The Kohler Civic Club has re-

ceived Village Board approval to

place a new Veterans Memorial in
the Kohler Cemetery. The Memo-
rial will include a new lighted flag-
pole with five bronze bas-relief
panels attached to it. The panels
have been cast and are awaiting the
proper time to be installed into the
project.
The panel commemorating the
U.S. Marine Corp will display
service medals from all branches
of the military and bridge history
from the foundation of our country
to the present time. The medals
portrayed include a Purple Heart, a
Marine Good Conduct Medal, a
National Defense medal, a Distin-
guished Service Medal, and
medals for service in China,
Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War,
Afghanistan, and the War on Ter-
rorism and a Service Dogs medal.
The center shows the classic Ma-
rine image of the flag raising at
Iwo Jima. In the foreground is the
Marine bulldog mascot, and the
classic Marine Flag, Saber and
Gloves motif.
The Navy cast bronze panel for
the Veterans Memorial for the
Kohler cemetery is topped with the
Navy Seals insignia. A porthole
frames the center area and includes
a sailor shipping out. Behind him
is the Navy fleet and a SEABEE
flying above.
In making this piece specific to
Sheboygan County, it should be
noted that the image of the naval
training ship is the USS Ely that
was berthed at the Sheboygan
Naval Armory for many years. The
Kohler Civic Club is on track for a
dedication of the memorial in No-
vember of this year.
Now that the project has been
given the go-ahead, groundbreak-
ing will take place in the near fu-
ture and every effort will be made
to hold a dedication of this memo-
rial for Veterans Day, 2014.
Anyone in supporting this proj-
ect with donations are most wel-
come. Donations can be sent to

Firefighting apparatus from
around Sheboygan County will
roll through the Village of Kohler
on Saturday, August 23rd to cele-
brate Kohler volunteer fire depart-
ments centennial.
The parade will begin at 11:30
a.m., with staging at 10:30 a.m. in
the Kohler Co. parking lot located
north of the Human
Resources/Medical office at the
500 block of Highland Drive. The
parade route goes south on High-
land Drive to School Street, then
winds around West Park Lane,
Summit Road, Valley Road and
Upper Road back to Highland
Drive.
After the parade, all are wel-
come to enjoy an afternoon of
food, beverages, and live music at
Lost Woods Park at the junction
of Valley Road and Lower Falls
Road. Back by popular demand,
the highly acclaimed Skyhouse
Band will perform during the
gathering. A wet-down ceremony
for Kohlers new fire truck will
also take place.
Area fire departments heading
to the post-parade festivities at
Lost Woods Park should be ad-
vised that the railroad trestle over
Valley Road north of the park has
a clearance of only 12 feet, and an
alternate route should be taken.

Only about 38% of registered
voters in Kohler turned out for the
August 12 partisan primary elec-
tion. There were 556 voters and
three absentee ballots.
In the hotly contested races,
Tyler Vorpagel, who came in last
among Kohler voters in a three-
way race to fill a seat left vacant
by Steve Kestell in the 27th As-
sembly, went on to win for the Re-
publicans. Vorpagel received
2,202 votes, Darryl Carlson 2,034,
and Jackie Jarvis 1,782. Vorpagel,
who served as an aide for retiring
Congressman Tom Petri, will face
Democrat Scott Heinig of Ply-
mouth in November.
Senator Joe Leibham, who was
clear a favorite among Kohler vot-
ers to represent Republicans in the
race for the 6th Congressional Dis-
trict, is awaiting the results of a re-
count. Leibham trails Glenn
Grothman by a little over 200
votes. The victor will face Win-

