Purpose
This document describes the procedures for installing Nagios monitoring agent, NSClient++, on a target Microsoft Windows desktop or
server for the purposes of monitoring that machine with Nagios

Target Audience
This document is intended for use b% Nagios &dministrators and !T desktop support staff who wish to monitor their Windows machines
and are familiar with installing Windows applications#
Alternative Agents
NSClient++ is one of man% agents that can be used to monitor Windows devices# This document will go through the installation and
use of NSClient++ however, for ease of use and greater functionalit%, Nagios 'nterprises recommends using a multi(platform agent
called NC)& that can be downloaded for Windows, *inu+, and Mac devices# ,or more information on NC)&, view the documentation

NSClient++ Overview
,irst, the NSClient++ agent must be downloaded# There are two wa%s to do this-
/irect download from Nagios ! web interface when using the Windows /esktop or Windows Server monitoring wi$ards
Direct download from the NSClient++ downloads page at http-..nsclient#org.nscp.downloads
The NSClient++ agent must be installed on the target Windows machine and configured before Nagios can monitor s%stem metrics,
services, processes, or performance data on the target machine#
Installing The Agent
*og on to the windows machine %ou wish to install the NSClient++ agent on#
/ownload the NSClient++ installer package to the target machine and navigate
to the download location# The file should be named similar to NSClient++(

welcome screen will appear# Click Net to continue to the ne+t step#

:ou ma% customi$e the installation options on the ne+t screen if %ou wish#
No changes are re;uired for a working installation of the agent# Click Net to
continue#
!f an e+isting NSClient++ installation e+ists on the target machine, %ou will have
the option of using the old configuration file# This option is not enabled if this is
the first time %ou are installing the client# Click Net to continue#

!n the ne+t step %ou will need to configure the NSClient++ agent# These steps
are important< Make sure %ou-
'nter the !) address of the Nagios ! or Nagios Core server in the
Allowed hosts bo+#
'nter a password in the NSClient password bo+ that will be re;uired
for communication between the Nagios server and the Windows
machine#
Check the following bo+es in the Modules to load section-
&na-le co//on chec; plugins
&na-le nsclient server <chec;=nt>
Click Net to continue#
Click the Install button on the ne+t screen to begin the installation#
When the installation completes, make sure to check the Start service option
and click 9inish to complete the setup#
The NSClient++ agent will now be running as a service, which means the
Windows machine is read% to be monitored with Nagios#
