1. Invention of wheel Welcome to the session on
Invention of wheel.

2. Showthe OST Wheelon the screen and
then the image of the wheel coming
rolling from the left side of the screen in
the centre and then the VO begins
Add a continue button
Wheel
Click continue to proceed
The wheel is probably the most
important mechanical invention of
all time. Nearly every machine built
since the beginning of the Industrial
Revolution involves a wheel or the
idea of a symmetrical component
moving in a circular motion on an
axis. From tiny watch gears to
automobiles, jet engines and
computer disk drives, the principle
is the same. One would, therefore,
think that the inventor of the wheel
must have earned great fame and
fortune. But as a matter of fact, no
one even knows who the inventor
was.
So how did the wheel come into
existence? Let us go back to mans
early history.

3. Divide the screen in to 2 halves, In the

half show a potter making clay pots
with hand and in the 2
nd
half show a
man using a dog for transporting goods
After the VO ends, the potter image
would blink. The child has to click on
the potter
Before the invention of the wheel
man would do all his work
manually. To know the
development of wheel in mans life

4. When the child clicks on the potter, the
screen shows the man making pots with
his hands and the VO comes in sync
with the OST
Add a arrow button. The arrow would
blink. Child will click on it.

Shaping clay pots with hands The first man to use a wheel was
perhaps a potter. Man used to
make clay pots with his hands
which would take a longer time and
the shape would not be perfect.

5. Show a man using a horizontal wheel
for this purpose ( a round wooden plank
with a hole in the centre)
The VO begins in sync with the OST
Add a arrow button. The arrow would
Horizontal wheel used to shape

Later on, he started using a
horizontal wheel for this purpose
The wheel helped him to make
more shapely pots and also faster
than before.

take him to the 2

screen where both
the potter and the man transpoting
goods with the help of a dog. The 2

picture would blink and the child will
have to click on it

6. Show a man with a dog and loads
kept on its back.
Vo begins in sync with the OST.
Add a arrow button. The arrow
would blink. Child will click on it.
Dogs used for transporting goods Man first began to tame animals for
transporting goods. The first animal
to be tamed was the dog.

7. Show a man using a pack of dogs
and a frame of sticks with loads on
it and dogs pulling it.
Vo will come in sync with the OST
Add a arrow button. The arrow
would blink. Child will click on it.
Sledge Man soon discovered that a pack of
dogs could pull a fairly heavy load.
He made a frame of sticks, placed
loads on it and made dogs pull it.
This vehicle was called a sledge.
Sometimes the man himself sat on
the sledge and had a ride.

8. Show a man using bulls instead of
dogs with a sledge for transporting
goods
Vo will come in sync with the OST
Add a arrow button. The arrow
would blink. Child will click on it.
Other animals used in place of
dogs
Later animals like donkeys, mules,
horses, camels were also tamed
and trained. They were used either
for riding or for carrying goods.

9. Show a man with a bullock cart
with round sticks below the sledge
Vo will come in sync with the OST
Add a arrow button. The arrow
would blink. Child will click on it.
Rolling sticks used below the
sledge
Man had observed wooden logs
rolling downward. This perhaps
would have given him idea of
putting a few round sticks under a
sledge. Now it was easier to make it
move as rolling motion was better
than sliding motion as it reduces
friction considerably however this
was helpful to transport goods only
for short distances

10. Show a man with a bullock cart
with round sticks with 2 wheels on
either side and carrying a
passenger.
Vo will come in sync with the OST
Add a arrow button. The arrow
would blink. Child will click on it.
Pair of solid wheels used on the
rolling sticks
Man was looking for some means
for carrying himself and his goods
over longer distances with greater
speed and comfort. Later, wheel
came into existence by joining
planks of wood held together by
wooden struts, and were nearly
round in shape

one pair of wheels and a single

One pair of solid wheels and an
axle for free movement of wheels
The inventor of the wheel must
have cut two round discs from the
thick trunk of a tree, made holes
through their centres and an axle,
so that they could turn round freely
about it.

wheels.

Spoked wheels used These solid wheels were very heavy
and it was not easy to pull the carts
with such heavy wheels. That is
why, wheels were made with
spokes. The spoked wheelsin

collage of the images where wheel
is used
OST on top of the screen and the
VO will come.
Railways, Cars, aircrafts,
computers, clocks, wheel for
spinning cottom, stone mill for
flour grinding, clocks. These
images will keep blinking and the
child can click on any image to
zoom in and see the wheels rolling
in that image
For eg, if the child clicks on
railways, the wheels of the rails will
start rolling until he clicks on it
again

invention. It was invented only
