Experiment Report on
EXTENSION CONVENIENCE OUTLET WITH 5V USB CHARGER AND BATTERY CHARGER
De Guzman, Aaron Fredriel d.L.

June 27, 2014

Project Summary
The study is about constructing a 230-Volts extension convenience outlet. The extension
convenience outlet was made to maximize the use of it by adding on other functions such as a
AA/AAA Battery Charger and 5-volts USB battery charger. The battery chargers that were used in the
study were just pre-made and functioning well.

Introduction
An extension convenience outlet or power cord is a device with a long power cable for usage in a
specific distance with a fixed convenience outlet; it has one end plug on a power source. The
extension cord comes with restrictions for safety, such as the size of and type of its wire will depend
on the intent of use and the receptacles must passed test on safety requirements, lastly, wirings and
closure must be in proper and ensured.

Introduction
Purpose
The intent of the study is to construct a do-it-yourself 220-volts AC extension convenience outlet and
maximize its use. It also intends to develop the basic skills, whether of technical or analytical, in
electric circuits. The researcher may also familiarize himself to the basic concepts of basic electrical
circuits.
Scope
The limit of the study is on basic analysis of an extension convenience outlet that will be connected
to an AC source of 230-volts. The study includes the connection of a USB battery charger with 5-volts
DC output and AA/AAA battery charger, but excludes its complicated circuitry.

Discussion
Methodology
The project before being done have gone series of steps and have used different components.

1 5-volts DC USB Charger

Procedure
Before the project-making proper, the researcher built a proposal of the project and designs a
schematic diagram. After the design, gathering of needed components and materials is done and
what follows next was the arrangement of the components based on the schematic diagram. Then,
the researcher assembled the extension convenience outlet with accordance to its schematic
diagram. The researcher then connected the add-on functions by fixing and tapping the AA/AAA and
USB Battery Charger. After being assembled, tests were conducted before and during being plugged
into the source; test for connectivity and potential short circuits (before) and voltage output check
(after). After the assembly and series of tests, the researcher built a case for safety purposes.

Test and Evaluation
Based on the testing and experiment done, the extension convenience outlet gave the expected
values with the use of the multi-tester. The continuity and voltage drop has been tested. The
function of the add-on devices: the USB battery charger was loaded with a cellular phone to be
charged and the AA/AAA battery charger worked based on the AAA battery loaded to it
