Part - General nformation
Language of nstruction
1he Lnglish language is the oicial language o instruction at the German Uniersity in Cairo. GUC oers
study programs in Lnglish language in order to cope with the immensely growing and latest deelopment in the
technological ields worldwide, the international and local labor market and oster students with all possible
tools o success. All communication, lectures, coursework, and documentation are perormed using the Lnglish
language. 1hereore, new applicants must perorm and pass the GUC Lnglish language admission test as a
prerequisite or being accepted at the Uniersity.

German Language
1he German Uniersity in Cairo strongly supports and encourages learning the German Language. All
undergraduate students admitted to the uniersity must study and pass seeral German Language courses. 1he
German language is taught in order to qualiy students or internships in Germany as well as student exchange
programs, to acilitate their training in German Companies and to enable them to continue postgraduate studies
or research in Germany.

8ystem of 8tudy
GUC is committed to using the Luropean Credit 1ranser system ,LC1S,. Its Credit point system is used as
the basis or transerring marks and credits or student`s records to create curricula with international
compatibility and acilitating academic recognition according to Luropean standards.

Academic ntegrity
Being a high quality uniersity with a mission to achiee excellence in both teaching and research, as well as
ostering an excellent and sel-contained intellectual atmosphere o work and study, the German Uniersity in
Cairo strongly discourages and resists any orm o iolation o its academic integrity policy. Any orm o
cheating, plagiarism, alsiication, impersonation, eidence concealment, or abrication o results are some o
many iolations strongly resisted and opposed by the German Uniersity in Cairo.

8tudent Advising and Counseling
All students are entitled to receiing adising and counseling rom academic sta members as relates to their
intended course o study. Adisors and students can meet together to discuss uture study plans, and counsel
students haing problems with their academic program.

Part II General Undergraduate Regulations
Admission
As an Lgyptian priate uniersity, GUC complies with the admission regulations rom the Supreme Council or
Lgyptian Uniersities and Priate Uniersities Council o the Ministry o ligher Lducation. 1he Priate
Uniersities Council sets the general rules that regulate the admission to priate uniersities including the
minimum academic requirements or acceptance at priate uniersities. 1hese rules include the minimum ligh
School Scores to be obtained by the applicants, the qualiying subjects required by each secondary school
certiicate or each study group, the documentations needed or registration, etc.
1he German Uniersity in Cairo admits undergraduate students mainly once a year, in the \inter semester.
Based on aailability o places, second admission may be allowed or the Spring semester. Applicants must
apply or admission beore the declared deadline which can be obtained rom the uniersity admissions oice.
All applicants must complete all required documentation upon applying or admission. 1he German Uniersity
in Cairo cannot guarantee admission o a student with incomplete documentation.
1he Lgyptian Ministry o Lducation mandates that all students admitted to uniersity must hae completed a
minimum o eleen years o education or oreign certiicates such as IGCSL, American Diploma, etc.
Applicants must submit proo o their eleen years o primary and secondary education.

GUC Admission Process

According to GUC mission, the uniersity seeks to attract academically outstanding, creatie and dynamic high
school graduates to pursue academic excellence in studying and research, as well as to deelop their personal
capabilities and potentialities.
GUC Philosophy is to build on points o strength in students. 1his is relected in the ealuation process o
applicants, which includes- in addition to the inal high school scores-the GUC Admission 1ests which consist
o:

1. GUC Reasoning 1est: lasts or 50 minutes and includes questions that are classiied into categories according
to their types namely: erbal comprehension and relationships, induction, acts and results, deduction and
discoery,.

2. GUC Computerized Lnglish Language 1est: lasts or 45 minutes and is made up o 3 sections: language use,
reading comprehension, and listening comprehension. It aims at inding out whether the student can study
without diiculty in lectures, and in reading textbooks and lecture notes at an Lnglish speaking uniersity.

