Product Summary:
The GKH-5011 is an upgradeable Under Vehicle Inspection System that when fully upgraded
has the same features as the GKH-3011 Automatic Under Vehicle Inspection System
(AUVIS). The GKH-5011 is the economical, embedded solution that allows a buyer to buy as
little or as much as they require to meet their security and financial needs. As these
conditions change for a buyer they are always able to upgrade and add further features that
will enhance the users security and vehicle screening procedures. The base unit is an
advanced under vehicle scanning system, still superior in every way to alternatives such as
line scanners. The GKH-5011 produces high resolution composite (stitched frames) images of
vehicle undercarriages regardless of size, weight or speed up to 40 kph. You can even stop
on top of any Gatekeeper AUVIS without affecting the image. Try that with a line scanner and
see what you get not a good result. In addition, unlike a line scanner that suffers greatly
from very small changes in vehicle speed or lighting conditions, resulting constantly in
unusable images, the GKH-5011 produces consistently, evenly illuminated undercarriage
images, vehicle after vehicle. The even illumination, high resolution and normalized images
provides a near perfect view of the undercarriage for an operator to manually inspect, or
automatically inspect, if the automatic foreign object detection feature is purchased as an
upgrade.
The base GKH-5011 can be upgraded to include:
Automatic Reference Image Recall (ARIR): ARIR, a Gatekeeper patent pending
technology, allows the system to automatically recall the same or similar vehicle
undercarriage reference image from the system database using solely the unique
pattern of the undercarriage to find the closest match to the newly scanned vehicle.
This automatically recalled reference image is then displayed on screen below the
newly scanned vehicle image allowing for manual comparison of the undercarriages
by the operator.
Automatic Foreign Object Detection (AFOD): AFOD, another Gatekeeper patent
pending technology, takes the manual searching and comparison out of the
undercarriage inspection role and allows the system computer to do the work. The
great thing about the computer doing the work is that the computer knows what each
vehicle undercarriage should look like (tough task for an operator to know every
vehicle make and models undercarriage). When the system computer finds a
change/difference on the newly scanned undercarriage it highlights it by placing a red
ring around the differences and sounding an audible alarm. The operator can then
zoom into the highlighted area to look more closely at the change/difference the
system has identified. The system also automatically zooms into the same area on
the reference image to give the operator an immediate comparison. The alternative is
for the operator to search for the differences and be able to do this for hours on end
and under additional pressure from waiting drivers also not humanly possible.
AFODS takes care of both of those challenges and completes the task in 2 3
seconds compared to 60 plus seconds if done manually.
Automatic Networking Capability (ANC): ANC allows for the individual GKH-5011
systems to be networked and thereby allow each system on the same network to be
either observed or operated by any other system operator by clicking on the lane
icon. ANC also allows for the systems to share databases (reference images).

Automatic Autowash (AA): AA is great tool as it removes the requirement to be
constantly cleaning the system. In most cases the function of inspecting the
undercarriage of vehicles is carried out by some form of camera system or optical
scanning device. To continue to receive good images from any camera or scanning
device the view of the camera etc should not be blocked by the presence of dirt, sand
etc. AA is the answer to this challenge as it is a wash system that can be set to come
on automatically (say early morning) or regularly throughout the day or as needed.
Automatic License Plate Reader System (ALPRS): ALPRS is an integrated
solution that automatically reads the license plates of vehicles, enters that information
in the system database and on screen each time a vehicle is scanned. The GKH-
5011 can either use the license plate of the vehicle to recall the reference image for
automatic or manual comparison or it can be done via the unique pattern of the
undercarriage as is used with the ARIR feature. The Gatekeeper ALPRS reads many
styles and languages of license plates including, Latin, Arabic, Cyrillic, etc
Automatic Vehicle Verification (AVV): AVV is a patent pending Gatekeeper
technology that has the unique capability to verify that a license plate belongs to a
certain make and model of vehicle. For example if a person was authorized to drive
their Mini onto a facility and they or someone else took the license plate off the Mini
and put it on, say a Toyota Land Cruiser, the system would alarm as this could mean
trouble or at least an explanation is required. When the system alarms, because the
vehicle and plate dont match, the operator only has to touch the overview image of
the vehicle on screen and the picture of the original vehicle belonging to the captured
license plate is displayed. A further enhancement of this is for the system to identify
the actual vehicles make and model and display this on screen, based solely on the
unique undercarriage pattern. In this way if the identified vehicle make and model
does not match the vehicle in the system database belonging to a certain person or
license plate the system will also alarm.
How does a base GKH-5011 work?
Vehicles drive over the environmentally sealed scanner, mounted below the road surface
when the system traffic light turns green. An embedded ground loop activates the system and
illumination rail as the vehicle approaches the scanner. While the vehicle is crossing the
scanner and light rail, the Gatekeeper GKH-5011 system is capturing and stitching a series of
single frames (300 fps) to form one, high resolution image of the undercarriage. This image is
automatically displayed on the systems high-resolution, day light readable, touch screen,
within milliseconds of the vehicle completing the scanning stage. In addition to the
undercarriage image a photo of the outside of the vehicle/driver is displayed on screen and is
filed in the database along with the undercarriage image and license plate number if entered.
The GKH-5011 can scan one car every 4 seconds. This rate of throughput however is too fast
for manual inspection and so to be able to achieve this rate and complete a comprehensive
search of the undercarriage the AFOD upgrade is necessary. The base GKH-5011 allows for
the manual input of license plates and the ability to recall that same vehicle image for manual
comparison the next time the same vehicle crosses that scanner by simply entering the
vehicle license plate. With the ARIR upgrade whenever a vehicle is scanned the system will
recall from the database, the same or similar vehicle reference image for on screen manual
inspection. The ARIR feature further enhances the GKH-5011s performance when coupled
with the AFOD upgrade because with the ARIR turned on the system will automatically find
the most similar vehicle in the database, irrespective of whether the system has seen that

