FUNKY LOOPS AND HITS 1 A collection of 572 inspiring and useful original live drum loops ranging from 79 to 191bpm, concentrated around 95, 100, 110, 125 & 160bpm. With loop lengths ranging from 1 beat to 4 bars, plus extended freestyle solo sections. Also REX files for many loops, individual drum hits, and an Ableton Live Impulse instrument built from the same hits. All recorded with a versatile, clean, punchy, slightly compressed drum sound - and no extra effects. Please read through this document for info on selecting and using the loops. Visit www.mikethedrummer.co.uk to download free Logic EXS24 sampler instruments, Ableton Live Impulse Instruments, Native Instruments Battery Kits etc to complement these loops. Mike Reed email: mail@mikethedrummer.co.uk SESSION/CREDITS INFORMATION: These loops were recorded in one session as long improvisations, then chopped up later into useable chunks. They remain arranged in folders on the CD in the order in which they were played, not always grouped by tempo or style. Each file name, however, contains information on the files exact tempo and length, plus a brief description of the loop. Recorded at SSL Studios, Oxford, through an SSL XL9000K Series Desk, and mixed through an SSL Bus compressor. Drums: Mike Reed Engineer: Matt Derbyshire Design by cottageofdoom.co.uk PREVIEWING AND SELECTING LOOPS:
For ease of previewing, an MP3 library containing every loop is included on the CD or DVD. It is recommended that you copy this to your hard drive and import it into your MP3 software. The 'album' ID tag of each MP3 reads as follows: eg. Funky Loops and Hits 1/16' ...where the last number, (in this case '16') gives the location folder of the original loop. Using this, the MP3s can be arranged by album in your MP3 software, so the contents of each folder of loops can be quickly previewed. Alternatively, using the filenames of the MP3s, (see below for a more detailed description), the loops can be arranged by tempo in your playlist. These can then be previewed and, again, the 'album' tag can be viewed to quickly find the location folder of the original loop on the CD. LOOP FILENAME DESCRIPTION: Loop and MP3 preview filenames contain detailed information on tempo, length and description: eg. 99-38 1 bar 16s busy HH var The above example has a tempo of 99.38 bpm and is 1 bar long. The description translates as '16th notes busy hi-hat variation'. Some of the more common abbreviations are shown below: hats/HH = hi-hat cr = crash cymbal shuf = shuffle feel f&c = 'fish and chips' rhythm. (two semiquavers followed by a quaver) bd = bass drum op = open rd = ride var = variation rc = rim click sync = syncopated sn/snr = snare grv/gr = groove br = brushes NOTES ON REX LOOPS: A total of 363 of the 572 loops are also on the CD/DVD chopped up as REX (.rx2) loops. Only the loops that work reasonably well when chopped are included, those loops with lots of crashes, buzzes, long open hi-hats etc are not. The loops have only been chopped very basically, with decay and stretch times left at the default settings - some may need to be altered to loop convincingly at slower tempos. The REX files are arranged in a folder system (shown below) in the same way as the WAV loops.
