Talk No. 2 Does the Bible Say that Some will Never be Saved?

Karen: I read your magazine. It mentions that God will destroy wicked
people. Does the Bible actually say this?
Shalom: Yes, it does. 2 Thessalonians 1:9 mentions this. I can read this for
you. (READ) Apostle Paul wrote this scripture. He talked about people
who do not want to know about Gods purposes, people who are
stubborn and disobedient. What will happen to these kind of people?
Karen: They will undergo judicial punishment of everlasting destruction.
Shalom: Yes. What does everlasting destruction mean?
Karen: Does it mean theyll be destroyed forever?
Shalom: Yes. They will not be saved. Since their destruction is everlasting,
they wont be resurrected, meaning they have no hope of living again.
Karen: That sounds very cruel. Why would a God of love punish people so
cruelly?
Shalom: It may sound cruel, but actually, destroying wicked people is an
act of love on Gods part. Consider this illustration. When a patient
develops gangrene on a certain part of his body, what would the doctor
do?
Karen: The doctor will have to cut off the infected limb.
Shalom: Yes. If the doctor doesnt do that, what would happen?
Karen: The gangrene will spread to other parts of the patients body.
Shalom: Yes. Because the doctor cares for his patient, he amputates the
infected limb for the good of his patient. Similarly, wicked people are like
gangrene. If God doesnt remove them, what would happen?
Karen: The whole earth will be filled with wicked people as they would
influence others.
Shalom: Exactly. God loves people and wont allow evil to snuff out good
completely. Dont you think its Gods love that moves him to take drastic
measures against the wicked?
Karen: Yes, its an act of love.
Shalom: The Bible mentions of people who are like gangrene. Lets see
what type of people God will wipe out. Lets read Revelation 21:8. Could
you please read this?
Karen: (READ Revelation 21:8)
Shalom: This scripture mentions about.... fornicators, liars.... people who
are like gangrene. What will happen to these people?
Karen: Their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur,
which is the second death
Shalom: Do you know what that means?
Karen: No, I dont know.
Shalom: (read... second death) Second death is a direct judgement from
Jehovah God, and there is no resurrection for them, no hope for them to
live again. So the Bible does mention that some people will never be
saved. God will soon act to destroy all wicked ones, but save those who
love him into a righteous new world.
Karen: I see. Thanks for sharing this point with me.