Passing GUC Admission 1ests is a prerequisite or admission. 1he students who are admitted at GUC are
those who pass both the Reasoning and Lnglish Admission 1ests as well as meet the Uniersity academic
requirements including haing the qualiied subjects and obtaining at least 5 higher than the minimum score
set by the Council o Priate Uniersities o the Ministry o ligher Lducation or the chosen study group.

The English Placement Exam

Ater passing the admission tests and being accepted, the student will sit or the Lnglish Placement Diagnostic
Lxam to determine the Lnglish leel the student will study along with the other mainstream courses. 1he
Lnglish Placement Diagnostic Lxam aims at placing the students into homogeneous classes suited or their
needs. 1he placement exam is computerized except or the writing part and is made up o section similar to
those o the Lnglish admission exam with arying leels o diiculty.

1he Lnglish placement diagnostic exam places ully accepted students into one o two leels: the Academic
Lnglish leel and the Introductory Lnglish leel.

In the Academic Lnglish leel, the students study our credit subjects oer a two year span. 1he our credit
subjects are: Lnglish or Academic Purposes, Introduction to Scientiic Method, Research Paper \riting, and
Communication and Presentation Skills.

In the Introductory Lnglish leel, the students study an extra non-credit subject as a prerequisite to studying the
our credit subjects. 1he prerequisite subject, Introduction to Academic Lnglish, in addition to the our credit
subjects are also planned oer a two year span.

Academic Oualifications for GUC Admission

1he academic requirements or GUC Admission ary according to the high school certiicate obtained.

Transfer Admission

Lach year GUC will admit a small number o transer students supported by a proen record o achieement at
a recognized and reputable uniersity in Lgypt or rom out side Lgypt through a Committee on 1ranser
Admissions which will study and approe the requests rom the qualiied students interested in transerring to
GUC.

Criteria for Eligibility as a Transfer Applicant

Once a student has completed one semester o ull-time study at a single uniersity, he or she ordinarily may
apply to GUC only as a transer student. lurther guidelines or eligibility are as ollows:

Minimum Enrollment Years at GUC

A minimum o three years ,six successully attended semesters, ull-time enrollment at GUC as a degree
students or 5 - year B.Sc. degrees and two and hal years ,ie successully attended semesters, ull-time
enrollment at GUC as a degree students or 4-year B.Sc. degrees is required or GUC's B.Sc. or BA.. ,In case o
special agreement with special institutions this may be dierent,.

Transfer Credits

According to the Luropean Credit 1ranser System L1CS and based on the recommendations o the
Committee on 1ranser Admissions, transer credit could be approed proided that these courses are
substantially the same in both content and quality as the equialent o GUC courses and with a good
perormance according to the 1ranser Admission Committee decision.

Grade Transfer

1he transerred grade will be (1R) grade. It will be included in the total hours required to complete the study
program or graduation, but the GPA will be calculated based on the courses attended and completed at GUC.

8election of Academic Program

1ranser students will select a aculty , major immediately upon matriculation at GUC.

Admission Requirements for Transfer 8tudents

1ranser students will be accepted at GUC proided that they meet the ollowing:
1. 1hey ulill GUC regular admission requirements including the attainment o high school certiicate ,
Al-1hanawiyya Al-Amma or its equialent, with a score complying with the Supreme Council o the
Lgyptian Uniersities regulations or the year during which this certiicate was obtained.
2. Submit Oicial records ,Oicial 1ranscript, o the courses taken with detailed course descriptions
stamped rom an accredited uniersity - including the credit hours and grades achieed.
3. Comply with GUC admission requirements including passing the admission tests ,the reasoning and
the Lnglish Language tests, and obtaining the qualiying subjects or the required ield o study.
4. Submit the brochure , Catalogue o the institution.

