Introduction
The Pacific Ring of Fire, are formed due to the subduction zones of three tectonic plates. ASEAN, especially
Indonesia is located at the meeting point between the three plates; Austronesian, Asia, and Pacific. The
friction between the plates, especially between Austronesian and Asia makes the ground under Indonesia is
always volatile and boils. Plates below Indonesia, are one of the most dikes in the world that is known by
many earthquakes, and volcanoes lined up from Aceh to Papua. Before the 2004 earthquake followed by a
tsunami that hit Aceh, these potential geological disasters are almost forgotten by both the public and
government.

The Ring of Fire Expedition is established with the intention to raise the awareness of the danger to the
Indonesian citizen, especially to those who live inside the ring of fire area. The local people living within the
area are mainly less-informed villagers. People are invited as volunteers to join the expedition and assist the
organization providing information to these people. The volunteers will travel to these areas with researchers
from Geology, Botany, Archaeology, and Anthropology areas. Besides creating awareness, the expedition
also aims to establish a network of early warning system for regions within the Pacific Ring of Fire.


Description of project and tasks
The Ring of Fire Expedition needs to build a corporate identity that will be used consistently throughout the
expedition. Your job is to create this corporate identity; with colors, photos and illustrations, typefaces, etc.

This corporate identity will be applied to several promotional items including a banner, template for flyer and
certificate. The keywords for the whole project are volcano, expedition and adventure. The client has asked
that the visual approach to be clean and simple.


Target Audience
The target audience is aged from 18 to 30 years old who enjoy nature, adventure and community
volunteerism.

Task 1: Logo
You are required to create a logo for the expedition. The logo needs to project the keywords: Expedition,
nature, and volcano.

The logo must include the complete name Ring of Fire Expedition. You must provide 2 versions of the
logo: A version in single colour (spot colour to be applied on wooden boxes, etc.) and a process colour
(CMYK) version. You may slightly alter the appearance of your single colour logo from your process colour
version as long as the concept stays similar.

Techni cal specifi cations:
Colours: one version of the logo in 1 spot colour, one version in CMYK
Printing: offset lithography
Trapping: 0.3 points if needed

You must deliver:
1 final folder of your working files for archiving
1 EPS file of your logo in 1 spot colour
1 EPS file of your logo in CMYK


Task 2: Large Format Banner
You have to create a banner that will be placed on the front of the main hall of the Ring of Fires office. The
objective of this banner is to attract people to know about the expedition.

The banner must include the following:

The Ring of Fire Expediti on logo.
A QR code leading to the website of the association and the text contained in the file
(ASC2012_TP40_Module_02_EN.rtf).
You also have to use at least two of the provided pictures but you are free to resize, combine, modify
or alter them in any way that suits your design.

Task 3: Flyer
Another document that you have to create is a flyer that will be used when they need to announce an event.
The size will be 15 x 10 cm in landscape orientation.

The front page of the flyer must be the same one as your banner design.

The information on the back will be added according to the needs of a specific event. You will have to use
the text available in the file (ASC2012_TP40_Module_2_03_EN.rtf), your logo and the provided QR code (at
a size of at least 30 mm).

Task 4: Certificate
Create an A3, full colour, one-sided certificate to be given to all the partners of the expeditions (adventurers,
researchers, sponsoring companies, etc). The client would like to have a design (compliant with the identity
created by you) associating adventurous expedition to reveal the wondrous secret of the volcanoes.

The certificate must include your logo and the text available in the file ASC2012_TP40_Module_2_04_EN.rtf
