I compete in
the historic
category so
we can relate
our experience
back to our
customers, and
everything is stocked in house.
The successful business operates from impressive
premises at Llandysul Business Park, Llandysul,Wales, a
new location which Gareth moved into last year. It is a far
cry from Gareths early days, when, just like another Welsh
wizard out there, he was a bus driver!
Ive always had a passion for motorsport and especially
rallying, Gareth explained. I grew up in the era of the
Mark 1 and Mark 2 Escorts so it developed from there.
When I got out of school, I did an apprenticeship at a
small garage.
The garage had a coach business as well, Gareth
continued, and I spent two years driving buses fulltime.
After that I ended up in aVW dealership before coming
back to Llandysul where I worked for my father-in-law
maintaining lorries.
It was only then that Gareth decided to buy his own rally
car. Of course, he was no stranger to competition, having
started road rallying in 1983. He only entered a handful of
events before he ran out of money, so his attention turned
to navigating.
I did a bit of navigating on road rallies in 1987, Gareth
recalled. Then I was fortunate enough to sit with Gwyndaf
Evans in 1989, and I also sat with the likes of John Price
and the late Tony Davies. I was very lucky to get those
opportunities and I learnt a lot from them.

BASHFORD BOOKS
IN the centre of the village on the walkway from the car
park SIOP LLYFR/BOOKSHOP LLANDYSUL was opened
in 2012 a family run business managed by Lewis Jones as
an internet bookshop and
storage facility but due to
village interest it was opened
to the general public with
7,000 books.Their catalogue
has now over 25,000
different titles and books
are sold worldwide, they sell
10,000 book annually.
All of the books are locally
sourced and it shows what
an eclectic varied interest we have in our local population.
Lewis is keen to preserve older books and with hundreds
of Welsh Language and Local interest as well as the
more general fction the titles go from the mundane to
the bizarre all books are catalogued so just pop in and
enquire and they can pinpoint them for you and with their
comfortable sofas it is easy to relax with a book or just
