Dear Parents,

This will be the last Friday Bulletin for this semester as next week we will be returning from our ICARE
expeditions and the following week we will be on a well deserved holiday!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very restful, safe and relaxing holiday. I also
want to thank you for what has been an amazing semester. I have written in the past about successful
schools being all about community. We truly have a vibrant and energetic community and that has
been evident many times this semester.

Next week Tuesday through Friday is our annual ICARE experience. Time and again this experience is
recounted by our alums as one of their greatest memories. Of particular note this year has been the
way that we actually developed ICARE sites working in local schools, organized by former ISM students
through the Renovate to Educate or RED foundation. One of the strengths of ISM is our commitment to
service learning. This is not because we believe we can solve all of this country’s issues in one week,
but more because when we do engage in these types of activities our ISM students gain so much in
terms of our ISM core beliefs. Our CORE BELIEFS strive to:
• Advance the value of learning, growth and self-awareness as life-long endeavors.
• Nurture creativity and originality as precursors for critical and reflective thought and
action.
• Succeed collectively as well as individually, achieving our personal best in all aspects of
school life.
• Maintain a healthy balance in the time devoted to work, rest and recreation.
• Involve our community in sustaining and safeguarding our environment.
• Interact through honest, respectful and open communication.
• Acknowledge and celebrate our differences and encourage empathy, compassion,
understanding and respect for human dignity.
• Live our lives positively, joyfully and ethically.

In the last week of school we will run the MS schedule on Tuesday, December 15 and then finish the
semester on Wednesday December 16 with a half day schedule with the release of all students at 12:00
noon after a full school assembly.

Again I wish you all a fantastic holiday.

Kind regards,

William R. S Brown Michael Dickinson
