THE POWER OF ONE Studying the applications and usage of HRMS

(Human Resources Management Systems) and ATS (Applicant Tracking

System)

The last decade has witnessed an extensive usage of technology as an integrator for achieving
business optimization and excellence. From being a mere differentiator, technology stacks
integrating various aspects of the business have become hygiene factors, essential towards
driving todays fast paced, highly critical and de-centralized business needs. Thus there has been
a mushrooming of ERP suites, be it, traditional players such as SAP and ORACLE or the
emerging ones such as Microsoft Dynamix, EPICOR, INFOR and Indias own home grown
Ramco Systems. Each of these suites cater to a different target audience ranging from small scale
enterprises to huge multinational corporations hosted across multiple platforms, be it the
traditional on premise ERP that is feature and customization heavy but also requires additional
IT and infrastructure capabilities or the lightweight pay as you go Cloud and SaaS (Software as a
Service) model. Some of the common HRMS vendors include ORACLE PeopleSoft, SAP HRM,
BambooHR, Zenefits, Halogen Employee Performance & Talent Management Software,
EPICOR HCM, SAGE HRMS, KRONOS Workforce Ready, Ascentis HR, TimeForce and
iCIMS to name a few. Some specific ATS suites are Taleo, ZOHO Recruit, SmartSearch,
SuccessFactors, Ceridian, Greenhouse, Gopher, CATS, TribeHR etc.
Given the number of software available in the market today, it seems safe to do a scan of
companies across various industry sectors to understand how the requirements of the same
function vary across industries and what software package is currently being used to address and
complement these needs. Thus the project would first involve identifying a single company in
sectors such as Banking, Consulting, Hotel, Retail, Tourism, FMCG, Entertainment and
Healthcare industry. When this is done, an exploratory study has to be conducted on the
companys current HRMS systems with a focus on ATS. The case-let should ideally cover the
challenges faced by the company, the reasons why they went for a particular HRMS
implementation and the benefits realized. Thus the case-let would revolve around technology
aided business transformation from the HRMS perspective. The total length of each case-let
would be 1.5 pages and 8 such case-lets together would not exceed more than 12-13 pages.
