The Young Professionals Programme (YPP) has two objectives to bring fresh talent to the United Nations from un- and under-represented countries, and to recognise talent already in the Organization among staff members in the General Service and related categories, as well as in the Field Service category (FS- 5 and below).
Through a competitive examination, successful candidates will be placed at the P-1 or P-2 level with access to special training opportunities. The same examination is taken by Secretariat staff and external applicants. In 2013, the YPP examination will take place on 3 December 2013 in the following job families: Administration Finance Legal Affairs Public Information Statistics

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS External applicants who wish to sit the examination must: be 32 years or younger at the end of the examination year (born on or after 1 January 1981); be a national of a participating country (the list of participating countries is published annually and varies from year to year); hold at least a first-level university degree, relevant to the job family in which they would like to take the examination. Please refer to the Careers Portal for the list of acceptable fields of study for each job family; be fluent in either English or French (knowledge of other official United Nations language is an asset). If they: are a staff member of the United Nations Secretariat serving in the General Service and related categories including Field Service category, FS-5 and below; have a valid UN appointment until at least until 3 June 2014. (At a minimum, you will need to attach a letter from your Executive Office stating the intent to renew your contract until 3 June 2014 as part of your application.); are a national of a participating country (the list of participating countries is published annually and varies from year to year); are 32 years or younger at the end of the examination year (born on or after 1 January 1981); have a rating of at least successfully meets performance expectations in your last available performance assessments. (Please attach last available performance assessments to your application.); hold at least a first-level university degree, relevant to the job family in which you would like to take the examination. Please refer to the Careers Portal (www.careers.un.org) for the list of acceptable fields of study for each job family. (The requirement for a three-year first level university degree may be waived for applicants who have post-secondary academic qualifications and who have five years of continuous service in the United Nations Secretariat by 31 December 1989.); are fluent in either English or French (knowledge of other official United Nations languages is an asset).
