Course Description
Glad to have you aboard! Welcome to Math 125 workshop, and congratulations for choosing to
participate in this workshop! Math 125 is designed to provide you with the necessary background
to take the Math 150A-B calculus sequence. The course is a detailed study of the behavior of
various families of functions, linear, power, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and trigono-
metric, and their use in mathematical models. There will be opportunities for facilitated math
discussions, further explanation of lecture notes, and test preparation. Study strategies, such as
note-taking, problem solving, test preparation, etc, will be discussed as needed.

Co-requisite
You must be enrolled in the co-requisite course Math 125. The associated class for this workshop
is
MTWRF 10:00-10:50AM with Professor A. Ward.

Withdrawal Policy
The university allows withdrawal on demand only during the rst two weeks of classes. The
withdrawal deadlines this semester are as follows:
FRIDAY, is the last day to drop without a grade of W.

Attendance & Participation

Credit/non-credit based on attendance and participation.
1 This counts for 1 out of 2 possible daily points (50%). You receive 2 points for coming to
class on time and for staying through the duration of the class. Points may be subtracted
for coming in late or leaving early. Be advised that if you miss more than 15 minutes of
any class, you will get 0 attendance points for that class.
2 This counts for 1 out of 2 possible daily points (50%). You are expected to be engaged in
discussions with your group members throughout the class. This includes asking questions
when you are confused or when you disagree with someone, and volunteering your ideas
and solutions to problems.
3 If you come to workshop late more than 3 times, it will count as an absence. If you have
more than three absences, or your tardies are equivalent to more than three absences, you
will not receive credit for the course.
Class Expectations
1 Come prepared EVERY TIME. You will need a calculator that includes the expo-
nential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions.
2 Plan to arrive to class on time and to stay for the entire class period or until dis-
missed. It is disrespectful to your professor and distracting to your classmates to
walk in or out of lecture, early or late. Students who leave early will receive an
absence for the day.
3 Talking and other disruptive behaviors are not permitted while the classes are in
session. People around you are trying to take notes and listen to the lecture. It is
rude to the professor and disrespectful to the people around you to be talking with
your friends during class. You are in the classroom to learn, not to socialize with
your friends. Show courtesy when your professor is speaking by listening quietly.
Students who continue to display rude and disrespectful behaviors will be given a
warning. If persistent talking occurs, you will be asked to leave the class.
4 Put your electronics away when class is in session. Unless you are using them as a
note taking device or to look at a class assignment, there is very little reason to bring
any of the above to class. Show respect to your SI leader, and to your classmates
by putting your electronics away and doing your WileyPlus homework on your own
time and not during the lecture. Wait until class ends to check your text messages
and email.

Final Thoughts
Your instructor has primary responsibility in this course for explaining the material, answering
your questions, administering quizzes and exams, and grading homework, quizzes, and exams.
For additional help when your instructor is not available, there are tutors in the Math Tutoring
Center in MH-553 who should be able to answer many of your questions. Im looking forward
to working with you all this semester! I want to help you learn the material and do well in the
class. If you are having any problems or concerns with the associated class or workshop, I hope
you will be comfortable talking to me about it. Ill do my best to give advice to keep you on
track.