Readmission

Students who withdraw rom the Uniersity or one or two semesters and are willing to return to GUC can
apply or readmission. 1heir standing will be examined by the concerned aculty. Based on space-aailability in
the requested aculty, those students with good perormance records and good academic standing will be
accepted or re-admission to pursue their studies at GUC. Students will receie adising or the courses to be
studied. Students can only apply or readmission within a maximum o two years rom their withdrawal
proided that the minimum study period at GUC is 60 o the whole study period or the Bachelor's degree.

8tudy Regulations

1he GUC is oering a ariety o study programs each o which is leading to a designated academic degree. lor
each study program, one o the aculties ,IL1, ML1, LMS, P&B, Man. 1ech., is responsible or the courses to
be deliered according to the study program`s curriculum.

All students are members o one o the study groups ,engineering, biological sciences, management, in which
they share the same schedule beore branching to the specialization o their study program.

8electing a 8tudy Group / Faculty

Upon admission to the uniersity, students will select one o the aailable study groups at the uniersity to
pursue their studies. Students will then hae to abide by the rules and regulations goerning the course o study
within such study group in order to achiee successul completion o the designated program.

Changing the 8tudy Group / Faculty

A student has the right to request changing his study group proided that there is a space aailable in the
requested aculty, that the student meets the academic requirements o the requested study group in terms o
the qualiying subjects and minimum high school score. 1he student must ill out a Change Study Group orm
to the registration oice during the irst two weeks o a semester. Upon reiew and approal o the request, the
change o study group is to be eectie immediately. A transer credit committee will determine which courses
are to be counted or the student upon transer. Students howeer must be aware that changing study group
may cause signiicant academic delay in graduation.

8electing a Ma]or

Students will hae a ree decision to select one o the aailable majors within a laculty to pursue their studies.
1he time o the decision will depend on each aculty ,please reer to the program structures or each aculty,.
Students will receie orientation sessions , adising to introduce them to the aailable majors in order or them
to choose the majors o their interests. Students will then hae to abide by the deadlines or registration, rules
and regulations goerning the course o study within such major in order to achiee successul completion o
the designated program.

8emester Regular Academic Load

1he Luropean Credit 1ranser System ,LC1S, is the study contract between the Uniersity and the student.

According to the LC1S, the aerage ull-time undergraduate students` workload is about 30 credit points per
semester. In ery special circumstances, students may be allowed to exceed the aboe load based on the
recommendation o the academic adising personnel based on their academic perormance in the preious
semesters.

A ull-time student at GUC is expected to take not less than 60 o the regular study load. Otherwise, a
student carrying less than 60 o the regular study load will not be considered a ull-time student at GUC.
lence, the student will not be allowed to be registered with the Ministry o ligher Lducation, and i applicable,
a student will not be eligible to receie a Military Deerment Certiicate.

Maximum 8tudy Duration

1he maximum duration o study allowed or students with exceptional cases to graduate orm the German
Uniersity in Cairo should not exceed an additional o 65 o the normal study duration o any program
oered at GUC

Under exceptional circumstances, a student enrolled at GUC may be allowed an extended study duration period
semester wise. 1his may be allowed in one ,or combination, o the ollowing cases:

A student is placed on probation during the course o his, her study ,maximum two instances o
probation are allowed,
A student carrying a study load less than the regular load or some reason ,pertaining to poor academic
standing, or or other reasons,

Grading 8ystem

Lach course is assessed indiidually upon its completion. Methods o assessment include written, oral and
practical examinations, research papers, course assignments and practical work. 1he Luropean Credit 1ranser
System ,LC1S, is the basis or transerring credits into grade point aerages, calculated according to the
ollowing scale:

l: 1he student has been judged not to hae satisied the stated objecties o the course. Credit or a course in
which the grade l has been receied can only be obtained by repeating the Lxam and passing it.