SheboyganIt may be a long way
from Sheboygan, Wisconsin to
Hollywood, but a bit of the spirit
on the lake will find its way into
the hands of some of entertain-
ments biggest names.
Sheboygan entrepreneur Caitlin
Brotz, founder of Oliv 426, an-
nounced that her Anti-Aging/Mois-
turizing Face Serum and Lip Balm
will be included in gift bags col-
lated by The Artisan Group, at
the GBK Gift Lounge in Honor of
the Emmy Awards in Beverly Hills
on August 22-23.
Products selected for the gift
lounge are by invitation only. We
feel honored to be included. It al-
ways amazes me how far our client
base stretches from our small She-
boygan, Wisconsin shop, said
Brotz.
In 2006, Oliv 426 formally
opened its brick-and-mortar doors,
and a year later, began selling on-
line to reach a wider audience that
now stretches world-wide. The lip
balm and whipped lotion are
among the most popular items on
the product list, along with an array
of other all-natural products that
heal, protect and enhance face,
body, lips and hair, as well as col-
lections specifically formulated for
men and children. The Oliv hand-
pours products daily to ensure
freshness of the all-natural ingredi-
ents.
The anti-aging/moisturizing face
serum that celebrities will be re-
ceiving contains Brotzs propri-
etary blend of natural oils,
including pomegranate, blackberry
seed, rosehip and carrot seed oils
that nourish and detoxify the skin
with a lightly scented touch of
lavender oil. The all-natural hy-
drating lip balm has a kiss of
pomegranate flavorthe com-
panys favorite among its cus-
tomers.
Im excited to have Oliv 426
participate in the GBK Gift lounge
as a part of The Artisan Group,
and I cant wait to see which
celebrities receive the Anti-Aging
Serum and Lip Balm packs, says
Brotz. She added that the serum is
by far her most popular product,
accounting for 30% of Oliv 426
sales.
Brotzs shop, Oliv 426, is a fa-
vorite stop among tourists and lo-
cals alike in Sheboygan, where
visitors can customize natural per-
sonal care products on the spot by
choosing fragrances, colors,
essences and herbs to create soaps,
lotions, lip balms and other prod-
ucts to suit their tastes.
While I don't think our serum will
shut down any Beverly Hills plas-
tic surgery clinics any time soon,"
laughs Cailtlin, referring to the
Hollywood stereotype of a preoc-
cupation with youthfulness, I do
hope that our gift bag recipients
will love our age-defying duo.
The Anti-Aging Serum and Lip
Balm, as well as all other Olivu
products are available to the public
online at www.olivu426.com.

My high school friend, Cheri,
and I were thinking about our next
adventure. What do you do after
rafting the Colorado River for 6
days? We talked about Costa Rica.
Well, after finding out that former
Kohler resident Chris Atkins had
started his own Travel agency,
Central America Fishing, things
started to move forward. I con-
tacted Chris and told him the kind
of vacation we were interested in
taking.
Chris promptly responded with
exactly what we wanted, a few
days of adventure and some seri-
ous beach time. We were met at
the gate at the airport by one of
Chris employees. She escorted us
through customs to a duty free
shop and then to our waiting pri-
vate transfer. Chris also met us.
We traded string cheese and
cheese curds for some cold beer.
This was the beginning of a per-
fect vacation. Our first hotel in
Old high school friends hook

Arenal had a view of the volcano
in the rainforest area of the coun-
try. A beautiful property with all
the amenities any traveler would
want. From here we went zip lin-
ing over the canopy of the rainfor-
est, rappelling down waterfalls,
and a wildlife river float.
Our next hotel was right on the
beach. A dream come true. We
spent the next 3 days wandering
the beach in Tamarindo, body
boarding, eating fresh seafood at
beach restaurants, and going on a
snorkeling sunset cruise.
As always it is hard to leave a
perfect vacation behind, but I be-
lieve we will return to beautiful
Costa Rica. Thank you Chris!

Kyla - #C14-06-0376
Hi everybody, I'm Kyla! I'm a sweet little 1 year old orange
tabby that was found as a stray and brought into the shelter.
I'm so thankful that they brought me here because now it's
time for me to find a home of my own. I'm a gentle gal that
just wants to be pet and loved. I'd be purrfect in just about any
home so I do hope you'll come visit me today!

Birch - #D14-07-263
My name is Birch, a 3 year old Siberian Husky with stunning
blue eyes. I came in as a lost dog and was pretty disillusioned
when no one came looking for me. Oh well, now I am on the
search for a real home to call my own. I like meeting other
dogs, love my toys, enjoy going for walks and would make a
gorgeous addition to your family. Come in and see for your-
self! I'll be watching for you.

