(A BRIEF INFORMATION)

INTRODUCTION TO THE PROVINCE
Siem Reap is located in northwestern Cambodia, 314 km from Phnom Penh on National Road No.6. The
province is the gateway to the world-famous Angkor temple complex including the magnificent Angkor
Wat, which is located in thick jungle and now a UESCO World heritage Site.
In 2011, a total of 1,610,076 foreign tourists visited the province through Siem Reap International Airport or
other international crossings. With many luxury hotels, beautifully aged colonial buildings, a buzzing pub
street, silk farms, markets, and much more, provincial capital receives many international tourists.
In addition to the World Heritage, Siem Reap Province as total area of 10,299 km
2
with abundant natural
resources thanks to three regions of the province; an upper region rich in forests and plateaus, conducive to
farming and the foraging of sub-forest products; a midland region with paddy rice fields, residential areas
and historical temples as well as cultural sites; and a low-lying plains region conductive to seasonal farming
and fishing.
Nowadays, Siem Reap is known as the second economic hub of Camboida based on its geographic
advantages as well as well-developed transportation infrastructure in the form roads, airports and waterways.
The province is expected to be not only a hub for international tourism, but also a hub for various trade and
business activities at both the domestic and international level.

1. Special features or strong points for the province in terms of investment
a. Advantageous geographic location in the center of northwestern Cambodia
b. Well developed transportation infrastructure in the form of road networks connecting Phnom
Penh via National Road No. 6 and the Thai border via National Road No. 5, international
airports and water transportation through river ports
c. Abundant tourism resources with numerous cultural and historical temples, and natural parks
with great potential for cultural tourism in locations such as Siem Reap, Prasat Bakong,
Angkor Thom and Banteay Srey Districts.
d. Abundant agriculture products produced in Chi Kreng, Sot Nukun, Pork, Brolanh, Srey Snom
and Angkor Chom Districts
e. Low wage, well educated labor force
f. Ensured safety and security through the management of the provincial authority

2. Investment opportunities or potential sector
a. Agriculture: The province has several advantages in the develop of the agriculture sector:
i. A favorable landscape
ii. Appropriate rainfall; and
iii. Proper irrigation systems
b. Tourism: Tourism sector is a second priority sector for the province. In the first half of 2012,
the number of tourist increased to 2,167,946 million and the province has maintained an
increase in the number of tourist at an average of 15% to 25% per year.
c. Service: With the increases in the tourism sector, the service sector (hotel and restaurant etc.)
is also expected to develop