ncomplete Grades

lX: 1he student has been judged not to hae satisied the stated objecties o the course due to excused
absence in the inal exams. Credit or a course in which the mark lX has been receied can only be
obtained ater passing the exams. 1he lX will not be counted in the GPA until a passing grade is
obtained.
I1h: Incomplete 1heoretical: In courses with practical and theoretical parts, the student has been judged
not to hae satisied the stated objecties o the theoretical part o the course. Credit or a course in
which the mark ,I1h, can only be obtained ater passing the theoretical exam within maximum one year.
1he I1h will not be counted in the GPA until a passing grade is obtained
IP: Incomplete Practical: In courses with practical and theoretical parts, the student has been judged not
to hae satisied the stated objecties o the practical part o the course. Credit or a course in which the
mark ,IP, can only be obtained by passing the practical exam within maximum one year. 1he IP will not
be counted in the GPA until the a passing grade is obtained
Grades Averaged in the GPA

1he ollowing grades aerages are calculated and used as measuring deice or determining the academic leel
the students has reached.

Semester grade point aerage is calculated using the hours o the courses attempted and the corresponding
numeric grades alue earned or the semester.

Graduate cumulatie grade point aerage is calculated using the total number o graduate hours o the courses
successully attempted at the German Uniersity in Cairo and the corresponding total number o numeric
grades earned at German Uniersity in Cairo.

In the ollowing, it is explained how a grade point aerage ,GPA, is computed.

How to Compute a GPA
1. Multiply the number o numeric grade earned by the number o
hours or the course,
2. Add all hours together,
3. Add all grade points together,
4. Diide the total grade points by the total number o hours.

Types of GPA 8cores
Semester GPA: All attempted courses in which the student receies a grade or the respectie
semester are included in the calculation o the Semester GPA. In the eent that candidates ail in a
course and are required to be re-assessed, the new grade obtained shall replace the preious l grade in
the calculation o the cumulatie GPA,
Cumulative GPA: All courses in which the student receies a grade or each semester are included in
the calculation o the Cumulatie GPA. In the eent that candidates ail in a course and are required to
be re-assessed, the new grade obtained shall replace the preious l grade in the calculation o the
cumulatie GPA,
Major / Graduation GPA: All successully passed mandatory courses within the major in which the
student receied a grade ,all mandatory courses must be passed within the major in order or a student
to graduate, or each semester are included in the calculation o the Major GPA.

Courses or which candidates are gien an l grade shall not be counted towards the degree.

8emester Grade Reports and Transcripts

Semester Reports: at the end o eery semester the inal grades o all attempted courses and GPA obtained are
aailable or the students using the Student Administration System on the \eb.

1ranscript: includes all undergraduate and graduate credit courses successully completed at the German
Uniersity in Cairo. Oicial transcripts should be requested at least two weeks prior to the date needed.

Minimum Graduation Grade

A minimum cumulatie "D-" and Aerage ,3.0 GPA, is required to graduate orm the German Uniersity in
Cairo.


English and German Language Courses

1he Lnglish language courses consist o two leels, an Introductory ,Ordinary, Lnglish Leel ,non-credit,
and an Adanced Academic Leel ,or credit,. A passing grade should be achieed in the Introductory
,Ordinary, Leel Lnglish within one academic year as a pre-requisite or attending the Adanced Academic
Leel. 1he credits o the Lnglish Language course are included in the GPA o each semester. loweer, or
the calculation o the top ranked students, the Lnglish language courses will not be included. 1he credit o the
Lnglish language courses will be considered in order to improe the GPA and in the up-grading o the
scholarship categories. 1he weight o the credits awarded per study hours or the Adanced Lnglish Academic

ourth or ith semester. 1he credits o the German Language course are included in the GPA o each semester.

1he credit o the German language courses will be considered in order to improe the GPA and in the up-
grading o scholarship categories. 1he weight o the credits awarded per study hours or the German Language

Drop / Add Courses
Although dropping courses is allowed under uniersity policy, it is or the students beneit to take the assigned
ull load in order to be able obtain the Bachelor degree in the regular course o study. 1hereore, it is adisable

that students dedicate all their eorts to learning and to other Uniersity actiities to enjoy the ull adantage o
their education.

