Goal: improve saving high balls with blocker
and stick
Number of keepers: 1-3 Required:
Circle, > 50 balls
The Exercise
- trainer throws 6 balls alternating left and right at half-height;
- balls left: keeper saves with the blocker (left);
- balls right: keeper saves with the stick;
- beginner keepers 2 series; experienced keepers 3 series.
Save with the Blocker
- left leg step to the left and slightly angled forward;
- from the centre stance raise the left arm and bring behind
the ball;
- left arm straight, bring blocker active behind the line of the
ball, to deflect it out and away.
Save with the Stick
- with the right leg step to the right and slightly forward;
- raise right arm, keep striaght and angled slightly forward;
- the stick comes from behind the ball, ball contacts stick at
the lower 1/3 part of the stick.

Goal: train clearing and saving with the stick
Number of keepers: 1-3 Required: circle,
>50 balls
The Exercise
1. the trainer rolls a ball to the low left;
2. keeper comes to the ball and clears (with a kick) outside the
circle;
3. the trainer throws a ball half-height right;
4. keeper moves to the right and saves with the stick;
- total 6 balls, 3 left, 3 right.
Gerneral Notes
- relaxed posture, move with short steps.
Clearing (kicking) the Ball
- place standing leg beside the ball;
- make contact with the centre in-step of the kicking foot;
- upper body compensates in the direction of the kicking
action.
Save with the Stick
- move to the ball, step with the right leg;
- raise right arm, angle arm slightly forward;
- stick behind the ball, contact with lower 1/3 of the stick.
The Exercise
1. trainer throws an arced ball in front of the keeper, the
keeper kicks the ball in mid-air into the goal;
2. ball rolled in the direction of the circle, keeper clears the ball
out of the circle;
3. ball rolled along the goal-line, keeper makes a head-first
slide and plays the ball away with the stick.
Clearing/kicking the ball
- place the standing leg beside the ball;
- kick with the in-step of the kicking foot;

combo exercise clearing and sliding
Goal: train kicking and sliding head-first
Number of keepers: 1-3
Required: circle, >50 balls
- upper body follows in the direction of the kick;
- kicking with the in-step: contact point in front of the
standing leg, contact with ball in the middle of the in-step of
the kicker.
Head-first Sliding, ball from the right
- bring body weight over front leg, drop using the right leg,
centre of gravity lowers;
- bring stick forward, sweep ball away with the forehand.
