JUDGE II, JUDGE IIS, JUDGE III
Whether youre making a presentation, designing or selecting product
color, any of The Judge color viewing systems is invaluable for evaluating
product color quality and uniformity.
Designed to operate anywhere in the world.
GretagMacbeths seven-phosphor fluorescent daylight technology renders
color more accurately than typical three-phosphor fluorescent technology
which intensifies blues and greens while graying reds, resulting in less
accurate color matches.
The patented GretagMacbeth lamps provide the closest daylight simulation
available in a fluorescent source, delivering the highest Color Rendering
Index (CRI) in the industry.
Gives More accurate color approvals with multiple, switchable light
sources.
An important benefit of evaluating colors under multiple light sources is the
ability to detect metamerism. This phenomenon occurs when colors appear
to match under one set of viewing conditions but fail to match under
another.
By combining ultraviolet with the daylight source, The Judge achieves the
closest match to natural daylight.
Ultraviolet can be used by itself or in combination with any of the light
sources for the detection or evaluation of optical brighteners, whitening
agents or fluorescent dyes and pigments. The many advanced features of
The Judge will help you make critical color decisions with greater accuracy
and confidence.
The Judge III offers users the unique ability to adjust and store in memory
the light intensity for each of the light sources. With the same dependable
quality and lamp options as in The Judge II products.
The Judge III provides two modes of operation.
All light sources can be preset at the desired reduced intensity or can
operate at full intensity.
Desired intensities are independently set and stored in nonvolatile
memory. The Judge III is ideal for simulating actual lighting environments
to demonstrate how products will be seen at different light levels or to
provide visual correlation with desktop publishing or CAD applications.
GretagMacbeth offers two patented daylight simulation technologies.
SpectraLight

filtered tungsten halogen technology for critical color
decisions and seven-phosphor fluorescent technology for relative color
assessment.
Easy-access panel simplifies lamp replacement, plus all lamps are readily
available.
Daylight is evenly balanced across the visible spectrum it has equal
amounts of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet light energy.
That means it more accurately renders color. Without this balance, colors
arent rendered precisely causing the light source to accentuate certain
colors while suppressing others. Even slight deficiencies or excesses in light
energy could skew your color perception causing you to approve or reject
samples containing error.
Daylight
D5000KNoon sky daylight for graphic arts applications.
D6500KAverage north sky daylight for industrial color management
including automotive, consumer electronics, appliances, textile and
apparel, home furnishings and others. Specified by industry.
D7500KNorth sky daylight for graphic arts pressroom applications
commonly used years ago to compensate for harder to control yellow ink;
sorting and grading textile white goods; and produce evaluations.
Horizon
Commonly used in textile and automotive applications.
Cool White Fluorescent/TL84/U30
Simulates office, in-store or showroom floor lighting.
Incandescent
Simulates home and store accent lighting.
UV5X
Higher intensity (five times that of the sun) for detecting optical brighteners
and fluorescent whitening agents in paper, textiles and plastics.
UV
The amount of UV found in natural daylight for simulating the effects of
optical brighteners and fluorescent whitening agents on color.

MACBETH LIGHTING ADVANTAGES
Eliminate False Readings. Daylight-based technology assures lighting is
evenly balanced across the color spectrum, providing a consistent, accurate
rendering of color.
Avoid Metamerism Issues. Multiple light sources allow for viewing under
different conditions, removing the risk of metamerism, a condition in which
samples matched under one light source do not match under another
Organize Color Programs. Precise technology enables an entire supply
chain to efficiently manage color decisions
Targeted Choices. Products allow for selection based on overall color
requirements, product type, and industry demands.
Easy to Use. Products and components are readily available and designed
for easy access for servicing and lamp replacement

IntelliTraxTM with
Dynamic Polarization
The X-Rite IntelliTrax series is the sheet fed printing industry's fastest and
smartest line of auto scanning systems for press-side color control.
IntelliTrax uses a spectrophotometer system to measure and analyze color.
Spectral data provides the most complete and accurate description of each
color IntelliTrax is the ideal control system for both process and special
color print jobs.
Equipped with a hand-held spectrophotometer to give operators the
option of spot checking ink color at critical locations.
Combining the capabilities of the spectrophotometer and densitometer in a
single automated measuring head, the IntelliTrax measures ink density as
well as spectral reflectance for color control.
Density has proven to be the best measurement parameter for process
control in printing.
There is a direct correlation between ink film thickness and density which
provides for a way to regulate the inking controls on the press.
The addition of spectral measurement capabilities in the system provides
specific appearance information to identify and control the most
demanding special colors as well as provides critical color data required to
generate ICC press profiles for color management.
It is a standard practice in many regions of the world to employ
densitometers equipped with polarization filters in the measurement path
to obtain density information which minimizes the measured difference
between wet and dry ink films.
However, accurate evaluation of color by spectrophotometry cannot be
achieved through the use of polarized measurements. Therefore, the
challenge is to provide both polarized density measurements and color
measurements without polarization in a single system.
The new option, Dynamic Polarization (DP), allows for the measurement of
polarized density while still providing nonpolarized color data within the
same instrument.
It gives Simultaneous reading of polarized density and un-polarized color
within the same measurement head.