Last year Bethany Lutheran
Church (222 Church St. in Kohler)
introduced The Bethany Book
Club (BBC). We spent a whole
year studying The Story. This
years book club choice is Mak-
ing the Case for Christianity.
Making the Case is a book that
responds to many modern objec-
tions to Christianity from within
and outside our culture. Did you
ever take a religions of the world
class in college or at a university?
What do others religions say about
Christianity? What did you learn
about Christianity from your pro-
fessor? Do you have a precon-
ceived notion of Christianity? Is it
just like any other religion? Ever
wonder why people are hostile to-
wards Christianity? We will dis-
cuss these and many other
questions at our weekly book club
discussion this fall.
The eight week discussion will
be held on Tuesday evenings at 7
pm from September 9 through Oc-
tober 28th.
To sign up for the book discus-
sion call Bethany Lutheran Church
at 920-457-4681 during office
hours by September 3.
Bethany Office Hours: Monday
Wednesday from 8am - Noon.
Ava Childs, who will be en-
tering fifth grade at Kohler
Elementary School was the
featured youth artist at the
opening of a new art gallery
and studio in Sheboygan
Falls.
Storefront Gallery and Stu-
dio is committed to showcas-
ing the talents of local artists,
with equal focus on the works
of children and adults.
The artists of Storefront
Gallery and Studio will be
providing community work-
shops covering topics such as
printmaking, painting, draw-
ing, graphic design, and
more. Ava's works will be
on display for the month of
August. Storefront Gallery
and Studio is located at 404
Broadway in Sheboygan
Falls.
Two Kohler artists, Michele
Gutierrez and John Wheeler have
painted garden posts that will be
auctioned off at the Rock The Gar-
den fundraiser for Bookworm Gar-
dens, Friday, August 22 at
Christopher Farm and Gardens.
Michele Gutierrez is a well-
known artist and teacher who has
taught at UW-Milwaukee, UW-
Sheboygan and Lakeland College.
Michele has been working recently
on a series on bird painting and
feature birds on her Bookworm
Gardens fence post with a theme
of Birds of a Feather. Micheles
work can be seen at Two Fish
Gallery in Elkhart Lake, WI.
John Wheeler works with a va-
riety of media including paint,
photography, video, found objects
and wood to create connections
between Art and space science
through the use of iconic imagery.
Johns post is titled Local
Launch and features a carved
space ship and was inspired by

doubles for UH Hilo Mens Tennis
Team 1975-1979 and was the
Hawaii State Collegiate Tennis
Singles Champion in 1975.

in 1979, Santos joined Peter Bur-
wash International, an interna-
tional tennis management firm and
will be celebrating 35 years with

