s to add this information. 7un +@*(write.%"s in your
image directory9 and enter the details +@431!A as they appear in the e&tract$focal.pl file9
including identical case.

Dense Point23loud reconstruction
1. Copy denseRecon_batch.bat and denseRecon.vbs into new folder and run dense7econ.%"s
2. +nter the configuration %alues. Bse the recommended first time.
1he process may ta'e some time. 4t the end there should "e one or more .ply files in 5your
image folder6,pm%s,models
Aou can open them in Mesh!a" and e&amine them.

Mesh reconstruction
1. 0nce you ha%e one or more dense point2cloud .ply files9 open the first in Mesh!a"
2. 0pen any others as !ayers9 and select the layer "utton to %iew the layer stac'.
3. Select the :...< "utton on the layer ta" and select :(latten Visi"le !ayers<9 and ma'e sure
:delete layers< is unchec'ed.
-. Select :(ilters C Sampling C Verte& 4ttri"ute 1ransfer< and transfer "oth colour and normals
from the layers to the new :Merged Mesh<9 with the Ma& Distance Search percentage to D.D1D
E. Select the :Merged Mesh< in the !ayer stac'
8. Select :(ilters C Point Set C Surface 7econstruction Poisson< and use either 89 89 19 1 for a
Fuic' test9 or 119 89 19 1 for a highly detailed mesh. +&periment with different %alues of 0ctree
depth9 "ut "eware that the larger it is the longer it will ta'e.
G. Sa%e your mesh as an S1! file ready for printing.
