The Owner/Manager must take care that all maintenance and service jobs are carried out solely by authorised and qualified personnel. Furthermore, he must ascertain that the personnel concerned has acquired sufficient knowledge by studying the operating instructions very carefully.
On principle,
- in cases where the SJE has been subjected to aggressive substances - that it has been decontaminated/rinsed out and cleared for further activi- ties before dismantling and maintenance jobs take place!
Rules governing waste disposal and environmental protection must be observed at all times.
- dismantling and maintenance jobs are not to be carried out until the SJE - working under excess pressure and sometimes at high temperatures - has been,
- taken out of operation, - pressure in the system reduced, - and the SJE - where applicable - has cooled down, drained off and - see above - has been decontaminated/cleared for further activities,
thereby paying strict attention to the procedures as given under Items 7.3 (Shut-down) and 10.0 (Maintenance).
Observation of the above points will help to avoid injuries to persons, i.e. burns/scalds, with aggressive substances also acid burns, as well as damages to the apparatus/plant.
On completing such jobs, any safety protection devices in use must be reassembled immediately, checked through and set to operate.
Re-commissioning to take place according to Item 7.1 (Commissioning).

Remove any rust protection applied previously to the flange sealing surfaces. See here and observe Item 10.4.3 (Maintenance)!
6.4 The approved rules of engineering are to be observed when fitting/ assembling the SJE - see here also Item 2.5 under the heading "Safety precautions". Qualified personnel is a prerequisite for assembling the SJE.
Especial care is to be taken
- that the correct flow directions acc. to the Technical Data Sheet resp. Table of Dimensions - marked by arrows - are observed,
- that the supply and discharge lines do not introduce any forces or moments,
- that clogging by welding globules, sealing residues or the like cannot occur.
Furthermore, pay attention that:
6.5.1 All gaskets are seated concentrically and do not narrow the flow cross- sections.
6.5.2 When installing the motive steam line please take care that the motive steam reaches the motive nozzle in a dry condition. Wet motive steam will cause premature wear in the motive nozzle and also in the diffuser of the SJE and this will interfere considerably with an efficient performance.
The motive steam line should be installed at least in the same nominal width as prescribed by the SJE.
If the motive steam is wet, then it has to be dried. We recommend the job- site installation of a droplet separator (steam strainer with drainage) in the motive steam line.

The withdrawal connection for motive steam must be situated at the top of the main steam line to prevent condensate from being carried over.
6.5.3 The suction- and mixed-flow lines should be installed in the same nominal width as the SJE - see also Technical Data Sheet resp. Table of Dimen- sions.
Too narrow a pipeline will lead to increased pressure losses.
6.6 The shut-off device for the motive steam can be situated at the most convenient point for handling, but not too far away from the SJE to assure that the specified minimum pressure can be adjusted just before inlet to the motive nozzle.
6.7 A pressure gauge to be provided at job-site is necessary to adjust the required minimum pressure for motive steam. This gauge must be installed between the shut-off device and the SJE. It is advisable to have this instru- ment calibrated from time to time.
6.8 The SJE can be subjected to an operational test before it is finally installed. This test can be carried out within the test scope for the whole unit. Proceed here according to Item 7.1 (Commissioning).
6.9 Retighten screws on previously assembled connections and again after first commissioning.
6.10 This SJE can be operated out of doors.
When the weather is cold and frosty or if the SJE is to be shut down over a longer period of time, please proceed according to Item 7.3.4 (Shut-down).
6.11 Parts made of C-Steel/GGG-40 have been provided with a shop coat of paint.
Additional protective measures are necessary at job-site if further corrosive influences are to be avoided.

7.1 Commissioning
7.1.1 ATTENTION !
Before first commissioning it is important to ascertain that all connecting pipelines are in a clean condition, especially the motive steam line and above all, in the area between the droplet separator (steam strainer with drainage) and motive nozzle. Foreign objects (scale, welding globules and the like) can clog the nozzle.
Before commissioning takes place, check that the connections are leak-proof.
A further prerequisite is that the SJE may only be activated when it is in a properly operable condition together with resp. safety- & protection devices - as far as these have been installed.
7.1.2 At first, all shut-off devices in the supply- and discharge lines must remain closed.
7.1.3 If a shut-off device has been installed in the mixed flow line (at connection point DNG), then this device must be opened up first of all before the com- missioning starts.
If this particular shut-off device is not opened up first, then motive steam can flow back through suction connection DNS and can so cause damage to the product or to the system itself.
ATTENTION: The danger thereby is, that the mechanical limiting values - see Item 2.9 - could be exceeded thereby resulting in injuries to persons resp. damages to the environment.
7.1.4 Drain the motive steam line (at connection point DNT) thoroughly by means of the drainage device (e.g. droplet separator - steam strainer with drainage) until the white vapour trail disappears. In the case of saturated steam, leave the shut-off device open a little!