\ithdrawal or Dropping course,s, in one semester does not mean that the course,s, will be aailable in the
ollowing semester. 1he student may be delayed or one or two whole semesters to be able to take the course,s,
again. \ithdrawal or Dropping course,s, may delay students` graduation. 1he minimum semester load is 60
o the weekly hours load.

Students are allowed to add courses within the irst two weeks o classes.
Deadline or students who are allowed to drop courses is 4 weeks ater the start o the semester
Maximum number o courses to be dropped is two courses ,or orce majeure cases may extend to 3
courses, - proided that they do not exceed the minimum allowed load o 60 o the regular
Academic study load per semester.
A student who drops one or two courses is not entitled to any reund, howeer, the student is allowed
to add one or two courses , according to the number o courses dropped, in the ollowing semesters
without additional charges.

Withdrawal from University

Students who are unable to complete a semester or a degree may electiely withdraw rom the uniersity.
Students must ill an oicial withdrawal orm with the uniersity admission and registration oice.

Students who withdraw rom uniersity and wish to return at a later date must apply or readmission. Students
can only apply or readmission within a maximum o two years rom their withdrawal. 1he students standing
will be examined or the requested aculty. Based on aailable space in the requested aculty, those students
with good academic perormance records will be accepted or re-admission to pursue their studies at GUC.
Students will receie adising or the courses to be studied.

Students who submit registration orm or a semester and who decide not to attend must ile an oicial
\ithdrawal,Leae o Absence orm.

Continuing students ,students who are beyond their irst year o enrollment, withdrawing rom the
Uniersity
o Beore classes start are eligible to receie ull reund o tuition and ees, excluding non-
reundable deposits.
o During the irst two weeks o classes are eligible to receie a reund o ,5 percent, o their
tuition,
o During the third week, ,50 percent,,
o During the ourth week, ,25 percent,,
o Ater the ourth week o classes, there will be no reund.


Attendance

Attendance at lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical classes is an integral part o uniersity studies and
students are expected to be regular and punctual in their attendance.

Students are expected to attend the uniersity on a ull-time basis during each semester. Attendance is checked
during seminars, tutorials and labs.
Attendance checks take place at any time rom the beginning or end o seminars, tutorials and labs. Students
must attend at least 5 o the tutorials and practical labs. I absence exceeds the allowed percentage: 25
,either excused or unexcused, in the same course, the student will not be allowed to sit or the exam o the
releant subject and will hae to drop the course and retake the course when aailable.
In the eent o an excused absence:

No make up will be gien or the missed assignments or quizzes.
1he lecturer will select best 2 out o 3 Or 3 out o 4 quizzes or assignments or the beneit o the
student and in case o absence during a quiz or an assignment, the student will miss the opportunity o
selecting the best quizzes or assignments and will be ealuated on the remaining quizzes and
assignments.

Practical Laboratories Absence:

1. Students who exceed the unexcused,excused percentage o absence in the Practical Labs, but do not
exceed the limit o absence in 1utorials and Lectures will be permitted to only the theoretical inal
exam and not to the practical inal exam within the ollowing two semesters.
2. 1he grade o the whole course will be IP` ,Incomplete Practical, and the student will hae to attend
only the practical course again wheneer is aailable.
3. 1he grades o the theoretical part will be kept and added to the grades o the practical part when
attended and the course grade is then calculated and announced.

8tudents Administration 8ystem

In order or GUC students to able to progress with their program o study satisactorily, they need to monitor
their perormance throughout the semester.

1he student administration system is designed in order to help GUC students during their study at GUC to
continue successully toward achieing their degrees.

1he system proides students with access to the inormation that will enable them to monitor their
perormance including up-to-date inormation such as:

1. Semester work records ,Quiz, Assignments,,
2. Attendance records
3. Mid-term exam results
4. linal exam results
5. 1he results o the preious semesters

Students are required to check their perormance on weekly basis so that they can ollow up on their
perormance status regularly.