same vehicle before or not and then automatically compare the two images - all done
automatically within 2 3 seconds. The beauty with the ARIR and AFOD combination is that
the system does not need to have seen the exact same vehicle before to be able to inspect it
automatically. This is because the system only needs to have seen a similar vehicle to
provide an automatic undercarriage search. This would not be the situation if you relied on
license plates to identify the vehicle in the database, as in this scenario every vehicle is new
to the system until you have all the plates and their undercarriage images entered into the
database. Including the ARIR and AFOD features is a great security enhancement.
Another advantage of purchasing the AFOD feature is that it enables the GKH-5011 to then
check license plates against undercarriage images i.e. make sure the license plate belongs to
the vehicle and has not been swapped to gain entry. If the AFOD featured is purchased in
combination with the ALPRS then the system can read the plates and do the image
comparison (vehicle to license plate) automatically
As can be seen there are many combinations of additional features you can choice to
enhance your under vehicle inspection procedures. Gatekeeper can provide a great deal of
guidance and assistance with helping you select the best combination for your individual set
of circumstances.
The system can be integrated with other access control technologies such as an RFID reader,
bollards and barriers of many types along with additional CCTV cameras etc. The GKH-5011
has such standard features as a system traffic light, overview/driver camera, high resolution
19, daylight readable, touch screen, manual image comparison via manual entry of license
plates, Watch List, activity reports etc. All GKH-5011s come complete with environmentally
sealed scanner, light rail, cables and hot dipped galvanized vault lid and ledge.

Overview of the Gatekeeper Technology.
Below are the primary features & capabilities of a fully upgraded GKH-5011 system. These
features separate Gatekeeper from all other under vehicle inspection systems. In combination
with these is the actual performance record of the Gatekeeper systems gained from many years
of deployment worldwide from the cold of Northern Russia to the heat of the Middle East.
Core Technology Gatekeepers technology uses Area Scan Image Processing technology
which allows vehicle images to be normalized regardless of the speed of the vehicle as they
cross the scanning platform. Image capture and processing technologies such as recorded
video streams, or line scanning processing are not capable of automatic identification and
searching, because they require the human operator to view/compare the images and decide if
there is any object or modifications that could pose a threat. Live/recorded video and line
scanning systems have been proven to be unreliable as an inspection technology due to poor
performance and that they rely heavily on human knowledge, attention span and intervention.
Vehicle Finger Print Gatekeepers systems compiles a high resolution digital image of a
vehicle under carriage to create a virtual finger print of the vehicle.
Automatic Vehicle Identification Gatekeepers system uses the vehicle finger print to
automatically identify the vehicle by matching the image against a data base of vehicle finger
prints. The system does not rely on license plates etc to recall the vehicle from the database it
can be done via Gatekeepers patented pattern recognition algorithms. The stitched image is
converted into a digital computer file and stored in a SQL data base where it can be matched
against the entire data base. When a match is found the identity of the vehicle make & model
can be (user defined) displayed on the operator terminal.
Automatic Foreign Object Detection Gatekeepers system use Area Scan Digital Image
Processing technology to convert vehicle under carriage digital images into computer files that
are matched to a data base of known safe vehicle images. The Gatekeeper software
automatically compares the subject vehicle to a safe vehicle and immediately identifies any
foreign objects or modifications to the under carriage that may pose a threat. When a
difference between the reference image and new scanned image is identified by the system it
automatically places a red ring around the difference i.e. explosive or change to undercarriage
etc and activates an audio and/or visual alarm to alert the operator of the threat.
System Performance Requirements
Maximum Vehicle Speed 40 Kilometers per hour
Vehicle length: cars to very large/long trucks
Decision Response Time (the length of time from when the vehicle clears the
scanning platform until the system automatically identifies the vehicle, automatically
searches the under carriage and displays the decision results on the operator terminal)
