With the resent infusion of 30,000 troops being deployed to Afghanistan to
continue an already prolonged warring effort, I started to contemplate the true
reasons and nature of war. War and the ability to war is a mindset. This mindset is perpetuated through generation upon generation of egotistical human beings with their loyalties tied to abstract ideas and concepts. Normally, these concepts deal with ideas about territorial security and religious believe. This current increase in war by the United States is one such example. The United States of America is itself just an abstract concept developed by individuals over 200 years ago which has been expanded upon by all furthering generations who inhabit the certain geographical locations deemed to be considered the United States of America. This war has been billed in the interest of national security. This too is nothing more than an idea. Considering the vast majority of Americans were not affected physically during the attacks on September 11, 2001, the promotion and fighting of the war by a vast number of individuals from all across the country shows they are loyal to an abstract concept and not to their own personal safety. The mindset of the warring human is that of one trapped in an egotistical prison, a prison of the mind. While encapsulated in this prison, the warring human can only perceive themselves as the good, or the right, while they combat the bad, or the enemy. Both sides of the battle display this mindset and both act accordingly. Through this mindset horrible atrocities can be committed under the guise of heroic action. For the warring human believes himself to be the savior of his fellow correct thinkers, while the enemy must be the wrong and conquered as to protect the right. This loyalty to a country or to an idea of a divine being has lead many human beings to enact a heinous false morality and to feel satisfied by the extermination of his fellow man. The humans starting the war also perpetuate this mindset but normally do not buy into the extreme dedication and instead have ulterior motives. Most of the motives behind all wars have to do with a struggle for power and resources. Once it is realized that the resources needed to sustain the industrialized way of life are finite, fighting over these resources is inevitable. The human beings who achieve power and realize the necessity of acquiring as much of the total resources to sustain life as possible, know this must be done through trading and if that does not work, through force. While they operate under the guise of patriotism, in reality their motives are based on a constant struggle for power and for resources. This struggle calls for many individuals who must carry out the war if it to be successful. To achieve this, the leader must instill a sense of duty and responsibility into the masses. This is done by many tactics which result in a false flag patriotism. This results in the masses placing their loyalty into an abstract concept such as country or religion. Without the concept which is used as a rallying point, the populace fails to support the leader and the warring effort is lost. If told the true intentions of the need for resources and the stability of acquiring resources, the populace who has no direct tie to those resources, would surely not be willing to risk their lives. The most productive leaders in history are the leaders who have convinced their populace that they must fight for an idea and convince them that fighting is the way to liberation. Though liberty is just a concept as well and one man with a gun can take your idea of liberty away just as quickly as the idea of having it came to you. The only way to stop this cycle of existence lies in the abolition of the ego and the abolition of all ties to anything which can be used to carry out violence in the name of anything. As William Blake said, “When the doors of perception are cleansed, man will see things as they truly are, infinite.” In this infinity, man can view himself not as apart from the whole but as a part of the whole. With this mindset the need to acquire resources by one particular group at the expense another will fade away. In fact the view will not be of one group or another, but of one entire human race that shall provide for all at the expense of none.