Examination Regulations

Purpose of Examinations

1he Bachelor degree is a irst academic degree in all GUC laculties qualiying or job practice. It can be
asserted through the examinations to demonstrate i the candidate has the essential technical basic knowledge
to be able to practice a job, to practice this knowledge, and to integrate seeral questions into a proessional
context. 1he qualiying Bachelor degree is a requirement or the master degree course according to the
admission regulations o GUC or the Master Degrees.
8tructure and Period of Examinations

1he examination system consists o:
Course work includes assignments, seminars, projects and presentations. 1he total grade o course
work should carry a weight between 10 and 30 o the total course grade i quizzes, midterm and
inal term exams exist.

Quizzes: A 10-20 minute exam or computer-based test that may be conducted beore the mid-term and
the inal exam, according to the course requirements. Quizzes should be gien rom time to time with a
range between 3 to 4 quizzes per semester rom which the best 2 out o 3 or 3 out o 4 should be
counted in the grade. 1he total grades o the quizzes should not carry a weight more than 20 o the
total course grade, i course work, midterm and inal term exams exist.
One Mid-semester exam that coers approximately hal the course material. 1he grade o this exam
should carry a weight between 20 and 30 o the total course grade, i quizzes, assignments and inal
term exam exist.
linal semester subject examinations: are to be done during the last two weeks o eery semester. 1he
grade o this exam should carry a weight between 40 and 50 o the total course work i quizzes and
midterm exam exist. Students who score less than 30 o the grade o the inal exam should get an
l` in that subject irrespectie o his course work grade ,quizzes, assignments, midterm.,
Courses with Practical and 1heoretical part: the weights or the course ealuation will be based on
course description. 1he student should obtain a minimum passing grade o 50 in the practical part in
order to pass the practical part successully.
Types of Examinations

Lxaminations may be one o three types, or their combination:

Oral examinations:
o Oral examinations last or 30 minutes. 1he examinee should proe that he,she has depth
knowledge o the context o the tested area.
o Oral exams are conducted by an examiner in the presence o expert subordinate , external
examiner, assistant as single exams. ,1he assessment o the grade o the exam takes place in
absence o the examinee,s,.
o A protocol is done in oral examination. It should comprise the names o the examinees, o
the examiner and the assistant as well as the time o the exam, a description in brie outlines o
the topics tested and the result o the exam. 1he protocol has to be signed by the examiner
and the assistant. 1he examinee has to be inormed with the result o the respectie exam
aterwards.
Written examinations:
o \ritten tests usually last or about 90 to 180 minutes according to the number o credits and
the scope o the examined course. 1he examinee has to proe that he,she can recognize a
problem and can ind ways to sole it within limited time in the presence o restricted aids
o 1he Lxamination Oice usually announces the examination results aterwards.

o A protocol has to be made during written exams, in which special happenings, especially
attempts o the examinee to inluence the results o the test through deception or other not
admissible aids, hae to be noted. 1he protocol has to be signed by the superisor and to be

Practical examinations:
o Practical examinations may last or 30 to 180 minutes, and may increase in some circumstances,
according to the type o the practical course. 1hese exams are conducted by the course
instructor and assistant. 1he results o the respectie exam are announced together with the
results o other exams by the Lxamination Oice.
Evaluation of Examinations

1he grades or each examination achieement hae to be determined by the respectie examiners. 1he grades
hae to be designated according to the preiously mentioned grading scale.

8eminars

Seminars are assessed by attendance, actie contribution o the student in discussion or by the presentation o a
speciic course topic.

nternship

1he job-related work should hae a scope o at least 6 weeks according to the curricula or each study program
and has to be perormed during the lecture-ree period ,summer recess, o the Bachelor degree course (300
hours are required for Pharmacy). Internship is a must or graduation and students will be ealuated. 1his
actiity can be carried out in all public and priate institutions in Lgypt and abroad that gie the students the
opportunity to obtain experience in practicing a job position related to the respectie ield o study. 1he
placement oice together with the personal adisor will help students ind an appropriate internship.