VipPAQ
It is a Inline color density measuring system.
It performs quality checking in the actual print situation at the control
console for true real-time job control with no need to slow down the press
or extract pages.
vipPAQ displays any deviations in substrate, viscosity, speed, pressure
temperature and ink impurities while the job is running so immediate
corrective action can be taken.

COLOR CHECKER
Color Checker targets are predictable standards that allow to:
Achieve true-to-life color reproduction
Minimize tedious trial and error color adjustments
Simplify camera and studio lighting balance
Obtain instant gray balance
The Original ColorChecker Standard:
The 24-color array provides a known reference for accurate reproduction of
true-to-life images in any medium, under any illumination.
Each of the 24 colors represents the actual color of natural objects such as
blue sky, skin tones, and foliage.
And each color reflects light just like its real-world counterpart.
Mini ColorChecker:
Get ColorChecker precision in a handy pocket size. Great for location shots.
Custom White Balance
The ColorChecker Custom White Balance Chart delivers absolutely accurate
white reproduction under any lighting condition. Most white balance
targets arent neutral and could cause colors to shift under different
lighting conditions. The Custom White Balance Chart is an absolute neutral
white reference, so it prevents the shifting of colors.
3-Step Gray Scale
The ColorChecker 3-Step Gray Scale lets you balance your images, plus
simplifies the task of balancing your studio lighting. A white, 18% gray and a
black target all on a single card make color adjustments faster and easier

FRANSWORTH MUNSELL 100 HUE TEST
This test is the industry standarad for determining color discrimination &
identifying color deficiencies. This portable 15 minute test analyzes how
accurately you see color.
The software indicates where you have color vision deficiencies such as
color blindness.
Test is simple: under controlled lighting arrange four sets of precisely
colored caps in order from one hue to another. Each wrong placement
reveals a different type of color vision deficiency.
The test result indicates following points:
1. A numeric score indicating how well you discriminate different color will be
ranked against normal color vision, with result of low, avg or superior.
2. If you have color vision defect software identifies where color confusion
lies.
3. Test results will also be charted graphically to help you see the color areas
where you have made errors.

It is a std testing for color discrimination for over 50 years.
It is produced by munsell color of X-RITE & specified by American soc for
testing & material in ASTME 1499 & by AATCC (American association of
textile chemists & colorists).