Team Head Coach: John Elmen-
dorf.
With the large number of sports
and activities that are available to
Kohler youth, it was important to
offer a program that allowed full
participation even on limited
schedules,said coach John El-
mendorf. The boys were invited
to play on the team knowing they
may only be available for 1-2
games or all games. Versatility
may have been the biggest part of
the team with each player being
provided an opportunity to play a
multitude of positions, including
13 of the 18 players pitching in a
game.
The team thanks Marcus Knuth,
Jeff Herold, Craig Stock, Robin
Stock, Amy Silvestri, Brian
Childs, Doug Bocchini, grounds
keepers, and all of the umpires and
parents for all their assistance and
support during the season.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., Aug. 11,
2014 Vintage racers from across
the U.S. will take to the track Sep-
tember 12-14 as Road America
hosts the Vintage Sports Car Driv-
ers Association (VSCDA) Elkhart
Lake Vintage Festival. The an-
nual celebration of vintage and
historic sports cars attracts nearly
300 cars to the famed 4-mile, 14-
turn road course and the fan-
friendly paddock is open to
spectators for close-up views of
amazing racing machines prepared
to era-specifications all weekend.
For 2014, the VSCDA intends to
pay tribute to sports cars produced
from Italian manufacturers as a
class feature, so fans can expect to
see a wide variety of classic sports
cars from several world-renowned
marques.
For the fifth year in a row
VSCDA will hold its popular Cup
races. The Kimberly, Sheldon, and
Elkhart Lake Cup races will take
place on Sunday. These Cup races
are based on the original races that
were held on the roads in and
around Elkhart Lake from 1950 to
1952. The Cup races are sure to be
close as grid positions are based
solely on times and not classes.
There will also be a special 2.5
Liter Trans Am race as the interest
and growth of this series continues
nationwide.
On Saturday the very popular
Street Course re-enactment leaves
the track around mid-afternoon.
The Street Course re-enactment is
a police-escorted tour of the origi-
nal racecourse that was ran before
Road America was established.
Along with Watkins Glen, these
roads are the only sets of roads to
be listed as a National Historic
Monument. For 23 years the re-en-
actment has attracted as many as
100 cars and when the cars are fin-
ished with the tour, they park on
part of the original street course in
the middle of downtown Elkhart
Lake for spectators to view until
the early evening.
Once the Street Course re-enact-
ment ends the Gather on the Green
event begins on the Osthoff re-
sorts back lawn. The Gather on
the Green event is a car show fea-
turing a wide variety of spectacu-
lar vehicles and motorcycles.
Tickets to the Elkhart Lake Vin-
tage Festival can be purchased at
the main gate which opens daily at
7 a.m. Kids 12 and under are free
when accompanied by a paying
adult. Parking is also free and all
races run rain or shine. For more
information call 800-365-7223.

Kohler Co., leading manufac-
turer of kitchen & bath plumbing
products, is pleased to add to its
successful line of KOHLER Orig-
inal Recipe Chocolates Terrapin
Toffee Bark. The Terrapin Toffee
Bark joins three existing Toffee
Bark flavors milk chocolate,
dark chocolate and hazelnut. The
new toffee bark includes the fla-
vors from the immensely popular
Original Butter y Terrapin, which
launched the business in 2007,
and remains one of the most pop-
ular chocolates the company pro-
duces.
With three layers to savor, the
Terrapin Toffee Bark starts with a
layer of homemade buttery toffee
with the next layer including a
soft and smoky caramel. Lastly,
its topped with milk chocolate
and finished with salted pecans.
Our goal was to use the sweet
and savory elements of our Origi-
nal Buttery Terrapin as inspira-
tion to create a new product,
said Anette Righi DeFendi,
Chocolatier for KOHLER Origi-
nal Recipe Chocolates. Our tof-
fee bark line is a huge hit so to be
able to extend that line with a nod
to the Original Buttery Terrapin is
a nice opportunity.
The Terrapin Toffee Bark is
available in 4 oz. boxes, both for
wholesale accounts as well as for
consumers. The Terrapin Toffee
Bark will be available in July on-
line at KohlerChocolates.com for
$6.99 per box or at select retail-
ers.
The Toffee Bark joins an al-
ready lauded line of KOHLER
Original Recipe Chocolates that
includes a variety of tasty morsels
including by not limited to: Origi-
nal Buttery Terrapins, Kohler
Co.s version of the turtle. Ex-
pertly crafted, these turtles are set
apart from the ordinary offering
the perfect blend of chocolate,
salted pecans and smoky, burnt
caramel. Also available in Black-
strap, Java and Cranberry.
Perfect as sparkling gems, Rare
Facets are artfully-created to cap-
ture the complexity and beauty of
63% dark chocolate paired with
flavors such as Pineapple, Sour
Cherry, Cranberry-Raspberry,
Blueberry, Mandarin Ginger and
Pomegranate.
The Garden Ganache is the
faultless chocolate for that person
who truly appreciates a beautiful
piece of art. Inspired by garden
varietals, the colors of these
hand-painted milk chocolates hint
at their unique flavors each ele-
gant, artistic and delicious. The
Garden Ganache top-selling fla-
vors include: Raspberry, Crme
Fraiche, Hazelnut Coffee and
Passion Fruit.
An experience for all the
senses, KOHLER Original
Recipe Chocolate Bars are avail-
able in Milk and Dark Chocolate,
Hazelnut Crunch, Mint, Peanut
Butter and Cherry Almond.