Absence, Withdrawal, Deception, and Violations

An exam achieement is regarded as ail,` when the examinee misses an exam date without
appropriate reasons or when he or she, ater start o the exam, withdraw rom the exam without proper
reasons. 1he Board o examiners makes the decision on this.
Reasons made alid or withdrawal or absence hae to be presented immediately in a written orm to
the chairman o the board o examiners and justiied.
In case o illness a medical certiicate is required rom the uniersity clinic. Justiiable reasons or
withdrawal at the date o the exam hae to be explained to the exam superisor, oicer immediately
and hae to be justiied.

I the Board o examiners accepts the reasons, a new date is set or the exam will be repeated during the
make-up exams period. 1he student will receie a grade o lX. I the reasons are not accepted, the
exam is ealuated as ail`.
I the examinee tries to inluence the exam results by means o deception or the use o orbidden aids,
the concerned exam results counts as ail`.
An examinee that disturbs the regular course o an exam can be excluded o urther participation on
other exams by the examiner or the superisor. 1he concerned exam result in this case counts as ail`.
1he board o examiners decides on the recognition o reasons or absence or withdrawal. 1he
examinee has to be inormed with the board`s decisions by the GUC Lxamination Oice.
Repeating Examinations

Subject Lxaminations that are not passed or are considered to be not passed can be repeated twice
according to the ollowing repetition policies and regulations:
1. Students who attend the inal exam and score" l" in the inal grade:
1he students will be allowed to sit or the make up. 1he grade o the makeup exam will replace the
grade o the mid term and final semester exam. 1he year's course work will be counted in the inal
course results. 1he maximum grade could be scored in the course will be A-.
2. Students who do not attend the inal exam without accepted excuse:
1he students will score lA in the inal grade. 1hey will be allowed to sit or the make up. 1hey will
hae to pay the applicable makeup exam ee. 1he grade o the makeup exam will replace the grade o
the mid term and final semester exam. 1he year's course work will be counted in the inal course
grade results. 1he maximum grade could be scored in the course will be A-.
3. Student who do not attend the exam or a alid reason: approed medical excuse, oicial trip,
emergency cases:
Oicial documents must be submitted. 1he student will get an lX grade. 1he 1st Make-up exam is
considered the inal exam and accordingly course assignments, quizzes and the mid term will be
counted and included in the inal grade. 1he student will still hae in addition two make ups and will
ollow case 4 1.
4. Students scoring a course grade ranging rom D to B+, and who wish to hae a second attempt
to improe the oerall course grade.


Students are allowed to sit or the makeup exam, in order to hae a second chance to improe the
oerall course grade under the ollowing conditions:

his, her inal grade. lence, it is highly recommended that students study careully
the decision o setting a makeup exam or improing their inal grade, and only
attempt the makeup exam i they are conident o achieing a higher grade than
the originally scored.

All make-up exams are cumulatie , comprehensie - i.e. including all materials coered during the
semester.
1he examination committee determines the deadlines or the repetition o exams accompanying the
study. 1he irst repeated exam has to be done within one year ollowing the not passed exam, i the
course is a prerequisite or another one in the running semester.
I an examination is not passed or is considered as "lail", the candidate receies rom the GUC
Lxamination Oice a written document about such result as well as gies inormation about the scope,
and eentually the deadline or the repetition o the examination.

Ater ailing a course, students are allowed to repeat a ailed course maximum 2 additional times during
his study period.

Regulations for students receiving an F' grade after the 1st make up
Students who ail ater the 1st make up in 1 or 2 subjects will join the mainstream students in the
ollowing semester. 1hey will hae to sit or the make-up exam or the ailed courses in the ollowing
make-up exam session.
Students who ail ater the 1st make up in 3 subjects or more will hae to repeat the subjects with "l"
grades and will be allowed to continue with the ollowing semester mainstream students with a
restricted number o courses ater receiing Academic Adising.