MUNSELL COLOR ORDER SYSTEM
The Munsell Color Order System is an accepted method, worldwide, for
precise color specification.
Hue (H) is the actual color that follows a natural order of red (R), yellow
(Y), green (G), blue (B) and purple (P).
Between each were intermediate hues yellow-red (YR), green-yellow (GY),
blue green (BG), purple-blue (PB) and red-purple (RP). Arranged in an
equally divided circle, these colors form the Munsell Hue Circle.
Value (V) indicates the lightness of a color.
The scale of value ranges from 0 for pure black to 10 for pure white.
Black, white and the grays between them are called neutral colors. They
have no hue. Colors that have a hue are called chromatic colors. The
value scale applies to chromatic as well as neutral colors.
Chroma (C) is the degree of departure of a color from the neutral color of
the same value. Colors of low chroma are sometimes called weak, while
those of high chroma are said to be highly saturated, strong or vivid.
The chroma scale starts at zero, for neutral colors, but there is no arbitrary
end to the scale. As new pigments have become available, Munsell color
chips of higher chroma have been made for many hues and values.
The chroma scale for normal reflecting materials extends beyond 20 in
some cases. Fluorescent materials may have chromas as high as 30
All colors are arranged three-dimensionally according to hue, value and
chroma creating the Munsell Color Space.
Using the Munsell nomenclature HV/C, our vivid red example would have
the Munsell notation 5R 6/14. 5R is the hue (red), 6 is the value
(moderately light), and a 14 chroma indicates a highly chromatic color.
When a finer division is needed for any of the attributes, decimals are used.
For example, 5.3R 6.1/14.4.
When the hues of the primary hue circle are used, the notation is written
in the same way, for example 2B 5/4.
The notation for a neutral color is written: NV/. The chroma of a neutral
color is zero, but it is customary to omit the zero in the notation.
The notation N1/ denotes a black, a very dark neutral, while N 9/ denotes a
white, a very light neutral. The notation for a middle gray is N 5/.
MUNSELL COLOUR SPACE:
Munsell hue, value and chroma can be varied independently so that all
colors can be arranged according to the three attributes in a three
dimensional space.
The neutral colors are placed along a vertical line, called the neutral axis,
with black at the bottom, white at the top, and all grays in between. The
different hues are displayed at various angles around the neutral axis.
The chroma scale is perpendicular to the axis, increasing outward. This
three-dimensional arrangement of colors is called the Munsell color
space.
Each Custom Color Standard comes with a Munsell System notation.
Color standards can be produced to match a variety of color and
appearance characteristics including opaque, translucent, transparent,
fluorescent, textured, pearlescent, and metallic
COLOUR CONTROL PANELS:
The single-color control panel represents the master standard or specific
target color. It provides a reference for visual assessment or a target for
color matching with an instrument-based color system.
The two-step painted panel represents either of a min/max tolerance range
for two colors or an appearance standard for a single color at two gloss
levels. For visual assessment of products with wider tolerances, the three
step painted panel includes the target color plus two tolerance limits.
Each labeled panel is packaged in a light-proof envelope with the notation
and data needed to ensure accurate color reproduction.
Color control panels can be produced in a variety of painted substrates or
textured surfaces. They are also available in a washable form for
applications requiring a more durable, cleanable surface, such as food
applications.
COLOUR TOLERANCE SET:
The Color Tolerance Set shows the target color plus acceptable limits held
in tolerance around the ideal or centroid color.
The tolerance limits are all defined as being a Light, Dark, Red, Green, Blue
or Yellow limit
when compared to the target color. The different types of Color Tolerance
Sets are defined by the number of limits that are incorporated into the
Color Tolerance Set.
So a seven-step Color Tolerance Set would have a target color plus a Light
limit, Dark limit, Red limit, Green limit, Blue limit and Yellow limit.
The Color Tolerance Sets are available in
four configurations:
Three-Step = target + two limits
Seven-Step = target + six limits
Nine-Step = target + six limits + two gloss levels
Ten-Step = target + six limits + three gloss levels
COLOUR CHECKER:
The ColorChecker is a checkerboard array of 24 scientifically prepared
colored squares in a wide range of colors. Many of these squares represent
natural objects of special interest, such as human skin, foliage and blue sky.
These squares are not only the same color as their counterparts, but also
reflect light
The same way in all parts of the visible spectrum. Because of this unique
feature, the squares will match the colors of natural objects under any
illumination and with any color reproduction process.
Some of its applications include:
Digital Photography: Check images, output, monitors
Traditional Photography: Check films, lights, filters and paper
Graphic Arts: Check any printing or proofing process
Digital Imaging: Check scanners, monitors and proofing devices
Cinematography, Television and Video: Check cameras, monitors,
lights and film.
The ColorChecker Gray Scale permits quick set-up of the proper studio
lighting ratio between main and fill lights for capturing accurate color
without a lot of after-the-fact manipulation. In addition, the ColorChecker
Gray Scale provides reference values that can quickly be checked and used
to adjust colors within most common photo processing software packages.
White Balance, Gray Balance, and Gray Scale
solutions enhance overall photo quality by providing:
A precise, uniform surface that is spectrally neutral under all lighting
conditions
Assurance that the digital cameras raw image accurately portrays real life
Reference values to check and adjust colors
The ability to instantly correct color images by setting the mid-tone gray
value

profiles, youll be able to capture a broad gamut of colors, while minimizing
retouching. Saves time and money, enhances output quality.
PM5 Publish is designed specifically for prepress and publishing
professionals that need optimal results from digital (laser, inkjet) and
traditional (offset, flexo, gravure, etc.) printing systems. PM5 Publish
provides the ability to profile monitors and scanners, as well as RGB, CMYK
and Hexachrome output devices. You can edit and customize profiles,
while ensuring color quality for proofing and final print production.
PM5 Publish Plus expands the gamut of digital printers, analog presses and
LFP devices through the use of multicolor technology featuring CMYK plus
up to six additional colors. It includes all the functionality of PM5 Publish,
plus provides accurate, predictable color from concept to final production
for CMYK+N based multicolor workflows. The six additional colors used in
the separations can be selected without any restriction defined based on
spot measurements, manual Lab entries or from any of the PANTONE
libraries. PM5 MultiColor plug-in for Adobe Photoshop completes the
solution by allowing 1-click separations plus the ability to soft proof and
hard proof your Lab, RGB and CMYK images.