Requirements for Progression

Students progression rom one year to the next is dependent upon satisactory completion o all academic
courses ,except o two, o the preious years. Students who complete a partial year`s work may proceed to the
next year courses or which they hae prerequisites. Knowledge o the material o the prerequisite modules can
be assumed i the student attended the midterm and the inal exams.
Prerequisites / Co-requisites

1here are prerequisites and co-requisites courses: 1he term prerequisite implies a progression rom less
adanced to more adanced study in a ield. Students must satisy the prerequisite,s, beore registering or the
course, unless exempted by the instructor. Co-requisite courses must be taken concurrently. \hen a course is
listed as both a prerequisite and a co-requisite, it may be taken prior to or concurrently with the other course.

Prerequisites and co-requisites hae been established to proide the maximum assurance that a course will be
completed satisactorily.

Based on academic adising, students who ail in a pre-requisite course may attend the adanced course without
considering their inal grades proided that they score passing grades in the course work ,minimum D,.


Academic Probation

Academic Probation is a warning to the student whose academic perormance is lower than the aerage
standard set by the Uniersity. 1he student will be required to show scholastic improement in order to remain
at the Uniersity. A student on probation status is not considered in good standing` at the Uniersity, and
eligibility to continue under scholarship or other inancial aid programs, to participate in extracurricular

actiities, or to run or certain oices may be aected. A student is placed on academic probation when s,he
acquires a cumulatie grade point aerage less than 3. ,D-, in their selected study program.
An Academic Probation status is placed on the student's record and the student shall be permitted to register
only ater consultation with, and approal o a designated Uniersity adiser.
Students on probation may be adised to reduce their academic load per semester in order to be able to hae a
better chance to improe their oerall GPA.
A student shall be gien two subsequent semesters or enrollment on probationary status. At the conclusion o
the two semesters, a student who has not achieed a cumulatie GPA o at least 3. ,D-, shall be adised to
change the study program or be excluded rom the uniersity. A student excluded rom the Uniersity may not
apply or readmission or reinstatement or one calendar year.

Bachelor Thesis / Pro]ect

1. 1he Bachelor project is an examination thesis, project. It should show that the examinee is
capable o soling practice-orientated problems o his,her ield o study with scientiic
methods within a limited time and can present the results precisely.
2. 1he Bachelor project is superised by a uniersity academic sta member or assistant who
works in the ield o teaching and research under the superision o a proessor.
3. 1he Bachelor project is to be carried out and completed within the last semester o the
study program. 1he candidate has to start the Bachelor project by making an application
or the subject assignment. 1he topic o the Bachelor project is determined by the
superisor in consultation with the examinee.
4. 1opic, questions and scope o the Bachelor project will be limited so that the deadline or
the processing o the Bachelor project can be met.

8ubmission and Evaluation of the Bachelor Pro]ect

1. 1he Bachelor project report must be submitted within the gien period or completion to the same
person who assigned the thesis,project. 1he submission date must be on record. I the deadline is
not met because o illness, the reason or non-completion must be justiied directly to the board o
examiners by means o a medical certiicate.
2. 1here shall be a presentation or the project
3. 1he Bachelor project will be ealuated by the superisor and by a Proessor,Lecturer who works
in the ield.

Repeating the Bachelor Pro]ect

1he Bachelor project can be repeated only once. 1he candidate will be assigned in this case a new topic.


Bachelor Certificate

1he Bachelor document certiying successul completion o the Bachelor Degree is signed by the Dean o the
respectie aculty and by the Uniersity President and is headed with the oicial logo o the GUC.

A transcript o examinations passed will be issued stating the grades o the single subjects as well as the oerall
grade achieed by the student. 1he transcript will be signed by the Registration Oice and by the Dean o the
respectie aculty.
